If you want to see the results of leftist policies, go to the cities that are run by the most elite, wealthy and “progressive” people, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle, where homelessness, filth and disease are taking over. The scene is shocking and heartbreaking.

In an appearance on Monday’s HANNITY, I pointed out that this is the kind of thing that used to be seen only in Third World countries. For decades, we could be confident that we had eradicated serious diseases such as plague and typhus. But today, the rat infestation is so serious that police officers (five at this writing) in the central LA area are coming down with typhus, and some medical experts suspect that bubonic plague is present. BUBONIC PLAGUE. You know, the “Black Death” from medieval times that wiped out about a third of Europe’s population and lingered for centuries. In the 1600s, during the Great Plague of London, one in five residents died.

During those long centuries, no connection was made between rats and fleas and the disease they caused. In fact, some medieval doctors believed it was caused by pockets of bad air released during earthquakes or possibly by an unfavorable alignment of Saturn, Jupiter and Mars in the 40th degree of Aquarius on March 20, 1345. Some of them believed that bad smells could drive out the plague, so they spread excrement around, actually furthering the spread of the disease. And bathing was discouraged, as it was believed that this opened the pores and made one more susceptible to infection. Just goes to show, there’s hardly anything more worthless than a medieval doctor, except perhaps economist Paul Krugman.

We finally do have antibiotics that can treat plague, and most people survive if they get the correct medicine in time. (Otherwise, it’s about 50-50.) But the main way to deal with it is still with good sanitation and pest control, as a plague epidemic needs filthy, crowded and rat-infested conditions to get going. Large cities have always had to deal with rats; there’s no New Yorker of any age who hasn’t heard jokes about the size of New York rats. But the kind of infestation we’re seeing now is something else again, thanks to mountains of garbage and human waste.

An article in National Geographic points out that plague still exists in various parts of the world. The most recent global epidemic started in China in the 1800s and didn’t end till 1959. (This outbreak actually spread to San Francisco through Chinese immigration.) In 2006, an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo took the lives of at least 50 people. In recent years, there have been cases in China, India, Mongolia, Vietnam and...the United States.

We’re always concerned about the threat of terrorists possibly releasing bacteria such as plague in some aerosol form. But who needs terrorists when your own government bureaucrats are fully capable of letting it take hold and metastasize on their own streets?

I hesitated to link to the article about bubonic plague because I’m not trying to sensationalize this problem. (In fact, if you’re a hypochondriac, you might not want to read it at all, and just remember that unless you live or work around this filth, you’re generally safe.) But it’s important for people to see the seriousness of the threat of this and other diseases and not let political correctness get in the way of handling it. We don’t want leftists to, in effect, give the bubonic plague bacterium or some other microbe full civil rights because it happens to take hold among the homeless population.

Anyway, in these large, dirty, poorly run cities, there are victims beyond the hard-core homeless (although they are victims, too). I feel especially sorry for two groups of people: the ones who want to get out of there but who can’t afford to leave, and also for those police officers and public health officials who are risking their own lives and health and fighting a losing battle, with no assistance from the mayor and City Council, who should be ashamed of themselves for even taking a paycheck if this is the best they can do.

In San Francisco, House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi lives and works behind security gates, within a mile of some of the most filthy, horrific examples of this. Large numbers of homeless people are camping out alongside the buildings, using the sidewalks and stairwells for toilets, shooting up drugs and tossing their used syringes all over the ground. Pelosi doesn’t want a wall for America, but in San Francisco, she has one for herself, just as all her cronies do. The hypocrisy and downright insanity of “progressivism” is too obvious to ignore.

This isn’t just a political discussion --- this is a discussion of how America is going to survive as a civilization if we keep going on this track. But politics is keeping us from dealing with it.

From this linked-to article in the LA Times, one can see that some participants at Los Angeles city council meetings are making heroic efforts not to blame homeless people.  They’re in huge denial and are spinning madly by trying to blame such things as the overwatering of plants (I am not kidding) for the rat population explosion. Clearly, it’s the homelessness --- fostered mostly by drug and alcohol abuse and mental illness --- in “progressive” cities affordable to only the very wealthy that has caused the huge infestation of rats and their disease-carrying fleas.

I wish I could be more optimistic, but it’s hard to imagine any improvement in these cities until leftists are voted out and some hands-on leaders can come in at the city and state levels and do what it takes to eradicate the problems. It all comes down to the voters wising up, but they seem to have the collective IQ of a diseased flea.

I am absolutely speechless...I knew that CA was in bad shape because of the calls I received while working on a prayer line! However, it sounds like we must pray for a spiritual awakening in the entire state! Your sister in Christ...aeriemiss

Until we get these Karl Marx Dems out of office we will not get better. They are intent on destroying our Republic. I hope America rises up before it is too late and votes them out. Vote Red til you're dead and never let them in power or office if we are lucky again . Their hatred for Trump leaves them completely void of all rational thought.

