“Self-obsessed rich guys.”

That’s how the Kamala Harris campaign dismissed Monday’s history-making chat on X between President Trump and Elon Musk.  But once you’ve heard it, you’ll understand why the Democrats didn’t want you to.  It’s nice to know that, at least according to Musk, over a billion people have already watched it on the X platform.  Perhaps the most refreshing thing about both these guys is that neither cares about conforming to any political narrative.

“I’ve not been very political before,”  Elon said.  “...They try to paint me as like a far-right guy, which is absurd, because I like making electric vehicles...I supported Obama.  I stood in line for six hours to shake Obama’s hand...historically a moderate Democrat.  But now I feel like we’re really at a critical juncture for the country...To people out there who are in the moderate camp, [I want] to say I think you should support Donald Trump for President.”

Get the smelling salts!  Here we have the musings of two “self-obsessed rich guys” --- actually two successful, powerful problem-solvers, neither of them a “far-right guy” --- talking about how to get us on a better track.  Trump has stood up to unconscionable abuses of power and even a would-be assassin’s bullet.  Musk has sent rockets into space and is researching such innovations as neural implants to make it possible for paralyzed people to move.

But, as Greg Gutfeld noted Tuesday on THE FIVE, there’s been “this weird decline in the appreciation of achievement.”  Those on the left are apparently ready to anoint Kamala Harris despite her having no achievements at all.  Is “joy” enough?  Really?  Even if that joy has been manufactured by joyless campaign propagandists?

Since when has Kamala Harris solved one problem, or even improved something?  She was handed responsibilities in specific areas and, as far as anyone can see, did nothing.  She apparently just did what a lot of people in mid-level corporate jobs do, going through the motions of attending meetings and writing memos, never really accomplishing anything.  And then she failed up.

She won’t dare go on with Musk for an interview, but she took the opportunity to fundraise off the Trump interview, claiming Musk and Trump were “trying to control democracy.” I’d say that if wanted to “control democracy,” you’d throw out millions of votes and let rich party insiders pick the nominee. And a much better way to defend democracy would be by doing an interview.  The catch:  there wouldn’t be a teleprompter.

(FYI: As of Wednesday, it’s been 24 days since Kamala stole the nomination and has yet to give a press conference.)

One of the best discussions regarding the larger media’s reaction to this interview --- their insistence on warning us of “misinformation” from Trump and Elon when we’re much more likely to hear it from THEIR “NEWS” REPORTS --- was hosted by Trace Gallagher of FOX NEWS AT NIGHT.  That show hasn’t yet been posted at the time of this writing, but here’s a brief sample…

The United Auto Workers Union has gone farther, filing federal labor charges against both men for what they claim was an attempt to threaten and intimidate workers during their talk.  The two were joshing around about firing workers who strike.  Of course, to actually fire striking workers would be against the law, so they wouldn’t really be doing it.  Apparently, shooting the breeze about it is illegal, too.

At least it is when Trump does it.  The UAW has endorsed Kamala Harris for President (despite polls showing a large percentage of their working members prefer Trump.)

Now for the global perspective...

During his Tuesday podcast, Dan Bongino had a question for Mike Benz: “Is NATO using the EU and this DSA [their “Digital Services Act”] to stop populist movements like Donald Trump, who are starting to question these international relationships [like NATO]?  Are the EU people --- who are supposed to be our friends --- actually our enemies, turning into digital tyrants, coming after us, Elon and others?”

The Digital Services Act is supposed to promote “safety, trust and fairness in the digital environment.”  Who could be against that?

https://www.europarl.europa.eu/RegData/etudes/BRIE/2021/689357/EPRS_BRI(2021)689357_EN.pdf

But Benz, director of Foundation for Freedom Online and perhaps our #1 go-to source for all things Deep-State and censorious, calls the European Union’s Digital Services Act the “NATO Censorship Law.”  He’s dubbed it “the commercial arm of NATO,” which wants to stop the rise of populist parties, not just in the United States but in all NATO countries.  They’re apparently taking on populists on both the right and the left, whoever on either side might be less than wholehearted in their support and/or funding of NATO.  But since NATO is funded so largely by the U.S., Trump is seen as the biggest challenge to their status quo, and they appear to be out to get him in this election.

So before Musk and Trump did their interview, the EU’s digital enforcer (!) for the Digital Services Act, Thierry Breton, had the nerve to send Musk a threatening letter warning him of the “risk of amplification of potentially harmful content in connection with events with major audiences around the world…”  Musk responded simply, as he often does, with a meme that meant “(bleep) off.”

Here’s a must-read update.  Turns out, Breton had taken it upon himself to write that letter to Musk; he was supposed to coordinate with EU commissioners.

