Saturday, the California Senate passed a bill to declare California a “sanctuary state,” and Gov. Jerry Brown is expected to sign it. This means all state officials will be in revolt against federal law and refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, putting the welfare of illegal aliens, even those wanted by federal authorities, above the rights and safety of their own citizens. The bill is appropriately named “The California Values Act.” The bill does include some exceptions for those accused of the most violent or serious crimes. So good news, Californians: you will only be at the mercy of criminal illegal aliens who are accused of less violent crimes.
Didn’t we already have a big argument over whether states were subservient to the federal government back in the 1860s? And then, I believe there was an echo of that involving schools in the 1950s. And only a few years ago, we saw the federal government suing and seeking to jail Arizona officials for actually trying to enforce federal laws that the federal government refused to enforce. This type of defiance of the law doesn’t usually work out well for states. You’d think California citizens would hold their leaders to a high standard. But too many of those who do have already moved to Texas.
