We’re mad as heck and we aren’t gonna take it anymore: The newspaper chain Gannett may have finally gotten “woke” in a good way, as in “Woke up to reality and realized they’d go out of business if they didn’t stop annoying readers with leftist lectures.”

https://redstate.com/bobhoge/2022/06/10/parent-co-gannett-tells-usa-today-enough-with-the-opinions-already-n577264

The Daily Mail reports that a committee of editors presented a report to Gannett in April, warning them that people are turning away from USA Today and other Gannett-owned papers because they’re fed up with the leftist bias, both in editorials and supposed “news” stories. The editors said that not only are these leftist editorials among the least-read content, but were frequently cited as reasons for canceling subscriptions.

They noted that the public’s trust in the news media had plummeted in recent years due to leftwing bias, and that “readers don’t want us to tell them what to think. They don’t believe we have the expertise to tell anyone what to think on most issues.” Sounds like the readers are definitely smarter than the writers in that regard. They also suggested that the papers hire writers who aren’t leftwing activists. Ironically, that probably means hiring journalists who didn’t attend “journalism” school.

In response, Gannett is scaling back the number of editorials and ending political endorsements except in local races. This reminds me of the old joke about what you call it when a thousand lawyers are dropped into shark-infested waters: “A good start.” Both CNN and Gannett are finally scaling back the leftist activism as a survival measure, but there’s still so much of it infesting “journalism” that the people writing it may not even realize they’re doing it. Maybe they just assume that since everyone they know is a Republican-hating leftist, they spew that attitude without even thinking about it.

The entertainment media echo chambers are particularly bad about this. One of my writers who handles pop culture stories canceled his subscription to weekly Variety (for which he was paying a rock bottom professional rate of something like a dollar a year) because the leftist bias was so thick that even at two cents an issue, it wasn’t worth it. He was also a longtime subscriber to Entertainment Weekly, where you would find Obama cheerleading or Bush and Trump bashing in everything from record reviews to movie previews. He didn’t have to cancel that because they recently stopped publishing it.

    Mr. Huckabee,

A few months back I asked myself how the news media was making ends meet when they seem to be so out of touch with the majority of viewers. Where's the money coming from that keeps them alive? Now I'm not a brainiac nor am I a genius with a computer, but I set out to see who owned these companies. Well, most of the information kind of trailed off into oblivion, and I almost gave up. I kept looking and one name popped up in the shadows of every major news network, ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN—Disney. The Disney family are major investors in all of the aforementioned network news organizations according to what I was able to find by simple searches on the internet.

As I said, I'm no expert, and I did find the information on the Internet, so accept it with that risk. Maybe you know some people who could do a better job, at least a more trustworthy job of determining where these people’s money comes from? I say this because I can’t see how they can stay in business when their viewership has dwindled so much.

    Just asking.

    James

The left wing bias is everywhere. I DVR the CBS Sunday Morning News but I am getting tired of its left wing bias, and I told myself they have two strikes now and one more and I will not DVR it anymore, and will stop watching the program. I noticed that this Tuesday is Flag day but they didn't even recognize it on their calendar. The show seems to take any opportunity they can to bash Trump, and I'm tired of it. The show's list of reasons for $5.00 gas prices in 20 states: inflation, the war in Ukraine, absence of Russian oil on world markets, the lack of US refinery capacity, and a surge in demand as COVID travel restrictions are lifted. Really?? Its Biden's policies to undercut US Energy that have taken away our energy independence that have driven up gas prices such as: Killed the Keystone Pipeline on his 1st day in office, blocking other pipelines including Enbridge Line 5, 80% reduction in federal lands available for drilling, pushing banks, Wall Street to debank, defund fossil fuels, cancelled oil and gas drilling leases in Alaska, Gulf of Mexico, slows approvals for oil and gas projects, raises royalty rates, nixes subsidies, "excess profits tax, COVID relief funds to environmental groups to sue oil and gas, SEC forcing companies to disclose their climate risks. I used to read the USA Today everyday when I was working but since I have retired (end of 2017) I have given up on all newspapers as they are so leftwing they are only good for birdcage liners, not to mention they are exorbitantly expensive!

I hope you are right, Gannett was always a " you can trust them" paper owner.. .Then it went to hell in a basket as far as I'm concerned. I look on line for the North Jersey News OBITS ..

My husband cancelled our subscription almost 2 years ago.
Truth be told I do miss that supermarket flyer on Sundays.
