Biden Debates Biden

After trashing the Trump tax cuts and falsely claiming they added $2 trillion to the deficit and mostly helped the rich and big corporations, President Biden boasted, “[W]e have generated a GDP growth of 5.7 percent, the best economic growth we’ve seen in this country in over 40 years. This has led to a substantial increase in government revenues and dramatically improved our fiscal situation.”

https://www.westernjournal.com/biden-unintentionally-concedes-trump-tax-cuts-working-treasury-sees-record-revenues/

So he’s claiming that under those lower tax rates, there was strong economic growth which resulted in more tax revenues to the government despite lower rates. So Biden not only proved Trump’s point, he just admitted that Reaganomics works.

Progressives: Don’t call me progressive

Here’s a news story so predictable that I first wrote about it years ago and have referenced it numerous times since. It seems that so-called “progressives” don’t want to be called “progressives” anymore because their crazy, failed policies have tainted the term and made it toxic to voters.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/rick-moran/2022/03/30/many-progressives-no-longer-want-to-be-known-as-progressive-n1585533

The only difference is that back when I first wrote about this, leftists were trying to ditch the label “liberal,” which their failed, crazy policies had made toxic, and insisting on being called “progressives.” They’re like nomadic tribes that stay in a place and trash it until they’ve made it unlivable, then move on to a clean new place and befoul that.

It never seems to occur to them: the problem is NOT the name! It’s the policies. You could put a grape jelly label on a jar of arsenic, and it would still be arsenic.

With the left becoming crazier by the day, it was only a matter of time before “progressive” became so befouled in the public’s mind that it actually made “liberal” start to sound good. That time is now (notice how “liberal” Bill Maher suddenly sounds like the voice of reason.) So with the November elections looming like Armageddon, they’re suddenly crying, “Don’t call me a ‘progressive!’”

Problem is, what CAN you call them? I’m sure you have some suggestions, but I don’t use language like that. “Democratic socialist” likely won’t improve their electoral chances. I still think the most accurate is the name I’ve repeatedly suggested: “regressives.” It’s perfect for people who keep sifting through the ash heap of history to revive policies that have proven to be tragic failures for over a hundred years.

But in choosing a new name, accuracy is not their friend. So some of them are trying on the moniker of “populists” from a “people-powered” movement. That worked for Trump, but Trump actually meant it; while their movement is built around big government bullying “the people,” and the people are smart enough to see that.

As Rick Moran points out at the linked story, it’s interesting that through all this constant rebranding of the left, nobody’s ever felt the need to come up with a new name for “conservative.” When you’re selling a product that works, you don’t have to keep changing its name.

Who’d A-Thunk It?

It seems that President Biden’s plan to “save the planet” by killing America’s oil and gas industries while begging nations that don’t like us to pump more and dirtier oil and selling it to us has a flaw in it. OPEC and its allies (including Russia) decided Thursday to reject Biden’s request to increase oil production.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/economy/opec-refuses-increase-oil-output-us-release-reserves

Well, in that case, there’s nothing else that Biden can do, except…try to artificially bring down gas prices before the elections by releasing a record 180 million barrels of oil from America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve at a time when Russia is threatening nuclear war. What could possibly go wrong? Funny you should ask. Here are some thoughts on that…

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/spencerbrown/2022/03/31/experts-sound-off-bidens-plan-to-release-strategic-oil-wont-fix-gas-prices-n2605332

And some more…

Shocked I tell you, shocked

Democrats love to bloviate about how bad gerrymandering is…when Republicans do it. When they do it, it’s called “defending democracy.” Which is why they’re so shocked by a new court ruling.

https://redstate.com/bonchie/2022/03/31/shocking-turn-of-events-in-new-york-redistricting-lawsuit-n543569

Despite the mostly Democrat-controlled court system, the state Supreme Court ruled in favor of Republicans in their lawsuit and struck down all three of the Democrat legislature’s voting district maps as illegal gerrymanders. They now have only 12 days to redraw the map and submit it to the court.

The real mystery is why anyone would think the maps wouldn’t be found to be obviously gerrymandered. As noted in the story, Democrats make up about 60% of New York voters, but they’d drawn a map that had 22 Democrat districts and only 4 Republican. It will likely go to 19-7 now.

If it were really fair and proportional, it should be at most 16 Democrat to 10 Republican districts. But even the loss of two or three seats could spell a big difference with the Democrats’ House majority so razor thin. Of course, let’s hope that after November, that will no longer be a problem we’ll need to be concerned with.

