A shocking allegation

A Twitter whistleblower has made a shocking allegation against the social media giant to Congress and several federal agencies. Twitter’s former head of security, Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, says that Twitter has “major security problems that pose a threat to its own users’ personal information, to company shareholders, to national security, and to democracy.” He claims these security flaws make Twitter susceptible to hacking, manipulation and disinformation.

https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2022/08/23/twitter-whistleblower-levies-shocking-charges-about-threats-to-user-info-national-security-n616349

Nick Arama of Redstate.com reports that according to Zatko, “thousands of employees — almost half the workforce — have access to the platform’s central controls and the most sensitive information on users without adequate oversight. The report notes that one or more current employees may even be working for foreign intelligence.”

In response to Elon Musk’s charge that Twitter wasn’t being honest about how many of its accounts are bots, Zatko accused Twitter’s bosses of misleading the board and federal regulators. He said they actually have no way of measuring how many bots there are.

Twitter responded by claiming that Zatko was fired for “poor performance.” Maybe that means he failed to keep his mouth shut.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11137619/Twitter-extreme-deficiencies-risk-national-security-whistleblower-claims.html

Judging from my experience, it’s hard to imagine any connections between Twitter’s employees and intelligence of any kind, particularly the "fact-checkers." But if you were looking for yet another reason to get off social media, here it is on a silver platter. Remember the cardinal rule of social media: if you don’t pay anything for the company’s product, then you are the company’s product.

Paul Pelosi is found guilty

Tuesday, Nancy Pelosi’s wealthy husband Paul Pelosi pleaded guilty to DUI and causing injury in a car crash back in May. He was sentenced to five days in jail, three years’ probation, restitution payments and a three-month drunk driving program.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/paul-pelosi-avoids-more-jail-time-he-pleads-guilty-one-count-california-dui-case

But don’t get excited expecting to see a Pelosi in an orange jumpsuit anytime soon (unless Nancy buys a designer one.) The judge ruled that he already had credit for four days of jail time. I know what you're thinking: no, not from his marriage to Nancy Pelosi. That's just mean! The judge meant he had two days of jail time credit from actual time served (did he really spend 48 hours in the slammer?), two for conduct credits, and the remaining day to be covered by an eight-hour work program.

It would be easy to carp about politically-connected rich liberals getting away with anything these days, but to be fair, this is California, where even everyday armed robbers, carjackers and killers are released without bail before the ink is dry on their arrest warrants.

Big audience shows up to say goodbye

CNN drew some of its biggest ratings in a long time (nowhere near Fox News’ ratings, but big for CNN) on Sunday night when they aired the final episode of the recently-fired Brian Stelter’s laughably-misnamed show, “Reliable Sources.”

It reminds me of what Red Skelton reportedly said about the huge crowd that unexpectedly showed up for widely-despised Columbia Studios boss Harry Cohn’s funeral: “It just goes to prove, give the people what they want and they’ll show up for it.”

Important testimony

This week brought a little-noted but vitally important bit of Senate testimony that needs to be shared far and wide. Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford got Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to essentially admit that the Biden Administration is choosing bank bailout winners and losers, and that the giant banks that are helping leftist aims like defunding conservative groups and tracking gun sales will be saved while independent and community banks will be left to go bankrupt or be bought up by big banks.

Arrest warrant issued for Vladimir Putin

The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes for allegedly deporting children from Ukraine to Russia.
There are few people on Earth more deserving of arrest, but as the link explains, you shouldn’t hold your breath waiting to see Putin in an orange jumpsuit. The International Criminal Court, for all the gravity liberals bestow on it, is pretty powerless to do anything about its charges. It relies on other nations to enforce them, and who’s going to arrest Putin for them? Chad? New Zealand? Russia won’t turn Putin over, and Putin’s not going to give himself up. And “15 persons remain at large with outstanding (ICC) arrest warrants, and the court has seen at least four arrest warrants expire since the suspect died before authorities could apprehend them.” This mostly amounts to some more deserved, but rather redundant, bad publicity for Putin. It also shines a spotlight on how impotent the ICC really is, which I doubt was the intention.

President Trump to be arrested?!?

It appears that Barack Obama’s threatened “fundamental transformation” of America is about to be complete next week, as we will reportedly turn full-on banana republic with the unprecedented arrest of a former President and leading presidential candidate on clearly partisan charges. This relates to an allegation from six years ago that Trump made improper hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels to keep her from claiming they had a one-night affair, which Trump denies. It’s a case that federal authorities passed on prosecuting, and that New York authorities also dropped, but Soros-backed D.A. Alvin Bragg (who can’t seem to find an actual felony that he will prosecute) reportedly plans to bump this charge up from a misdemeanor to a felony so we can have the political theater of handcuffing and arresting Trump. You know, just like we had the political theater of an armed raid on Mar-A-Lago to seize "classified documents" that turned out to be a big fizzle.

The spiritual side of our lives really does matter

When I was growing up, my bedtime ritual always included a fairy tale that started with “Once upon a time...” and ended with the comforting words we all remember: “And they lived happily ever after.” As a child of the optimistic 1950s, I dreamed that life might be like that: whatever obstacles, dangers or perils might come my way, in the end, I would live happily ever after.

Why Art and Music Are Essential in Schools

Aside from letting leftist indoctrination take over our public school system, the biggest mistake we conservatives made in education over the years was in thinking that art and music classes were expendable luxuries and should be slashed to concentrate on “the three ‘R’s.” Not only are art and music classes important in themselves, but they are also beneficial to helping students excel in other subjects, including math and reading.

A blank book of pages

The first school in which we enroll, and the most important in shaping our future, is our home. A casual view of modern TV shows might lead us to believe that parents don’t matter. I contend that nothing matters more. When Benjamin West was a boy, his mother left him in charge of his younger sister, Sally. Benjamin found bottles of colored ink and painted Sally’s portrait.

How to prevent young people from falling prey to socialism

I got a comment from a reader arguing that one reason young people fall prey to socialism (aside from being brainwashed by their teachers) is that they feel the capitalist system is failing them. They were told they had to get college degrees if they wanted good jobs, and encouraged to take out huge student loans. Now, they’re saddled with crippling debt, and those degrees aren’t opening the doors to jobs that pay enough to ever get out of the hole.
