Dear Pastor/Govenor Huckabee:
First let me say that when you ran for the Republican nomination in 2008, I took one of those online tests to see which of those of you in the running was the closest to my personal philosophy and guess what. Your positions then were virtually 100% the same as mine which is why I'm now writing to you instead of some of the other talk show hosts.
I will now explain.
Having cast my first votes in the 1960 elections at age 21, I have never (including that election) voted for a Democratic candidate in any of the presidential elections and probably 90% of the time in all elections my votes have been for Republican candidates for other offices.
Now that I have established that, please let me state that as I watch these talk shows I do feel that one huge voting block , the senior citizens are being ignored if not outright excoriated and villified by the vast majority of these commentators and their "guests" with all their ranting and raving about "entitlements", almost without fail Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
I first started paying into Social Security at age 20,(my wife started at 15 in 1961) and we have continued to do so along with our employers for well over 40 years. Also for approximately 25 years I paid double being self employed at the time.
I also paid medicare tax from the time it became lawand from the time I became eligible for medicare I have also paid a premium for the coveragez as has almost every recipent of both programs.
Now the Michelle Bachmans, Ed Rollinses, Carl Roves and Shaun Hannities just to name a minicule few are raving that "we've got to get rid of these entitlements", implying that those of us who are receiving these benefits are a bunch of freeloaders.
Indeed former U.S. Senator Alan Cranston (WY), has referred to us as the "generation of greed", this coming from a man who has spent years drawing a public paycheck and in his senior years is the recipient of the best federal retirement and health care benefits in the world, talk about a hypocrite.
Now if a lifelong Republican like me is this upset and angry, think what literally millions of senior citizens must be thinking.
I'm not talking about what these radical left wing nuts are claiming, but rather what the people whom I have in great part supported and agreed with for most of my adult life are saying and I'm feeling betrayed.
The aforementioned Senator Cranston has been quoted as saying that social security has become a milk cow with 310,000,000 tits. Chalk up one more for hypocrisy.
Tell you what, discontinue all foreign aid, and any other federal cash outlay programs (e.g. the U.N.) and keep that money here, give all of us 310,000,000 all of our money back and help those of us to find meaningful employment then we'll talk.
I'm told that there are over 60,000,000 seniors on social security who all vote. Not a good block of voters to be alienating and calling freeloaders.
Am (finally) going to close and doubt if you'll reply but would welcome one, but if you do read this, I do suggest it makes great food for thought.
Really enjoy your program.

Dear Governor, I like you and your show. I was raised in the Lutheran Church and appreciate the values you bring to national television. I watched the interview with the diplomat from Israel who was practically begging for U.S. support for bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. I, as many Americans, do not want to be drawn into a war with Iran. I understand the worry about Iran having a nuclear weapon. We need to force negotiations on Iran. It will just make things worse if we bomb them and it will solidify their hate for us. As with all big guys, eventually you lose your edge and you are forced to understand your enemy. I do not believe we have tried to be a friend of Iran. This is our best plan. Try to understand where they are coming from. We can no longer pummel our enemies and expect the problem to be solved.
I was wondering what the name of the band is that play on your show I watched 2/18/12? Madison in the name I think. I think the song was media puppets?
Thank you Govenor Huckabee for your conservative stance on religious freedom.
Your interview with Monsignor Jim Lisante was really good.
Please research the when, how, and why of the 1954 passing of IRS code sec 501 c (3) for non profits. This took away the First Ammendment right of free speech of ministers.
This was in my opinion, the beginning of the downfall of America.
The repealing of this code, could be the beginning of real positive change for America.
I appreciate your honest and how you give both sides the opportunity to defend themselves, God Bless You and keep up the good work!!