Listened to Matt Markovich from KOMO TV here in Seattle last night at our Women of Washington meeting. He produced Seattle Is Dying. Watch it on You Tube. I sat with you at the WOW talk you gave in Bellevue a few years ago where we shared with the VITAE Foundation.

WHY are people homeless? How many in each category?
Are there illegal immigrants among the homeless? How many?
How many of the homeless of any given city were residents of that city 5 years ago? 10 years ago?

And Portland, Oregon in my home state is right behind the big three. I see snippets of news from the networks outside of Fox and hear public speakers of all ilk repeating lies that have been debunked many times over and wonder how are we ever going to spread the word about electing the people who won't tell us lies and do their jobs without the likes of Pelosi or Clinton or Mayor Pete or Bernie preaching all their B.S.

One other "cause" of the plague in Europe was claimed to be cats, since they were connected to the Devil and witches. So people killed cats, keeping them from killing rats, making the plague that much worse.

I couldn’t agree with you more, Governor. It the dull minded voters that are ultimately responsible for the mess the localities find themselves in. Like their constituents, the far left officials seem to be ones that are so insanely focused on radical liberal agendas they are blinded to reality of the serious threats our country is facing right here at home. It would appear they might be over playing their political hand but, given the mentality of democrat voters these days, I wouldn’t bet on it. I believe God has given them over to strong delusion because of their hatred for truth.

In Seattle you can't even use the public parks because they are overrun with homeless. Yesterday there was a story about a business owner who decided to treat his employees to a barbecue at Woodland Park in Seattle. He paid $300 to rent a picnic shelter and when he arrived early to set things up he had to evict a number of homeless that were using the shelter. They refused to take their things so he had to deal with that mess as well as prepare for the picnic. During the festivities the homeless wondered in and around the guests using the outdoor sink to wash hair and just being a pain in general. Guests were leaving because their children were getting excrement on them as the dogs played and then made contact with the kids. I live outside of Seattle and refuse to go there. Perhaps fortunately there is a city council election this fall and there are some genuinely good candidates on the ballot. But as you said, voters "seem to have the collective IQ of a diseased flea."

So if this is not a problem "created" by rinos HOW can people like waters and pelosi and feinstein completely ignore and deny the problem exists? Can it be the rinos are "using" this "creation" as a way to complain about the jackasses??

Our failure in government is the classic spiral downwards of our system of government. I believe this country is on a downward spiral that will either result in civil war or the advent of tyranny ( a dictatorship). We cannot manage the country with the two dominant political parties at continuous loggerheads. The news media has become an instrument of propaganda for those who have an agenda. The people are being manipulated beyond their comprehension. Our educational system fails to prepare our citizens to function in our society. Continuing to do the same thing the same way over an over while expecting different results is a classic definition of insanity. We MUST change the way we govern. We must amend the Constitution to limit terms, salaries, benefits, etc. These limits must apply to all who are employed, appointed or elected by all governments federal, state and local and to all members of the government. Government service should be just that, a service one performs with little or no recompense. We must change the courts, federal, state an local to conform to the limits we place on all other government officials. We must make our government responsive to the people. This includes the Legislative, the Judicial and the Executive, federal, state and local. We must return to some, I stress some, of the things of the past that while less than perfect did work. Vagrancy laws, mental hospitals or institutions, minimal exposure to patriotism in our educational curriculum, some method of ensuring a fair and free election process. We must face the fact that our deluge of illegal entry to our country is the result of those who hire these people. Put in place laws which restrict such employment, which deny any an all social support of illegals and ENFORCE these laws and the illegal entry problem will cease. This of course will directly impact on the major political contributors, the wealthy, businesses, etc., and will require courage and strength on the part of all. Personally, I think the only solution is to put in place and enforce a law which requires the TOTAL forfeiture of all personal and business property an any other assets held by any who knowingly or unknowingly hire an illegal. While I am conservative in spirit I see little in either party or in our system which inspires confidence in the future of our country. I do not believe the American people are capable of making the effort necessary to change our system. As a people we respond slowly to the need for change an it usually takes a catastrophe for us to realize we must do something. We drifted over a period of many years into a civil war which should and could have been resolved earlier and with less loss of life and property. For the elite who manage this country there must be an awakening to the discontent of the people. The election of Trump was a clear call for CHANGE. Yet our congress will NOT work with our President to mend our fences, literally or figuratively. There is not a single issue facing this nation which cannot be solved and quickly. Our leaders, the elite must see the need for this action otherwise we will continue downward. Wish I could be more upbeat but we are in danger an one must at least sound a warning.

