THE MORNING EDITION By Mike Huckabee

Good morning! My staff and I are still officially "on vacation" until Thursday, but we don't want you to have to go cold turkey. You're getting enough of that from your Thanksgiving leftovers. So I wanted to share with you some quick takes on the headlines, plus some commentaries not tied to a particular breaking story. We'll be back to covering the day's news in more depth in a couple of days.

Our newsletter today includes:

  • Lie of the Year
  • Winsome Sears has a plan for Republicans
  • Prayer Tree
  • And Much More

DAILY BIBLE VERSE

This verse was recommended by Dolores M.

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

John 14:2-3 NIV

THE LATEST NEWS

1. COVID Update:

The CDC finally yielded to science and all the industries like airlines that were shutting down due to short staffing, and they have shortened the guidelines for quarantining after testing positive for COVID from 10 days to five days. That also applies to people who had close contact with someone who tested positive.

https://redstate.com/jenniferoo/2021/12/27/cdc-catches-up-to-actual-science-with-quarantine-guidelines-shift-from-10-days-to-five-n498046

2. Headline needs rewriting:

Our Surgeon General is understandably alarmed by a steep rise in feelings of helplessness, depression and thoughts of suicide among children, teens and young adults.

https://hotair.com/karen-townsend/2021/12/27/surgeon-general-alarmed-by-rise-in-child-suicides-triggered-by-pandemic-n437864

That headline, though, needs some rewriting. As Prof. Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit pointed out, all those mental health issues weren’t “triggered by the pandemic,” they were triggered by the government’s authoritarian “lockdown everything” reaction to the pandemic, even when dealing with schools full of kids nearly all of whom are basically immune to the disease.

At least the incredible damage wrought by the “expert” class’s wrongheaded overreaction to COVID is finally starting to be recognized, even by someone from CBS News. It’s too bad that CBS felt it had to censor its own reporter for speaking the truth, but having someone from that network grasp the truth and speak up about it is at least a baby step in the right direction.

3. A look at Trump's support for vaccines and the reaction to it:

A lot has been made in the media of a crowd at a Trump rally actually booing when Trump promoted vaccination. He’s also been criticized for reacting too nicely to the Biden White House giving some faint credit to the “previous Administration” for developing the vaccines, when they couldn’t even bring themselves to mention his name. This is a good article about the disconnect between Trump’s support of the vaccines and the suspicion of them by some of his supporters. It’s pretty fair and balanced in putting it into context.

4.  Winsome Sears has a plan for Republicans:

Virginia’s Lt. Gov-elect Winsome Sears has been out of the spotlight for a while as she prepares to assume office, but she recently gave an interview to the New York Times, and what she had to say must’ve left the Times’ liberal editors shaking and reaching for their Maalox. She laid out how she thinks Republicans should counter the Democrats’ politics of racial division head on and defuse their stranglehold on minority voters by showing that you don’t have to support the Democrats, even if it’s against your own best interests, just because you’re a particular race.

The more I see of this lady, the more impressed I am. I think she has a terrific future in GOP politics. Here’s my exclusive interview with her on TBN, right after her historic win.

5. “Worst Quotes of the Year”:

The Media Research Center compiled its “Worst Quotes of the Year” from so-called news professionals. I don’t think I need to add “Spoiler Alert” before I tell you that #1 was a tie, and they both came from people at CNN.

7. “Lie of the Year” for 2021:

The Washington Free Beacon also chose its “Lie of the Year” for 2021, awarding “Four Bill Clintons” to President Biden for his promise, “I will shut down the virus.”

https://freebeacon.com/coronavirus/biden-covid-death/

Technically, that was a campaign promise, so it’s actually from 2020, but most people didn’t really know how big a lie it was until after he’d been in office for a year or so. They should have, however. Throughout 2020, Democrats like Biden tried to paint the virus as Trump’s fault, every death from it as his personal responsibility (some even claimed he wanted people to die), and his inability to cure it as proof that he was uncaring and incompetent.

