THE EVENING EDITION By Mike Huckabee

Good evening! Here are some stories from me that I think you will want to read.

DAILY BIBLE VERSE

Today's Bible Verse was recommended by Terry S.

45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Luke 6:45 NKJV

THE LATEST NEWS

1. Speech crimes at Columbia:

Columbia University is encouraging students to rat out fellow students for speech crimes and wrongthink. I hope they will instead tell the administrators exactly what they honestly think of them.

2. Nothing funny about this:

Let me preface this by saying that nobody has greater respect for the wisdom and experience of senior citizens than I do. And I have known people who remained mentally sharp as a tack even after passing the century mark. But President and House Speaker are two of the most powerful, important and stressful jobs on Earth, and they’re currently occupied by people who are 78 and 81 respectively, and who sound like this when they try to speak in public:

https://www.westernjournal.com/watch-biden-gives-speech-bad-tons-people-wondering-going/

https://www.westernjournal.com/watch-pelosi-suffers-extreme-54-second-cognitive-failure-live-tv/

Pelosi, at least, was mouthing her word salad extemporaneously, while Biden was supposedly reading off a teleprompter.

Biden also recounted a story about a visit to Israel during a Hanukkah ceremony that some media outlets claimed was full of lies, but it seems more likely it was just full of faulty memories.

https://www.westernjournal.com/watch-biden-insults-jews-menorah-lighting-tells-big-lie-israel/

I assure you I am not mocking them, because there’s nothing funny about this. Americans need to believe that the people making decisions that affect their lives and their children’s futures are mentally capable of handling those jobs. But many currently don’t. A recent Politico/Morning Consult poll found that 48% of Americans think Biden is mentally unfit to be President, while only 46% believe he is. That’s a 23-point negative shift since October, 2020.

https://www.westernjournal.com/poll-voters-say-biden-not-mentally-fit-potus-not-good-health/

I have a separate commentary in the newsletter today (see below) on Miranda Divine’s new book on Hunter Biden’s laptop, about the corruption it reveals, but it also reveals something else that’s equally worrying: as far back as 2019, Hunter was joking with his therapist (who’s since had his license revoked) about his dad’s dementia. For instance, saying he doesn’t need to remember where he lives because that’s one of the few things the Secret Service gets right. Again, not funny.

A number of Biden’s former colleagues are alarmed by what they’re seeing and calling for him to take a cognitive test. That includes Rep. Ronny Jackson, a former White House doctor. It’s easy to dismiss such questions after four years of hearing quack psychologists on liberal media outlets declare Donald Trump mentally unfit without having even met him. But when Biden’s own colleagues and family members are expressing concerns, refusing to take the test is only going to ramp up those concerns. What is the White House staff more afraid of? That Biden might not pass, or that if he doesn’t, it would mean President Kamala Harris? Nobody wants to see that, not even her own staffers.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/ari-j-kaufman/2021/12/02/top-harris-aide-the-latest-to-flee-sinking-ship-n1538226

As for Pelosi, I’m not as concerned, since I hope and pray that after next November, she will be enjoying a long forced retirement.

3. LAPTOP FROM HELL: Biden "family business" exposed

Yesterday, we brought you the story of “journalists” at the Washington Post and The New York Times spending years chasing a concocted story about Trump “colluding” with Russia during his 2016 campaign and winning a Pulitzer Prize for their efforts. They helped spark an anti-Trump media feeding frenzy that had credulous “reporters” falling all over themselves to cover the fake story. (And, yes, they SHOULD be made to give their Pulitzer back.) Today, let’s use that story to set the scene for another, contrasting one: the utter lack of attention given by most of the media to Hunter Biden’s laptop story –- augmented by Big Tech’s censorship of it –- and what the laptop actually reveals about Hunter’s family of grifters and influence peddlers.

Miranda Devine of The New York Post has wisely spent her time chasing a REAL story, not the fake one that obsessed most of the media, and her new book has just hit the stands. It’s called “LAPTOP FROM HELL: Hunter Biden, Big Tech, and the Dirty Secrets the President Tried to Hide.”

https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Laptop-from-Hell/Miranda-Devine/9781637581056

The title LAPTOP FROM HELL comes from a typically colorful remark made by Trump. “Joe, they’re calling you a corrupt politician,” Trump said in the last debate before the election. “Take a look at the laptop from hell.”

You know the basic story of how an apparently dazed and confused Hunter left his laptop at a computer repair shop in Delaware in the spring of 2019, only a few days before his father announced he was running for President, and how the FBI ended up with it in what I like to call “protective custody” (they were protecting Joe). Not only is it filled with video evidence of grotesque debauchery, but it also shows how Hunter and the family sold access to his powerful dad. In her book, Devine clarifies exactly what is on the laptop, what it tells about President Biden and the whole Biden family, and what China knows.

