Oh, no --- The never-ending confirmation process

When it comes to the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, it’s just one thing after another.

After wavering Judiciary Committee member Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake announced that he would vote in support of Kavanaugh, the drama escalated, with a group of angry women confronting him in an elevator.  Ana Maria Achila of the nonprofit Center for Popular Democracy Action told him, “What you are doing is allowing someone who actually violated a woman to sit on the Supreme Court.  That is not tolerable.”

Another woman said through her tears, “You’re telling all women they don’t matter, that they should just stay quiet because if they tell you what happened to them, you’re going to ignore them.”

When I hear statements like these, I want to cry, too, but for very different reasons.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/politics/2018/09/28/jeff-flake-confronted-protesters-elevator/v1gr7xxdeHKNXJxqVGkoHJ/story.html

Just before the committee vote was to be taken, a group of Sen. Flake’s Democratic colleages that included Delaware Sen. Chris Coons cornered him in the anteroom to beg him not to vote for Kavanaugh without an FBI investigation.  And though he ended up voting for him, it was with a huge caveat.

He said he would vote for Kavanaugh on the final floor vote only if the FBI were first brought in for a “limited” (a week at most, and just on the claim before them) FBI investigation, just to show that due diligence had been exercised.  Chairman Grassley pointed out that the committee did not have the power to order that –- they could only take it to Senate leadership to delay the full floor vote and appeal to President Trump to initiate an investigation –- but that’s where they are now.

At this writing, it looks as though the Democrats are getting themselves another delay.  God knows what they will try to do with it.  It’s bound to involve more unfounded accusations and more calls for more investigation. They are not going to let this end, even if/when Kavanaugh is confirmed.

But Sen. Lindsay Graham, who strongly supports Kavanaugh and distinguished himself in Thursday’s hearing by leveling at the Democrats a richly deserved public shaming, took this good-naturedly, at least in public, saying to reporters, “This is called democracy...this is Jeff Flake being very sincere, and what he’s trying to do –-  I respect the hell out of this –- (is) trying to get some Democrats to buy in.  Will a week matter?  And some of them said it would.  Some of ‘em want to just go on and on and on, but if he can get a few of ‘em to say a week longer would make it a better process...”

It’s not known how the FBI could add to our understanding of an allegation that’s 36 years old; probably the most they could do is gather some testimony from the others who claim not to remember even being at such a party.  (In breaking news, Mark Judge has said he will cooperate, if his testimony can be given privately rather than in an open hearing.  And Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana has announced that there is agreement now on how to proceed with a further background check.  Details to come.)  There are a few Senators still on the fence who might decide in favor of Kavanaugh if they were more confident about the process –- a process the Democrats deliberately messed with by holding Dr. Ford’s letter as a political ace in the hole when they’d had since the end of July to call for an investigation.  It’s far too late for this to be considered a good process, for anyone.

Here are a few late-breaking updates to the Kavanaugh hearing story:

It appears that Democrats on the Judiciary Committee weren’t the only ones on Capitol Hill who spent Thursday behaving like lawless, partisan juvenile delinquents.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/someone-on-capitol-hill-just-doxxed-republican-sens-mike-lee-orrin-hatch-and-lindsey-graham

Kavanaugh’s high school friend Mark Judge sent a letter to the Committee, saying he did not want to be forced to testify publicly because he is a recovering alcoholic and cancer survivor who’s struggling with anxiety and depression, and he had left town to escape the media hounding him.  But he declared under penalty of felony that he did not remember the events described by Dr. Ford and never saw Kavanaugh act in the way she described.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/09/28/mark-judge-kavanaughs-friend-responds-to-fords-testimony-prior-to-key-vote.html

Also, the American Bar Association called for another last-minute delay in the vote, to allow for an FBI investigation of Ford’s claims “because of the ABA’s respect for the rule of law and due process under law.”  Critics pointed out that the ABA already gave Kavanaugh their highest rating as a judge and questioned whether this delay was politically-motivated, since the ABA is notoriously liberal, and Democrats are desperate to delay the vote until after the election.  They noted that Ford’s testimony provided no new details and that an organization of attorneys should know that the FBI can’t investigate a local crime, and certainly not one that’s 36 years old, where the accuser can’t even provide a date or location, and all the alleged witnesses deny that it happened.

Finally, I included this in my comments yesterday about the Ford-Kavanaugh hearing, but I think it is definitely worth posting again, just in case you missed it (or want to bookmark it.)  Sen. Lindsay Graham, normally one of the most congenial of legislators, reads the riots act to his Democratic colleagues who, merely to advance their political agenda, exposed a professed sexual assault victim who asked to remain anonymous and tried to destroy the reputation and career of a highly-respected judge with no evidence while denying him due process rights. The only thing missing from this was for him to look straight into the eyes of Booker, Hirono, Feinstein, Harris, Durbin, Coons and the rest and ask, “At long last, have you no decency?”

President Reagan's Letter

After the intense ugliness of yesterday’s Senate hearing, I feel as if we could all use something good and clean to wash the filth out of our eyes.  So here’s an article to remind us of what Christianity and decency look like at the highest levels of government.  It involves a recently discovered letter, handwritten in 1982 by President Ronald Reagan and sent to his dying atheist father-in-law.

