On our very first show, I said I wanted to provide a show that informed and entertained and covered issues of the day, but one that didn’t raise your blood pressure to 300/200. Tonight, I might unintentionally violate that pledge, but there’s no way for me to cover the topic without it making you mad. I’m certainly fed up and fired up.

Over the past several weeks, there has been an avalanche of stories involving powerful men exploiting and sometimes violating younger vulnerable women. Celebrities in entertainment, news, and politics have been exposed as sexual predators and many have resigned in disgraced or been abruptly fired. These are all tragic stories, but we’ve recently just been made aware of a different kind of sex scandal involving elected officials whose salary YOU pay for.

Over $17 million of YOUR money has been paid as hush money to victims of people in Congress who created a secret slush fund for their sexual sins. Let that sink in a minute. We have to assume that many of those who preyed upon staff members or others are still strutting around the Capitol. But it’s not enough that they have gotten away with sexual harassment and perhaps assault.

Commentary continues below advertisement

It’s that they used YOUR money—not theirs—to pay the victims settlements so they would stay quiet and go away. It’s not the victims who need to shut up and go away! It’s the disgraceful officials who trampled over their victims and then stole money from the federal treasury to pay for what amounts to high-priced zipper repair. The crimes of these perverts should NOT be kept secret. The VICTIMS should be protected, but the perps who violated these women should be paraded in front of the nation and be forced to pay for their own misbehavior.

Fortunately Congressmen like Jackie Speier of California, a Democrat and Congressman Marsha Blackburn, a Republican are demanding that the lights be turned on. And when the lights are on, the rats and roaches will surely run for cover. I applaud the Congressmen and their colleagues for trying to open the windows and let the sun shine in. Whoever has used our money to pay for the silence of sexual victims should pay it back and if still in office, have the grace to resign. Republican or Democrat—doesn’t matter. This isn’t about left or right; this about right and wrong. It may be something that actually achieves bi-partisan support. I’m disappointed by the misdeeds of Hollywood celebrities, news anchors, or sports figures, but I’m outraged that any member of Congress would think it okay to cover their personal sins by paying the public’s cash to their victims that they stole from widows’ Social Security checks, from the salaries of our soldiers, or from the surgery needed by an impoverished child. If this upsets you, then good. It needs to. I’m furious. Washington wastes enough of my money without having ME paying for their inability to keep their hands to themselves.

I'm amazed that the money was available to them to spend on such things. Who gave them permission to use tax money for their ugliness? What kind of fund is this??? Please continue to help keep the plug pulled. The swamp is gradually draining.

I so agree with you! Sexual misconduct should never be tolerated, especially by those elected to represent us in Congress or other government positions! Thank you for speaking up on this topic. Also, my husband and I both like your comments, and the way you bring out the message and add to it by your witty things you say that make us laugh. We look for your emails every day. God bless you and your family!

They must pay it all back. Congress can take it out of their fat retirement accounts. And surely, their salaries will stop--you think???

Crime must be dealt with all government officials. Since Americans belief this is the "right thing to do", when do the Clintons go on trial for a myriad of crimes. Soon, I hope.
Thanks, Mike, for being such a good reporter.
    Merry Christmas

Mr Huckabee just want to say YOUR SARAH DAUGHTER IS BRILLIANT - watch her stand up to Patetic reporter's again today - she kicked their butt's -- all women should take notice of her - not like these pathetic lairs about the sex allegations - they just can't stand they didn't get their women in the WH - keep up the great work SARAH

    Dear Mr. Huckabee,

I have been a subscriber to your newsletter for years, and have enjoyed your comments emencely. You seem to find the right tone for most situations. Again your tone is correct. Although, in this instance, we should burn someone, or several someones, at the stake. I wonder which midnight-hour, horse-trade this slush fund rode in on. But, no matter which one it is abominable and certainly should be repaid and a bright light shone on the guilty parties. I agree that the recipients should be protected, but no country should pay for the sins of its representatives. As usual, they have forgotten who they serve.

I wish you would help me spearhead a nationwide ballot initiative institute to term limits in both chambers of Congress. We can add the dissolution of this slush fund as an amendment.

    God Bless,

My husband (now retired) taught sexual harassment awareness classes that were mandated for the employees at the large corporation he was employed by in the state of WI. He is mystified as to the absence of sexual ethics in the halls of congress where congress men and women were making laws to protect workers at every level in our country. We both are wondering what did the congressional Ethics committee do?? besides doll out hush money.