The publisher, Simon & Schuster, describes her book as “a treasure trove of corporate documents, emails, text messages, photographs, and voice recordings, spanning a decade, [providing] the first evidence that President Joe Biden was involved in his son’s ventures in China, Ukraine, and beyond, despite his repeated denials.”

Just as importantly, “it exposes the coordinated censorship operation by Big Tech, the media establishment, and former intelligence operatives to stifle the New York Post’s coverage, in a chilling exercise of raw political power three weeks before the 2020 election.” Recall that as the election loomed, Facebook and Twitter censored the breaking NYP laptop story, ensuring that most voters wouldn’t know about the Biden “family business” when they cast their ballots. The online reach of the NYP is 80 million! Social media essentially used their control of the news to interfere with the election. They wanted to shape the outcome, and they did.

(Note: incidentally, another new book that ties Big Tech to the election outcome is Mollie Hemingway’s RIGGED. There’s some good holiday reading material available right now!)

Recall also that when House Democrats were impeaching President Trump for allegedly even mentioning an investigation of the Bidens in a phone call to the president of Ukraine –- a fake whistleblower report turned this into something it wasn’t; fortunately, there was a transcript –- the laptop would have contained evidence showing this corruption was real. But the FBI kept quiet.

Senior intelligence officials covered it up, too. Just five days after the NYP published its first Hunter story, then-CIA Director John Brennan and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper led 50 former intel officials in signing an open letter, published in Politico, saying the material on the laptop had “all the earmarks of a Russian information operation.” This was made up --- they apparently hadn't even seen it.

Now, more than a year after Devine published her first stories about the laptop, she has a new commentary in the NYP that times nicely with the release of her book. She notes that many of those who voted for Biden are disenchanted now, as he has turned out to be a very different person from the man they though they were voting for.

https://nypost.com/2021/11/28/media-helped-hide-the-real-joe-biden-by-censoring-hunter-stories-devine/

This, she says, is the fault of the media, for denying them the “normal due diligence” they expect the media to conduct on presidential candidates. That’s an understatement; in their censorship of the story, they went beyond lack of due diligence to outright deception.

According to the Media Research Center, about half of all those who voted for Biden in 2020 didn't know anything about Hunter’s laptop scandal. And almost 10 percent said they wouldn’t have voted for Biden if they’d known of this corruption. I’d venture to say that once all the sordid details are out, that figure will be much higher than 10 percent. This is grift on a massive, global scale.

We know the media would have conducted an overabundance of due diligence on Trump and HIS family if there had been even a whiff of such scandal. Can you imagine the relentless, merciless coverage they would've given even the tiniest hint of scandal about Trump’s offspring? (On the other hand, it’s hard to imagine even a hypothetical story of corruption about such a devoted, hard-working family as Trump’s.) As it was, they tried to say the Trump family had gotten into politics to enrich themselves, when that wasn’t at all true. But this is the media’s power: not only can they make stuff up about a candidate they don’t support, but they can also look the other way for a candidate or party they do support. In 2020, they were doing both.

The NYP editorial board has a piece on the laptop story as well: “Sorry, but Hunter’s profiteering matters --- even if the rest of the press ignores it.” They point out that the Chinese had insinuated themselves into Hunter’s life enough to bestow upon him a three-carat diamond, which he later told the New Yorker he thought of as simply “a nice gesture.” And they quickly sum up why we should infer from what’s on the laptop that Joe Biden was “the big guy” who got 10 percent of the proceeds.

https://nypost.com/2021/11/28/hunter-bidens-profiteering-matters-even-if-the-rest-of-the-press-ignore-it/

It appears that the Chinese were paying Joe Biden millions through his son, the editors say. But when they try to ask the administration about this, it ignores them, “knowing that CNN, the Washington Post, the New York Times, et al., have its back and will never press things.” The NYP editors suggest that if Biden wants millions more for IRS enforcement, this should include an audit of his own income and a determination of whether he had declared as income the money Hunter passed along to him. (They actually did share a bank account.) I’d go for that.

Finally, Rabbi Dov Fischer at The American Spectator has a great piece about the mutually profitable relationship between the Bidens and China. China evidently got its money’s worth from Hunter and his connections when his dad was VP. One might even say the Bidens' business exploits put the “vice” in “Vice President.”

4. Strong Disapproval:

The latest Trafalgar poll finds that President Biden’s disapproval rating is not only rising, it’s getting even more passionate. His approval rating is 36%, and his disapproval rating is 59%. But of that 59%, only 7% merely “disapprove,” while a staggering 52.2% “strongly disapprove.” Even among Democrats, 6.3% disapprove and 24.7% “strongly disapprove,” which means nearly a third of his own party disapproves of how he’s doing his job.

https://hotair.com/ed-morrissey/2021/12/02/free-falling-a-quarter-of-dems-strongly-disapprove-of-biden-performance-in-new-poll-n432672

With Biden looking less like a lame duck than a quadruple amputee turkey, and Kamala Harris about as popular as pickled herring on pizza, Democrats are hunting desperately for someone to top their 2024 Presidential ticket.

