As I’ve noted before, I’ve got some smart readers out there. A number of your most recent comments relate to the possible damage done to Trump’s negotiations with Kim Jong-Un by Wednesday’s Cohen hearings, timed as they were to coincide with the North Korea summit that same day in Vietnam. My dismay was shared by many of you. Here’s an example, followed by my reply:

From the “Some People Never Learn” Desk

By Mike Huckabee

Michael Cohen is going to prison to lying to Congress.  But before he enters the Graybar Hotel, he decided to stop by Congress and testify again.  Now, he could be facing additional charges for lying to Congress in his second appearance before Congress to deny that he was lying to Congress this time.

And here’s more evidence that he was lying to Congress, straight from the horse’s…mouth.

Seriously, if you want to stand up in Congress and lie to America every time you open your mouth, do it the proper way: get elected first.

Ivanka Trump comments on the "Green New Deal"

By Mike Huckabee

The latest dust-up between a Trump and the media’s favorite inexhaustible fountain of nonsense, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, involves not the President but his daughter Ivanka and the American work ethic.

In responding to AOC’s “Green New Deal,” with its “what does this have to do with the environment?” provisions for guaranteed government jobs and a free minimum income to those who can’t or aren’t willing to work, Ivanka Trump replied:

“I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something. I’ve spent a lot of time traveling around this country over the last four years. People want to work for what they get. So, I think that this idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want. They want the ability to be able to secure a job. They want the ability to live in a country where’s there’s the potential for upward mobility.”

NY Democrats contemplate legalizing "sex work"

By Mike Huckabee

Having already embraced socialism and infanticide, some Democrats are focusing on yet another winning issue by calling for legalizing prostitution. Or as they prefer to call it, “sex work.”  As New York State Senator Julia Salazar puts it, “Sex work is work, and we need to start treating it as such.”

This could be a case where the Democratic Party’s almost-daily shifting of moral standards could trip them up.  The hedonistic, “hands off my body/do your own thing/sex is personal and private” Democrats will defend legalizing prostitution at the same moment some prominent billionaires (who are already targeted for extinction by the Party’s young socialist firebrands) are getting arrested for patronizing massage parlors on grounds that they are exploiting women who may be forced to work there through human trafficking.

I imagine they’ll try to split the difference by arguing that if it were legal, it could be regulated to insure that people working in it were doing it voluntarily.  In fact, this could inadvertently be a good plan: Democrats have used regulations and taxes to destroy any number of legal businesses, from manufacturing to coal mining.  Maybe legalizing “sex work” and then putting Democrats in charge of regulating and taxing it the same way they do all other “work” will finally eradicate it.  If anything can actually destroy the world’s oldest profession, it’s liberal economic policies.

SCOTUS decision on monuments likely in June

By Mike Huckabee

The Supreme Court heard arguments by a group of atheists seeking to force the removal of a large cross-shaped monument in Prince George’s County, Maryland, that was erected after World War I to honor the war dead.  They claim that this violates the separation of church and state.  Thankfully, most of the Justices did not seem inclined to separate common sense from the law and order that a 93-year-old piece of history memorializing fallen war heroes be knocked down to placate the plaintiffs.

A decision will come at the end of June.  Let’s hope it will not require that this and similar memorials to the war dead be removed all over America simply because a handful of atheists with way too much free time on their hands don’t like the shape of them, want to eradicate all vestiges of religion from US history and the public square, and think that associating a cross with the dead means the government is forcing every American to become a Christian.  Next, they’ll be claiming that the Pentagon is forcing citizens to become Pentecostals.

I wish the Court would not only rule against these whiners but also order them to attend a showing of the new World War I documentary, “They Shall Not Grow Old.”  Maybe that would give them some perspective on history, sacrifice and how microscopic their alleged problem is compared to what the soldiers of World War I had to face.

NC Democrats:  Change "F" grades from 60% and 39%

By Mike Huckabee

When you can’t meet standards in some endeavor, there are two options: demand more effort or lower the standards.  Some North Carolina Democratic legislators want to take academic standards to the basement with a bill that would lower the school grade for an “F” from 60% to 39%.

Pretending that students are succeeding academically by getting four out of ten answers right does no favors for students or for competent teachers who are trying to uphold higher standards for education.  For instance, can you imagine someone believing they’re an expert in economics because they have a degree in it when 60% of what they think they know about the subject is wrong?  Wait, come to think of it, I can imagine someone like that.  And we sure don’t need more of them!

Convicted liar returns to Congress to spew more lies

By Mike Huckabee

Yesterday’s House sleazefest featuring Michael Cohen was trumpeted far and wide across the media for all the “revelations” about Trump that Cohen allegedly made.  But were they really “revelations”?  Doesn’t that imply that we learned something both new and verifiably true?  Actually, all we heard were the same anti-Trump attacks that have been retailed on leftwing media outlets and websites for over two years, only this time, spewed into the Congressional Record by a convicted liar.  Is this really what the media accept as “evidence” these days?

I have a couple of writers who have worked with me for years, first on my radio show and then my TBN show, and they also contribute to and do background research work for my newsletter.  I first came to know Pat Reeder and Laura Ainsworth from their daily syndicated radio service, the Comedy Wire, which impressed me not only with the wit of the one-liners but also their depth of understanding of the news and their research and fact-checking, which was often better than serious news prep services.  They seemed to have a sixth sense for spotting “fake news.”  So I asked Pat how they would apply their methods of vetting stories to the Cohen hearing.  While I’m glad they work for me, I think you’ll agree that CNN and many other news outlets could use their services, too.  Here’s Pat’s response:

More NYT Fake News

By Mike Huckabee

The New York Times just provided us with another example of why the term “fact check” has been degraded by partisanship to the level of “fake news.” The paper’s editors pompously attempted to “fact check” President Trump’s justified outrage at Senate Democrats blocking a bill that would have required doctors to provide life-saving medical care to babies born alive during abortion procedures. They accused him of “misleading” people by saying it amounted to doctors “executing” babies. They apparently forgot that a “fact” is not the same thing as “a feeble attempt at spin based on subjective opinion.”

The best "correction" they could come up with is that late term abortions are “rare,” only about 1% of all abortions (and so what? They misled their readers by not mentioning that that’s still 10,000 such procedures a year, in a nation where the vast majority of citizens think it should be banned by law entirely.) They also nitpicked that the doctors don’t actively “kill” the babies, they just let them die naturally by doing nothing to save them. Talk about a distinction without a difference!

On the story about lowering academic standards: I wonder if those idiots would be comfortable being under the care of a surgeon who got a 39% grade.
