We need a lot more Republicans with the backbone of Sen. Rand Paul.

Sunday, in a remarkable interview, he pushed back forcefully against George Stephanopoulos’ insistence that he say the 2020 election was “not stolen.” As if any objective person, well-versed in what happened before, during and after Election Day, could say that with certainly.

Tuesday, on the Senate floor, Sen. Paul unloaded on Democrats bent on removing a President from office who is already gone. This speech preceded his point of order to affirm that the planned impeachment trial is unconstitutional, as the impeachment of a private citizen is illegal and “essentially, a bill of attainder.”

Sen. Paul appeared later Tuesday on FOX NEWS with Maria Bartiromo, who reported that the Senate had voted 55-45 to set aside his point of order. Still, with 45 senators on record saying this trial is unconstitutional, there won’t be a conviction and this is all just extremely divisive political theater.

"If you voted that it was unconstitutional,” Sen. Paul told POLITICO, “how in the world would you ever convict somebody for this? This vote indicates it’s over. The trial is all over.” And in a tweet, Paul said the House impeachment case is “dead on arrival.”

You can see the video of his speech here at POLITICROSSING, which also has a brief biographical piece on Sen. Paul.

The Kentucky senator opens by talking about what this trial will NOT do: “unify” the country. It does just the opposite of what Democrats claim to want to do. “Impeaching a former President, a private citizen, is the antithesis of unity,” Paul says. “Unity is the opposite of this travesty we’re about to witness.”

He points out that the appointment of a “pro-impeachment Democrat” to preside is neither fair nor impartial. And he’s right: Sen. Patrick Leahy –- whom I would add has ALREADY SAID he would vote to impeach –- is presiding instead of Chief Justice John Roberts, who opted out. The refusal of Chief Justice Roberts to participate is, in itself, enough to show this proceeding for the unconstitutional sham it is.

[Related news: on Tuesday, it was reported that Sen. Leahy, 80, was “feeling unwell” and taken to the hospital for examination and tests but returned home Tuesday night. No details were given. We pray for him and his family.]

"Hyper-partisan Democrats,” Paul says in his speech, “are about to drag our great country down into the gutter of rancor and vitriol the likes of which has never been seen in our nation’s history.”

Truly, I believe that if you don’t count the Civil War –- which seems to be the only worse time that comes to mind these days –- Paul is right in saying this is the most “uncivil” it’s been.

"It’s almost as if they have no ability to exist except in opposition to Donald Trump.”

Bingo –- and now that he’s gone, they will be aiming their venom at anyone who doesn’t share that opposition. Worse, they’ll feel totally self-righteous and “woke” about it.

Paul does a great job of contrasting Trump’s call for “peacefully and patriotically” making their way to the Capitol Building to some of the genuinely incendiary comments that have been made by Democrats.

"No Democrat will honestly ask whether Bernie Sanders incited the shooter that nearly killed Steve Scalise,” he says. Sen. Paul was there and saw that it easily could have become a massacre. “[The shooter] fervently believed the false and inflammatory rhetoric spewed by Bernie and other Democrats...[about Republicans opposing Obamacare wanting people to die].” Sen. Paul notes that when the shooter pulled the trigger, he screamed, “This is for health care!!”

Sen. Paul also cites Sen. Cory Booker, who called for his supporters to “get up in their face [of members of Congress],” and Rep. Maxine Waters, who told her supporters “that if you see a member of the Trump administration at a restaurant, at a department store, at a gas station, or any place, you create a crowd, and you push back on them.” Paul is right: Such words are a recipe for mob violence, and this type of rhetoric is one big reason why anyone working for Trump was asking for trouble (and still is) just stepping outside without protection. Because of the severity of the threats, my own daughter Sarah was the first White House press secretary ever to need Secret Service protection.

Paul describes the experience he and his wife had as they left a White House rally on foot, being bullied, screamed at and threatened with death “by the same type of mob that Maxine likes to inspire.” He says that when this happened, he wasn’t sure they’d come through it alive “even with the police protection.” (My wife and I were at that event and had a similar frightening experience, although not as dangerous as Sen. Paul’s.)

He reminds them that Republicans have endured this political climate without stooping to impeach Democrats for inciting violence. They haven’t held Democrats responsible for what Antifa and BLM did, even though that has resulted in deaths, many injuries, and over $1 billion dollars in damage from burning and looting. They haven't done it even though “many on the Democrat side cheered them on,” Paul says, with Kamala Harris even offering to pay the bill for those who got arrested.

