The “Do Something” Movement

There’s currently a movement underway to demand that the government “do something” to stop mass shootings. I don’t know of anyone other than homicidal maniacs who doesn’t want mass shootings to stop, but whenever I see the phrase or hashtag, “Do something,” I get the nagging feeling that they’re leaving off the rest of that thought: “Do something, even if it’s wrong!”

If you don’t want to do something that’s wrong – something that erodes the safety and Constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens while having little to no impact on crime or mass shootings – you are accused of “loving guns,” being on the payroll of the NRA or not caring about the lives of children. It’s surreal to hear liberals who want to abort babies up until the moment of birth accuse pro-life gun owners of not caring about the lives of children.

In reality, regardless of where you stand on gun rights, every decent human being is horrified by school shootings and desperately wants to end them. The question is what to do that will actually be effective. Using them as an excuse to push an existing gun control agenda is not only cynical and exploitative, it wouldn’t work. That’s not just a personal opinion; it’s borne out by experience and research.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/gun-control-measures-lack-empirical-evidence-experts

When President Biden claims that the ‘90s “assault weapons” ban worked and needs to be brought back, he doesn’t explain why Congress allowed it to expire. That’s because it didn’t work. It made no noticeable difference in the number of murders, very few of which are committed with “assault rifles.”

So if we all agree that we want to end these horrific school shootings, why can’t we agree to do the one thing that’s objectively been proven to work: hardening security at schools? There’s sadly no shortage of terrorists who’d like to attack schools in Israel, and there are plenty of guns in that nation, yet school shootings are virtually unheard of. Here’s why:

https://www.lifezette.com/2022/05/israel-leads-the-way-in-school-security/

That’s how Israel protects students, and it works. I don’t see why anyone who wants to protect our kids would refuse to do something that’s actually proven to work. But if you oppose measures like this in favor of a political agenda that’s been proven not to work, then please stop claiming you’re the only people who care about children’s lives. You’re not a safety activist, you’re a political activist.

As for stopping criminals from killing people, we’ve already seen that blue states and cities with the strictest gun laws have by far the highest violent crime and murder rates. As many victims of crime in these places (or their survivors) have made clear, the problem isn’t that law-abiding people are able to buy guns to protect themselves, the problem is that they’re forced to because the legal system is not protecting them. The leftists in government cut police budgets while “progressive” DA’s empty the jails and return felons to the streets over and over to victimize the public again and again. Here’s just the latest of many examples I could name.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/virginia-judge-boots-liberal-da-off-criminal-case-misleading-public-gop-ag-prepared-take-over#spark_wn=1

If you want to stop all the shootings, then quit trying to take guns away from law-abiding people who are just trying to protect their families and start putting criminals in jail, so they don’t have the opportunity to go out and shoot even more people than they already have.

Related: I mentioned this before, but here’s more information and it bears repeating to keep other states from doing something so stupid. In 2020, Oregon voters overwhelmingly passed a measure to decriminalize possession of small amounts of hard drugs such as heroin, meth, fentanyl and cocaine. The idea was to connect drug abusers with help instead of threatening them with jail.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/portland-drug-decriminalization-effort-tragedy

The results are in, and they are grimly predictable: hardly anyone called the help hotline, but in 2021, drug deaths leaped 41% to an all-time high. There’s also been a rise in theft and violent crime as drug users have turned to crime to feed their addictions. Portland set a record for murders in 2021, with authorities saying the killing is partly fueled by drug turf wars.

Moral: You can feel sorry for drug addicts, but that doesn’t mean you should vote like you’re on mind-altering drugs yourself.