Mr. Huckabee, I Love reading your newsletter ! My Father, rest his soul, survived 33 missions in the tailgunner position of a B-17,
and he would be so disgusted to see the downward spiral of our leadership in this Great Country which he and my Mother, and all of our Blessed Veterans, through their sacrifices, gave so very much, and worked so hard to keep safe.
You, your Daughter, Our President, and your Families, are the Heroes now, and I applaud your tireless efforts to get the truth out.
    Thank You All !
Apparently " draining the swamp" was more than an excellent choice of words !

I agree completely! Those guys who committed these sexual assaults should PAY BACK our taxpayer money in spades! And depending how long ago each "silence payment" was, WITH INTEREST! And their names should be made public, and they should all resign! That's outright thievery! I guess they thought they were so important that their dastardly deeds should go unpunished! Thanks for reporting this.

What has been lost on this nation is
the fact or condition of being accountable; responsibility.
These Men & Women are set to a higher standard than the common man, but that doesn't excuse any person from these heinous acts. The BIBLE states that they are STEWARDS of this nation.
    Corinthians 4:2
In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.
--But then again neither is the pulpit clergy being held to this standard of scrunity.

These men (women not excluded too) in the DC cesspool desperate to do what it takes to get ahead and having reached the goal of congress and power of importance have not conquered their inner self but rather emboldened it. They are the corrupted "swampers" that make deals, acreate laws that secretly benefit the Cronies and steal away tax money from descent citizens. They are protected by "Special Interest" corrupters guised as high paid Lobbiest who recognize and pick and protect their kind to twist!

They become self entitled flagrant sex offenders protected by the "Good ole Boys" who make and break deals for personal corrupt selfish gains! And, there is always a collection of "hang around starlets" to supply them their twisted ego needs that trade their self esteem away as they become a protected spectical of their pleasure!

    I saw it all.

    12/06/2017 01:54 PM

If congress is going to do their job, the first thing that should be done is to eliminate that office fund, publish the names of the offenders, make them pay back the money taken from us the people, and have them step down from public office since it has been so abused. I hope that Jackie Speier and Marsha Blackburn will put up a huge fight for this and not back down! Then publish the names of the ones who scream the loudest against it! I wonder how many of those names would be on that list!

    Dear Mike,
I just wrote a letter to Mitch McConnell about that very thing. I warned him that we voted for Trump because we were FED-UP with the self-serving, career protecting of Congresspersons. THOSE MEN MUST BE TERMINATED FOR THEIR IMMORAL ILLEGAL BEHAVIORS, AND THEY MUST PAY BACK THE HUSH-MONEY THEY PAID WITH TAX PAYERS MONEY. THEY MUST LOE 1/2 OF THEIR RETIREMENTS AND I ASKED SENATOR MCCONNELL TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. It's about time that "we the people" take a very active voice about the decisions and acts of Congress persons. We BELIEVE in this President. We tried dignity of Bush, a little from Clinton, but mostly muck, and none with Obama. Now, we want this real man who cares really cares about the condition of this country get fixed. Let him alone. Give him advice as you wish, but Listen to this man. Thank you, God, for President Trump.
Let's clean house in Congress. The ultimate would be TERM LIMITS.

I have to agree with Kathy Armstrong. We as Americans DESERVE to be represented, and SERVED by honest, and clear thinking men and women. If they must paw their aides, and commit these egregious acts, they perhaps need to be
treated to the disapline like the Middle East, where the offending appendage is removed. Perhaps too, if we put DOWN the remote, and pick up the Bible, we can see some light in the tunnel of corrution in government.

  • Kathy Armstrong

    12/05/2017 08:58 PM

I agree totally with you. It makes me so angry to know that these "good for nothings" get away with stealing our money to pay for their sins. Every year we LEGAL senior citizens of this country, born and raised here, have worked our entire lives to make a living for our families. Now we have to hear that we do not deserve a raise in our Social Security checks, and yet these perverts are paid high salaries to do next to nothing to improve our country and then they are given a pass to steal from us. Forgive me for ranting, but this is the way I feel about this and yet there is nothing we, as regular citizens, can do to fix it. I at one time had respect for our elected officials regardless of their political views, but now I have no respect for any of them EXCEPT for President Trump and Vice President Pence. I am sure Ptesident Trump is not perfect but he is at least trying to do something to bring some respect back to our country.

  • Rod Duran

    12/05/2017 06:13 PM

I'm a sinner just like anyone else and I'll be judged just like them but this has to stop! Our tax dollars should not be going to support their hush money fund. The whole list should be released. True or not $17 mil. so they can continue in this terrible behavior. The one's on the list should be removed from office and pay the money themselves. I been praying for this country and our leaders that God would get their attention. That we would turn this country back to the Lord who blessed this great country and honor Him give Him the glory.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Mike. I also agree with one of the commenter's statements that it is time to enact term limits to remove this attitude of entitlement that seems to come with a position in Congress. Our only problem is how will we ever get Congress to vote for term limits on themselves? Just look at John Conyers; he was one of those guilty Congressmen who made a career out of being a politician, but was at the forefront in terms of guilt for sexual harassment. He's "retiring" in the wake of these allegations. Does that mean that he gets his huge pension? Will a repayment for his payoffs be made to the U.S. treasury?