During the relentless scrolling of relevant news. I discovered a serious solution to man's frailty. We need mental health instructions. It dawned on me that for most of America's history We had regular mental health instructions. Those kept us mighty for two centuries. We developed the purest mental health from church. If we don't call it church think of the myrad of problems that could be solved forever. Even liberals can not deny. Mental health failure is the root of most of our issues. Drugs, violence, homeless people all are mental disorder problems. Now we have to sell it. Not for profit sales. Sales by love. Thanks for reading.

I find it almost impossible to believe that the rank and file of work-a-day citizens on the left coast are in favor of this..or anything even close to it...almost. However..they continue to vote for those that have allowed their cities to become such cesspools. Considering the extent of this collective insanity..maybe there really is something in the water.

Governor: You are so right about what you point out about some of our cities. Is any Republican keeping track so maybe these facts with pictures can be used for the campaign of 2020? Because to the best of my knowledge, these cities are examples of mainly Democrat control and agendas for how many years?
Sadly, there seems to be too many blind young people who can't see the true agenda of the Democrat-Socialist and their ultimate agenda, but I hope some start getting their eyes opened. The Democrats will ruin this country if enough Republicans, Patriots, and yes, all of us Deplorable s don't get out and vote in 2020. And if the Christian/Evangelicals sit back and don't vote, then sadly they will get to witness what happens when you allow the culture (and the Democrats) to influence our world, instead of us Christians influencing the world. The opposition wants to silence us, as Christians, as Republicans (Deplorable's) and Patriots. They will have the phony and lying mainstream media helping them all the way. The Democrats will cheat and commit voter fraud at every turn in the next election. So how vital is the turnout for Republicans, Christians, Patriots, etc. to get out and vote in 2020, so vital, that it may very well mean the difference of how this nation will look if God forbid the Democrats take over the White House, the House and the Senate. And once again, where are the majority of the Republicans? So many still sitting back and letting their Republican President stand way out front of them and say almost nothing to support them. Then you have the fake and traitor Republicans who should just switch parties and go with the Democrats, with emphasis on "rats" !!
Thank you again Governor for pointing out the facts and the rest of the story. Thanks to your daughter Sarah and all that she does against all the abuse that is directed at her from the lying mainstream media, etc.

This is pure insanity. It is hard to believe it is even happening. The sane people of this country better rise up and do something about it and vote these democrats out of office. After years of our state being under democratic control..........things were getting bad here too. Our republican governor, Larry Hogan, has done a good job of turning things around. But like Trump, he still has to fight the democrats that are still in office. They are doing all they can to undo what he has done and continue with their deliberate destruction.

If rats carry bubonic plaque, it’s not just Los Angeles that is in danger. Chicago has a rat problem even though city puts down rat poison in alleys when city hall is notified. Area I’ve seen rats is in high immigrant neighborhoods with overcrowded apartment buildings. The garbage cans overflow with refuse onto alley because lids are left open. This is a feast for rats and they breed fast.

I KNOW there are conservatives in CA--at least one-my cousin!! A really big problem also is that the socialists are telling all these people that, but for the conservatives, their (socialist) ideas would be working to make their lives better. It's all the Republicans' fault, you know. For all what are supposed to be intelligent people (computer tech) they are stupid. That, or their lives are as cushy as pelosi and friends' are, so living in their bubbles, listening to msm, they have NO CLUE. It doesn't take a mental giant to figure out that a great deal of the homelessness is actually illegal aliens. Then, the poor Californians who have been priced out of even modest homes, and I'm betting there are a good number in this category. I'm actually surprised that the former gov of CO and that other guy at the democrat convention, while not even near center, at least were more rational in their statements. I'm not surprised they were boo'd. I don't know the program, but on radio this afternoon, there was some moron slowly telling us conservatives are "afraid" that the President will call for another national crisis. You know, building that wall and keeping more homeless with all the feces, needles, etc that they produce out IS a national crisis!!! Wonder how the left is going to blame these diseases on Donald Trump? Cuz they will, and newsome will be DEMANDING more federal tax dollars to deal with the problem THEY have made. THEY know the root of this problem, but certainly will not pass that on the the citizens. I would hope there are enough sane, rational people (regardless of political identity) who recognize the insanity.

I believe democrat politicians DO see what's happening and they've created it intentionally. Their support for Agenda 21 (now 2030) has their complete buy-in. Imagine how life will be when everyone has been driven into these filthy cities, as prescribed by the climate change narrative. The Waters of America, Wetland and Wildlands policies they're so eager to promote will make it impossible for people to live in rural areas. They'll be off limits to most of us. The UN has to bring America to its knees to accomplish its goals. If our younger generations don't wake up (which is unlikely) they will live in stack-and-pack housing in filthy cities. This is the future of our children and grandchildren who, ironically, will make it happen.

Democrats only stay in power by cheating at the ballot box. I can't believe the population can't organize and vote them out, and police the elections.
