MORNING NEWS BRIEFS

2. Good news to start:

It’s always nice to be able to report some good news about a Hollywood celebrity. So here’s a tip of the hat to Keanu Reeves, who not only put his career on hold, sold his house and moved to take care of his sister after she was diagnosed with leukemia, he also donated 70% of his salary from the new “Matrix” movie to leukemia research. And he founded a charity to help people living with cancer. Most amazing of all: he made sure his name wasn’t on that charity because he didn’t want it to appear to be promoting him.

https://redstate.com/jeffc/2022/01/04/just-when-you-thought-keanu-reeves-couldnt-be-more-awesome-n501985

That link also lists some of the many other quiet acts of kindness and generosity he’s performed. I apologize for sharing it because he apparently didn’t want anyone to know. But the rule in news is that if something is really unusual, it’s newsworthy.

3. Vacation days:

There seems to be some disagreement as to exactly how many days of his first year in office that President Biden has spent on vacation. But ballpark, it’s been over 25% of the year.

https://www.visiontimes.com/2022/01/04/biden-spent-95-days-27-percent-vacation-first-year.html

Personally, I’m not going to join the pile-on. In fact, if he wants to spend 100% of the rest of his term on vacation, that’s fine with me.

4. Furious, Bipartisan reaction to Chicago Teachers' Union:

The reaction to the Chicago teachers’ union shutting down schools again has been furious and bipartisan.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/ari-j-kaufman/2022/01/05/go-get-another-job-democrats-and-republicans-lambaste-teachers-unions-n1547262

https://redstate.com/bonchie/2022/01/05/chicago-teachers-go-on-strike-again-and-the-backlash-is-swift-and-somewhat-hilarious-n502218

But to be fair, it should be noted that they’re not only at odds with scientists, many political leaders, parents and even Dr. Fauci, but many teachers are also opposed to their own union leaders on this.

5. Biden takes heat:

President Biden is taking heat for fumble-tonguing through a COVID address, then ending it by saying, “There is a lot of reason to be hopeful in 2020.”

https://www.westernjournal.com/biden-stumbles-covid-address-touting-lot-reason-hopeful-2020/

I don’t think that’s fair. He’s absolutely right; there was a lot of reason to be hopeful in 2020. Then November arrived, and it all went south.

6. January 6th Anniversary News:

Before the Potomac River overflows with crocodile tears, Jennifer Van Laar of Redstate.com has a guide to all the festivities that Democrats have planned for today to try to convince us that everyone who doesn’t vote for them is an insurrectionist, along with some issues related to this date that do deserve attention but aren’t likely to get it from the Dems’ trained poodles in the mainstream media.

https://redstate.com/jenvanlaar/2022/01/06/a-guide-to-redstates-coverage-of-january-6-anniversary-events-n502546

For anyone else actually following all this bad political theater, the three legs of the three-legged dog in the Democrat’s January 6th dog-and-pony show are as follows:

1. Republicans are a threat to democracy because they refuse to accept the results of elections.

2. Republicans are uniquely prone to violence and insurrection.

3. The January 6th Capitol violence was a worse attack on America than the Civil War, Pearl Harbor and 9/11 combined.

Anyone with functioning eyes, ears or brain should immediately suspect those claims to be a load of doggy droppings, but for those who always rush to Twitter to demand “Show your sources!”, here ya go:

https://www.realclearinvestigations.com/articles/2021/09/09/realclearinvestigations_jan_6-blm_comparison_database_791370.html

Realclearinvestigations.com compiled a database comparing the January 6th riot to the summer of 2020 BLM/Anfifa riots that the Democrats defended, excused and encouraged (some even helped pay the rioters’ bail so they could get out and go right back to rioting.) For good measure, they threw in the riots in DC to try to stop Trump’s Inaugural in 2017. The Democrats and the media would like you to forget about that, the way they’d also like you to forget how Democrats challenged the electoral vote certifications of Bush and Trump in 2005 and 2017 and tried to convince electors to betray their states’ voters and vote for Hillary instead of Trump in 2016. Or as some might call that, a refusal to accept election results and a clear attempt to subvert democracy.

You can dive deep into the details at the link, but here are the comparisons in a nutshell:

* The summer 2020 riots resulted in 15 times more injured cops, 23 times more arrests and estimated damages of about 1300 times more than those of January 6th.

* Authorities have much more vigorously pursued the Capitol rioters than the summer 2020 rioters. Dozens of accused Capitol rioters have been held in pretrial detention for months, many allegedly suffering mistreatment, while the vast majority of summer 2020 rioters were released with charges dismissed. Prosecutors have dropped only one Capitol case.

* Both prosecutors and judges have weighed the political views of the Capitol defendants in adjudicating their cases, which I assume most fair-minded Americans would consider to be blatantly unconstitutional.

I’d also point out the difference in severity of violence, with the Capitol rioters accused of swinging bats and poles, pushing and trampling people, and spraying chemical irritants; while the BLM/Antifa rioters were accused of shooting at officers, throwing Molotov cocktails, trying to trap cops between protesters and fires, throwing dangerous objects from elevated positions, doxing officers and their families and aiming lasers at their eyes.