"I wonder if she’ll be brought up on charges of inciting violence,” Paul said, “now that she’s Vice President.” No, he said, because the Republicans won’t go down that “low road of impeaching people for political speech.”

"I want the Democrats to raise their hands if they have ever given a speech that says ‘take back,’ ‘fight for your country.’ Who hasn’t used the word ‘fight’ figuratively...and are we going to impeach every politician who has used the word ‘fight’ figuratively in a speech? Shame --- shame on these angry, unhinged partisans for putting on this sham impeachment, deranged by their hatred of the former President. Shame on those who seek blame and revenge, and who choose to pervert a constitutional process while doing so.”

The speech runs just over 9 minutes. It’s a must-see, especially from the 7-minute point on, when he gets into “facts,” “truth” and the censorship of opposing views. This is “a dark blot on the history of our country,” Paul says. “I urge my colleagues to reconsider this kangaroo court and move forward to debate the great issues of our day.” Sen. Paul's words need to be remembered not only for their importance, but as a reflection of this period of mass political hysteria that we pray America can pull out of.

Make no mistake, it is hysteria. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz quipped to Sean Hannity on Tuesday night that “I feel like I’m kind of trapped in GROUNDHOG DAY, where, apparently, every January, we’re gonna be doing another impeachment.”

Who were the five "republicans" that voted for continuing the sham impeachment process and why are they not being called out by the RNC?

Since President Trump first took office, I have attributed the Democrats' behavior to elitist entitlement: they are OUTRAGED that someone came in from outside their carefully controlled paths of access to power and actually succeeded in fulfilling the adage that "anyone can grow up to be President," and they remain DETERMINED to intimidate anyone who might try to do so in the future.

While all this is accurate, what it misses is a trial allows President Trump the opportunity to present the evidence that he's been denied to do in all proper channels.

The Republican guard (career politicians of the party) have learned nothing from President Trump. When Donald J. Trump began his campaign using quips and name-calling against his political opponents it not only surprised many of us who are not politicians but obviously "rocked the political world" of career politicians who wear galvanized smiles that wouldn't reveal their true perceptions of this rogue marauder who loved his country. At least not until the "never Trumpers" squealed and shouted he would never be their president. During the Presidents tenure the Trojan Horse offered up its masquerade of "Leakers" and "Whistle Blowers" from both sides of the aisle. President Trump in all of his years of experience in the business world never got a handle on to who his true loyalists were. It hurt him dearly in the 2020 election because I think he truly thought he was going to win due to those around him who fed him with words like "unprecedented", "no way", "unconstitutional", etc. Anyone who has stayed attuned to the past 8 and half years of zero convictions of Democratic pundits, entertainers, politicians, family members of Democratic politicians, judicial indifference and denial, war-time crime, political appointees, evidence tampering, fraudulent dossiers, election fraud, pay for play, etc., etc., etc. knew that anything could happen in the 2020 Election and it did. Now, impeaching a citizen who is not in office and threatening to imprison him is a crime unto itself but yet we, the American people who are told we are the ones in power are apparently powerless. Votes are neutralized, protesting demonized if you are a conservative, and first amendment rights are cancelled when not in line by the left. Where do we go from here? No one's saying but the politicians are still whining!!!

Hi Mike. I only began my subscription to your newsletter last month but I quickly realized I should have done this much sooner. I completely agree with the opening sentence to this story. I watched Sen. Paul's speech online Tuesday evening and it has to be one of the best things I have ever heard come out of Washington. 100% accurate and full of facts. I thought I read somewhere, maybe in one of your newsletters, that the Chief Justice is required to preside over an impeachment trial. Since he opted out, and that it is illegal to impeach a private citizen, that should be a huge hint. I've equated Democratic behavior with the "blue pen" scene from Liar Liar; holding a blue pen while trying to call it a red one. My suggestion is, if Congress goes through with this, and especially if they return a "guilty" verdict, every Congressman, and Congresswoman, involved should be removed from office. Impeached if you will. But if not for this, they should be removed for H.R.1!

    Sincerely,

  • Charlotte Brees

I am so tired of hearing about all the crappy stuff the democrats are doing to furthur divide our country. What's even worse, they are spending MY TAX DOLLARS to do it. They have no intention of unifying the country unless it is to shut up people with differing thoughts & opinions than those of the Democrat Elite, God help us. I've found I cannot even talk with a Biden/Harris supporter without being raved at & called disgusting names. I've always been tolerant of people who think differently than I do, but I am fast learning some of their abusive tactics. I am tolerant of differences, but I WILL NOT BE ABUSED!

