The Shutdown

December 23, 2018

Well, the government (or certain non-essential parts of it) is shut down after Senate Democrats refused to pass a temporary funding bill because it included $5.7 billion to build a security wall on our Southern border.  If you needed any explanation to make it clear why the government is shut down, here is a direct quote from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer:

"It will never pass the Senate, not today, not next week, not next year. So President Trump, if you want to open the government, you must abandon the wall, plain and simple."

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/schumer-demands-trump-abandon-the-wall-as-dc-faces-shutdown-stalemate

So in short, the government is shut down because Democrats absolutely, positively refuse to fund a border wall – something that Presidents and Congress members of both parties have repeatedly claimed to back for about 30 years, up until Trump actually wanted to keep their promise and now they’re outraged (it’s the “move our Embassy to Jerusalem” story all over again.)

Also to be clear, the Democrats’ argument that they oppose a border wall because it’s a waste of tax money is funnier than anything any poor cowed comedian has dared to say all year.  The last time Democrats were fully in charge of the federal budget, they went for years without even writing one, and gave us trillion-dollar-plus deficits for the first time in history.  As one analyst put it, $5.7 billion in a $4.22 trillion budget is a “rounding error.”  I’d say that to Democrats, it’s sofa cushion change.

The Democrats are trying to shift blame by claiming that “President Trump got what he wants: a government shutdown.”

Please!  Are they that stupid or do they assume we are?  They know what Trump wants, we know what Trump wants, and if there are people on Mars, they know what Trump wants: he wants a border wall!  He’s only been saying it for about three years now.  No, the truly shocking revelation here is on the Democratic side.  Mark this down for the history books:

ON DECEMBER 22, 2018, THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OFFICIALLY DECLARED PRESERVING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION TO BE MORE IMPORTANT TO THEM THAN GOVERNMENT.

As a kid growing up in Arkansas, I was surrounded by Democrats.  As a Governor, I had to deal with a heavily-Democratic legislature.  As a media figure, I’ve had to scrutinize, analyze and interview Democrats.  And through all that time, and the many changes in that party’s views, from electing former KKK leaders to insisting that men be allowed to use women’s toilets, one thing has remained constant: Democrats were the “Tax and Spend Party” of big government.  There was no aspect of life so personal or trivial that they thought it could not be improved by adding a big, stinking pile of government.

But on this date, that has officially changed.  They've now taken a stand to declare something more important to them than keeping the government open or spending money: protecting open borders and illegal immigration. They can deny it all they like, but you don’t abandon your wife of 50 years for your mistress unless you really prefer the mistress. Democrats would now prefer to see the government shut down than spend what to them is a pittance on a measure to increase border security that they have claimed to support for years when they never imagined they’d actually have to do it.

As for me, I am going to ponder this new political paradigm as I take time off to enjoy Christmas.  And I’m going to put on some Christmas music and ignore the liberal talking heads who are trying to convince us all to panic because non-essential government offices will be closed on Sunday, Christmas Eve and Christmas.  Really bad timing there for the Liberal Media Panic-Generating Machine.

The expression "shut down" is a joke. Congress passed a law that they had to finish a budget by a certain date, because they were notoriously lazy, sloppy, undisciplined and could never pass a budget. So they immediately carved out a way to ignore the law--the continuing resolution, which has been done to death. Now people see through the filthy smog of dirty deals and want a straightforward approach to the process. Shut downs scare the taxpayers much less than the closed door, sneaky manipulation of Congress' use of taxpayer dollars. Everyone says Trump is alone in the fight--but I say he has 63 million people standing with him.

Gov. Mike, I truly believe that God wants this nation to move forward in righteous ways of truth and justice. But it cannot do that if the likes of Schumer and Pelosi continue to strangle the American people and garotte the very people that pay their paychecks. This has got to stop! This power-mongering and egocentric elitism has to reach an end, and soon! Term limits have to happen, for the wall using the nuclear option whether they like it not, and every time we get this emotional cry-baby response from a bleeding heart snowflake, shove it right back down their throat. This is OUR country, and we have the right to run it without junk like they throw around. The silent and forgotten majority is going to wake up soon and they won't be whimpering "woke"!

I trust that when the storm is over, the treasonous fully exposed, dealt with and the sky clears once again for America, we can thankfully sing "God mend her every flaw... crown her good with brotherhood...confirm her soul in self control ... and liberty in law..." as the great patriotic hymn suggests. God bless America! God bless our President! God bless you for keeping truth!

I hope President Trump LEAVES all these non-essential government bureas closed. As the term "non-essential " implies, WE DONT NEED THEM! The money saved by their shutdown will quickly pay for the wall, which IS essential, therefore not causing any further deficit. I personally would like President Trump do a complete job by job, bureau by bureau cleaning of our bloated government. Of course that would raise unemployment temporarily as bureaucrats would be forced to get jobs that are not paid by taxpayers. Does anyone actually KNOW how many federal employees there are? I doubt it. But we taxpayers would survive just fine with 100,000 less of them and wouldn't even miss them. The resulting salaries, benefits, and retirement package for each federal employee is what is bankrupting this country. A federal employee's job is to benefit the taxpayers. That is not happening, but rather, the taxpayer is benefiting the federal employees. Mr. Trump needs to go on a firing spree. After all, federal employees "serve" at the pleasure of the President.

