California is getting a hard lesson in the Constitution’s supremacy clause, which states that when state laws and state constitutions conflict with the federal laws and Constitution, federal law prevails. So despite California’s leftist leaders declaring it a “sanctuary state” and refusing to cooperate with federal immigration authorities to deport criminal illegal immigrants, the feds are rounding them up anyway.

Over the past week, ICE launched a sweep of Los Angeles that targeted 122 businesses and arrested 212 illegals. It follows similar raids up north, in San Jose and San Francisco. In all, over 500 people have been arrested, without any help from local authorities. ICE released a statement that 90% of the arrestees have prior criminal convictions, to make it clear that they are targeting known criminals who were being shielded and allowed to walk around free by state and local governments.

However, as if to rub California leaders’ noses in it, they noted that since local authorities won’t cooperate by handing over known criminals for deportation, they have no choice but to make blanket sweeps like this, “increasing the incidents of collateral arrests.” In other words, illegal immigrants who don’t have criminal records are now getting caught in the raids. The “sanctuary” policy is making it more likely, not less likely, that illegals who aren’t convicted criminals will also get arrested and deported.

I don’t think that was what California liberals envisioned when they tried defying the federal government. But then, they should have dusted off a history book and read about the Civil War, if they wanted to know how that plan was going to end.

ICE also just released a report that blows away one of the favored narratives on the left, that illegal immigrants are more law-abiding than the average American. It reports that 90% of the illegals rounded up by ICE in fiscal year 2017 either had criminal records or criminal charges pending against them. And here’s another narrative buster: the number of illegals arrested in 2017 was about half as many as in Obama’s first year, and at that time, 61% of the arrestees were non-criminals.

One thing wasn’t surprising, though: it was far more likely that an arrestee in a California sanctuary city would have a criminal record than an illegal arrested in New Jersey. But for the record, New Jersey has a new Democratic Governor, Phil Murphy, who wants to make New Jersey a sanctuary state, so that could help even out the unfair distribution of criminals.

    As a 5th generation, tax paying Californian, I have the benefit of living much of the year in the more sane state of AZ. I am grateful to ICE and to Trump's effort to regain our borders, and to you for keeping an eye on CA's plight. At the moment our traditional and conservative voices are drowned out by the CA left, with applause from the left residing elsewhere. But I have hope that CA citizens of both parties will reclaim the well being of the state, and will stand with politicians willing to make significant change. At the very least, CA needs to address the fear factor and the filth that comes with walking many of our city streets.

    Good on ICE!! Trump's threats of withdrawing ICE agents from CA is definitely NOT the way to go! Not all
    Californians want ICE gone - some of us like having them around.

    i have trouble understanding how all of the illegals aren't considered criminals, since they're are breaking the law by being here illegally. Since Obama moved so many into Texas at the end of his terms, we are seeing increased theft in stores, as well as out in the country where I live. Trash is dumped on any roads that don't have a lot of traffic. A piece of land is purchased (or in some cases just claimed), then there are old mobile homes, sheds, and even tents are used, and numerous families move in together on a small acreage. Third world living! I sometimes feel badly about feeling this way, making sure to stay in Gods Word, and treat these people with love, but God says to obey the law of the land, being illegal is breaking the law.

    *** The 2020 Demoncrat Victory No One Sees Coming. ***
    Demoncrats import max number of illegals and pack them into Demoncrat districts, even if it makes the places into centers of poverty. Why? Because in 2020, the Census is coming. The Census counts *People, not Voters!* If the Demoncrats can cram an estimated 10-12 MILLION illegals into their areas and states, how many more seats in Congress do they get?? This massive freight train is headed right for us full speed, and nobody sees it coming.

    Good! ICE needs to keep it up. I'm a Californian who is tired of our politicians harboring criminals whether they're legal or not. They could instead focus on helping immigrants become citizens but apparently that's too far fetched of an idea for them.

    The biggest criminal in all this, is Jerry Brown; they need to send in the Feds to the State House and take him away in cuffs (or perhaps a straight jacket).

    It's very important that ICE stays in California and continues their full court press against the illegals. Frankly, the threat to pull them out is probably a bluff, but his top priority is to keep Americans safe. That would be hard to do without ICE. If they pull out and we are faced with another Kate Steinle scenario, all hell would break loose.

    Mike;
    As a 3rd generation Californian, and someone who is over 65, I remember the state when it was truly the "Golden State".
    I hope and pray that the ICE folks keep up their raids, and even come out to the rural areas where we have entire townships that are primarily illegals. Look to places like Pacoima, Van Nuys, Santa Ana, and yes....Los Angeles, which by the last report I heard from the feds...has over 300, 000 ILLEGAL ALIENS !! That was the Feds own count, and now with the liberal jack wagons running the asylum in L.A., there is going to be a sanctuary city declaration made. Many of us propose that the entire state be investigated, and the leaders of the insanity be arrested, and tried for treasonous behavior. I note that Gov. Brown, Asst Gov. Newsome, and Atty Gen. Kamala Harris are ALL complicit in the illegals, and anti American plot to subvert the Federal power here.