Reagan was concerned about his soul, and tried to explain in a logical way his in-law could accept why he believed in the Divinity of Christ. Imagine someone in politics who not only had such lofty thoughts and knowledge, but also the decency to take time out from the highest-pressure job in the word to reach out and express them to someone he cared about who strongly disagreed with him.  Those were different times.  Let’s pray we can bring them back.

What got into the water in Sacramento?!?

I don’t know what got into the water in Sacramento, but California Gov. Jerry Brown actually vetoed a slew of wacky leftist bills that would likely be rubber-stamped if Gavin Newsom gets elected to follow him.  Brown blocked efforts by the La-La-Legislature to bar ICE from arresting criminal illegal immigrants inside courthouses, to let illegal immigrants serve on state and local governing boards, to make it harder for law-abiding citizens to obtain gun permits, to establish a board to monitor so-called “fake news” in obvious violation of the First Amendment, and even to move the start time of junior highs and high schools later to 8:30 a.m. to “combat sleep deprivation.”

Judging from the type of bills that are passed by the people they elect, it’s obvious that Californians are already getting plenty of sleep during civics class.

Lesson for political candidates:

Don’t exaggerate your poor, hardscrabble background for votes.  One of your relatives might get mad and spill the beans that what you described as living in an abandoned gas station with no electricity or running water was actually more of a remodeling project.

Tim Allen returns

Tonight, Tim Allen’s sitcom “Last Man Standing” makes its return to Fox after being canceled at the height of its popularity by ABC; some say because it included a conservative point of view, although ABC denied that.  At the link, some more info and some refreshing comments from Allen about how it’s the job of entertainers to entertain, and who cares what they think about politics?  My prediction: far more people will tune in to see the new season of “LMS” than will buy Barbra Streisand’s new song attacking President Trump.

I watch the whole hearings, yesterday, on Judge Kavanaugh. I cried with him. I can not understand what has happened to people that would try to destroy a good, decent, kind man like the Judge, just so they can resist President Trump. Do they have no shame? And my answer to that question is NO they do not have any shame. How did these people get elected to the Senate? What kind of people are electing them? I keep coming back to the old saying, " birds of a feather flock together". So the people that elect them are no better than they are. They have no shame either.

Dear Mr. Huckabee, how can we have any confidence in the FBI to investigate the charges against Judge Kavanaugh impartially? We have already learned from the Russian collusion investigation that their political biases override their impartiality.

    Fact 1: I'm 87 years old.
Fact 2: This is the first time I've been so angry at the Dems that I actually feel sick at my stomach.
Fact 3: The above includes the time when the Dems abandoned the South Vietnamese when they were attacked again. But it's close.

This senate committee needs to establish a new rule...No woman and No man shall a right to have their accusation heard in any committee meeting WITHOUT substantive factual evidence that supports her/his accusation. None shall be heard without substantive factual evidence to support their accusation.

I wish to offer another viewpoint on these Judicial Hearings for the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh.
I believe Senator Flake truly believes there are questions that need vetting. This disgusting display of partisan politics has indeed polarized many citizens of this Country--the display clearly shows that the motives behind all the rhetoric are politically based. There is NO respect for the TRUTH.
Senator Flake made a reasonable request to unite the the parties to try to close the divisiveness--A week will make no difference. This offer will quench the Democrat's incessant requests for an "investigation" to rest. When the investigation is complete, and nothing new has been revealed, the Dems will have NO leg to stand on--period. Mr. Kavanaugh will be confirmed and he will be free of this ring around his neck.
My only concern in this matter is the organization charged with investigating this is the very same one which deemed hilary clinton had no violations that were prosecutable(sp?)--the person who was partially responsible for the deaths of four American citizens stationed in Bengazi.
Somehow, the President needs to assure oversight on the FBI's findings---I would not trust them as far as I could throw them--which would be approx 11 inches, and that's if I had a running start.

I devoted ten hours yesterday watching intently the Judicial committees process. After carefully watching Dr Fords testimony I came away finding her recount quite compelling. I did find her admission of not knowing of the offer to take her testimony in California troubling. However it was all erased by Judge Kavanaughs testimony being reminded of the lack of time, place or date. Additionally the denials of named participants alleged to be present. It appeared to me the Senate vote would move forward. That’s what I get for assuming. This process seems clearly partisan in that dems will go to any extent to prevent this nomination. I don’t know what ou country has come to. It’s depressing. I’m old enough to remember a kinder gentler time where respect and civility was practiced. I fear we are losing our country. Respectfully.

I believe it might be time for someone to ask for those who have actually been or almost been sexually abused. I know most of us do not want to go public with this but I can tell you for a certainly that everyone who has ever been through this. will remember the place time of day, what is said and especially the place. that scene never escapes you. I am thankful that the Lord sent an angel both times I went through this. I never told anyone, never really wanted to talk about it, but for someone to get up and say she doesn't remember is wrong.