And the carnage rolls on every day in blue cities across America, as liberal leaders who caved in to those rioters by cutting back on policing opened the floodgates to a tsunami of violent crime, including homicides, that continues to this day. And by the way, the vast majority of the homicide victims are black.

So pardon me if I don’t shed a tear for the trauma suffered by our brave Democrat Congress members. From day one, I've condemned anyone who broke the law in the Capitol that day. But my deeper sympathies are reserved for those Americans who lost their homes and businesses, who were physically assaulted and even lost loved ones to the dangerous, radical BLM/Antifa rioters that those very same Democrats defended as “peaceful protesters.”

7. TOP NEWS: Merrick Garland's "Jan. 6" speech: predictable, yet HILARIOUS!

On Wednesday, Attorney General Merrick Garland gave his promised speech about the "Justice" Department’s investigation into the Capitol Hill riot, and it was just what we expected from such a partisan shill. (Yes, those are harsh words, but we’ve seen this man in action.) I’d like to examine just the latter part of his speech, starting with these words: “The actions we have taken thus far will not be our last. The 'Justice' Department remains committed to holding all January 6 perpetrators, AT ANY LEVEL [emphasis mine], accountable under law, whether they were present that day or were otherwise criminally responsible for the assault on our democracy.”

Wednesday on MSNBC, former Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill made it clear who he means. President Trump has been demonized so frantically by the left, they are set on prosecuting him for treason. The dangerous fictional Trump she describes bears no resemblance to the Trump we know. But make no mistake –- when they say “at any level,” they mean Trump, along with any Republican members of Congress they can possibly unseat.

https://www.breitbart.com/clips/2022/01/05/mccaskill-trump-is-the-most-dangerous-leader-our-country-has-had/

Merrick clearly will never stop: “Because January 6 was an unprecedented attack on the seat of our democracy, we understand that there is broad public interest in our investigation. We understand that there are questions about how long the investigation will take and about what, exactly, we are doing. Our answer is, and will continue to be, the same answer we would give with respect to any ongoing investigation: as long as it takes, and whatever it takes, for justice to be done, consistent with the facts and the law.”

Later: “Investigating the more overt crimes generates linkages to less overt ones. Overt actors and the evidence they provide can lead us to others who may also have been involved. And that evidence can serve as a foundation for further investigative leads and techniques.”

He insists they are “not following an agenda or an assumption,” but the facts. This is where the speech starts to become amusing.

It goes from amusing to screamingly funny as he builds on that theme: “[Our] central norm in our criminal investigations: there cannot be different rules depending on one’s political party or affiliation. There cannot be different rules for friends and foes. And there cannot be different rules for the powerful and the powerless. There is only one rule. We follow the facts, and enforce the law in a way that respects the Constitution and protects civil liberties.”

I’ll pause while you pick yourself up off the floor after rolling around laughing.

Garland goes on to cite numerous egregious examples of hateful letters and actions taken against people for political reasons. Certainly, these are NOT funny, and I condemn them just as forcefully as he did and hope you do as well, but his "Justice" Department ignores the multitudinous examples of vicious hate and violence coming from the left.

Garland says this: “These acts and threats of violence are not associated with any one set of partisan or ideological views. But they are permeating so many parts of our national life that they risk becoming normalized and routine if we do not stop them.” Congratulations to the AG for saying something I agree with 100 percent. How I wish I thought he meant the first part.

He goes on: “The Department has been clear that expressing a political belief or ideology, no matter how vociferously, is not a crime. We do not investigate or prosecute people because of their views." What Mr. Selective Prosecution fails to mention is the extremely violent behavior of those on the left who, month after month, trash cities, loot businesses, burn buildings and commit violent assault and go unpunished. What about the civil liberties of their victims? And what about the civil liberties of those Trump supporters charged but not convicted of any crime, detained without bail while awaiting trial for over a year? For him to talk about civil liberties and equal justice is a joke.

Predictably, Garland moves to the need for “election integrity” reform. “In recent years,” he says, “...the protections of the Voting Rights Act have been drastically weakened...[since certain court decisions] there has been a dramatic increase in legislative enactments that make it harder for millions of eligible voters to vote and elect representatives of their own choosing.” In true Marc Elias style, Garland cites voting rules, redistricting plans, and “abnormal post-election audits that put the integrity of the voting process at risk.”

I beg to differ; audits PRESERVE the integrity of the voting process at a time when over half the country has doubts.

“Some have even suggested permitting state legislatures to set aside the choice of the voters themselves,” Garland says. “...Many of those enactments have been justified by unfounded claims of material vote fraud in the 2020 election. Those claims, which have corroded people’s faith in the legitimacy of our elections, have been repeatedly refuted by the law enforcement and intelligence agencies of both the last administration and this one, as well as by every court, federal and state, that has considered them.”