I live the Bible verse at the top. Want bad at the end, either. My thought on the Democrat threats and support of violence: They are cowards. They are sticking together under the guise of “unity”. The only unity I feel they are displaying is their hatred of conservatives. I applaud Paul’s courage when there are so many others on the republican side who aren’t speaking truth when it is needed most. Also, I pray for your daughter and your entire family for safety and continued boldness. Blessings Always!

I agree with you Mr Huckabee and Senator Paul! What he said is 100% right. The Democrats have completely lost their minds and America is suffering because of it. I am very afraid for the next four years to unfold. What Biden has already done is horrible and scary and detrimental to America. It seems the Democrats have no conscience or remorse and definitely live under double standards. As a senior citizen I wonder if I will financially survive the next four years. As it is I been been living below poverty level. I've had enough as have so many other people. We expect our Republican politicians to STAND up for us. Thank you Mr Cruz and Mr Paul

First, I am sure this will not happen, but I think Queen Nancy and court jester Shifty Shciff should issue a public apology to DJT and take back the first impeachment based on all of the info that is coming out. Second, they should rip up the second impeachment just like The Queen did to DJT's speech. What a bunch of hypocrites!!

They make up the rules or alter the rules as they go along. If the Chief Justice will not attend make one of your members the presiding officer, to heck with the constitution. Even though the president is the target and no longer in office go ahead and try a private citizen. Violating the constitution again. The sole aim is to discredit and destroy the former president. The hate began before he was sworn in office and continues after he is out of office. That is hate beyond anything to measure it by. So many unhappy people with never a smile on their face unless they are punishing someone!

ITS a shame that the demoncrats have been allowed to run rampant all year with the ANTIFA AND BLM riots, then when the tweet that DID not say cause trouble in the Capitol was deleted and TRUMP and his supporters are suddenly NO GOOD PEOPLE if that doesnt smack of communism what else does? I feel we should hold the demoncrats responsible for the diabolical riots that took place since they did NOT condemn them, NOR stop them,, Impeaching the President that no longer holds office is NOT going to unify this country,, in fact right NOW the conservatives would love nothing better then to run their heads up a PROVERBIAL pole then deal with such demented people like the demoncrats have become

    Trump Indictment News

A big thank you to the 45 Republican Senators who stood up to be counted. Shame on the 5 who didn't, they are not real Republicans and their constituents should remember that come election time.

      Thank You Sen. Rand Paul
This circus from the Dems have gone on to long.
We need to get them out and replace them.

A big thank you to the 45 Republican Senators who stood up to be counted. Shame on the 5 who didn't, they are not real Republicans and their constituents should remember that come election time.

What can we do as an American citizen wanting fairness (and of course, impeaching Pres. Trump certainly isn't fair). I wonder where the money goes that is requested from our elected officials.

I wonder to which charities Fauci is donating his salary.

Gropin' Joe, aka Beijing Briben has done more damage to America in one week than most of his predecessors could do in eight years. He needs to pace himself, or maybe he knows his days with the pen are numbered.

I want to know what the republican party is going to do about the rhinos, Collins, Murkowski, Swear,Romney, and Toomey? I am sick of the inability of the party to have a united fro t against this type of pure partisan theatrics!

Also, everytime I click on the links (like advertisments) it goes to somewhere different. Not sure who puts those on your emails, but they do not seem to work.

I feel after reading the article and speech by Senator rand Paul that I have finally been heard and somebody has finally had the guts to say exactly what needs to be said! Bravo and job well done! Now, if the rest of the "team" will stand beside him and pull their shoulders back is another deal. I hope they have the guts to do so! Otherwise get out of the way!

My question is this: Why AREN’T our Republician representatives pressing the issue of all the Democrats inciting violence? I’m telling you that the PEOPLE of the United States of America want this to happen! We WANT our representatives to stand up for us and ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING!
I’m sorry but the people I talk to are VERY disappointed in our representatives. We will be remembering this in 2022 for all those that voted to impeach!

Thank you , Mr. Huckabee, for providing the full video of Senator Rand Paul's spot on retort to those who wanted to bring further division to our country by putting former President Trump on trial before the U.S. Senate. Bravo for Senator Paul's candor!!
Thank you for your newsletter and I think your daughter Sarah Sanders would be a wonderful governor who is clear headed and not afraid to stand up for what is commonly and morally correct! God bless you and God bless America! Kathy