That was, of course, all cruel, divisive, slanderous nonsense, and anyone who thought about it at all knew it at the time. I repeatedly pointed out that no President could possibly stop an airborne virus from entering America and spreading (Democrats claimed he couldn’t even keep illegal immigrants out of America, then fought to stop him; and when he tried to keep virus carriers from China out of America, they fought to stop him from doing that, too.) Nobody is to blame for this virus spreading around the world. Well, China, but we’re not allowed to say that, for some reason.

Of course, now that he’s the guy in charge, Biden has finally admitted that nobody, not even a President, has the power to keep a virus out of the country and there is no federal solution to the pandemic, just as Obama was eventually forced to admit that there were no “shovel-ready jobs” after we spent nearly a trillion dollars to create them.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/critics-slam-hypocrite-biden-for-claiming-no-federal-solution-to-pandemic-after-vow-to-shut-down-covid

Even though Biden took office at a time when vaccines had just become available and we'd learned a lot more about COVID and how to treat it, there have still been more deaths under his tenure than under Trump’s (over 420,000 so far compared to 402,269 under Trump.) But I wouldn’t blame Biden personally for those deaths, although I do believe that this Administration’s open hostility to virtually all potential therapeutic treatments in its single-minded obsession with vaccination hasn’t helped. In fact, Sen. Rand Paul blames Dr. Fauci’s negative attitude toward therapeutic treatments for thousands of deaths every month.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/rand-paul-thousands-monthly-covid-deaths-fauci-vaccine-bias

And the government’s isolating lockdown policies and mandates that have contributed to rising depression, suicides and drug addiction are a separate lethal issue. But no, I don’t think it’s Biden’s fault when someone contracts COVID.

That said, it’s a stone cold fact that there have been more COVID deaths under Biden than under Trump. The fact that someone on CNN insisted that that’s “fake news” and those numbers are “completely wrong” is just further verification that they are accurate.

9. Hymnal: TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS

Today's hymn is recommended by Dona F.

LISTEN: https://youtu.be/EYxCrtWcVIw

---

1. O soul, are you weary and troubled?

No light in the darkness you see?

There’s light for a look at the Savior,

And life more abundant and free!

Refrain:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look full in His wonderful face,

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,

In the light of His glory and grace.

---

2. Thro' death into life everlasting,

He passed, and we follow Him there;

O’er us sin no more hath dominion--

For more than conqu’rors we are!

---

3. His Word shall not fail you--He promised;

Believe Him, and all will be well:

Then go to a world that is dying,

His perfect salvation to tell!

    A note to Ms. Sears,

Thank you for bringing such a positive note to what has been largely a creation of racial discord by Democrats. Yes, we must all acknowledge the sins of our forefathers and of segregation, but this country has tried harder than any other to provide equal opportunity to minorities, as we should. We have seen a number of people of African heritage rising to leadership in the GOP. In my opinion, and I believe many others, you are a bright shining star that will demonstrate that minorities and women can rise in the ranks of leadership and encourage everyone regardless of skin color to have confidence in their own abilities. For too long the left has insulted minorities, particularly Black people, by trying to persuade them that the do not have the capacity to achieve on their own, Leftists always fail to look ahead and evaluate the consequences of their actions. Our welfare system encouraged the breakup of family units and the lack of fathers in the home, for example. Tolerance for disruptive behavior turned schools in minority neighborhoods into battle zones where children cannot learn. Quite frankly, the left wants to keep Black people on the plantation, to be controlled. You are going to so instrumental in changing that as a woman of example, leadership, courage and conviction. My best wishes to you for a happy and productive New Year. The Country, as well as Virginia, are both better off for your successful election.

    Thank you,
Anne, an 81 year old Independent white woman.

    Afghanistan, Afghanistan, Afghanistan.

Even you are now forgetting about it and barely mentioning it. What do you think the voters will do in November 2022. If you and all the other conservative news sites don't keep it in the news daily, it will be long forgotten how Biden/Soros, and the three stooges at the Pentagon left our citizens and allies behind to be slaughtered by the Taliban.

    Come on Man!
