Northam's 1984

February 2, 2019

I’m writing this on Friday night, as Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam is vowing that he will not resign.  But were I a betting man, my money would be on him being gone by the time you read this.

Americans haven’t seen anyone pull such a spectacular crash-and-burn in public since the days when Evel Knievel was jumping motorcycles over large objects.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/northams-career-in-a-death-spiral-after-abortion-comments-racist-photo-matthew-continetti

Northam first came to national attention last week when he attempted to defend a proposed pro-abortion law so extreme that even its own backers are now fleeing from it like cats that touched a hot stove.  His appalling description of the act of letting a baby born during an abortion just lie there and struggle for its life without offering medical aid sparked outrage even among some liberals (the infant would be kept comfortable while the parents and doctors have a discussion about what to do – if there even are any doctors: some of these new pro-abortion bills don’t even require that there be a real doctor present.) Let me settle that discussion: when a baby is struggling for its life, you CALL A DOCTOR or get it to a hospital!!!  That doesn’t require a debate.

But then came the shocking surprise twist: a conservative blogger unearthed a photo from Northam’s 1984 yearbook at Eastern Virginia Medical School that showed two male students in costumes: one in blackface and the other in a KKK hood and robe.  One was identified as Northam.  National Review verified that the photo was real, and Northam admitted it (although he didn’t specify whether he was the one in blackface or Klan robe, if that really matters.)

Some Republicans pointed out that this was especially shocking, considering Northam defeated Republican Ed Gillespie by tarring him as a racist (he also tweeted about President Trump, “We deserve better than a President who won’t condemn white supremacists.”) It also raised questions of why Gillespie’s campaign didn’t find this photo.  Remember when I wrote yesterday about the Trump Tower meeting and said that all campaigns do opposition research?  Apparently, Gillespie’s didn’t.  If he had found this, he’d likely be Governor of Virginia today.

Well, this was too much of a burning cross to bear even for Democrats who had no problem defending Northam on the whole “murdering babies” issue.  Soon, the calls for his resignation were coming from all sides, including the left: Julian Castro, Kamala Harris, the Congressional Black Caucus, Terry McAuliffe, Ted Lieu, MoveOn.org, and even – brace yourself – Planned Parenthood!

But then, Planned Parenthood has nothing to lose. As Sean Davis of the Federalist tweeted, Lt. Gov. “Justin Fairfax, who would replace Northam, is a former Planned Parenthood official who is even more radically pro-infanticide than Northam. There’s no downside for abortionists in calling for Northam’s head. They get all the baby-killing (without) the baggage.”

https://twitter.com/seanmdav/status/1091528148628500480

One wag also declared that Planned Parenthood just can’t stand to see anything survive through its full term.

One very telling sidelight: CNN, either from bias or force of habit, falsely identified Northam on screen as a Republican.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cnn-chyron-falsely-identified-ralph-northam-as-republican-during-segment-on-blackface-kkk-yearbook-controversy

They probably didn’t mean to be misleading, since that was too obvious not to be noticed.  I imagine they just heard the letters “KKK” and assumed it was a story about a Republican.  To help them in case this comes up again in the future: The KKK was created by Democrats.  They were angry that a Republican President, whom they called an “ape” and other nasty names, wanted to stop them from importing an underclass of workers from poor nations to exploit by making them do their field and house work rather than paying a free American citizen a living wage to do it.  Some people claim the parties somehow switched positions since the 1860s, but I really don’t see how.

Another sidelight of this media circus was an attempt by some Democrats to claim that their calls for Northam to step aside rather than excuse it as a dumb youthful indiscretion prove they don’t practice situational ethics because they also called on Brett Kavanaugh to step aside over something from many years ago in school.  But that overlooks two important points:  (1.) the accusation against Kavanaugh was from when he was a high school kid, not a 26-year-old medical school student, and (2.) Kavanaugh vociferously denied the charge, and nobody ever produced a scrap of evidence or a single corroborating witness.  Northam posed for a photo and admitted it was him.  If someone had accused Northam of wearing blackface or a KKK robe over 30 years ago with no evidence or witnesses, I would've defended his right to a presumption of innocence, too.  But that’s not what we have here.

