Judge Roy Moore's response

November 10, 2017 |

Alabama GOP Senate candidate and former Judge Roy Moore has issued a response to an article in the Washington Post, accusing him of having sexual contact with a then-14-year-old girl, 38 years ago when he was 32. The woman never filed a police report or made any public accusations against Moore in any of his previous campaigns. The paper cited claims by other women that Moore asked them out or kissed them back in the 1970s when they were age 16 to 18, but the age of consent was 16. Moore flatly denies the Washington Post article, calling it “completely false and a desperate political attack.” If so, it would not be the first time WaPo has published false or misleading hit pieces on Moore.

President Trump and a number of top Republicans called on Moore to drop out of the race if there’s any truth to the allegations. That would leave the GOP in a bad spot, since their Senate majority is razor-thin now, and the law says it’s too late to change the ballot. Democrats would likely fight a lawsuit to change the ballot, even though they did the same thing to keep a seat in New Jersey when one of their elderly incumbents died near Election Day.

Full disclosure: I endorsed Judge Moore, because I believe we need more people in Washington who are willing to stand up to the do-nothing, go-along establishment and not betray conservative principles or their constituents. Nevertheless, if this accusation is true, then it is disturbing and unacceptable, and I agree that he should step down.

However, in America, one of our bedrock principles is the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. In the wake of recent Obama college directives and the wave of accusations in the media following the Harvey Weinstein scandal, the right to due process regarding sexual conduct has been thrown out the window. There is a middle ground between ignoring or smearing accusers and accepting trial by media and de facto conviction without evidence.

The decision on whether to stay in the race is Judge Moore’s, and I call on him to make it with honesty and integrity. If he stays in, sans a trial or evidence, the ultimate decision on whether last-minute media accusations should determine elections will come next month from Alabama voters.

Although I suspect the accusations are false, like many directed at conservatives, as a 71-year old woman, I have trouble judging someone for
indiscretions when they were 32. A man's life can change, and no one is without faults. ( Even Dietrich Boenhoeffer had a relationship with a teenager.) For the past forty years, Roy Moore has served his state and country as a conservative Christian. If I were an Alabama voter, and the allegations were proven, I would still vote for him.

This smear campaign is right out of the clinton-obama playbook. I am 85 years old, born in Alabama, lived here all my life and this is the first trash I ever heard concerning Judge Moore. I do NOT, NOT, NOT believe one word of this woman's statement. Old saying, "money talks," and I believe lots of democrats money is not only talking, but yelling out loud. If I live until voting day, I will proudly cast my vote for Judge Roy Moore....

I notice the number of Republicans joining the dialog. Obviously the swamp is larger than POTUS expected. . . . . and this is why nothing is getting done in Washington. Alabama, please elect Roy Moore and help reduce the swamp size a bit.

As much as I disapprove of a 32Yr old dating with a 14 Yr old, in 1979 a 14 Yr old in Alabama was able to marry.I believe it since has changed to 16 Yr old. Are we going to crucify Mr Moore for bad judgement? If so we would have to empty out probably all of Congress. As far as I am concerned he is still being hounded for the 10 Commandment issue of years ago.

Human beings are fallen people... we all make mistakes and sin. I am disturbed the most by the ones who have one standard for their group and a totally different standard for their opposition. I have watched this played out since the Kennedy campaign. Throughout my life, I have voted across party lines. I was disappointed by some of my choices, but I understood the balance of government. However, I now discern that many of our elected representatives are interested in building their own kingdoms and will "sell their souls" for money and power.

Even more disturbing is the way history is being rewritten and a misguided group of people are denying the facts of what really happened. I am seeing more turmoil, conflict and chaos in society. It appears we have defined deviancy down to become the new normal. Those of us who hold to "good behavior or traditional values" of the past are being turned on and criticized as outdated beliefs. grandmother say I realize what my grandmother meant when she said, "this country is going to hell in a hand basket." Our worldly views are producing an untamed and unbridled society. Until the lessons are learned, "it is not about me" and the "one who is in control over all things" is recognized, this battle will continue.

I praise and thank the LORD daily because I can look back on my life and pinpoint the many times HE was with me. HIS protection, guidance, discipline and grace are so clear to me. I now fully understand GOD's plan to conquer sin and restore our relationship with HIM was based on unconditional LOVE. When we go back to the beginning, all GOD wanted was for his creation to LOVE HIM and reflect or live out HIS character and values. Only then will there be "SHALOM."

