Attention, everyone! Attention! Please mark this down for future reference! Pop star Demi Lovato announced on a podcast that she is switching her pronouns back to “she/her” from “they/them.”
She/They said, "Last year, my energy was balanced in my masculine and feminine energy," so she changed her pronouns to “they/them.” NBC reports that Lovato’s latest pronouns are more traditional, but not without a journey that brought her to a genuine place. She said, "I'm such a fluid person when it comes to my gender, my sexuality, my music, my creativity." Apparently, her fluid has now flowed in a feminine direction, and she is a she again.
The most amazing part of this story: Someone actually listened to this!
And in news that I can’t help thinking must be related somehow, Warner Brothers will eat an investment of up to $100 million by burying their upcoming “Batgirl” movie like toxic waste rather than allowing it be seen anywhere, even on a streaming service. Rumor is that it was so “woke,” they feared releasing it would have infuriated fans and killed the Batman franchise for a generation. Can you imagine how bad this must be? Even the George Clooney "Batman" movie got released!
While I’m happy to hear that Hollywood is finally learning that filling movies with woke political and social messages is the kiss of box office death, I am disappointed that now, we will never find out what Batgirl’s pronouns are.
Sinema will support Democrats' "Inflation Reduction Bill"
To nobody’s surprise, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema announced that she will support the Democrats’ “Inflation Reduction Bill” (there will be a slight pause until you stop laughing), with some changes. Interestingly, they are not changes to the irresponsible spending, the weaponizing of the IRS or the taxes on lower and middle-income Americans. No, she wanted the carried interest tax break, which benefits hedge funds and other wealthy investment managers, removed from the bill.
So it looks as if the Democrats will stick Americans with one last big-spending, government-bloating, tax-hiking bill before (we all hope and pray) the voters throw them out on their ears in November. But the man most responsible, West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, who had blocked this bill in its earlier, even worse “Build Back Better” form only to cave at the last minute, may be starting to regret how cheaply he sold out.
In exchange for a vague promise of a pipeline in West Virginia (and we know how likely Biden is to allow a pipeline to be built), Manchin poured fossil fuel all over his credibility and set it ablaze. The blowback he’s getting from his constituents is reaching hurricane force.
His communications staff is so desperate to calm the fury over Manchin backing this lipstick-covered pig of a bill that they are reportedly beseeching reporters to stop describing it as a “slimmed-down version of ‘Build Back Better,’” even though it is. (And only is Washington is a bill that spends $749 billion considered “slimmed down.”) This is what happens when you sell out to the left: you soon find yourself having to censor people and redefine words to prevent anybody from speaking the truth.
But as I keep reminding Sen. Manchin: you haven’t voted yet, and it’s not too late to say you were misled about the contents of this bill and have changed your mind about supporting it. That might not win back the love of West Virginia voters, but admitting you made a mistake and backing down is a lot more respectable than knowing you’re about to make a big mistake and going through with it anyway.
PS to Sen. Manchin: You don’t want to be like this. Your Democrat colleague Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware was asked on CNN to react to concerns that this bill’s corporate minimum tax could hurt US manufacturing. His response was that the tax “is something that our caucus has come together behind” and “The most important thing is that we get this bill passed.”
Funny, I would think that the most important thing is that any bill does more good than harm. And for the record, I don’t think it’s a huge accomplishment to get the Democratic caucus to come together behind more taxing and spending.
The Republican National Committee has chosen Milwaukee as the site for the 2024 GOP National Convention.
Why would the Republicans pick a city known to trivia buffs for electing socialist mayors instead of a city in a red state? Because Wisconsin is a purple state, and they want to showcase the party to the kind of new GOP voters they’re trying to attract. More at the link.
A Russian judge sentenced WNBA player Brittney Griner to nine years in prison for cannabis oil possession. And it won’t be the kind of cushy prison wealthy celebrities in America get. Griner is being sent to a “collective labor colony,” where the guards have free rein over prisoners, conditions are deplorable, and the prisoners are expected to do labor every day. If they do it well, they’re forced to do more, and if they don’t, they’re punished.
I won’t go into more detail than that here, but if you want to know more of the grim facts, this link will fill you in.
It also discusses the difficulties for the Biden Administration in trying to get her back (especially after Biden called Putin a murderous war criminal.) They don’t want to establish a precedent that we’ll release major arms dealers in prisoner exchanges, which just encourages the arrest of any American abroad to use as a bargaining chip. Also, despite claims that the sentence is outrageously harsh, Biden has a long history of sponsoring legislation that greatly increased penalties for drug possession, including (ironically) crack.