Well, as we wait for Northam to read the writing on the wall and start packing his sheets, it’s worth noting that we now know what Democrats find unacceptable in a high public official (evidence of past racist behavior) and acceptable (condoning and enabling of infanticide.)  It would be nice if they were outraged by both of these abominations.

I’ll give the final word to conservative comedian Stephen Kruiser, who had the best line of all to sum up Northam’s self-destruction:

“(Northam’s) career will be kept comfortable while the voters who gave birth to it discuss whether or not it should be terminated.”

    Can anyone spell Sodom and Gomorrah? Anyone ever read The Ten Commandments? Anyone have a basic set of ethics amid morals? Let’s take stock, contemplating killing babies who can survive outside of the mother, changing the gender of children because the girls are tomboys, or the boys enjoy some feminine persuit, dressing up as a member of the KKK, lying, lying, and more lying, calling fellow citizens unmentionable names because of a hat, wearing hats that represent female genetalia, making idols of stars, committing adultery without a thought, stealing what belongs to others, etc. How many Commandments are we breaking?
    Even if people don’t believe in God, don’t they have any moral or ethical code? We are destroying what was an exceptional Country. We are undermining a gift from God. I have visited many, many countries and have become even more grateful for being born American, but I disparing more every day. The only good thing about all of this is that the NY abortion law and the remarks of the Virginia’s Govenor, be getting attention and causing disgust. Speaking of said Govenor, he knew exactly what he was doing at the age of 26. How anyone could be amused by the Klan is beyond me. Both parties have their share of hypocrites, but the DNC outweighs the GOP exponentially.

    While I agree he made a HUGE mistake, I fear this "destroy at all costs" mentality that is rearing it's ugly head (again) is not helping anything. When folks like the Clintons, Obama, Pelosi, Schumer etc. have gotten away with much worse, (the double standard even for the Demobrats) things like this will bite us all down the road. Who among us didn't do stupid things in our 20's? The next election will take care of this should he choose to subject himself to that! Seems like we should show a little compassion and not be like the rest of the world... JMO

    It is strange how WTOP in Washington has been so involved in this Northam matter, particularly since they have, or have had, a controlling stake in the station since 1949: a station that started out as WJSV, for James S. Vance, a former Grand Wizard of the KKK in Virginia. His Fellowship Forum bought the station and The Washington Post front-page article of 8/1/27 called it " a weekly newspaper devoted in large part to the furtherance of the principles and purposes of the Klan."

    Governor Huckabee, May I comment once again what a fine writer you are! I told my family that in 2016 there were only 2 candidates I would vote for - either you or Pres. Trump. You are an exceptional leader. On to the topic at hand - we have had history and authors repeatedly warn us about the Dems initiatives and they seem to want to repreat the power trips from Games of Thrones and the infanticide from The Giver or the control theory from 1984 and mirror socialism and communism. Keep writing and speaking and exposing them. They are trying to change our culture and our beliefs and we refuse to become as evil and sacrilegious as they are and want us to be. We are Christians and our mantra is Onward Christian Soliders! Our best to Sarah! Agreed with her comment that God had a purpose for Trump to save America. I still remember our joy when he was elected. We felt free again.

    The Democrats including Rachel Maddows Oscar winning performance about children being ripped from their parents arms @ the border. Now the democrats are making murder legal in the USA. What is the difference between a baby who took its 1st breath and a teenager. Nothing and this law would give every parent the right to literally kill their child and call it abortion and get away with it! How sick in the head is Cuomo and these other Governors mine included! The corrupt Democrat party takeover of the Commonwealth of Virginia (2010-2014) reared its ugly "covered" head when the Obama Justice Department intervened. A permanent Democrat party stake with a road to DC's Deep State had to be established to pave way for Hillary Clinton's 2016 Presidential bid... So, the immensely popular Governorship of Bob McDonnell (Elected by Virginians in a LANDSLIDE after previously enduring weak democrat governors: Tim Kaine (2006-2009) and "do nothing" Mark Warner (2002-2005) who was endorsed by the liberal Republican, John Warner for Senate seats) had to be taken out.