Roy Moore has had 5 previous campaigns, how come this was never brought up at those campaigns? I have been sexually harassed, I immediately told my boss & my boyfriend. So if she was so upset why didn't she say something when it happened? Too close to the election to believe her.
Mike thanks so much for keeping me in the loop. You are doing a great job.

Gomer, the wife of the prophet Hosea - was of the same character of this accuser. And, then there is Delilah and her "work" for hard cold cash. Sound familiar ? My wife and I are in full agreement that in the USA - all it takes is a "woman" to make an accusation and the life of the one to whom the accusation was rendered is greatly affected with possible divorce and severe reprimands by his children. The proof of innocence in the USA today is on the accused. The "burden" of proof for guilt within the democratic news media is the "air" leaving the lips of the accuser. "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor" is one of the 10 commandments that is no longer viable within the government of this country because heathens within the democratic news media proclaim Christanity then support abortion - ie Hillary Clinton and her angel of demons. There must be a legal change within the political arena to support those whom have been accused and then the accused found innocent to suffer criminal and civil penalties. Using scissors to cut someones hair ( strength) must have consequences.

This "lady's" financials should now be under scrutiny b/c she was surely paid off by the Liberals. If she was so concerned by the supposedly sexual in-appropriateness of Judge Moore, why did she wait for nearly 40 years to bring this to the attention of the "press"? And why the Washington Post?? I think this is a farce & should be ignored.

No reasonable person should give any weight to unsubstantiated claims of misconduct that allegedly occurred 38 years ago, especially when those claims come just a few weeks before an election. It appears the Democratic Party simply cannot win an election based on the merits of their candidate. They always resort to lies and innuendo in an attempt to sway voters to vote against the opposing candidate rather than back a Democratic candidate that is actually qualified to run for office.

Roy Moore has been a man of God who has shown his integrity to the people of Alabama and to the people of our nation. It is this truth of his Christian beliefs that has led him down this path to be accused of such an awful act. 40 years is a long time to withhold something like Moore is accused of doing. Why didn't these young ladies come forth before now? Why come forth just before a senate race that is so important to the Republican party? There is something wrong with this scenerio. He is being accused of a sexually immoral act because the accusers know that is what hurts him the most. Many people in Alabama support Roy Moore as I do and believe him because we have seen the results of his labors. I will continue to support him and I hope there is an investigation into the false allegations.

These charges are a new precedent as to how low the Establishment will dig, just to find dirt! What is the Character of his accuser and where are the verifiable list of witnesses? Why did it take 38yrs to find such a "Serious" as Mitt Romney said, Victim of horrific abuse? Multiple campaigns and referendums by rogue courts and the SPLC in his back yard, yet in 38yrs, not one peep about sexual impropriety, or maleficence! Yet we are to believe a Woman who in her own words said her testimony is unreliable, due to 3 Divorces, 3 Bankruptcies, Multiple IRS audits, some she has yet to settle. Then their is the fact that Judge Roy has not been her only target over the years, as evidence comes out that she has frequently accused Ministers, Public officials and even Police officers with Sexual misconduct charges! Most of those were thrown out by Alabama Judges noticing that her stories changed often and her character proven unreliable deemed her unfit to testify! Considering the Shellacking Moore has received from the Press and the Establishment Elites of both Parties, without one shred of proof. I would say this is the creation of the Swamp Creatures of Washington DC, hoping to influence the weak minded Religious voters! I would also suggest that someone follow the money and or offers of repair this woman has received for her participation, in the destruction of Roy Moore, as just before this she was facing prison time for her dealings with IRS Fraud! If Roy pulls out of this Race under such a barrage of Lies and innuendo's, from so far in his past, then No Conservative will ever be able to run for office again! This attack was expected, as the Swamp is being threatened and the Pendulum is swinging our way, so the Fascist Elites are desperate to put out the fires and destroy any champions of the people! Could you see a Democrat leave the race under the same conditions? They did this to Clearance Thomas unsuccessfully, then Herman Cain who crashed under the pressure, then Sarah Palin whom they destroyed, then Michele Bachman whom they drummed pout of Congress! No more Recusals, No more Cowardice under fire and No more digging up 38yr old accusations, from unscrupulous characters, just before an Election! The only People buying this Garbage are the Media and Political Elites, since they created this Fake News, as Roy Moore said "Out of Desperation and out of thin air"! Americans need to wake up and understand the Media wants us all Dead and replaced with Communist Slaves and will do, or say anything to accomplish that end!
Thanks Mike and I know that you understand my post, as they went after you also!