Kamala Harris’ claim that Griner is being “wrongfully detained” is also sparking charges of hypocrisy. During her days as California Attorney General, Harris opposed legalization of pot, aggressively prosecuted thousands of people for possession, didn't seem to care if any of them were later found to be innocent, and as author Tim Young tweeted, nine years sounds like most of the sentences she got people for the same thing.
One could also argue that Griner, who pleaded guilty, was lucky not to be in certain other nations where drug possession carries the death penalty.
I pray that both she and Marine veteran Paul Whelan, who is also being held in Russia, can be brought back to the US quickly and safely without having to capitulate to absurd Russian demands. I also hope that Ms Griner returns with more respect for America and a greater understanding of why so many people risk their lives to come to this land that she thinks is so oppressive, she refuses to stand during its National Anthem. Maybe it will even occur to her that she never considered she’d be arrested and imprisoned for nine years for carrying cannabis oil because she forgot she wasn’t in America.
I hope this is also a lesson to anyone who travels abroad to check the local laws carefully and follow them to the letter, because you don’t enjoy the rights anywhere else that you do here.
Or better yet, “See America first!”
A new peer-reviewed study by Japanese researchers in the journal Scientific Reports found that closing down restaurants, bars and other businesses was not effective at stopping the spread of COVID-19.
They followed a large pool of subjects over two years of lockdowns in Japan and found no correlation between forced business closures and a reduction of symptoms among the public – except, oddly, there was less coughing among college graduates. I would have been happy to provide them with cough drops in exchange for not destroying the global economy.
Considering the huge detrimental side effects (if I’m allowed to mention side effects), such as economic devastation, unemployment, suicide, drug abuse and domestic violence, this is more evidence that the government’s “solution” to COVID caused more problems than it solved.
Of course, some “experts” still think the problem was that we should’ve done more blood-letting on the anemia patient…
…and refusing to learn from research and experience, they just keep making the same arrogant mistakes over and over, while assuring us that they ARE “Science” and cannot be questioned. Which proves they don’t know science, because the scientific method requires constant questioning.
And boy, do I have a LOT of questions about how they’re handling (or mishandling) monkeypox, which appears to be the latest disease that’s both a dire health emergency but also nothing to worry about if you’re doing something liberals approve of. Just as your grandparents had to die in lonely isolation but BLM protesters could gather by the thousands and the COVID virus wouldn’t infect them, so the rest of us have to be terrified of catching monkeypox, unless we want to attend a gay orgy fest in San Francisco, and then it’s no big whoop.

NYC Mayor complains
New York City Mayor Eric Adams blasted the Governors of Texas and Arizona as “cowards” for sending illegal immigrants to New York City instead of keeping them where they would have to deal with all the problems caused by President Biden’s open border. Problem: they haven’t been sending anyone to New York. They’ve been busing them to DC. Biden has been flying illegal immigrants into New York under cover of darkness.
But to quote Al Gore, if Adams is going to get snippy about it, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will play hardball. The first busload of illegal immigrants from Texas just arrived at NYC’s Port Authority Bus Station.
Abbott said, "In addition to Washington, D.C., New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city. I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief."
Thanks to the Governors of Texas and Arizona, the virtue-signaling, pro-illegal immigrant leaders of Northern blue “sanctuary cities” are being forced to put their money where their mouths are, and the taste is bitter, indeed.
TX Politics update
Speaking of Texas politics, “Beto” O’Rourke is thankfully trailing Abbott in polls for the Governor’s office, and he’s apparently decided that the key to boosting his campaign is to do what Terry MacAuliffe did that killed his campaign in Virginia: take the side of America-hating Critical Race Theory pushers over parents in public schools.
“Beto” claimed he’d never even heard of CRT until a year ago, and declared, “We don’t need to tell [a teacher] what version of history she is allowed to teach in a classroom.” First of all, way to go assuming the hypothetical teacher’s gender! Secondly, yes, the government does tell teachers what version of history to teach. Teachers don’t get to teach their personal version of history. That’s why Texas has things like the State Board of Education, whose duties include “Reviewing and adopting instructional materials.”
You’d think someone who wants to be Governor would know that. But then, you’d also think someone who wants to be Governor would know enough not to put his shoes on tables that people eat off of.