What else other than desperation could explain the sudden flurry of “excitement” over running Pete Buttigieg, who would be even more hopelessly unqualified for the White House than he is for his current job as Transportation Secretary, where he let the supply chain crisis worsen while he took two months off for parental leave, apparently without telling anyone (and without anyone even noticing.) But he checks off the “gay” identity box, and the media love him, so some bubble-dwelling Democrats actually think he could be their savior in 2024. Yes, that’s actually how shallow the Democrats’ talent pool is.

https://pjmedia.com/columns/stephen-kruiser/2021/12/03/the-morning-briefing-lol-democrats-think-mayor-pete-is-their-great-white-hope-n1538486

At the link, Stephen Kruiser of PJ Media has some trenchant and hilarious analysis of that delusion, and why Republicans should definitely encourage it. But we’d also have to be even more vigilant about preventing election fraud, because if anyone could make Americans nostalgic for the Biden Presidency, it’s Pete Buttigieg.

5.  Fake news alert:

Liberal media outlets went ballistic over a claim allegedly in former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows' forthcoming book that President Trump had COVID when he debated Joe Biden and might have been spreading it to many people. Trump denied the claim and Meadows himself said the comment was taken out of context. He said Trump had a false positive test followed by two negative tests, and he did not have COVID.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/matt-margolis/2021/12/02/fake-news-no-trump-didnt-have-covid-before-his-debate-with-biden-n1538333

Now, when are we going to develop a vaccine for Trump Derangement Syndrome?

6. Congratulations again:

Congratulations to staff writer Laura Ainsworth! Her other job is that she’s a terrific retro jazz singer with three award-winning CDs and a best-of LP to her credit. Recently, a deluxe, expanded CD version of her best-of LP called “Top Shelf” was released in Japan. This rave review by Downbeat contributor Eric Harabadian has been the most-viewed review on this music site for four straight weeks (going for the record of six weeks), and has just been named the most-viewed review of the month of November.

Please check it out and share it. You can find all of Laura’s music at https://shop.bandwear.com/collections/laura-ainsworth-shop

And learn more about her at www.lauraainsworth.com where you can see a clip of her on “Huckabee” and learn why Eric Harabadian said, “You’re in for a real treat. Laura Ainsworth is one of the most talented and entertaining vocalists – of any genre or era – on the music scene today!”

7. Facebook rolls back Rittenhouse restrictions:

Well, this is mighty sporting of them! Facebook has rolled back the restrictions it placed on search results related to Kyle Rittenhouse.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/rick-moran/2021/12/02/facebook-reverses-ban-on-rittenhouse-searches-n1538361

Facebook magnanimously will no longer block search results containing praise or support for Rittenhouse, although they will block anything that “celebrates” the deaths of the people he shot. I guess we’re supposed to be grateful that they’re finally allowing a limited version of “free speech.” But that brushes aside the main point: everyone is supposed to have a presumption of innocence. But before he was acquitted, Facebook described what he did as “mass murder” and allowed neutral and negative comments about him to be posted. Or as that used to be known, defamation and tainting the jury pool.

As Sen. Josh Hawley put it, Facebook made up their minds that he was guilty long before the trial, denied him the presumption of innocence, and censored anyone who disagreed. I guess we’re supposed to thank them for lifting that censorship now that he’s been acquitted. But what good does it do to stop defaming a defendant only after he’s been acquitted? I can think of few examples of a more yawning gap between a media outlet’s massive influence and its microscopic sense of responsibility.

And before anyone objects that I’m being partisan, I’ll remind you that I’ve defended everyone’s basic right to the presumption of innocence, even Andrew Cuomo. Kurt Schlichter (who is a lawyer as well as a writer) explains why conservatives have to insist on due process even for the “alleged” Kenosha parade mass murderer:

https://townhall.com/columnists/kurtschlichter/2021/11/29/give-leftist-thugs-all-the-due-process-they-can-handle-n2599709

The “justice” system has become so corrupted by leftist politics recently that we must stand up for the due process rights of even the most obviously guilty scumball because, as Schlichter says, courtrooms have to be places where the truth comes out, fair and square. We have to protect even the worst criminals from mob rule because we’re also protecting ourselves from it.

“Mayor Pete’s” most significant accomplishment before this was as the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana. If South Bend was in Texas, it would be the 40th largest city. Not really sure that is a good qualification for where he is at, much less where he wants to go.