  • David Paul Altopp

    12/05/2017 03:16 PM

As usual, Governor Huckabee, you hit the nail squarely on the head in regard to these elected individuals. This is more than appalling. It is more than "over the top." It is more than any phrase one could use to describe these despicable persons and their deeds. Then to add insult to injury, paying to cover up their sins with taxpayer funds. They should be made (forced if necessary) to repay the funds WITH interest and immediately resign from Congress. The embarrassment alone should be enough for them to resign!!

109% on the money!! NO taxpayer money should pay for their misdeeds. Tantamount to us paying fines for DUI s or anything else. Any money paid out should be refunded from their salaries or retirements. It is NOT OUR BILL TO PAY!!!

  • Curt Senka

    12/05/2017 12:47 PM

I'm sorry Mr. Huckabee. You lost any real credibility on such issues from a spiritual perspective when you supported a presidential candidate guilty of the same thing. You should take the time to evaluate what makes you the most angry over this, is it the sin or the money. You only show outrage over the money so far, you apparently had no problem enthusiastically supporting a president with the same sin. Think for a second how your Christian witness has been damaged over this.

I do believe our maker (God) has gotten fed up with men who cannot lead a respectful life while serving in the White House. These men were placed there out of respect for the man. We do not have a long time before our God will be coming back. Maybe with enough exposure they will all straighten their lives out and get right again before it is to late. Let's hope so anyway.

Paying back taxpayers' money should not be an option, or rely solely on the perpetrators' "honour" - it should be mandatory under punishment of law! Other than that, I agree with you completely. I am outraged and disgusted by this whole mess! It is now time to pass term limits - the only way to stop the sense of entitlement we see constantly in every member who has been elected more than once.

Governor Huckabee, thank you for your voice and your service to our country. Merry Christmas and God Bless! Also, would you please convey to President Trump and others my message. No matter Republican, Democrat or Independent, I do not and will not donate to any public office for the very reason you state in the above. Also I live on fixed income and I am angered that while we do not get the slightest raise, our hard earned tax dollars are used for a slush fund that you speak of above. I agree with you, it is about right from wrong! We need to elevate our standards of living all across the board and world wide! I congratulate you and others who are striving to make things right. Kudos to Sarah, she makes my day brighter! I would gladly sweep out the congress floor but I will not donate! I pay my taxes! Enough said.

    12/05/2017 09:23 AM

You are right on the money as usual. For congress to even think of passing this kind of legislation to protect themselves at taxpayer expense shows a corrupt mentality. When we think of how congress is not subject to Obamacare, have enhanced pension packages (do not participate in Social Security, and a "get out of jail free card" (i.e. taxpayers paying for their indiscretions), we need to ask ourselves who are they really working for.

When I hear how government spends our money it makes me wonder if they all should be charged with bankruptcy, because this how we would be treated as a citizen.
Being retired and on a fixed income I've always been upset how the government can keep borrowing from the Security Social fund and never pay it back. They call this good business I don't think so. The enlightenment in this article is good info keep it up.

  • Terri Rinke

    12/05/2017 08:37 AM

I am shocked that this was going on, should never have happened, and everyone/anyone who has had anything to do with this slush fund should be forced to repay the money and be fired!
This has been a stain on our beautiful America. All the corruption that is beginning to unravel should be dealt with severely, clean that swamp out if we are to ever trust our political system again.

    12/05/2017 06:41 AM

I agree with all you have said. No one is perfect but it is not my place to pay for your mistakes. It is yours. I am sick of the political correctness movement that asks us to overlook everything in the name of love. That is such garbage. We need to face up to our sins, our shortcomings, etc. I don't condemn the person who makes a bad decision but I sure get tired of them running to others to cover up by blaming the other guy. It reminds me of trying to talk through a problem when the person you are talking with keeps saying " but it is not as bad as so and so did." Help us, God to face our own behavior and pay for our own choices. People who defend themselves by pushing back from their failures by pretending it didn't happen are not what we need in government. It always costs somebody. Please take a look at yourself and come out from under the floor boards. Thanks, Mike Huckabee. I have no doubt we have been duped and it needs to stop. Non political, just ethical.

