Four Percent

Apr 21 2013

Wednesday, all of the various new gun law proposals failed to reach 60 votes in the Senate, and President Obama is not taking that well. He gave another angry and impassioned speech, surrounded by Sandy Hook school parents. He blasted the motives of his opponents, accusing them of not caring about children, and caving to fear that the NRA would oppose their reelections. It might be good political theater, but it’s bad leadership. If you want someone to support a law, you have to convince them that it’s a good law, not go on TV to impugn their character for disagreeing with you. In fact, there are grieving Sandy Hook School parents who oppose more gun laws. Do THEY not care about their own children? Or do they just have an honest disagreement about the best way to keep them safe?

Obama declared that this was just Round One. But in political terms, it’s a knockout punch. He was already a lame duck. He bet every ounce of political capital he had from his reelection on this one issue, and he couldn’t even get his own party to support it. Five Democrats voted against even the watered-down Manchin-Toomey background check bill. And Republicans said they didn’t vote against protecting children, they just thought the bills undermined the Second Amendment and were based on a false premise that a background check was the only law criminals would actually obey. This defeat puts Obama in a very weak position for his second term.

He accused Congress of a disconnect with the public. But a new Gallup poll finds that Americans think the #1 issue Washington should be addressing, by far, is the economy, followed by unemployment, bad government, the debt and health care. By making his second term all about gun control, Obama is showing a disconnect with everyone except those Americans who named gun control the most important issue. All…four percent of them.

It is about power and control. It is a tragedy what happened to the adults and children at Sandy Hook. The parent who allowed her child who was ill access to these guns was at fault and she paid the price. What are the folks there going to do to protect their children if someone comes in to their home at night. I say put an armed guard at a gate and if school starts at 08:00am lock the doors and let no one in. Bad people are going to have guns. The gun laws are for those who abide by the law. Our forefathers were really smart people 2nd amendment is to protect us from our government.

Obama is full of himself. It's not about America and gun control. It's what makes him look good. He hates America.

If Obama is so concerned about children, why is he so unconcerned about unborn children?? Blatant hypocrisy.

From Obama's press conference: "I talked to several of these senators over the past few weeks, and they’re all good people. I know all of them were shocked by tragedies like Newtown."
