Donald Trump Jr. says that every American should see this two-minute video of Dr. Deborah Birx of the White House coronavirus task force refuting some of the scaremongering that the media have been circulating. We already linked to it, but didn’t highlight it, so it seems like a good idea to do it again:

A few major points: Here in America, there is no shortage of hospital beds or ventilators for COVID-19 (Chinese) virus patients. There are no “do not resuscitate” orders for patients over 60. These doomsday claims are predictions based on a computer model of the future spread of the virus that has so far proven to be wildly exaggerated. The head of the team at Imperial College UK that created it just downgraded its initial estimate of 550,000 dead in the UK to less than 20,000. Of course, that’s terrible, but it’s about 97.3% lower than the initial prediction. And the UK was not as prepared for this as we were.

In a related story, the media are spinning the numbers of confirmed cases to make it appear that the US is the very epicenter of the pandemic. But is that a case of “GIGO”: the number crunchers’ term for “garbage in, garbage out,” or using faulty numbers to extrapolate false conclusions? See for yourself:

Of course, this is not meant to suggest that anyone should stop taking extreme precautions to avoid contamination and stop the spread of this potentially deadly disease. It is especially bad in certain places, such as New York City, which is densely populated and where the political leaders were still urging people to go out and mingle just a few weeks ago. But the narrative that it’s the end of the world and we’re totally unprepared for it is the result of equal parts Trump Derangement Syndrome and the need to fill 24 hours a day with “news” and commentary when there’s only one story to talk about.

That’s why you should rely on us for your news and commentary. If it’s really important, we’ll tell you about it. Until then, my poor staffers and I read the news – and the “news” -- so you don’t have to.

President Trump has been under fire by the left for not exercising the Defense Production Act and taking over private industries to force them to join the fight against the COVID-19 (Wuhan) coronavirus. In fact, Trump has invoked the powers of that Act, he just hadn’t exercised them – until now.

Previously, Trump said it wasn’t necessary because all companies had voluntarily retooled to help. But this week, he got frustrated waiting for GM (which owes its continued existence to a federal bailout, hence the nickname, “Government Motors) and invoked the Act’s powers to order GM to stop “wasting time” with negotiating prices and output numbers and start making ventilators.

He also tweeted, in all-caps, “FORD, GET STARTED ON VENTILATORS FAST!!!!!!” but without phrasing it as an official order to Ford…yet.

So the automakers have their marching orders, and here’s one for the media: The switch has been flipped again. Having gone from calling Trump an autocratic dictator to complaining that he’s not enough of an autocratic dictator, you can now go back to calling him an autocratic dictator again until further notice. That is all.

Friday, the FDA granted emergency use approval to a new COVID-19 coronavirus test by Abbott Labs, just one day after Vice President Pence announced it and only a few months after the virus emerged from China (and it did.) The test can detect positive results in five minutes, and negative results in under 15 minutes.

Within a matter of weeks, we’ve gone from tests that take days to 90 minutes to 45 minutes to five minutes. It once again proves how much can be done with amazing speed, thanks to human ingenuity and modern technology, if you can just get the government out of the way.

Speaking of which...

President Trump and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer are exchanging accusations over who is responsible for problems her state is having in obtaining supplies to deal with the coronavirus outbreak. You can read the details here if you want, but frankly, I think most Americans aren’t in the mood for partisan fingerpointing. If there are problems, they need to be solved now, and you can argue over blame later.

However, on a more pressing issue, Gov. Whitmer is not filling her constituents with confidence that she’s putting their best interests ahead of politics by following Nevada Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak in playing doctor without a license. Both Governors have issued orders banning doctors from the off-label use of hydroxychloroquine, particularly in combination with the drug Azithromycin, which has shown promise in early use in several nations, but which has been under attack by the left as a "false hope" because President Trump spoke of it positively.

Whitmer’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs issued a letter threatening action against the medical licenses of any doctors who prescribe it for the coronavirus, requiring health care providers who learn of a doctor prescribing it to report them to the state, and banning pharmacists from filling prescriptions for it.

Yes, it’s true that we haven’t had years of clinical trials of this drug, but when you’re in a situation where nothing else is working, death may be near and you don’t have years to spend on clinical trials, the decision about what last-ditch drug to try should rest with the doctor and patient, not state or federal bureaucrats. This is why Trump pushed for and signed the “Right To Try Law,” to stop the FDA from “protecting” terminal patients into the grave by denying them experimental treatments until after they’re long dead.

