SHAKE-UP AT THE DEFENSE DEPARTMENT
Monday, President Trump fired Defense Secretary Mark Esper, announcing that Esper would be immediately replaced by Christopher C. Miller, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center.
Trump gave no reason for the firing, but during the summer, Esper said he didn’t support invoking the Insurrection Act to use federal troops to quell the riots (which may be true, but you don’t undercut your boss’s ability to use the threat of invoking it.) There’s also reportedly conflict over whether to brief Biden associates on defense issues before the election is even settled. This set off other shakeups including resignations and likely further firings and reassignments.
I’m just linking to these stories because most of the mainstream media coverage is overheated partisan speculation about how Trump is “dangerously” purging the Pentagon to stack it with “loyalists.” Because no President in history until now has ever expected his Cabinet members not to publicly undercut his authority. That must be why the DC deep state is so teeming with Trump loyalists.
OUR NEUTERED MEDIA
Tuesday, Joe Biden (I’ll call him President-Elect Biden if and when he actually becomes that) held a press conference, and we got to see the 180-degree change in how the media will behave toward the President if he replaces Trump. It’s sort of like the difference in your dog before and after he’s neutered.
Biden helped by not calling on any reporters who might even possibly ask a hard question. The rest remained in their old habit of making most questions about how horrible Trump is, don’t you agree?
If they're really having trouble thinking of questions, I have one that has nothing to do with China, voter fraud, fracking, socialism, Hunter's laptop, court stacking or any of the myriad other subjects we’re not allowed to ask about. This is it:
“Sir, you’ve claimed that President Trump has never done anything to help anyone other than himself, yet he’s donated his entire $1.6 million Presidential salary back to the Treasury. Since you are also independently wealthy, having made an estimated $15 million in the two years after leaving office in 2016, will you also donate your paycheck back to the government?”
THE BLUE-WAVE THAT WASN'T
The good news that came out of last week’s election is the “blue wave” that wasn’t. Despite Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi claiming a “mandate” to impose the Democrats’ agenda, the only potential good news for them was at the very top of the ticket, and that’s not settled yet, no matter how many fictitious “Office of the President-Elect” banners they print at Kinko’s.
According to the pollsters, who turned out to be less reliable than a Magic 8-Ball, the Dems were supposed to easily retake the Senate (with far more Republicans defending seats than Democrats) and increase their House majority. Instead, the Senate balance hangs on two runoffs in Georgia, after Democrat Cal Cunningham finally conceded to Republican Sen. Thom Tillis in North Carolina, and it appears that Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan will easily win reelection in Alaska, bringing the GOP total to 50.
Republicans haven’t retaken the House, but they actually increased their numbers, and could gain even more. Tuesday, as the long counts continued, they added one seat and retained another.
In Texas, which is always just on the cusp of “turning blue,” the Dems didn’t pick up a single House seat. Tuesday, Republican Beth Van Duyne was declared the winner in Texas District 24, retaining that seat for the GOP. Meanwhile, in Orange County, California, Republican Michelle Steel took back a seat that the Democrats flipped in 2018, adding another seat to the GOP total. There are still two more California races where Republicans are ahead, one a potential flip and the other a retention.
In another bit of news worth mentioning, so far, the GOP has added 14 new women to its House caucus. That’s the type of news that would be celebrated all over the media if it happened for Democrats, but I’m telling you here because you might not hear about it otherwise.
REGISTERING TO VOTE AFTER YOU DIE
Sen. Lindsay Graham, citing information from the Trump campaign, claimed that among early voters and absentee/mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania, they’d found over100 people who were believed to be dead, 15 who are verified to be dead but voted anyway, and six who somehow managed to register to vote after they died.
I’m sure the media will find a rational explanation for that, like that the dead rose to register to vote on Halloween.
