    Cindy,

It doesn't matter why that money is on the EBT card. You have no way to determine if the money on that card is from Child support or from my tax dollars paying for their food stamps. EBT cards should NOT be allowed to be used to purchase gas. As it is I personally know a family of 6 who get 1000 a month in food stamps, PLUS 1000 a month for house,PLUS kids eat free as school. If both the parents work a full time job and are responsible they get those funds cut and struggle like the rest of us. If they list him as living there they get their funds cut. So instead he left his job and claimed discrimination and they took him of and listed him as not living there and being seperated so that they could get the max from my taxes. NOW not only do they get 2000 a month, thats 24k a year, they can use that money to pay for their gas. They already eat steak 5 days a week, he buys his cigs and energy drinks DAILY and at the end of the month whatever they spend on others so they can show they need that much money. This is pure abuse of the system and they are not the only people doing it. Now they are allowed to buy gas with my money because there is no way to determine if that money came from my taxes or a different source.

    Mike,
The National Assessment of Educational Progress does document that today's students are better prepared in mathematics than prior generations. Reading is flat; math is improving. (maybe the reason math is improving and reading is flat is because the federal government has basically left school districts alone in regards to math and has attempted to help with reading.)

    Chris:
In some states, in lieu of mailing an Aid to Dependent Children's welfare check, the money is loaded on the EBT card. That may be why you are seeing it being used for some non eligible items such as gas.
The case I was referring to about the purchasing of non eligible items for double cost is a food stamps only recipient.