At this link is a first-hand account by a Michigan COVID-19 patient, Jim Santilli, who believes he was just hours away from death when his doctor gave him this treatment, and he began a rapid recovery. You can imagine how he feels about his Governor banning doctors from even trying it:

Santilli writes, “This is unacceptable and I’m confident Governor Whitmer, and her administration, will be responsible for many deaths and much suffering. I highly recommend she stop the politics, and not discourage doctors from using treatment they believe may work.”

While some early studies of the drug have shown great promise, there’s no proof that it’s a magic bullet. There are flaws in the studies, conflicting results, and potential side effects. You can read more about them in this article:

But the bottom line, as that story states in its headline, is, “What if hydroxychloroquine doesn’t work? What if it does? Right now, we don’t know.” It quotes a health data analyst as saying, “When dealing with a pandemic, listen to experts who are used to grappling with these problems.”

I assume that would mean doctors, not Governors.

I hope you all have constitutions like “Mr. P.” the anonymous man in Rimini, Italy, who is already home and recovering from the COVID-19 virus. He’s 101 years old and was born in 1919, during the Spanish flu pandemic, becoming the only known person to have survived both deadly worldwide pandemics, over a century apart.

The mayor called his recovery “truly extraordinary” and said he gives us all hope. She said his story teaches us that even at 101 years, "the future is not written." I’ll bet that when the future is written, Mr. P. will still be around to write it.

Inspiring Video: A Chino, California, high school choir that had to miss a dream trip to compete in Boston made the best of it by coming together in harmony over the Internet to share their rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” with the world.

I’ve reached out to my representative but no response so I thought maybe you could help. I do not understand why Walmart is allowed to continue to operate unbridled while small businesses have to close. I drove past the Walmart super center & the parking lot was full to capacity - there had to be 1,000 people in the store. Walmart continues to sell pots pans clothes shoes electronics toys - whatever & the small toy shop is shut down. Walmart is making profits while small businesses are suffering & the same majors & governors that shut down those shops are turning a blind eye to Walmart. I want to know why?

Thanks again, Gov. Mike. I heard some people in Italy were singing out of their windows down the streets during their isolation. We can't do this but you brought us beauty during ours.

That was very calming and inspirational as we find our youth not getting to do everything they WANT to do or HAVE everything they want to have. This should have an effect in their future life!!!

I am a Trump supporter. Feel some areas of the economy, in sections of the U.S. could be opened and test the if they are really going to add to the spread of this virus.

I am angry!!! I bet the barbershop is open in the capital building. The restaurant is open. I live in Bradenton, FL and our restaurants were spacing, cleaning constantly and yet they were closed down. Why can't we each week open up sectors of the economy and see how it works. I am not a fan of doctors predicting what could happen!!! The government does not even trust the residents that live here.

Would someone please erect a wall of shame with the names of all Democrats on it starting with Pelosi, Schiff, and Hillary and post it beside every highway in America and Let it be Shown on the news every day. How dare they give money at this time to Endowment for the arts when people are fighting for their lives, PPE’s and ventilators so desperately needed. How do they sleep at night?

As the country suffers thru the China virus, death that comes early to people is harder to endure than death at natural levels. That brings me to Pelosi why is she infatuated with early death and death in general? The delay in passing the relief bill adding more possible death by funding taxpayer abortion I understand a lot of these clinics are in urban settings a setting with minority populations, we are in a war against a virus that is killing people before their time should be up and she holds up the funding for a week that would increase the length of life for our people. My point conservatives already despise The left I hope liberals will start to see that the virus knows no race, ideology, or where you live, you have life the virus wants it and it is apparent so does Pelosi so I reach out to liberals that have not been brainwashed yet by the Left to please rid the country of the Virus and the Left that embraces it. Give America a better chance to live MAGA vote for life, vote for Conservatives. Babies without abortion will thank you people without the Virus will thank you, decent people will thank you let the babies live don't allow the Left to allow the extinction of the American Dream Life Liberty and let's all be Happy Liberals help your offspring flourish vote with life in your mind this is not brainwashing this is survival.

Upon getting on my this here tablet I saw the headline on my Washington Post App that came WITH the tablet and it read: "TRUMP'S RISKY BET: LIVES OR THE
ECONOMY".....and, as "innocent" as one might think that simple statement might be, it evoked a negative response from me because the "subliminal" message I heard was that President Trump might be willing to risk lives if it means helping the economy because it's the health of the economy that will determine how great America is again thanks to his leadership. (OF COURSE, THE REALITY IS THAT it will be the SPIRITUAL health of this country....AFTER this pandemic is over with.....that will determine how great America is again thanks to HIS leadership to Whom his leadership is in submission to!)