The WaPo sought her out tells me this is probably a case of they paid her well to say this if indeed she did say it. Why hasn't anyone else interviewed her? If true this is despicable and he should be prosecuted. However I question why she waited till now to come forward. I believe these are lies and false reporting. It seems so bizarre that he has been in office for so many years and never had an accusation of this nature forthcoming of misconduct towards him. Now, the democrats are attempting to regain majority in the Congress that they might have paid worms to crawl out of the woodwork to create a basket of doubt and rain havoc on a Republican candidate. It's too convenient. It's too easy. It's hard to prove or disprove when accusations of this type appear (true or not-true) it turns the public against the victim of the accusation without once allowing for the possibility of it being a direct discrediting lie. I hope that the America public will think about the M.O. of the Democratic Party that accuses their misdeeds upon others in order to direct the press against others. They don't stop there either, they keep the hammer hanging over the heads of every republican... you do I the democrat way or we will discredit and ruin your life you in an alarming fashion. IT'S TOO CONVENIENT. THE TIMING IS QUESTIONABLE AND THE PROOF IS NOT THERE.

It is interesting that this information comes so close to the election. Where were they just weeks ago when he was in a primary? If true, why didn’t they stop him from winning that contest? It is a despicable hit piece from a known fake news outlet. If TRUMP called for him to step down with due process. I am through with and any other person that does. Years ago, I reluctantly ran for local office, not because I wanted the job but because I was willing to do it to fight the cronyism and corruption that existed in our municipal government. The opposition's campaign manager had to go back 25 years to find a letter to the editor from a disgruntled community activist that accused me of accepting bribes from a developer. When I accosted that campaign manager about the piece—pointing out that all ten homeowners' association presidents had gratuitously gotten together the next day to sign and send a rebuttal letter to the newspaper and to praise the work I had done for the community—he said he knew about it and "so what!"

Of course I don't know the truth about the Judge; but I do know the truth about the ethics and morals of today's campaign management professionals. Dunno which profession is the oldest; but I know that I have much more respect for a prostitute.

Gov. Huckabee and your readers: Judge Roy Moore is innocent! How about we start there in our Constitutional Republic. Judge Roy Moore will be the next United States Senator of Alabama because the only people who should vote on "character counts" is the registered voters of the Great State of Alabama! Full disclosure: I hosted for five years an Internet talk show, "Ramble & Rumble with Rabbi: Venue for Vision & Values in our Communities." We had over 2,500 Great Guests during the run. Judge Roy Moore, "The Ten Commandments Judge," was a guest twice. I have been leading locally a prayer group for over 8 years whose theme is, "Righteousness to Reign in our Leaders and Leadership." We have seen reasons to Rejoice, both when the "wicked" fall and the "righteous" are lifted-up.

There is the possibility that these allegations really did happen. In fact I would not be surprised if they are true. I hope they are not. While the last two are inappropriate, they are not illegal. Creepy? Yes but not illegal. However what bothers me most is that after all these years these women are coming forward. If they were not bothered enough by it 40 years ago, why now? I heard a report that that the media from one of the newspapers put a lot of pressure on the first woman until she finally relented and came forward. If the Judge has had a clean record and a faithful marriage since, then leave him alone. Why ruin him now? I think somewhere the libs are trying to prevent him because they know what type of Senator he will be. God knows what happened and he will judge him accordingly.

One reason to question the veracity of the claims is--he has been in public office for how many years? I know there are women who were afraid to talk sooner, but surely there would have been at least one opponent throughout the years (and you know politicians dig for dirt on their opponents) who would have ferreted this out. And, of the claims, I did not hear that he had sex with any of them, even the 15 y/o. The 19 y/o even insists they never went beyond kissing on the few dates she says they had. The only thing I heard the other 19-20 y/o's claim was that he provided her with wine--and, is she saying this happened on more than one occasion? One did claim there was partial undressing, and him having her touch his while he still had underwear on. There are plenty of girls/women who, at 16, 17 and older who even marry a guy 5 or 10 years older. Is he being labeled a pediophile for all these females, or just for the 15 y/o?

