Ralph Northam's self-immolation continues

February 4, 2019

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s public self-immolation is going on for so long, it’s almost like the Hanukkah story of the small bottle of oil that miraculously kept burning for eight days and nights.  Only I can’t imagine anyone ever turning this into a holiday.

It also reminds me of the Mel Brooks movie “Blazing Saddles,” in that it started with a state governor doing something unconscionable, turned into a story of racism, brought in a guy in a KKK robe and an aborted dance number, and the story got goofier with each passing minute until it devolved into complete insanity.

In case you haven’t been paying attention, here’s a round-up of what happened prior to Northam's weekend press conference:

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2019/02/02/total-fiasco-va-dem-gov-northam-retracts-apology-says-thats-not-him-in-blackfa-n2540710

And then came Saturday’s press conference, which was the equivalent of the finale of “Blazing Saddles,” where the craziness went so over-the-top, it broke through the walls and spilled out into the parking lot.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/northam-says-he-is-not-in-racist-yearbook-photo-but-acknowledges-darkening-face-for-another-party

While continuing to resist demands from all sides for his resignation, Northam (who, the day before, had admitted to being one of the students in either blackface or a KKK hood in his medical school yearbook photo) claimed he now believes he’s not in the photo.  He is considering using facial recognition software to see if that’s him.  Two points: first, I didn’t think anyone needed facial recognition software to tell them if the person in a photo was them.  Seems like you’d know that.  Second, I think the Nobel Prize should go to whoever was smart enough to invent software that could recognize a face through a KKK hood.

But the wackiness didn’t stop there: remember, he’s “workin’ for Mel Brooks!”  He went on to deny being at the party where that photo was taken, but did admit to once attending a party where he darkened his face with makeup to impersonate Michael Jackson so he could perform the Moonwalk.  When a reporter asked if he could still do the Moonwalk, Northam appeared to be willing, until his wife stepped in and declared it “inappropriate circumstances.”  He should be thanking God every day for his wife.

To be intellectually consistent and nonpartisan, I suppose I should defend his right to presumption of innocence if he denies the accusation, although it is harder when he already admitted it, then retracted his admission (sounds like he really did master the art of walking backwards like Michael Jackson.)  And whether he’s in it or not, students reportedly got to pick the photos that appeared on their yearbook pages, and that’s what he picked.  But wait: he also claims he doesn’t recall picking it.  Confused enough yet?

I also don’t like the current practice of destroying people for violating societal standards years before those standards were invented or when they were too young to know better – although you’d think medical school students in the 1980s would know even then that blackface and Klan robes weren’t, like, totally righteous, dude.  Gag me with a spoon.

Commentary continues below advertisement

So what I’m going to do is set aside for now the issues of whether he was in those racist photos or is a hypocrite who accuses others of racism (see this link for more on that)…

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/mike-huckabee-unearths-classless-va-governor-interview-hours-photos-surface/

The media can continue digging into those questions after he resigns over what he should have resigned for before those photos ever emerged: his horrific comments about babies born alive during an abortion (that they should be “kept comfortable” while the parents and doctors have a discussion about whether to get them medical care or murder them.  He didn’t put it that way, of course; I just replaced his gaseous euphemisms with something more accurate.)

As Governor of Arkansas, the worst duty I had to perform was signing off on executions.  I didn’t want to overrule judges and juries who had sat through trials and carefully considered all the evidence.  But I also didn’t want to take the chance of allowing someone to be executed if there were any mitigating factors or exculpatory evidence that had gone overlooked. In every death penalty case, I read the case files and court records carefully, looking to see if there was any legitimate reason why the death penalty should not be imposed.  Taking a life, even of a convicted killer, is the ultimate punishment the state can impose.  That’s why it is applied only to those who have violated the sanctity of life themselves by taking the lives of others.

The responsibility for protecting life doesn’t just apply to decisions about death penalty cases.  Governors have to make many decisions that can result in life-or-death consequences, from police and prison oversight to health care decisions.  Nobody should be entrusted with that high office who does not understand and appreciate the sanctity of human life and the heavy responsibility for protecting it that goes with the job.

So for that reason – Northam’s shocking failure to grasp the most obvious examples of his duty to protect innocent life (abortion up through the moment of birth is wrong, and when a baby that has already been born under any circumstances is struggling to live, you get it medical care RIGHT NOW!) is more than reason enough to demand that he resign immediately.

And again, to be intellectually consistent, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo should also resign immediately.

How did we ever arrive at such a tragic time that anyone would advocate murdering a baby. No medical person could do that because of their oath to do no harm. So who will these murderers be—not that that is the point. Murder is murder by any hand. How did we get from bring a great American nation to such corruption of power and morals.

Sadly, Governor Northam is the face of the “New” Democrat Party. At one time I was a liberal until like Charles Krauthammer I had an awakening. I realized that giving out free stuff for the votes with the rest of the hardworking taxpayers paying the bill not only minimized incentive but created a dependent lifestyle that like drugs is difficult to withdraw from. Welfare was never created to become a lifestyle choice, it was meant for those individuals who found themselves in dire economic circumstances. Governor Northam’s biggest mistake was doing the unthinkable. He actually voiced an opinion that the Dems also share but would never say it. It is the liberals that brought us abortion but they just don’t want the word to get out!

