ENDORSEMENT:  "Mike, thank you for your fact-based newsletter, and especially for your wonderful sense if humor. You make me laugh out loud.

When Paul Begala expressed his admiration of President Obama for abusing executive orders to circumvent the Constitution, the Congress and the will of the voters, he famously summed it up as “Stroke of the pen, law of the land. Kinda cool.” That could easily replace California’s state motto, which is currently “Eureka!,” which sounds like something “Progressives” might say upon discovering totalitarianism.

This is timely because California leaders are once again fantasizing about using the awesome (and they believe that in every sense of the word) power of the government to force every resident to trade in his or her gas-powered car for an electric car or hydrogen by 2040. They’ve talked before about deadlines for a certain percentage of cars on the road to be EVs, but those were thwarted by the public’s stubbornness in refusing to buy them. The government forced dealers to stock them, but they just sat unsold on car lots, gathering dust like last year’s trendy Christmas toy. So now, California politicians are resorting to their favorite weapon: the heavy hand of coercive government.

ABC followup

By Mike Huckabee

Happy to report that ABC is taking more seriously the well-deserved shellacking they got over Brian Ross’ fake report on President Trump and Russia that sent the DOW plummeting 350 points.  Now, he’s not just being suspended for four weeks without pay, he will also be barred from any further reporting having to do with Trump.  On first glance, you might think it’s crazy for any news organization to continue to employ a reporter who is so reckless and biased, they admit he can’t be trusted to cover the President of the United States honestly and accurately.  On second glance, you might think that same thing, only harder.

From my personal experience with Ross, I think he should be banned from covering anything that requires reporting facts.  ABC still has “Once Upon A Time” on the air, the show based on fairy tales.  Maybe he could be transferred to their writing staff.

By Mike Huckabee

A lot of us thought schools were going to ruin when liberal school officials started handing out trophies to every kid who bothers to show up.  Proving that it’s never so bad that it can’t get worse, a liberal school administrator in Washington, DC, was handing out diplomas to kids who didn’t even bother to show up.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act

By Mike Huckabee

This week, House Republicans, joined by six Democrats, passed the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.  It would prevent people who hold concealed carry permits from being arrested and charged with a gun crime if they carry their legal weapon to another state that bans concealed carry.  The vote was 231-198.  But it still has to pass the Senate, which will be a tougher fight.

Supporters say it protects Second Amendment rights and will protect screened, qualified, legal gun owners from prosecution if they inadvertently cross into places where guns are banned.  Opponents say it weakens and undermines gun laws in anti-gun states.  Left unmentioned is that residents of “gun-free zone” states might finally have a better chance of someone being around to protect them when a criminal starts firing a gun.

Worldwide caution

By Mike Huckabee

The State Department has issued a “worldwide caution” for American travelers, due to fears of violent unrest after President Trump kept his promise to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.  Which it has been for only about 3,000 years now.

Not news

Hamas is trying to get Palestinians to abandon peace efforts and launch a new uprising against Israel in response to Trump recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.  They’re calling for “opening the gates of Hell” and “three days of rage” (Only three?  They are mellowing.)

I know this is one of the big news stories of the day, but is it really news?  Hamas would try to get Palestinians to abandon the peace process and attack Israel if Trump agreed with Israel, or if Trump blew his nose, or if the sun came up in the east.  Hamas’ statements are often given unearned respect by the media without any reminders that it is officially designated as a terrorist organization, not only by Israel but by the US and the European Union.  It makes phony appeals for peace while setting impossible conditions and continues to attack Israeli civilians.  It would only be news if Hamas did not react by calling for violence against Israel.
