Word is that Sen. Lindsey Graham is thinking of dispensing with the House Democrats’ nonsensical “impeachment” articles against President Trump by having a speedy trial or a quick vote to toss them into the garbage where they belong and move on.  The thinking is that this has become an embarrassing distraction and dragged on long enough in the House, so there’s no point in prolonging it in the Senate and letting it turn into a “spectacle.”

I can understand the reasoning (although if they want to avoid a spectacle, that ship has sailed), but I have to side more with Indiana Republican Rep. Jim Banks.  He’s written a letter to Graham, urging him to reconsider.  Excerpt:

“It is urgent we fight fire with fire and tell them enough is enough.  House Republicans have done all they can to push back and expose their motives to the American people, soon it will be at your doorstep…We need to take our time and figure out exactly how Congress found itself in the current situation: poised to impeach a president on a completely partisan vote with no evidence and flimsy charges just before his re-election bid."

https://www.politico.com/news/2019/12/11/jim-banks-lindsey-graham-impeachment-082385

The Senate should also consider the fact with much of our current media having degenerated into a propaganda arm of the DNC, if the Senate doesn’t haul this out into the sunlight, many Americans will likely never learn the truth.  Thanks to dishonest reporting and commentary, polls show that far too many Americans are still convinced that Trump did something so wrong it merits removal from the White House, but just like the House Democrats who wrote the “Articles of Impeachment,” they can’t put their finger on exactly what that was.

With a “news” media so desperate to preserve a false narrative that they’ll trumpet “vindication of the FBI” as the only takeaway of the blistering Horowitz report, then literally cut away at strategic moments of his Senate testimony to keep their viewers from learning that’s not true, somebody has to do their job for them (and hey, my staff and I are only a handful of people.)

Besides, think of President Trump’s position: he’s been accused of high crimes and misdemeanors warranting removal from office on literally zero hard evidence.  He wants a trial to expose the real abusers of power and to clear his name. Besides, not exposing this for what it is and making the schemers face consequences will allow it to stand as precedent and be repeated again and again (some Democrats are already talking about impeaching Trump again if he's reelected.) And Senate Republicans think it’s enough just to dismiss the charges with no comment?

I can’t help thinking of Reagan Labor Secretary Ray Donovan, who was hit with larceny and fraud charges by a Bronx grand jury, and savaged by the media.  After he and the other defendants were acquitted, he famously asked, "Which office do I go to to get my reputation back?"

Besides, no matter how worthy of becoming trash can liner those “Articles of Impeachment” might be, if the Senate just tosses them without a thorough public airing of how they came to be, you know what the “news” narrative will be: “Trump saved by GOP Senate Cover-up!”

They’ll still try to spin and hide and lie about whatever comes out of a Senate trial with sworn testimony and cross-examination of people like Adam Schiff, but it will be much harder to bury it.  If they’re going to be partisan shills instead of journalists, at least force them to work at it.

Correcting “fake news” has become a large part of my job over the past year years, but I have to hand it to the media: even with their unenviable track record for misinforming Americans, Wednesday was a red letter day for “fake news.”

I’ve written elsewhere about CNN and MSNBC cutting away from IG Michael Horowitz’s Senate hearing whenever Democrats stopped talking and their “Vindication!” false narrative started being exposed (at one point, CNN decided that it was more important to cover a New York Yankees contract.)  But surprisingly, there was another example that ranked just as low on the journalistic integrity scale.

Wednesday, President Trump signed an executive order requiring colleges and universities to protect Jewish students from anti-Semitic discrimination or lose federal funds.  Somehow the New York Times misreported the story to suggest that Trump was not only being anti-Semitic, he was doing what Hitler did.  Follow me on this…

Times reporter Erica Green set off a firestorm on Twitter by misreporting that Trump planned to redefine Judaism as a race or nationality.  This sparked the usual Internet flurry of “Trump is Hitler” posts.

https://pjmedia.com/trending/trump-protects-jews-therefore-he-must-be-hitler/

But that’s not what the order does.  As George Mason University legal Prof. David Bernstein explains at the link below, it merely extends to Jews protection under “Title VI's prohibition on race and national-origin discrimination to the extent that such discrimination is based not on hostility to Jews as a religion, but to Jews as an ethnic group with perceived common characteristics.” This is also not a radical change, it’s just codifying a policy that was already a guidance point under both Bush II and Obama and that originated in a bill written by Democrats.

https://reason.com/2019/12/11/the-new-york-times-continues-to-misreport-the-trump-executive-order-on-antisemitism/

Even after being called out for their reprehensible misreporting, the Times still tried to push its “anti-Semitic Trump Administration” narrative with a hit piece on Ken Marcus, head of the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights, who helped write the order.