Today’s Must Read

A lot of people are talking about the terrorist threats being made by radical abortion advocates against pro-life pregnancy centers. But Chris Queen at PJ Media did something nobody else has by talking to the people who run some of these centers to ask what they think about the threats, what they’re doing about them, and whether they're feeling intimidated into backing away from their mission.

https://pjmedia.com/columns/chris-queen/2022/06/17/pregnancy-centers-across-the-nation-press-on-in-the-face-of-violent-threats-n1606147

What they had to say should be read by everyone, especially those who think their threats can scare people of faith. They’re taking the threats seriously, but not backing down. Their words are so inspiring, you might be moved to donate to their cause. And if you didn’t know what these centers actually do (the people attacking them plainly don’t), this article is an eye-opener. Here’s a brief quote from one:

“’Seventy-five percent of our clients need help with food, formula, diapers, and education resources rather than abortion,’ she told me. ‘There’s no shame in that; half the women who work here have been in that situation.’ She shared with me that, right before the baby formula shortage, the center received the largest donation of formula It had ever seen, and she related the story of the donation of a stroller with which they were able to bless a young, growing family.”

That’s right, you self-righteous thugs, that’s what you’re attacking when you try to shut down these centers: volunteers who are trying to do God’s work by not only saving babies, but also by helping get food, diapers, baby formula and other badly-needed aid to poor families. Your actions remind me of Eddie Murphy’s comment about why anyone would shoot the Pope: “Well, I really wanted to go to Hell, and I didn’t want to have to stand in no line.”

We need more of this

Some woke employees of Elon Musk’s company SpaceX put out an open letter criticizing their boss, slamming his Twitter comments as embarrassing and not reflective of their values, and demanding that the company “swiftly and explicitly separate itself from Elon’s personal brand.”

And the employees who circulated that have been terminated.

https://www.westernjournal.com/five-spacex-employees-publicly-complained-ceo-elon-musk-just-paid-price/

Naturally, leftists are accusing Musk of hypocrisy for defending free speech on Twitter but firing them. However, there is a difference between feeling free to express your political beliefs on Twitter and bad-mouthing your own boss inside the company while making demands about how the business should be run. Also, the company’s president and COO said an investigation found that “the letter, solicitations and general process made employees feel uncomfortable, intimidated and bullied, and/or angry because the letter pressured them to sign onto something that did not reflect their views. We have too much critical work to accomplish and no need for this kind of overreaching activism.”

Wait, so you mean that when leftist workers start bullying their co-workers into towing their line and making demands about how the company should be run, you can just fire them and replace them? Too bad nobody told Disney that; it could have saved them billions in lost revenue.

Manchin earns praise from some Democrats

When Sen. Joe Manchin personally killed Biden’s spendapalooza “Build Back Better” bill, he was fire-blasted by liberal media figures. Now, some of them have belatedly realized how much the previous profligate spending fueled inflation and are praising Manchin for saving the Dems from themselves and not making it worse.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/inflation-msnbc-host-ex-obama-adviser-praise-joe-manchin-for-killing-biden-e2-80-99s-build-back-better-plan/ar-AAYpFV8

But it looks as if Manchin (who, never forget, is still a Democrat) is willing to help his Party try to hurry and pass something by September to please their base before the disastrous midterm elections. He’s reportedly negotiating with Chuck Schumer on a scaled-down version of the bill called “Build Back Better Late Than Never” (the name is disinformation; “Never” would be better.) Details are at the link, but it’s largely the typical Democratic stuff: climate change, taxing the rich, etc.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/rick-moran/2022/06/17/very-quietly-manchin-and-schumer-are-teeing-up-another-build-back-better-bill-n1606113

Schumer also hopes to pass the “bipartisan gun safety package” this summer by using “budget reconciliation” to pass it with just 51 votes and avoid a filibuster. Although I doubt that he could explain what gun control has to do with the federal budget even if you held him at gunpoint. “Budget reconciliation” has become utterly meaningless; it’s now just code for “anything Democrats want to pass and can’t get 60 votes for.”

I have no illusions that either of these bills will improve anything, but let’s hope they won’t make things too much worse. If nothing else, passing even a scaled-down version of the BBB bill with Manchin’s help will serve as a wake-up call to voters that they can’t depend on even the most conservative, independent Democrats to hold the line against their own party. If you want sanity restored, you need to give large majorities of both Houses back to the GOP.

