The way I left it yesterday was that until parents reject the “anti-racist” ideology and refuse to go along, this is not going to get better. Indeed, it will only become more entrenched, as more students graduate from this system and go on to re-infect it for generations to come. Parents have to find alternatives for their kids, and kids will just have to understand that the conventional path of “prestigious private school to prestigious Ivy League University to prestigious career” no longer holds. Most of those schools have been utterly ruined as halls of higher learning. Students are there not to form their own opinions but to be indoctrinated.

Thursday night, Tucker Carlson reported on a high school in Nevada, ironically named “Democracy Prep,” that is being sued for trying to force a biracial student to confess his “white dominance.” He refused, no doubt in part because he'd been raised by an African-American mother. The school decided he looked “too white” (!) to evade the responsibility of being white, so they flunked him for that class, and now his graduation is in doubt. The boy’s mother, Gabrielle Clark, and his attorney were on the show. His lawyer says it’s a First Amendment issue, as they violated the boy’s rights by compelling certain speech.

On Thursday, we received a letter from an educator who shall remain anonymous…

Dear Gov. Huckabee:

I am a faculty member at a Christian university in Texas (although I must make it clear that I am advocating as a private citizen and not on behalf of any university), and I am concerned about freedom of speech issues on campus.

One of the scholars I have been sharing with colleagues is Dr. Jonathan Haidt --- who recently wrote THE CODDLING OF THE AMERICAN MIND and is giving the iterations of the following lecture to donors:

"Two incompatible sacred values in American universities” --- Jon Haidt, Hayek Lecture Series at Duke

THE CODDLING OF THE AMERICAN MIND

Four concrete steps that can be taken:

1. Advocate that universities add “Viewpoint Diversity” to the mission statements to Offices of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity.

2. Advocate that the term “Pluralism” be added to Diversity statements as both are needed.

3. Advocate for the adoption of a freedom of speech statement similar to the Chicago statement.

4. Advocate that college students should be challenged in classes with controversial ideas and content, even if it makes them feel uncomfortable. See video clip by Van Jones.

I hope you will join me in advocating for viewpoint diversity and freedom of speech on campuses and review the information provided.

Best regards!

.............

Many thanks to this educator for writing. This is what we need, concrete steps for reversing course. I see that he has even included some video from Van Jones. There are others on the left who have come around as well; Bill Maher and Naomi Wolf come to mind.

Check out THE CODDLING OF THE AMERICAN MIND; it deals with just what those wealthy parents were talking about, the anxiety and depression their kids are exhibiting. Jonathan Haidt has other timely books and lectures as well, available at his website.

It’s hard to believe that back in the 1950s, it was folks on the left –- back when they were called “liberals” and were more like today’s moderates –- who advocated for freedom of speech, while Sen. Joe McCarthy on the right was the one blacklisting people. Now it’s the other way around. George Carlin would be shocked to see what has happened to the language, especially on college campuses. On the other hand, he would never be allowed on a college campus. He would say things that made people “uncomfortable.”

While diversity of color, gender and ethnicity is an obsession on college campuses today, diversity of opinion is considered threatening and is forbidden. (So much for inclusiveness.) “Viewpoint diversity” needs to be written into the schools’ mission statements, policies, etc. It must be made OFFICIAL. And, speaking more broadly, as long as the Constitution is going to enumerate various “protected” groups, “viewpoint” needs to be added to the list. No discrimination against political or ideological groups as long as they are peaceful.

But, again, none of this will happen unless the “elite” community rebels against cancel culture. They’ve been intimidated into silence, mostly because they’re terrified of being branded racists. But if they grow some spine and pull their kids out of those schools, things will change. Tuition at the schools is, unbelievably, $40-50,000 a year. These parents can afford a full-time tutor for home schooling and give their kids a fabulous education, much better than what they’d receive at that fancy-pants private school. And for parents and their kids who are called racists for doing this, here's a little script for them to use in reply, if they would like to:

Dear faculty and administrators of __________:

Our children will no longer be attending your school. I will no longer allow them to be be subjected to the substandard education they have been receiving from you, which includes “guilting” them for the color of the skin with which they were born.

We and our children are not racists. You need to take a good, hard look in the mirror and realize that your brains have been been taken over by a twisted ideology that has turned YOU into a racist. The books WHITE FRAGILITY and HOW TO BE AN ANTI-RACIST are like a virus infecting society.

We reject “anti-racism” totally, for being, in itself, utterly racist. Our children are not responsible for racist ideas that were around before they were born. Like a cult, you’ve been trying to shame them into believing they are. Shame on YOU.

Denying that one is a racist does not make one a racist; what a twisted way of thinking. So you can have it; we are not coming back. We truly are “woke” --- awakened to what is happening in schools such as yours, and we refuse to be a part of it.

Sincerely,

________________

I think this might work for parents who have had enough. If a few of them will say some version of this, take their kids and walk out the door, others would follow. It’s time to be like Gabrielle Clark, and stand up for our children.