So, the democrats get their way--again. This is asinine. Because we all know darn well that, probably before the assignment is given to any FBI agent(s) they will come up with something else that will cow the republicans who will, just as has been going on for years, give in to the demands. Now, I do hope that there are also going to be agents who will be investigating threats that have been levied against Republicans, the professsor, the Judge and all that have been threatened. I'm betting most, if not all, will have suddenly come into increases in their bank accounts and it should be investigated where that comes from--they can't all have won the lottery.

If the vote is put off once again, shame on every Republican who sits by and lets it go. Sen. Grassly had a strong, powerful speech, but if he lets this just go on--it was all empty words.

Well the Democrats got exactly what they wanted, more delay, delay and delay. While this FBI investigation continues give it a few days there will be more allegations from someone. Democrats, the despicable political party that they are again get their way !!! Rule of law, etc. doesn't hold much water, because they are pursuing a bigger agenda. That is trying everything to keep a conservative judge appointed to the Supreme Court and ultimately going after Trump. These Democrats make me sick and sadly about the only thing we can do is go and vote on November 6th for all Republicans, but no Democrats at any level. They seem to all be the same. They fulfill the 19 or 20 liberal tactics and live up to them. Who made this terrible decision to delay it some more, beside phony and traitorous Jeff Flake ? If you give them one inch they will take a mile.

In the 1970's Richard Nixon was given the nickname Tricky Dick, now we have Tricky Dick Durbin the phony Senator from Illinois and almost everyone else in that disgusting political party. Vote for no Democrats ever again !!!!!!!

I will continue to pray that Judge Kavanaugh will actually be appointed. It will take God to orchestrate such a thing against the EVIL and anti-America agenda of the Democrats !!!!!!!!

“And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.”. Genesis 39:20

Mr. Huckabee, you know the whole of this story in Genesis, how a lying woman accused an innocent man of attempted rape. Maybe you should remind your readers that all through history innocent men like Judge Kavanaugh have been accused of sexual misconduct by lying women and have suffered greatly because of it.

Please advise if it is possible to learn what potential cases will be reviewed by the Supreme Court when they reconvene next month. I am convinced that there is a case which is critical to the Democratic party and will be coming before the court and curious as to what exact case that is. Kavanaugh's nomination is being obstructed and Americans that support his nomination deserve to know the motivation. Ford's testimony is merely a delay tactic and lacks merit as well as evidence.

    Hello Governor Huckabee!
First question: There are laws against character assignation, slander, and threatening government officials (Senator Grassley, etc.) Where are the "enforcers?" I for one am available to press charges.
Second question: Since the Dems are all in for reopening the FBI's investigation, this sounds like the perfect opportunity (crisis vs. opportunity) to do just that! Call for an FBI investigation of the "FBI, special counsel" and the assault on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the assault against the American Justice System! and Do It Now! Jeff Sessions, this has nothing to do with Russia, you are either an American Patriot or you are not. You can't sit this one out!

I would be willing to add money to a Judge Kavanaugh’s fund so that private investigators can look into every knock and cranny for these women. Gov. Huckabee, I hate to be this way ... but the Democrats have revealed their true colors on more than one occasion. This is in regards to Mark Judge. They would not accept his sworn, written testimony, so he has agreed to testify in private. If their pattern holds true, the Democrats will not accept this either, and will demand that he testify in public, knowing full well of his personal struggles. Again, I hate to be this way, but I believe that they are sadistic and would take twisted delight in watching Mr. Judge struggle with anxiety on the public stage. (Forgive me, Lord!)

This is despicable! Once again, the Republicans give into the Democrats! What’s to prevent them from coming up with more bogus charges? Doesn’t anyone have consideration for the Kavanaugh? I’ll tell you this , the Republicans will lose in November, if they don’t get him confirmed by next week. Another ploy to give the Democrats their way! Should have never let Flake open his mouth! Another McCain!

I’ll tell you this , the Republicans will lose in November, if they don’t get him confirmed by next week. Another ploy to give the Democrats their way! Should have never let Flake open his mouth! Another McCain!

Evening Edition - September 28

September 28, 2018

They noted that Ford’s testimony provided no new details and that an organization of attorneys should know that the FBI can’t investigate a local crime, and certainly not one that’s 36 years old, where the accuser can’t even provide a date or location, and all the alleged witnesses deny that it happened.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/09/28/american-bar-association-requests-to-delay-brett-kavanaugh-vote-until-fbi-investigates.html

The last few days, the messages at www.holylove.org have made it clear the kavanaugh hearing is about abortion, about good versus evil. How can we Christians persuade our politicians to read these messages ?

I would be willing to add money to a Judge Kavanaugh’s fund so that private investigators can look into every knock and cranny for these women. I am sure looking into their backgrounds will reveal a lot. Then he can sue them for everything. I know he is an innocent man. Our Heavenly Father has angels surrounding him and giving him strength. Please let him know.

I have read and seen postings that two men have come forth and said that they assaulted Dr. Ford, why haven't we seen this reported on the news or Senate? Why are protesters allowed in the building where the Senate are meeting? Thank you for your reporting It is most helpful.