These accusations against Roy Moore are absolutely ludicrous! In a time here in America when evil is often determined to be good while actual good is considered evil, what is your moral compass? How can you vilify a decent, principled man who has demonstrated his ability to withstand evil and tenaciously pursue good despite years of numerous and various attempts to discredit him? Be discerning while you consider how much time has elapsed since the supposed occurrence of these ridiculous allegations and then the timing of their revelation--how politically convenient and typical! Also I would love to delve into the lives of the accusers--men included. I can well imagine immoral people addicted to pornography and unfaithful to their spouses numbered among those making such unfounded claims against this candidate. Don't take my word for it; look at the statistics here in America and draw your own conclusions. Prevarications also abound these days. Consider well. Then you choose between the accusers and the one charged! Look at their lifelong reputations, histories, and demonstrated personal character. I know who I stand with and why because I have for years closely followed and observed this public figure. This is a man of impeccable character, sterling reputation, and innumerable, admirable qualities along with an excellent education and outstanding experience spanning many years. Certainly Roy Moore is well suited to be a U.S. senator as well as to fill any number of other leadership positions in our country. Let the hypocrites stand down!

Isn't it amazing that these false accusations surface now? Did the media go wild with Mr. Weinstein's sexual misconduct or the recent sexual misconduct of that Muslim professor? With conservative Christians, we are guilty until proven innocent with the media & radical leftists. We will pray that the Lord will vindicate Judge Moore.

I don't trust WaPo. My hunch says, the left is doing this because he is a christian conservative.
However, if they were old enough to consent and they told him to stop, he did. So where is the issue? If the one that was under age is not lieing, then he needs to step down. Only he and God know the truth.
We can not wrongly accuse a person either, that would be defamation. I read articles, one accuser worked for the DNC, another lady was bribed, and still a lady that did not accuse him was promised a big amount of money by a reporter if she accused him wrongfully.
Jesus got wrongfully accused. The bible says we christians will also be persecuted as Jesus was.

That the allegations come at this critical time after years of silence, not even a hint, makes the allegation sound suspectious, completely false. President Trump should stand up for, endorse judge Moore.
It's my prayer that the voters will take their questions to God and listen to our Father instead of the media. God has never been untruthful. This can not be said of the media, Democrats, Liberals and One World Order proponents, Republicans, humans.

The democrats are just trying to pull a fast one, I believe. The democrats and media are not to be believed because they are always spreading falsehoods. Where is the truth and integrity in this country? Now they want to impeach President Trump for what? Why didn't they impeach former Pres. Obama for what he did? I believe what he did was treason. And Mrs. Clinton should be in prison for what she has done. Others have been put in prison for doing less illegal things than she has. What has happened to the people in this country? Have they lost all common sense and conscience? Us GOD fearing people better have strong backs and courage and boldness to stand up for the truth and what is right and fight for the truth in GOD's word (it's black and white and no grey and it's right and wrong and no maybe).

I am a PROUD supporter of Judge Roy Moore. A co-author of the Washington Post article is known for writing bad checks and has no credibility with me. The lady who accused Moore of molesting her when she was 14 has been pictured with Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton. Aren't we known by the company we keep? I am very skeptical that these allegations are true. If they are true, it was sinful behavior and I trust that he has repented. However, since Jesus is not running for any political office, so we are only left with "fallen men and women" to choose from, so I choose to support candidates who stand for a conservative, Bible and Consitution based platform. There is no doubt, Judge Moore is the candidate who best meets that criteria in the Alabama Senate race and therefore still deserves our support and prayers.

This is nothing more than a witch hunt against Ray Moore because he's a conservative, a believer, and stands up for the Constitution!! Absolutely disgusting accusations against him ... don't believe a word of it either!!

I was really shocked when Mitt Romney came out and said he should step down. He said “innocent until proven guilty” was for criminal cases and didn’t apply so the Judge should just step down. That means anyone can make an accusation and destroy a man’s career. How utterly ridiculous!!! Kind of strange these women came out just before the election! I am sick of the double standard! And these globalist republicans! Thank you Mr. Huckabee for all you do!

This is a typical Liberal attack when they are in a bind. Only three know what the truth is, most important is God.

Commentary continues below advertisement

This is a typical Liberal attack when they are in a bind. Only three know what the truth is, most important is God.

I am reminded of Psalm 14:1 "The fool hath said in his heart that there is no God, they are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good". They are rebellious fools.

I believe Moore's opponent and the Democrats are panicking because of Moore's high poll numbers and created this smear, even if they had to buy people off. May the truth be told!

I believe Judge Moore is a good man who has riled the establishment. I also believe that Trump is wrong to weigh in. Praying for the Judge and the people of Alabama.
