Saturday, President Trump tweeted that he plans to allow the long-scheduled release of 3100 long-classified documents relating to the JFK assassination and investigation, mostly from the ‘60s and ‘70s. President Bush signed a bill in 1992 allowing for them to be released in 25 years, unless the current President blocked them. It’s assumed that after that many years, releasing them won’t reveal any national security secrets, and the hope was that it would help quell the endless conspiracy theories. Of course, that shows that the government doesn’t understand how conspiracy theories work. Any evidence that disproves the theory is dismissed as “fake news” created by the conspirators.
Ironically, it’s assumed that Trump tweeted his intentions to release the documents after Politico ran a story on Friday, claiming he was likely to block them. Real fake news!