As we discussed yesterday, Europe has long had “hate speech” laws --- remember Rowan Atkinson’s eloquent skewering of those --- but the Digital Services Act goes farther to impose a new standard, addressing so-called (here comes that word again) “disinformation.”

“It’s creating a new industry for disinformation compliance,” Benz says.  The threat is real; it’s impossible to be a multinational tech platform without having access to the European market, as the EU, with a total of 550 million people, is even bigger than the American market.  (Surprise!)

So as we enter the final months (weeks) of the election, there’s no telling what real information is going to be suppressed under the label of disinformation --- dangerous because it supports the “wrong” opinion or candidate, in this case Trump --- and what fake news damaging to Trump and other populist candidates is going to be promoted.

Bongino discussed a story from THE GUARDIAN, a left-wing British media outlet, that claimed “far-right disorder [recent unrest] had clear Russian involvement,” according to an “ex-MI6 spy.”  And you’ll never guess who this ex-MI6 spy is.  We’re not kidding:  it’s Christopher Steele!  He’s baaa-aaack.

The initial protest by a few hundred right-wing agitators was triggered by the knifing deaths of three young girls in Northwest England, reportedly by as “Islamist immigrant,” though REUTERS says reports of his identity were false.  This was followed by a wave of thousands of counter-protesters, “a diverse collection of Muslims, anti-racist and anti-fascist groups, trade unions, left-wing organizations, and locals appalled at the riots that had hit the country,” reacting to online posts claiming the far-right would be targeting “a list of immigration centers, migrant support centres and specialist law firms.”

So, what brought this mass of leftist counter-protesters out?  The right-wing protesters had pelted mosques with rocks, “clashed with police and smashed windows of hotels housing asylum-seekers from Africa, Asia and the Middle East.”  This apparently is what Steele said the Russians were behind and would be assembling again.  But the right-wing targeting of immigration centers, etc., has not materialized, at least so far; those Ruskies must be slacking off.

As REUTERS reports, “Migration to Britain was a major factor in its 2016 vote to leave the European Union and it was a battlefield during last month’s election, with Nigel Farage’s Reform Party winning around 4 million votes on calls for tighter border controls.”

https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/british-police-brace-anti-muslim-riots-counter-protests-2024-08-07/

Anyway, the unrest was about immigration.  Of course, Trump gets lumped in with the far-right --- people like those racist, rock-throwing hooligans --- simply because he wants to secure our own border.  Fake news purveyor Philip Bump at the WASHINGTON POST wrote an article headlined “Musk’s chat with Trump was a peek inside the right-wing bubble.”

When you have time, Bongino’s Tuesday podcast shouldn’t be missed.  There’s more Mike Benz, who definitely should be working in a Trump White House.  (Chief of Staff, maybe?  He should be the one vetting everyone.)

RELATED:  According to Guy Benson at TOWNHALL, Harris’ current uptick in the polls is partly due to her “unprecedented media propaganda, as well as her team’s calculated decision to bubble-wrap her appearances and control her utterances to an extraordinary degree.”  Her campaign hired mastermind David Plouffe, who’s best known for magically transforming brittle politician Barack Obama into “The Lightbringer,” “Mr. Hope-and-Change.”  It seems he’s responsible for Cacklin’ Kamala’s new “joy” theme.  If you feel like grabbing the Pepto-Bismol when you hear how “joyful” she is, blame him.

Stephen Green at PJ MEDIA says Trump can counter this by doing exactly what he did in the Musk interview:  just being his candid self and focusing on issues.  Kamala can’t compete in that realm.

MORE ON MEDIA CENSORSHIP:  Dennis Quaid appeared with Trace Gallagher Tuesday night to talk about Facebook censoring ads for his new movie REAGAN.  Facebook, Quaid said, even shut down the interview he’d previously recorded with Gallagher at the Reagan Library.  The producers of the film are accusing Mark Zuckerberg and parent company Meta of interfering with efforts to publicize the film.

Facebook is now calling this a “mistake” by their automated software, making this yet another of those “mistakes” that never seem to penalize the left, only the right.

As Quaid told NEWSWEEK, “Reagan said that the freedoms we take for granted can be lost in a generation.  Censorship like this, coupled with our silent assent, is a cautionary indication that we could be in danger of losing those freedoms.”

Quaid was more succinct in last night’s interview with Gallagher.  “Lately,” he said, “things have been kind of kooky in this country.”

Perhaps you saw Quaid’s original interview with Gallagher about the movie, which ran July 31.  If not, here it is…

And if you didn’t see Quaid, along with fellow “Reagan” stars Jon Voight, Penelope Ann Miller and Jennifer O’Neill, on last weekend’s episode of “Huckabee” on TBN, then here it is, and it’s a must-see! And with our show, that means you’ll actually be allowed to see it.
