Since some of you are likely stuck at home, either because your workplace shut down or your Friday night plans got canceled, here’s something entertaining to help pass the time. Let's all wish a big “Happy Birthday” to MAD Magazine cartoonist Al Jaffee, who turns 99 today (Friday the 13th is not unlucky for him!)

One of the most widely loved and admired cartoonists both in and outside of the industry, Jaffee created and, for over 50 years, drew the “MAD Fold-ins” on the inside back covers (he recently turned it over to younger artists.) Those are the ingenious drawings that look like one thing but change into something else when you fold the page.

At this link is a brief interview about how came up with the idea and how he somehow creates them without ever folding them himself. Make it full screen, and you can read the examples they show.

And since it might be a long quarantine, here are 13 more…

Last year, the New York Times launched the “1619 Project,” an attempt to rewrite American history to brainwash children into thinking America was founded not on freedom and equality but on the principle of preserving slavery (1619 was the year the first slaves arrived.) Never mind that many of the Founders detested slavery as an abomination and did everything in their power to oppose it. This false anti-American revisionism has even infected schools across America.

Fortunately, it’s also sparked a major backlash. Historians risked being branded racist by leftist academia and stood up to blast the Times’ propaganda for its bias and errors. It was especially helped when a group of black academics launched “The 1776 Initiative” to refute it, and blasted the “1619 Project” for its “infantilization of black America” and “the denial of blacks’ agency throughout their history.”

All this pushback is having a positive effect. The Times has been forced to issue a “clarification” to the "1619 Project." It’s only two words – they couldn’t bring themselves to admit any more than that -- but it has a similar effect as removing just one card from the bottom of a tall, teetering house of cards.

The way the media are covering the COVID-19 pandemic, you’d think that one of the symptoms of coronavirus was that your hair caught on fire. At the link, a comparison of today’s panic and hysteria to the way they downplayed the H1N1 swine flu pandemic under Obama. Apparently, another symptom of COVID-19 is that you forget what the word “unprecedented” means.

Take a break from all the fevered virus news with this interview with actor John Rhys-Davies, veteran of such films as the Indiana Jones and “Lord of the Rings” movies. He’s a skeptic, but he’s bravely outspoken in his appreciation of Christianity as the source of so many things that have made Western civilization great.

If you liked that, be sure to tune in tomorrow to “Huckabee” on TBN, when John Rhys-Davies will be my guest. We’ll be talking about his latest movie, “I Am Patrick: The Patron Saint of Ireland,” which is on big screens for two nights only next week (including St. Patrick’s Day, of course) through Fathom Events.

The Wisdom of Chairman Joe: Blasting President Trump’s travel ban, Joe Biden piously declared, “A wall will not stop the coronavirus.” That prompted Rep. Dan Crenshaw to tweet back, “First, walls quite literally stop a virus. It’s kind of the whole point of a quarantine.” He added that if Biden meant it metaphorically, health experts agree that the travel ban greatly slowed the spread of the virus.

Someone should tell Joe that comments like that are never going to get him elected to the Senate.

Tom Hanks shared an update on how he and wife Rita Wilson are doing, after they were found to have the COVID-19 coronavirus. It just might be the most upbeat thing you’ll see in the news all day, and unlike all the purveyors of gloom, doom and panic, Hanks actually has the disease.

I don’t like to get into people’s personal lives, but Rep. Ilhan Omar announced that she has married the political consultant with whom she denied having a relationship after his previous wife accused her of breaking up their marriage.

If you’re wondering why she would make a marriage announcement on the same day as Trump’s pandemic address when nobody would notice it, it could be because she seems incapable of marrying anybody without opening up a huge Congressional ethics controversy.

According to the research I have read, Africans were NOT the first slaves in America! They were Irish - - whites. Also, the most hated ethnic group is the Irish. Signs in Boston, and other places, read: Hiring - Irish need not apply.

I was very impressed with today's presser. President Trump is doing everything humanly possible to get us through this pandemic.