Hollywood in a nutshell

A TV host who’s paid $6 million a year to give her opinions for an hour a day became incensed at the suggestion that she's part of an “elite” and not just a regular working person.

https://www.westernjournal.com/whoopi-goldberg-erupts-view-co-host-criticized-hollywood-elites/

Full disclosure: I know and like her, but come on, Whoopi. It’s not factory work.

Great Moments In Lack Of Self-Awareness

As one of the wealthiest and most powerful far-left Democrats in Washington, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed shock at the staggering cost of gasoline in her home state of California, saying, “You think, ‘How could this be?’” (Funny, I ask the same question every time I see Nancy Pelosi in the role of House Speaker.)

https://www.westernjournal.com/nancy-pelosi-expresses-shock-california-gas-prices/

She then went on to prove that she hasn’t a clue how it could be by trying to blame it on Vladimir Putin. Nor does she understand the huge burden it’s put on non-wealthy working Americans, which she proved by saying, “We cannot allow the fossil fuel industry to use this as an excuse to reverse everything we’re doing to save the planet.”

Translation: We’re not actually using less fuel, we’re just paying a lot more for it; but we can’t let the American oil and gas industry produce more fuel and bring gas prices down. To “save the planet,” we need to import dirtier, higher-priced fuel from nations that hate us and will use it as leverage against us. And if it bankrupts working people, well, that’s a price Nancy is willing to pay.

In a related story, the planet Earth released an open letter to Nancy Pelosi and President Biden, reading, “Please stop trying to help me.”

Down in flames

Another Biden nominee has gone down in flames in the Senate for being too far left and anti-business. Brandeis University dean David Weil was nominated to head the Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division. But he was defeated by 53-47 when Democrat Sens. Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly joined Republicans in voting no.

https://nypost.com/2022/03/31/biden-labor-department-nominee-david-weil-defeated-in-senate/

Business groups opposed Weil, saying he was an advocate of regulations that would kill small businesses and contract workers. Biden is doing a good enough job of that on his own.

Biden okays Gender X

President Biden observed "Transgender Day of Visibility" by not only endorsing puberty-blocking hormones and irreversible surgery for gender-confused minors…

https://redstate.com/bonchie/2022/04/01/biden-administration-decides-mutilating-children-is-a-civil-right-n543775

…but also announcing that starting on April 11th, Americans will be given a third “X” gender option to check on passport forms. And no, this was on Thursday, not April Fool’s Day.

https://www.westernjournal.com/biden-admin-celebrates-transgender-day-visibility-announcing-gender-neutral-passports/

A number of critics pointed out that passports are supposed to be tools to identify people, not to let them hide their physical characteristics to feel good about themselves. But they’re just old sticks in the mud. However, those “X” passport holders might wish they’d just checked “F” or “M” if they try to use those passports to get into nations in Africa or the Middle East, like Iran.

I’m not sure why Biden is pandering so furiously to the trans branch of the LGBTQ demographic, other than it’s probably the only voting bloc for which a majority still supports him. I know that like all good leftists, he firmly believes that his point of view is the only one that has any validity; but if he ever wants to hear the other side of this story, there’s a website I suggest he visit:

Cesar Chavez Day

President Biden issued a proclamation declaring March 31 to be Cesar Chavez Day, after the late labor leader, and urged Congress to pass laws honoring Chavez’s legacy.

https://www.valleycentral.com/news/local-news/biden-urges-congress-to-pass-bills-honoring-cesar-chavez/

I’m down with that. They can start by passing laws to end illegal immigration, which Chavez hated because it said it took jobs away from American union workers and depressed their wages.

Even CNN doesn’t bite on this

We told you a couple of months ago that the alleged “7-hour gap” in White House phone records of President Trump on January 6, 2021, which was being touted as proof of Trump covering up his organizing of insurrection, was nonsense. It was just because he tends to use cell phones borrowed from his staffers instead of the office line.

Last week, House Democrats tried to reinflate that dead story into another “We got him this time!” revelation, and it briefly inflamed TDS sufferers on Twitter. Once again, I explained what it really was.

Well, it appears the frenzy has already fizzled out. This alleged scandal was so bogus that even CNN has admitted it’s a nothing burger. And an anti-Trump hoax must be pretty thin stuff if you can’t even get CNN to believe it.

https://beckernews.com/cnn-confirms-trump-phone-call-gap-of-missing-7-hours-on-jan-6-turns-out-to-be-a-hoax-44628/

Speaking of CNN, it appears that their new subscription streaming service, CNN+, is already struggling to survive. Who would’ve guessed that charging people money for something they weren’t watching for free would be a bad business model?