Then I went on and read a paragraph you wrote, in this newsletter, that, one more time, was in contradiction TO this Washington Post headline. I am going to copy, and paste, your paragraph I am referring to and I hope someone can get it to go "viral" OR, AT LEAST, get it to Governor Whitmer!! BELOW IS THAT PARAGRAPH......IT'S MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it’s true that we haven’t had years of clinical trials of this drug, but when you’re in a situation where nothing else is working, death may be near and you don’t have years to spend on clinical trials, the decision about what last-ditch drug to try should rest with the doctor and patient, not state or federal bureaucrats. thank you for being a voice of reason in this time of media hysterics. If only they had been as "fair" to the previous president during the H1N1 outbreak. I have been a nurse for over 50 years and am retired, but I have not seen healthcare workers spun up like this across the nation. New York City is in a true crisis but the media wants us to believe the whole nation will follow.

Gov. Mike, Thank you for the video reference to the Chino, CA choir! An amazing feat of individual effort and dead-on editing! As a resident of Riverside, CA, they are "next door" to me and I had no idea there was so much talent locally! If ever allowed to compete, I have no doubt they would place well and bring pride home to their school and families! Thanks again and Kudos Chino!

And I'm not a pharmacist... but this puzzles me: Azithromycin sounds like an antibiotic, used to treat bacterial infections. If the Wuhan Flu is a virus, why would an antibiotic be helpful?

  • Patricia Murphy,

After reading about Governor Gretchen of Michigan, I am deeply concerned about her banning the use of off label drugs. Use of drugs off label happens every day over a wide array of illnesses. I am currently out of the state and need to return home and her insanity my effect me, and my health. Could this be why Detroit hospitals are overloaded and sending patients as far away as Port Huron, when they may be able to effectively put some on the road to recovery. I keep hearing that she will never be voted back into office, but how long do we have to wait for change and how many people will die because of her. I believe she is overstepping her bounds and is threatening people with removing their licenses and ability to continue working. My husband ( now deceased) was a hospital pharmacist for 45 years, and he was put on drugs off label for his illness in effort to help him. I believe she is drunk on power.

Truth is truth, whether you believe to be or not, it doesn’t require human endorsement, and it will eventually prove itself to be so. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, then everything contrary to him is a lie. Romans 14:10b – 12 confirms this when it says, “For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: ‘“As surely as I live,” says the Lord, “Every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.”’ So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.”

I find it amazing that God only becomes real to the world through tragedy. We’ve decided that prayer and God’s commandments were no longer needed in our schools and government to guide us. Yet, when things happen that humbles the world enough, and causes us to realize our mortality and inadequacies, the world then calls on the author (God) of the very things it has dismissed. We need to return to our first love! Read the words of our founding fathers:

“The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.” John Quincy Adam

“The God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?” Thomas Jefferson

“The only means of establishing and perpetuating our republican forms of government is the universal education of our youth in the principles of Christianity by means of the Bible.”
    Benjamin Rush
“The Christian religion, in its purity, is the basis, or rather the source of all genuine freedom in government. . . . and I am persuaded that no civil government of a republican form can exist and be durable in which the principles of that religion have not a controlling influence.”
    Noah Webster

“Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the Lamb and purge my heart by Thy Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of Thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in Thy fear, and dying in Thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of Thee and Thy son, Jesus Christ.” George Washington

How do we make America great again? By putting it back into the hands of a great God. Jesus is the only way, the truth, and the life!

Devastated to hear the shut down of America is extended to April 30!!! There are worse things then death. So a fear of a virus is going to grind to halt the greatest economy in the world!!! As with other viruses people will die!!! But to destroy jobs and devastate the American workers for fear of a virus is absurd! This is not the American way!!! We are fighters and over-comers. Wake up America! Our way of life is being destroyed right before our eyes!!

So where is the 2-minute clip of Dr. Birx commenting on the pandemic??? Reading someone’s interpretation of her statements is not the same as seeing and hearing her actual address! If I’m to forward info to my Dem-lib acquaintances what you’re giving me here is inadequate. Please don’t provide me with squib-load ammunition and expect me to use it for defense.