Worth sharing

Thursday in Easton, Massachusetts, a driver crashed his car into a store that sells pro-Trump merchandise, barely missing an employee.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/video-massachusetts-crashes-trump-store

Police said the driver was hospitalized and charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle and "malicious destruction of property," and “additional charges may follow." I’ll reserve judgement until we find out whether this was a deliberate, politically-motivated attack. If so, attempted murder should be added to those charges.

Walmart pulls MyPillow products from shelves

Walmart is the latest retailer to pull My Pillow products from its stores. Company owner Mike Lindell said they were far and away his biggest distributor, and MyPillow products are some of the most successful Walmart has ever carried. He blasted the move as cowardly, disgusting and inexcusable, and said it will mean a $10 million hit directly to his employees, who are all American workers in Minnesota, while Walmart retains over 10,000 vendors from China.

https://nypost.com/2022/06/17/mike-lindell-lashes-out-at-walmart-for-canceling-him-by-shelving-mypillow-products/

Lindell accused Walmart of joining other retailers in “canceling” his company as retribution for his political views and his questioning of the 2020 election. Walmart said the products will remain available through their website, and claimed they were being dropped because online bad reviews show they don’t meet their standards. Lindell replied that those are bots and political attacks, and that his products have very high ratings from people who actually own them

(One of my writers asked to interject that he and his wife bought the Giza Dream Sheets last year, they’re the best sheets they’ve ever owned, and they really have gotten softer with washing and not worn out. So he tends to side with the "vindictive liberals and bots" theory. He also points to all the one-star reviews on Amazon of conservative books that the reviewers obviously haven’t even read.

I’ve never been a fan of product boycotts over political differences precisely because they usually harm innocent workers. But if you don’t want to buy a product because you disagree with the company owner’s outspoken political views, this is America, so you certainly have that right. However, public companies should be apolitical and focus on pleasing customers and maximizing shareholder profits. When they punish entire companies and put Americans out of work just because the owner holds the same political views as millions of their customers, it’s hard to make the argument that that is America.

We have four of Mike Lindell's MyPillows and a set of Giza dream sheets. They are the most comfortable pillows we have ever owned and the sheets are light, soft, cool, and comfortable. I wish I had some clout to tell Walmart they screwed up.

People seem concerned about INFLATION but not so much ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. How about

more news items showing how much these Illegals will add to our TAXES?

    Mike-
I just saw an awesome example of stopping school shootings; contact your local law enforcement to do their report paperwork while parked at one of the schools in their jurisdiction (in pairs, of course - one lookout). That should stop any would-be intruder, regardless of intention, from carrying out anything wrongful.

Why aren't Hate Crime charges added to the driver who crashed into the pro-Trump store in Mass. and also against Walmart for not selling items that a pro-Trump person is selling, and additionally, why aren't Hate Crime charges also added to those abortion activists who target pro-life centers? Hate is hate and not just reserved for racial issues. Actually, hate crime charges should also be brought against Pelosi, and Schumer, and all those posers of the sham Jan. 6 Kangaroo Kort Kommittee. They knowingly pulled off an election coup against legitimate voting ballots so their guy would win. It is called Fraud and Fraud is illegal in the U.S.A.

It appears they have now paid off everyone who has authority in every state, and sent killers to everyone who won't be bought off. What can we do? Feels like the handcuffs are on and the brains are being shut down in every way possible - directly and indirectly.

I ordered those Giza sheets and I was not pleased at all. I donated them to charity. It wore me out to make the bed as they were so heavy. They wrinkled something terrible.

    Mike
The Second Amendment is the settled law of the land and it cannot be abrogated by any law. If people want to modify it and it certainly can be just as the voter rights amendment was modified to include blacks and women they have to pass another constitutional Amendment and have it ratified two-thirds of the States.