    The Democrats could not allowed a Republican constitutionalist like Ken Cuccinelli to be elected in McDonnell's footsteps, only the Clinton money bag handler, Terry McAuliffe would do.
    Cuccinelli lost to McAuliffe by less than 2.5% from the sanctuary area of northern Virginia with Libertarian candidate gardening 6.5%. Democrat donors funded the third party candidate.

    Hence, McAuliffe went behind the scenes to foster Obama's agenda that many were unconstitutional with Virginia's State Constitution.
    --Instructed AG Mark Herring to recognize same-sex marriages BEFORE Kennedy even wrote the Supreme Court's Majority opinion;
    --Tried to Expand Medicaid;
    --Granted Felons voting rights months before 2016 Presidential election;
    --Kept suspiciously silent about the "planned" Charlottesville protests where Antifa and others did NOT have permits to protest;
    --Involvement with funding McCabe’s wife state legislation campaign during the Clinton email investigation….
    Now connect the corrupt Democrat party dots to Ralph Northam…there isn’t enough barf bags for us suppressed conservatives in Virginia.

    I am a Virginia resident and sadly the ruckus over a photograph taken in 1984 has not died down. While the democrats are busy trying to come up with a great lie in saying that that isn’t Northam in the photo, I am wondering what they are most outraged about. Opposition research would have been done on the Governor and on his opponent during the race. Surely, if they are competent in their research, the dems were already aware of this photograph. My thought is that the Democratic Party wanted Northam out of office and the photo was leaked to accomplish that goal. Yes, Governor you are correct in saying that there is more outrage over this photograph than the fact that he supports the killing of a newborn. Did you know that in Virginia it is a code violation to kill a cardinal? What is wrong with this picture?

    I was praying just this morning, "how long Father, how long will you allow this evil to continue. " I have also been praying for God to turn their evil upon themselves. "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord." Christians we have to keep praying for God to intercede and heal our country.

    I was praying just this morning, "how long Father, how long will you allow this evil to continue. " I have also been praying for God to turn their evil upon themselves. "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord." Christians we have to keep praying for God to intercede and heal our country.

Commentary continues below advertisement

    A proud Conservative leaning Independent.

JMO

    Huck;
    We both know what is going on was predicted long ago. All we can do is speak out about it but we are speaking out against the prince of lies and he is in control for a short time. We are in a time where truth speakers will become targeted by his minions!

    Northam is repugnant in many ways. But in the last 30 years has anything else racist come up? Yes he was 26 and there is proof he made a horrific mistake but I don't know that I believe he has stayed in the mindset that That picture is ok. He apologized. Current history and what he has done past that picture should be weighed. I'm sorry he's governor but people get past stupidity of college. Or I hope so. Brand him for who he is today and had been on public life.

    why don't we take this time when "Chancy" and the Donald agree that only non-essential federal workers are laid off to terminate them and require that they apply for their former jobs if they want them back ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

    it's S O P in the private sector and there is also no reimbursement for time while laid off - - - - - - -

We are no different than the Egyptians throwing babies to the alligators in Moses time.

    The Dems welcome all illegal DACA with open arms and open tax payer check book BUT they wait with a drawn sword for the unwelcome appearance of all those defenseless young legal Americans
    How could OR why would the government give planned parenthood millions of tax payers dollars when they have so much that they in turn give to politicans
    The government could as well send the money directly to the politicans

    --Instructed AG Mark Herring to recognize same-sex marriages BEFORE Kennedy even wrote the Supreme Court's Majority opinion;
    --Tried to Expand Medicaid;
    --Granted Felons voting rights months before 2016 Presidential election;
    --Kept suspiciously silent about the "planned" Charlottesville protests where Antifa and others did NOT have permits to protest;