As Prof. Bernstein notes, “Either Ms. Green didn't bother to inquire about the history of the relevant Title VI controversy, which makes her incompetent, or she did, and it makes her dishonest.” I say, why argue over “either/or” when all reasonable people can agree that it’s both?

At this link, Jason Greenblatt, who describes himself as “an observant Jew who worked for Donald Trump for 23 years,” explains why he believes Trump is one of the greatest friends Israel and the Jewish people have ever had.

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/jason-greenblatt-trump-order-to-fight-anti-semitism-at-colleges-shows-he-strongly-supports-jews-and-israel

How could the alleged “paper of record” look at someone like that (who, not incidentally, has a Jewish daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren) as he signs an order in a moving and inspiring ceremony to strengthen protection of Jews against hate crimes, and somehow see “Hitler 2.0”? Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit probably put his finger on it when he said, “If you start from the axiom that Trump is Hitler, every fact becomes evidence that Trump is Hitler. Of course, only an idiot would start with that axiom, but idiots abound.”

The democrats have no facts, no evidence, nothing to impeach President Trump. I heard it all, President Trump did nothing wrong, the witnesses gave no evidence he did something wrong. President Trump did precisely what we would want him to do. However, the House democrats are going to impeach him anyway. Gov. Huckabee, do you believe a trial in the Senate will be any different because republicans have a tiny majority, because it takes three quarters of the Senate to indict and remove the President? If so Governor you are thinking too rationally, looking at this with common sense; and, as we know from the House, common sense and rational thinking do not matter and do not save the President. House republicans have argued strongly, intelligently, and heroically the facts that are on their side, and it makes no difference, the President will be impeached. I am always an optimist, but watching lie after lie after lie about everything by Pelosi, Schiff, and Nadler, I would not depend on something different in the Senate. I now believe President Trump cannot get fairness in Congress. Impeachment should be stopped right here. How? Congressional ethics committee? a court injunction? an ad blitz telling the people the truth about the democrats' lies and corruption that nullifies the people's right to elect a president? make the polls so high against impeachment the democrats would be afraid to impeach?, which should have been done weeks ago. I am extremely disappointed in the White House response to the impeachment, disappointed in the lawyers, chief of staff, advisers, public relations and the RNC. They have not protected the President and are not good enough!

Maybe the best thing all of us conservative, caring and Christian Americans can do is not watch any more of the fantasyland "impeachment" hearings that continue to shine the limelight on hate-filled Dems. The best thing we can do is not give them a public forum to mouth all their platitudes of why President Trump should in their minds be impeached when nothing they've shown so far represents even close to an impeachable offense. No matter what the Senate does or doesn't do, the Dems and their puppet media members will twist and shout their own narratives that Trump is guilty no matter what he does or doesn't do. Obama was guilty of far more treasonous acts like the Iran nuclear deal and the IRS scandal but the media always protected him. We all want to re-elect Trump but another four years of this hyped-up distorted hyperbole is going to be more than most of us can take. The only solution to our nation's problems is to not vote for any single Democrat for Congress in the 2020 election and let their presidential candidates implode on themselves with their craziness.

you got THAT right! We have far too many idiots around, Man! Those who cut away when Graham spoke show their true colors; yellow. They are insanely afraid the masses will get the real facts. And that's why we listen to alternative media more and more. I would say most of the media is both incompetent AND devoid of any symbol of honesty.

No, the senate MUST have a trial. This is not for DT, it is to expose the deep state players all around. The corruption is too wide spread to ignore. And the senate needs to get nasty and expose it. Yes. Biden (2) must testify, the ovomit as well. It has become quite apparent, there IS no honesty in the libs. and it must be addressed in the harshest tones available. I have a feeling there will be some defections when the house vote comes up. Will nancy be unhappy? I DON'T care. The more miserable she is the better. She deserves our utmost contempt.

Thank you so much for your insight into this mess our country is experiencing. The Democrats are making a grave error in trying to impeach Pres. Trump and I predict they will find that the majority of Americans are much more interested in the fact that this is a “do nothing” Congress. We have problems that need to be addressed by our representatives and I can’t help but think if Congress would work with Pres. Trump many of them could be solved. I’m amazed at what he has accomplished in spite of all the distractions. We owe the man our utmost gratitude!

