Today is Election Day across the US. The major race being watched is in Virginia, where Democrat Ralph Northam would normally be a shoo-in, thanks to the big influx of government trough-feeders in the Washington, DC, suburbs. But Republican Ed Gillespie’s embrace of Trump-like populist issues and Northam’s and DNC Chairman Tom Perez's refusal to distance themselves from a vile ad painting white, blue-collar Trump voters as racist murderers could infuriate enough voters to cause an upset.

If Northam wins, which should have been a cakewalk, the media will trumpet it as a huge repudiation of President Trump. If Gillespie wins, they’ll be shocked, and judging from last November, I assume some will break down crying on camera. That thought alone might be enough to energize Republicans to get out to the polls and pull that Gillespie lever.

Sincerely,

Mike Huckabee

Trump asks for more money

By Mike Huckabee

President Trump has asked Congress for an additional $5.9 billion in funding for a variety of pressing agenda items, including repairs to two Navy ships that collided with merchant vessels, stepped-up military missions in Afghanistan and North Korea, and yes, building a southern border wall. There will undoubtedly be resistance in Congress. I agree that Congress needs to start taking seriously the idea of reining in spending that’s gone out the window in recent years.

But good luck convincing Americans that you’re outraged over an extra $5.9 billion after running up a $20 trillion debt and passing a $4 trillion budget for just one year, with a $1.5 trillion deficit. The Obama stimulus bill of 2009 spent $831 billion, and about the only “shovel-ready” jobs it created were for the spinmeisters who shoveled the bull muffins needed to sell it. Trump’s request for “only” $5.9 billion reminds me of a line about Washington spending attributed to the late Sen. Everett Dirksen: “A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you’re talking real money.”

Former NRA instructor causes shooter to flee

By Mike Huckabee

We already knew that one of the two Texas heroes who pursued the shooter at 95 mph in a pickup was the driver, Johnnie Langendorff. We now know the name of the neighbor who was awakened from a nap by the gunfire, grabbed his rifle and ran out of his house barefoot to confront Kelley, forcing him to drop his weapon and flee, and likely saving countless more potential victims. He’s Stephen Willeford, described by locals as a “big Christian” and a former NRA instructor. At the link, you can read his heroic, harrowing and heartbreaking account in his own words.

Saving the DNC

By Mike Huckabee

This is a feat of spinning so impressive, there should be circus music behind it: Hillary Clinton’s former campaign manager Robby Mook denied Donna Brazile’s claims that Hillary rigged the primary and looted the DNC’s coffers for her own campaign by claiming that “Hillary Clinton stepped up and literally saved the DNC.”

From what, the pressure to abide by campaign finance laws and basic rules of ethics?

New miniseries premieres tonight

By Mike Huckabee

If you’re looking for something worth watching on TV tonight, you might tune in the National Geographic Channel for the premiere of the new miniseries, “The Long Road Home.” With Veterans Day nearly here, this true story of a small platoon of US troops trying to survive an ambush in Baghdad in 2004 couldn’t be more timely. And judging by this article/review, the series is as respectful of their heroism and faith as it is dramatic, gripping and terrifying.

Profiting from Millennial stupidity

With polls showing that a majority of Millennials are disillusioned with capitalism and might prefer to live under socialism or even communism, it’s good to see capitalists rushing to profit off their stupidity. Barney’s is offering a line of authentically scruffy-looking Antifa-like fashions, including a black leather jacket to match your identity-concealing black hood for only $765. Or how about a green field jacket covered with anarchist slogans, only $375? After all, it’s only your parents’ money.

I doubt that the young people who would buy such things have the intellectual firepower to see the irony, considering they also plan their anti-capitalist rallies on iPhones and coordinate them on Facebook and Twitter. Or maybe they are deliberately showing their contempt for capitalism by throwing away their parents’ money on things of little or no value, like overpriced ripped jeans and designer Antifa jackets, or their degrees in gender studies.