    12/05/2017 05:23 AM

    Dear Gov. Mike,
What ever happened to integrity? These people made a pledge to their constituents, and took an oath of office. If they cheat on their wives, families, and friends, they will in other circumstances too.
No one is perfect, but to set up a (s)hush fund on purpose, with taxpayer money for immoral purposes is beyond the imagination almost. These perps should, and MUST be revealed. The money must be paid back, and they should be removed from office, if not already retired. Furthermore, the huge retirement funds given to each for life, MUST be rescinded. If you want to drain the swamp, don't just funnel some waste water from the top....dredge it to get rid of the sludge!

  • Carol Mathews

    12/05/2017 12:25 AM

I thought the excuse that Conyers gave was classic. he said that he didn't use the fund money but used his own office budget as though that money was someway okay. Light bulb moment. Where does he think his office or department budget comes from? It is all tax payers money. His salary, his budget, the lights burning in his office, AC and heat, all comes from the taxpayers. There is no little fairy from Neverland placing money in their hands. Just shows you how totally out of touch they are with the real world. Term limits, a must!!!

  • Kathy Preston

    12/05/2017 12:24 AM

Using taxpayers money to cover up their misdeeds or sexual misconduct is out and theft. That money is supposed to be used for other things such as doing their jobs. They are sexual predators and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

    12/05/2017 12:23 AM

I truly feel we are in an ethical meltdown. And, the biggest offenders are setting in seats of authority in our Congress and they waiting for another one to join them. They passed a tax bill to please their wealthy friends at the sacrifice of those just getting by or living paycheck to paycheck. I'm certain not one of them has any idea of what that life like. I do, was there at one time in my life. Thanks to my faith I was able to pull myself out of it and live a retirement that is comfortable. But, unfortunately not everyone is able to do that. Thank you~

  • Elaine Liming

    12/05/2017 12:05 AM

I am with you; I am very angry. However this swamp needs draining and sex area is best place to start. Their lack of morality is sick.
I want those I vote for to be citizens of character and models of morality. The fact they have taken tax dollars to pay for these addictions is mind blowing. It is time to remind them and others that bad behavior has consequences and they should be given their pink slips and pay back to taxpayers what they took from the treasury. Audit is in order!

  • Judy Radley

    12/04/2017 11:54 PM

I wholeheartedly agree! It isn't just women being sexually harassed by men, it is men by men, women by women, any thing that is sexual misconduct against another person is totally wrong and needs to be shown who did what against who... and IT IS A CRIME! These are the same ones who are violating against others, who write in the EEOC, the EOC, etc., and they aren't even following their own laws... Which is typical.... Too many 'politicians' get big heads and think they are above the law when they get into office, men and women. Afterall, politics is only stuff made from lies and deception against their opponents to beat them out of office. Most politicians are lawyers anyway, which is the profession for professional liars. Most lawyers are Liberal Elitists too. Which is full of immoral and corruption at every level... and the more they are corrupted, the more they are promoted.... At least with President Trump he isn't a politician..... but look at the lies the politicians are making up about him every minute of the day, and the media is all corruption too. Maybe there are a few in the media that are decent people and citizens who love America, but they are the ones the others are always making up lies about them to oust them from their positions. The good guys/gals never get ahead, because if they do, they are torn down by lies and character defamation that the others are NEVER held accountable for, and THAT TOO NEEDS TO CHANGE! Start holding the Mainstream Media that are always against Conservative views accountable too. Conservatives Matter......We deserve a voice too! And we shouldn't be beaten up because our views are opposite of the Liberal Elitists.... but that is what is happening....There are laws against that too. All who are committing harassment against others also need to have the lights turned on to them too, shown in the light what crimes they are committing against other citizens as well. They need to be charged and held accountable..... to stop this evil by shining the spotlight on them to expose them for what they truly are doing.....which is Domestic Terrorism.....making others fearful to voice their opposition against the Liberal Elitists! Start with the NFL and continue on to clean up America!Every one has the Right to their opinion, but Liberal Elites are stopping that from happening by cruel and mean and assaulting crimes against those who oppose their views. Hitler did that too....

Well, you have done that and done a marvellous job. We really enjoy your show. It gives us hope that maybe people will get back to moral values.

I have my Health Care Plan, I would like to mail or email to you. But I have some articles from our Conservative Newspaper, Roseburg, that I'd like you to read. That newspaper is one you might like to honor sometime, for printing what the media won't tell you. There is also a woman writer that I think you might like to have on your show. I have her article ready to mail. I just need a mailing address.

Love your comments, you surely do have the straight of the situation. I agree we need to know who the perverts are so we can vote them out if they don't have enough decency to resign. Definitely they. Need to be made to pay the tax money back that they stole as hush money.

  • Jim Davis

    12/04/2017 11:08 PM

I absolutely do agree that this should be the last straw. Either party, makes no difference. What would the founding fathers think if they knew how low we have allowed morality in government to sink? God have mercy on us.