I have always said that God has a sense of humor. The way this country is going downhill so rapidly is so depressing we cry out to God to save it and to protect us. And then He sends us the most unlikely candidate in Donald Trump. And with that one move from Him, God has turned the Democratic party totally upside down and scattering about to figure out what happened. And this hasn't happened just once or twice, it is on going. Every time the left start celebrating a big win on one of their extreme agenda items, God takes a little more wind out of their sails. Point is how does a 3 to 10 pound; just out of the womb or in the womb baby, resist a full grown person with weapons to murder, defend its self? How does Cuomo or Northam or any body get to have the right to make a decision of this magnitude? I wonder how do we describe people like the above? This kind of vacillating on almost any subject of consequence is seemingly standard for approximately 99% of those who claim the political mantra of Democrat ( which essentially means liberal, socialist ) , they seem to be unable to think things thru before they speak and then try to walk it back. But this does not seem to bother people who vote for them it is very sad especially when one thinks about what is happening to our once great nation, it is as if during the eight years that Obamy was in office our citizens in large part lost almost all of their moral compass. But this should have been expected since it is apparent that our nation has separated itself from our God and his son Jesus for the most part.

Ralph Northam's self-immolation continues

    Good day Governor,
Thank you for bringing us true and up to date news about the current political situation in our country.
regarding the debacle about 3rd term abortion and the legislation that NY and other states are seeking where does the "father" fir into this scenario? A Decision for abortion can be made by the mother and the surgeon what about the rights of the "father" or does he not have any?
The father can be held - and is indeed responsible - for child support but has no voice when an abortion is approved? Is this justice?

And this pompous governor from Virginia just got a little taste of it. God does not like someone trying to play His role, and with a flick of His mighty finger, and one falls at the wayside. Keep praying!

    What I found hard to believe is that he didn't know what his yearbook page looks like - who doesn't look at their own page ? and that he couldn't remember getting into a costume for something - even if he...wait for it... " only had one beer " ;-}

Mike; I agree that we do have to allow for Governor Northam's presumed innocence and wait to see what happens; but while we're waiting, the absolute weirdness of his verbal "one step forward, two steps backwards" (acknowledgement, then denial) is fair game, for comment!
Hearing the Governor's awkward explanation made me think of a former colleague's spoof of me during the middle years of my Government career (DOD). Our base paper had published a picture of me, and others, loading donated boxes of clothes onto a local Charity's truck. My fellow worker placed the photo onto a separate piece of paper, with a funny caption describing the photo as one actually taken by an appliance store's security camera, snapped - and used as evidence - for my arrest! Here's the "kicker," Mike! The last line of his verbal spoof was, " Mr. Kosinski told reporters that everyone in the world has a "double," and this is not him!"

The madness continues. How long before God rains down His judgement on us like Sodom and Gomorrah? As the late, great philosopher Derry Brownfield continually said, "Ignorance gone to seed."

Yes, these abortions, 1 & all are awful. The only saving thought is, they are in heaven. But seriously, how can any judge & call themselves a judge, not call this murder. Can judges group together & challenge this? On the grounds that it's murder & they put others away for this, why not doctors or parents. Maybe both. How do we fight this awful sin? People literally have been brainwashed & bought by Planned Parenthood. Now if they take the money paid them by our government & put that into politicians pockets, is that against the law?

I just don’t understand all this hypocrisy of the left! They wear black faces, white hoods, are completely racist against anyone who supports Trump, hateful to anyone with a different view, want to kill babies, either in the womb or out, they want illegals in to make them safe, us not safe, they are so upside down, yet they keep getting away with it! How can it be?! What are we to do to change this atrocious stuff that is going on?! I just can’t even fathom how people on the left are not seeing what is going on and aren’t just appalled! How can the media be stopped? How can the murder of our children be stopped by these evildoers?! I am just in shock over all that is going on, and it appears they are somehow winning. I fear for us going into 2020. The left is unhinged, and they are taking so many with them. Now with all the illegals coming in, they will have their votes. I really can’t believe this is our America.

Gov. Can you answer 1 question for me? If it can be proven that the KKK is democrats, why don't they confront the huge skeleton in their own closet? They keep making it out that Republicans are racist. When can someone prove with history & current events, that it's the dems that are racist. They are labeling our best President & us wrongly. Why aren't the computer savy Republicans blowing up the internet with this info? Thank you.

Huck Amazing how you put thoughts and understandings of issues to print, gifted. To take a life to preserve your own is just and right in my view or to protect one who cannot protect itself. Point is how does a 3 to 10 pound; just out of the womb or in the womb baby, resist a full grown person with weapons to murder, defend its self? How does Cuomo or Northam or any body get to have the right to make a decision of this magnitude? I wonder how do we describe people like the above? Well what is the difference between an Isis member beheading a human with it hands tied behind their back while on their knees or a human butcher killing a human baby? So big bad Cuomo why not join Isis and put your killing skills against the US Marines? For your sake you better stay behind your security your not man enough to fight some one who will fight back. This may feel gruesome to some that is because it is. As for the picture of the painted face and the guy in the clown suit I have never witness either live ,and I have been around for 70 years I have read about KKK members and watched them on TV and they made me cry, even to this day I could not stand for that abuse so do me a favor don't bring that crap up it only makes me want to cry.