True, the courts refused to examine the evidence. But THAT has corroded people’s faith in elections. And the evidence continues to grow.

https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/elections/georgia-opens-investigation-possible-illegal-ballot-harvesting-2020

Garland then moves to election “reform” legislation: “It is essential that Congress act to give the Department the powers we need to ensure that every eligible voter can cast a vote that counts.”

So, what’s in this bill, the one we like to call the “Voter Fraud Legalization Bill”? In a must-see segment with Tucker Carlson, Victor Davis Hanson explains very simply what it does and why it’s blatantly unconstitutional.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL1v8BpMymo

Legal analyst Andrew McCarthy, speaking with Martha McCallum after Garland’s speech, noticed how coordinated it seemed to be with the administration’s legislative agenda: “...the Justice Department is very much in synch with the administration and the congressional Democrats, who seem to be turning the page...on to voting rights...And they are going to try to inject January 6 into every item of their agenda.” He doubts they’ll be successful with this; maybe the strategy is just too obvious.

Former acting AG Matt Whitaker said, “This speech was below the office of attorney general. I was not impressed with his update. I think it’s inconsistent with the Department of Justice’s position of not speaking about evidence and not speaking about cases and letting the filings and the trials speak for themselves.” Whitaker also made this important point: “I would have liked to have him also have named the 59 other officers that nationwide have given their lives in the line of duty.”

But our current AG isn’t thinking about those officers. I would imagine, though, that Garland –- as the partisan ideologue he so clearly has shown himself to be –-truly believes it when he says he and the Department are committed to “equal justice.” It’s just that with the pretzel logic they use, they don’t know what equal justice is. Thankfully, this is becoming obvious to more and more Americans who are treated as second-class citizens when it comes to their own civil rights. Garland is in such a leftist bubble, he would never understand why over half half the people watching his speech were, if not throwing things at the screen, at least looking around for something to throw.

Nick Arama at RedState.com had a similar take on Garland's speech.

10. Hymnal: What a Friend We Have in Jesus

Today's hymn is recommended by Steve M.

LISTEN: https://youtu.be/Zsp5exNyd94

1 What a friend we have in Jesus,

all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry

everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit,

O what needless pain we bear,

all because we do not carry

everything to God in prayer!

----

2 Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged;

take it to the Lord in prayer!

Can we find a friend so faithful

who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness;

take it to the Lord in prayer!

This speech says a lot about Garland’s character. I suspect he is seeking revenge for the GOP preventing him from being on SCOTUS. I thank our Lord that he is not a Supreme. Of course one problem we continue to have is that our one time incorruptible FBI is no longer. We cannot count on them finding voter fraud. I have no doubt their has been voter cheating in the past by both parties, but the DNC has turned it into a fine art. I think of the more well regarded Dems in past powerful positions who would be appalled at the current extremes of the left. No longer is their thought given what is best for the people but only what will keep them in office permanently. I was never one for term limits but I am changing my mind. Too much power is invested in a handful of people.

Try this scenario for a not so funny laugh: Biden resigns, Kamala becomes President and appoints .Hilary as VP, Kamala is impeached and convicted, guess who becomes POTUS. Guess who is First Gentleman. I will pause until you get back from the porcelain receptacle.

My State Senator Manchin is possibly the most powerful person in the Country.

Hi Governor Huckabee-Thank you for your daily newsletter. Regarding Jan. 6 which was an unfortunate event-I saw a clip of Senator Ted Cruz referring to this as a "terrorist attack", which to my mind would equate it with Pearl Harbor and Sept. 11, which is non-sense. I know democrats are committed to keeping Jan. 6 alive as the worst day in american history, but when republicans start jumping on that band wagon, I get greatly concerned, especially someone like Cruz who should not be engaging in exaggerated rhetoric-( could it be he is planning on running for president in 2024 as a challenge to Donald Trump?) God bless.

With bitter cold embracing my location I stayed inside and watch a portion of biden's rant on the upper level's TV. I could not withstand the assault harris and biden had on the happenings on Jan.6 2021 bringing up the invasion of the Japanese Air force on our Naval Base in Hawaii was an indignant reminder of Japan's society of cruel and cowardly behavior and the 911 attack by Terrorist Muslims another reminder of people around the world that hate Americans and its way of life. This immoral reminder of hateful people from around the world comparing it to an Americans Trespassing charge today is in no way to describe the event that took its course a year ago. A break in happened and a window got broken and a Capital policeman killed an American taking a selfie while at the Capitol while at a window is on Capital police. The police man killed an Ameican while not offering any resistance no charge applied in that murder to the Capitol policman in Another case a policewoman fired a weapon at a criminal trying to escape while a warrant for his arrest was being applied and the possibility of the criminal kiling her with a car the policewoman has been convicted of 1st degree and 2nd degree Manslaughter in trying to stop a criminal from further criminal activity how do the 2 loss of life compare? May harris or biden explain that. Or for that matter the Invasion of a US naval port by a foreign military force or the murder of over 3000 Americans in the 911 Invasions by foreign Muslin Terroists Trespassing compare to military invasions massive destruction massive murder compare to a broken door and a broken window, Com on man.