    Happy Holidays To You and Family, Gov. Huckabee;
If I had to write a comment, mine would be yours word for word. Hopefully we can vote out some of these "newly elected" Congress Members in 2020 (one in particular and we know who she is) and regain both our Houses again. I have a sticker that says: "You can't fix STUPID but you can VOTE it out ! " I've changed it to: You can't fix Stupid, but you still voted it back IN! " (Congress)

I think President Trump should run videos of Schumer, Obama, the Clintons, all of the Democrats talking about wanting border security and a border wall--until Trump said that he wants it. Now they say that it's a bad idea and too expensive! Every time they open their mouths to criticize Trump, videos should be played showing them up for the hypocrites that they are, not only about the border, but other issues too.
Sarah can do this too, when the media is being biased and rude (all of the time, now).

Will American's get this security? Only if WE really want it? Do we?
At the heart of the tremendous cultural change that we are seeing is lack of knowledge, understanding, and discernment.. So many simply no longer do not know the connection between our Creator and our government that is so amazingly described in our Declaration of Independence. Simply put, if it is wrong in the eyes of our Creator, it is not right, and it is not a right!

Knowledge and understanding of right and wrong is the very core of that first founding document of this Nation. And where do we get that knowledge and understanding? Hopefully from our spiritual leaders. Before we can be self - governing as a State, or a Nation, we have to be able to govern self.

The nauseating arrogance, smugness, and self-congratulations perpetually exhibited by Schumer (* NOT MY SENATOR!*) move me to grab the tv remote control and mute him and/or change channels. He believes he's *all that and a bag of chips* yet lacks even the tiniest stones to address the American electorate directly and instead aims his commentary at President Trump. What a big fat crock - who does he think he's kidding? We all know President Trump is President Trump BECAUSE WE, THE VOTERS, ELECTED HIM, and one of the main reasons for that was TO BUILD A BORDER WALL. So when Schumer's snotty little retorts are meant to slap the President's knuckles with his tiny ruler, he's actually kicking the American voters in the face. The sight of him or Pelosi makes me gag, also the unfortunate truth that there are other American voters who elected THEM. I will never understand that. God help us! Please?!

They are winning and it's not just the democrats. President Trump and the agenda I voted for is being stopped. Even the Fed is working to stop him regardless of the consequences to the nation. When will we fight back? Why should he compromise on the 5.7 for the wall. Yet the taxpayer can pay 2-3 times that amount to Mexico and Central America. We continue to fund PP. Not to mention the latest from the Supreme Court on immigration. There is no justice. Re Mueller Rosenstein and company. When are the real criminals going to see justice.

    Happy Holidays To You and Family, Gov. Huckabee;
I've been a "Huck Fan" for many years. Keep up the great work Governor . God Bless.
    Alex.

Please?!

Most people are visual, as Ross Perot knew well. Perhaps if someone (like you), were to prepare charts showing the cost of the wall relative to other govt programs — and separately— to the cost of the effects of drug use/rehab; care of illegals; crime, etc., that would resonate better than talking heads. The wall provides a superb ROI; we just need to convey it so.

It seems to me that President Trump could call for emergency funding from either the defense or homeland security budgets or both and begin building the Wall as a matter of National Security.
If the Dems begin to call for big spending on highways, bridges and other pet projects, tell them that will be considered only after the Wall was funded.
    Stick it to them.

Merry Christmas Gov. Huckabee, I watch your show every week wonderful insight and wisdom. The GoFundMe account is $4.3B and if the Dumbocrats said they will authorize $1.3B President Trump will have over $5B for the slats, wall barb wire and agents. It appears it would be a win-win. Is the GoFundMe Account for this project still waiting to be sent to Washington DC? Enjoy your Christmas holiday with family and friends. Praying for you, Sarah, President Trump and VP Mike Pence.

    Governor
They are winning and it's not just the democrats. President Trump and the agenda I voted for is being stopped. Even the Fed is working to stop him regardless of the consequences to the nation. When will we fight back? Why should he compromise on the 5.7 for the wall. Yet the taxpayer can pay 2-3 times that amount to Mexico and Central America. We continue to fund PP. Not to mention the latest from the Supreme Court on immigration. There is no justice. Re Mueller Rosenstein and company. When are the real criminals going to see justice. Is it even worth voting any more. Is this God's Will for this nation.

    Gov. Huckabee,
Isn't there some other way to solve this issue? We have become a nation of big talk, NO action. I feel like this is just another example of the gridlock we have seen for years.

    This is not leadership!!!
I really wish we had your leadership in DC. What is the answer? Obviously what we are doing is not working.

    The five minute solution:

    1. Call the Senate back into session on Christmas day
    2. Eliminate the 60 vote requirement
    3. Pass the "wall bill"
    4. Re-impose the 60 vote requirement
    5. Adjourn

Common people, it is time that we start to get behind our President, Donald J. Trump, he is working his tail off in our behalf, now it is our turn to start writing to our congressmen & women and tell them to support our President. When I was the age of President Trump, I never had half of his energy. He is doing this for us, the citizens of the United States of America. Start writing and calling out these politicians and while you are at it, send the President a thank you letter. Mike: Please include the Presidents address with this letter.