REPLACING PELOSI AS SPEAKER ISN'T IMPOSSIBLE
I told you that I think there’s virtually no chance Nancy Pelosi will lose her iron grip on the Speaker’s gavel. But just FYI: there are some articles popping up to suggest one extreme longshot way that she might be removed. Since Republicans have gained enough seats to get very close to parity, all they would need is a few moderate Democrats who are sick of their Party’s toxic lurch to the far left to join with them, and they could replace her with a moderate compromise candidate.
Sure, it’s not likely, but we can dream, can’t we? And as Ed Driscoll at Instapundit points out, it would give Pelosi more time to get her hair done.
READERS WRITE IN FROM BATTLEGROUND STATES
Of the numerous letters we’ve received in response to Tuesday morning’s commentary, some were from the battleground states currently under scrutiny by the Trump campaign and, apparently, by some in federal law enforcement. Georgia, in particular, is taking center stage with the critical importance of the upcoming Senate races there. I though it would be good to pass along what a couple of these had to say.
From Ed T. of Pennsylvania:
I live in Pennsylvania, and I feel, like most people here, that we were robbed from the results of the election. With very few exceptions, no matter where you went in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, you saw Trump signs everywhere, and the election results do NOT reflect that! Sure, Philadelphia is always gonna go with the lunatic faction, with some exceptions and parts of Center County and Westmorland County also, but by and large what I saw personally here was Trump supporters everywhere I went!
The rats ?? from the swamp spread out, and the idiots who can’t understand normal thinking followed along and did their bidding for Biden and company. A horribly sad outcome for EVERYONE in America, rats included, because at some point they will realize exactly what adults with real intelligence tried to tell everyone. God have mercy on us all.
From the Gov:
Thank you, Ed, for writing. We have some breaking news from your state: As Tucker Carson reported Tuesday evening, lawmakers in Pennsylvania have called for “a bipartisan investigatory committee” with subpoena power (important) to look into voter fraud. I hope we QUICKLY get to the bottom of what might have happened there to effectively disenfranchise the people you talk about –- the thousands and thousands who went to Trump’s rallies (we saw it!) and many more besides. When leftists say to “count every vote,” they do not mean YOURS. Maybe we’re not too late to stop what they’re trying to do.
From James S. of Georgia:
We should have acknowledged the "handwriting on the wall"! The DNC –- in lockstep with the almost totally liberal, swamp-controlled media –- have (looks like!) stolen the minds of too many Americans and have stolen this election! Talk about brainwashing, over 75,000,000 voters have had a steady diet of Hate Trump 24/7 for at least 4 years. About 71,000,000 were blessed enough to hear the truth from conservative sources (like you, Governor Huckabee!) and many more! Now, we are in a crisis situation with the potential to literally lose our country and become a Third World nation.
I never thought that the fate of America would come down to my beloved state of Georgia, but that seems to be the case. I urge all who might read this comment and agree, to use every means you may have with connections to Georgia voters, to vote for David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler for the Senate. If that "firewall" fails, God help us!!
I am praying and praying and praying, and I know God is in control, but I'm not going to lean on my shovel and pray for a hole!!!
From the Gov:
Thank you for giving your opinion of what’s happening in Georgia. We’ve even had stories about out-of-state Democrats who are planning to “move” to your state and establish residency in time to vote in those races in January and who are calling for others to do so. If Democrats would go that far, they obviously would have no problem doing what it appears they were doing for Biden on Election Day.
You’re right --- “praying for the hole” is not good enough. Every Republican in Georgia better pick up the shovel! The state of Georgia needs to have its act together in plenty of time to deal with whatever Democrats might be planning. We already know they'll be pouring millions of dollars into the campaigns for both of those senatorial races, and who knows where all that money will be coming from? (We do have a good idea.) They’ll be trying everything they think they might conceivably get away with.
These senate seats are supposed to represent the people of GEORGIA. Of course, as far as the leadership of the Democrat Party is concerned, their goal has nothing to do with what the people of Georgia want. But you don't need me to tell you that.
