Evening Edition - July 27

July 27, 2019

Having had their dead impeachment horse decompose on national TV this week, you’d think the Democrats might want to give up and move on to, oh, I don’t know…maybe legislating?  But you would be wrong.

Rep. Jerry Nadler announced that his House Judiciary Committee is, in effect, launching an official impeachment probe, and they’re “going to court” to try to get Trump’s personal tax records, personal email and text messages of his daughter, son-in-law and other staffers, and basically any dirt they can possibly root through looking for any grounds for the impeachment they’ve been demanding since Election night (I hope that if he roots through Ivana’s garbage, he can restrain himself from licking her discarded ice cream wrappers.)

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/breaking-house-dems-announce-impeachment-investigation/

For the record, this is not the way impeachment is supposed to work.  A President commits “high crimes and misdemeanors” first, and then the House considers impeachment hearings.  You don’t schedule the impeachment, then go on a scavenger hunt for grounds.

Over the next six weeks, Congress will be out of session, and most members will be home, talking (and hopefully, listening) to their constituents.  Republicans will be able to point to a booming economy, record low unemployment, rising wages and their attempts to deal with border security (recent polls show immigration – more accurately, illegal immigration – is the #1 concern of voters.)

What accomplishments will Democrats point to?  Their crazy far-left wing is furious that they haven’t impeached Trump yet for no reason, while the remaining sensible Democrats will ask why they’ve wasted their first seven months back in power doing nothing but trying to impeach the President (and defending the divisive, socialist, anti-Semitic, anti-American rhetoric of their most radical members.)

I don’t want to give them any advice that might help them win reelection, but how hard is it to figure out that maybe they should be concentrating more on legislation and trying to help Americans than on trying to unseat their political opponent without going to the trouble of actually winning an election?

-----------------------------

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 along the ideological divide (that in itself is another Trump win) to overrule lower courts’ blocks on Trump using $2.5 billion in Pentagon funds for border wall construction after declaring a national emergency.  Let’s hope this represents not only a step toward serious border security enforcement, but also a long-overdue reining in of activist liberal federal judges who seem to think they have more power than the President over dealing with immigration and determining national emergencies.  There’s a reason why the writers of the Constitution placed the power to take swift action to deal with a national emergency into the hands of a single chief executive elected by the entire nation and not into the wheelhouse of 535 endlessly-bickering legislators or an untold number of power-drunk federal judges.

Democrats are screaming in fury (honestly, when are they not these days?)  Some claim the Court is letting Trump spend the money on a “phony emergency” at the border.  Oh, is it a “phony emergency” again?  For a long time, it was a phony emergency, or more popularly, a “manufactured crisis.”  Then when it became so obviously out of control that even the New York Times had to admit it was a crisis, it became useful to call it a real emergency so that Trump could be slammed as cruel for the way the hordes of illegal border crossers were being treated.  Now that Trump has won his court battle to exercise his power to deal with it, I guess it’s “phony” again.  Funny how the objective reality of the crisis changes, depending on what would be the most politically useful narrative for the Democrats.

And of course, they’re also accusing Trump of using executive orders to try to get around Congress.  Again, remind me: is that bad now?  Because when Obama did it, it was “bold, necessary action” and an example of real leadership.

Someone needs to issue daily online bulletins to help us all keep up with the constant shifts in the left’s standards of morality.

May I digress for a minute to ask you a question, please.
Since we may no longer use picture IDs (namely driver's licenses) to prove citizenship , how are we going to guarantee the integrity of our next election ? Will we require a birth certificate or a passport ?I look forward to your opinion.
    Thank you.

I thought that Legislators were chosen to legislate, not spend all their time investigating, commentating and adjudicating. No matter little gets done in Washington DC.

    Governor Huckabee,
I know you didn’t cover this in today’s newsletter but I’m so frustrated just needed a place to vent.
This morning President Trump put out some tweets about Elija Cummings district explaining conditions there. Right away Nancy Pelosi and others accused him of being racist...again. Does this mean if a person is black nothing critical can be mentioned about that person? If he made same comments about a white politician the headlines would not read, President Trump criticizes a white mans district. To me all those calling President Trump a racist are the true racists for turning everything into something about a persons color instead of taking it as face value being about the situation. As with the “squad” what the President said had nothing to do with their skin color but their policies and ideas.
Another thing I’d like to know is where is the outrage when these people (and others) say HORRIBLE things about our President! They are cheered on, never condemned.
I pray that the Presidents critics will start to see how he is being unduly treated and their eyes will be opened to the GREAT things he has accomplished!
Thank you for all you do!
Hope Sarah is having some well deserved family time. She is one in a million!