It seems to me that it would be a mistake to call the Biden’s. The purpose of the Senate hearings is to make it clear that President Trump had good cause to believe that there was potential corruption in the Burisma/Hunter Biden relationship, not that either of the Biden’s actually did something wrong (which I suspect would be hard to prove.)

    12/12/2019 05:24 PM

It is unbelievable. I have watched a fair amount if these hearings and it’s the same mean, sophomoric, hateful rhetoric over and over again. I don’t know how you defend against this. The glint in their eyes show haw savagely they despise this man. In the old days he would be drawn and quartered by an angry mob. It really hurts to see the hatred from those of color when their brothers and sisters are benefitting for the first time in a long time and more than ever. That’s really the problem. They depend on the victims too win.
But I am skeptical that voters will see the light. That he’s done something wrong has been implanted. How can we have this many people in Congress with such lack of intelligence and fundamental decency. So Catholic Pelosi prays for Trump but has no trouble supporting abortion through term. I’ll bet she not denied communion. Have to hand it to the Dems, they all ata opt no matter how ridiculous they sound. I Smith you, the nation needs to hear what these others have to say. What would Schiff do when asked , under oath, about his contact with the whistleblower? The newspapers are already setting up Barr as a partisan hack. Funny how people can have so much for some, like Barr and Durham and then turn on a dime.

I wholeheartedly agree with your thoughts regarding the need for an impeachment trial in the Senate. Since lawless Democrats (which I use to be one) has gone on record with their fairy tales of lies about President Trump, it is important for Republicans to expose the lies while going on record with the "TRUTH". President Trump deserves the right to defend himself while showing America how corrupt Democrats under the Obama/Biden administration were and still are.

Funny that one of the leaders of the Democrat Party, Jerrold Nadler, is talking about the integrity of the 2020 election when it’s the Democrats who do not want voter registration IDs and who rigged their 2016 debates against Sen. Sanders. As long as there are no voter IDs, the Dems will continue to get the illegals and the dead to vote for them.

As usual, Mr Huckabee, I agree with you that there should be a trial - it doesn't have to be a long one. Nor does it need to find facts - it simply needs to show the world how terrible the politicians who orchestrated this charade really are. To take back the House we need to do this. Let them squirm.

Someone has said, "if the democrats are accusing a republican of something, rest assured its something they have done, and believe they got away with it". Go back to Slick Willy manipulating the intelligence data on Kosovo to justify "the war of Monica's dress". Short years later they were accusing Gorge bush of the same thing, even though the intelligence on Iraq was all developed during the Clinton years. Now, the sleazy hoodlums - led by nadless nadler, who protected Obama when he refused to let officials of ATF testify before congress on "Fast and Furious" are accusing President Trump of "obstructing congress" because he asserts executive privilege on not allowing officials to testify on internal policy discussions.

Which brings us to the question of the day. When did "democrat" and "sleazy" become synonyms? Oh, the dems have always had a pretty sleazy element, going back to the days of Tammany Hall, but there was always a core who maintained responsibility and integrity. Today, is there no Harry Truman, no Sam Nunn, to stand up and say "enough with this charade"? The dems become so rotten they have to be completely defeated, to the point they can no longer exert influence in congress?

This Anti American group will always be Anti American who ever is in office. People have to be governed by the laws of the Constitution and carried to the letter. When we lose the Constitution we lose our country.

The Left are trambling on our Amendments the 10 Commandments the Golden Rule and the Decency of our Communities The Left is what decay looks like and smells like look at our Bridges our roadways Trump is doing what he can to try and fix them Trump would fix all of this if we get rid of the Zombie Left.

-------------------------------------------

Accidentally Self-Revealing Quote of the Day!  From Rep. Jerrold Nadler, explaining why the Dems are plowing ahead with impeachment charges just months before an election:  "We cannot rely on an election to solve our problems when the President threatens the very integrity of that election."

Keep up the Good Fight Governor! Your the voice for more than you imagine. In my 81 years on this planet I once wondered what it would be like to 'see' the year 2000. I was greeted with yet another World Ending scenario of Y2K. Just add that to the other 80 or so I have survived and now I have to ask the question have we actually bred and indoctrinated a class of "Public Servants" that are so ignorant they have to resort to Impeachment BECAUSE they cannot Win an Election? This may just be the DISASTER that really does end our REPUBLIC.

Linsey has done a good job of getting the truth out of the why this Impeachment is a Farce however I am in favor of hammering home till October how corrupt and unlawful the Left is and will be. This Anti American group will always be Anti American who ever is in office. People have to be governed by the laws of the Constitution and carried to the letter. When we lose the Constitution we lose our country.
