Neil Young just joined the seemingly endless list of rich leftist musicians complaining about their music being played by Republicans, only he’s taken the step of actually suing the Trump campaign for playing some of his songs at their events. The story is here:

Having had personal experience with this nonsense, I’ll just point out the obvious: if a venue pays for an ASCAP performance license, it is allowed to play any ASCAP licensed song it wants without having to get permission. If you want to dictate who’s allowed to play your music, then you should’ve kept it in your bedroom and not signed that evil, capitalist ASCAP contract.

Some artists are now pushing for a separate license for political events so that they can bar politicians they dislike from using their music, but as yet, that doesn’t exist. Since many of these artists are boomer icons such as Young or the Rolling Stones, I would strongly suggest that they think twice before alienating older, non-coastal Republicans. Those are not only their biggest fans, but just about the only people who still buy CDs instead of illegally downloading music files for free. They’re making the same mistake as a lot of corporations and sports leagues these days: ticking off their real fans while sucking up to people who don't patronize their product anyway.

Always was a huge Neil Young fan, but he, along with other great artists, are losing me with promoting that far left agenda. Wisen up! Do they actually know to what extent they are being used by an evil, corrupt, marxist group that will be happy to break our country!

This man is not living in the real world. If he doesn't want "his" music played, he shouldn't have marketed it in the first place. Never liked his stuff much anyway. If he supports the liberals, let him give away his money to the "less" fortunates.

"I want people to buy my music".

Will never buy another song from him. He should be proud that anyone wants to actually use his music for any reason. Another butt hurt little crybaby.

That's too bad, I listen to Christian music mostly. Some country songs if the person is respectable. But, now I have to write him off.

Neal Young needs to realize that he is getting recognition through the Trump campaign, otherwise he is just another dinosaur collecting dust in the back of a record shop...

I'm guessing he and others aren't taking into account the immense exposure their music get with President Trump? Heck, millions of people who never heard of these yahoos hear the songs, buy the tapes CD's or whatever (or, pilfer them off the world wide web!) I don't have to worry about political singers--I listen to classic country music, the really good stuff! And, since most of them have died, don't have to worry about them getting political!! So far the good country music singers that are still around haven't gotten political (that I have read about, heard of.)

If you're going to make money by allowing people to buy your music you don't have any right to tell anyone where to play the music

Music like pictures, once they are put in the stratosphere they now belong to everyone. I don't care whether or not you signed the ASCAP release.

I just scratched Neil Young off my list! It is not worth getting sued for playing music you don't care for! So long, Neil! We never knew ye!

NY is another example of a celebrity, musician, actor/actress etc etc that thinks (but don't really think) their political views are as well liked as their professional performances. In my case, I now turn the channel if anything to do with Neil Young comes my way. I remember a time when musicians might encode their political or religious views in a song. Sure would be nice if they all could behave in a magical and proper way once again, just as our country needs to do.

I hate it when the musicians I enjoy open their mouths to do something other than sing. I had to stop listening to Bruce Springsteen long ago because now, whenever he comes on the radio, I picture him in the ladies' room.

As a lifelong Neil Young fan, I am disgusted with his anti American lawsuit. Trump should be able play his songs proudly whenever he wants. I have lost all respect for the man. I would suggest Trump never plays Neil Young again. MAGA.