News You Should Know

Nashville Tragedy

Monday was a tragic day in many regards. I hope you will join me in praying for the victims of the horrific shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville and their families, and for the unnamed staffer of Sen. Rand Paul who was brutally stabbed Saturday in Washington, DC. (More about that story below.)  The horror at the Christian school in Nashville began when a 28-year-old woman who was a former student there shot her way into the school, carrying two rifles and a pistol, and killed three children and three adults before police confronted and killed her. We’re still waiting for police to release more details, but early reports are that the shooter was a “trans” person, which made the police press conference incredibly confusing. With the police spokesman’s attempts to avoid being un-PC, getting actual details about the shooter was like pulling teeth, but it appears that it was a woman who “identifies” as a man. She (sorry if that’s “misgendering” a mass murderer, but I don’t care) reportedly left behind a “manifesto” and social media posts calling for rage and violence against opponents of “gender transitioning” of children.

DC Crime: Rand Paul Senate Staffer Stabbed

Sen. Rand Paul announced that an unnamed staffer of his had been brutally stabbed multiple times in broad daylight in Washington, DC, while leaving a restaurant. The injuries were reportedly life-threatening, but the staffer is currently hospitalized and Paul thanked the first responders and hospital staff. He asked everyone to join him and his wife in praying for a “speedy and complete recovery. Police have a suspect in custody who told them that “voices in his head” told him to do this. He was also reportedly released from prison just one day before, after serving 12 years for violent crimes. A reminder: The DC City Council recently tried to make it even easier for criminals to be let out and returned to the streets, but Congress blocked that move. President Biden planned to veto it, but he ultimately angered so-called “progressives” (actually, “pro-criminals” would be a more accurate term) by signing it. I don’t know if the assault on a female Democrat Congress member in a DC elevator changed his mind; but that and this latest attack show how dangerous our nation’s Capital has become under far-left rule, and that Democrat politicians can actually start thinking rationally when they have to face the daily dangers they impose on others.

The Left Is Winning

A new Wall Street Journal/NORC poll sadly confirms what many of us deduced just from reading the news lately: the left has been shockingly successful in destroying faith in long-standing American values among young people. Compared to a poll that asked the same questions 25 years ago, only 38% of Americans say that patriotism is “very important” to them, compared to 70% in 1998. Those who say religion is very important to them dropped from 62% to 39%. The percentage who said raising children is very important fell from 59% to 30%. And the number who place high importance on community involvement plummeted from 62% to 27%. Disturbingly, the only value that rose in high importance was “money,” up from 31% to 43%. When broken down demographically, it’s clear that the steepest erosion in the belief in traditional American values is among Democrats and young people. It’s yet more proof that the biggest mistake made by Republicans in the past half century was allowing the left to infiltrate and take over our schools.

The spiritual side of our lives really does matter

When I was growing up, my bedtime ritual always included a fairy tale that started with “Once upon a time...” and ended with the comforting words we all remember: “And they lived happily ever after.” As a child of the optimistic 1950s, I dreamed that life might be like that: whatever obstacles, dangers or perils might come my way, in the end, I would live happily ever after.

Why Art and Music Are Essential in Schools

Aside from letting leftist indoctrination take over our public school system, the biggest mistake we conservatives made in education over the years was in thinking that art and music classes were expendable luxuries and should be slashed to concentrate on “the three ‘R’s.” Not only are art and music classes important in themselves, but they are also beneficial to helping students excel in other subjects, including math and reading.

A blank book of pages

The first school in which we enroll, and the most important in shaping our future, is our home. A casual view of modern TV shows might lead us to believe that parents don’t matter. I contend that nothing matters more. When Benjamin West was a boy, his mother left him in charge of his younger sister, Sally. Benjamin found bottles of colored ink and painted Sally’s portrait.

How to prevent young people from falling prey to socialism

I got a comment from a reader arguing that one reason young people fall prey to socialism (aside from being brainwashed by their teachers) is that they feel the capitalist system is failing them. They were told they had to get college degrees if they wanted good jobs, and encouraged to take out huge student loans. Now, they’re saddled with crippling debt, and those degrees aren’t opening the doors to jobs that pay enough to ever get out of the hole.
