Having made the word “liberal” truly toxic, today’s leftists have slapped a new label on their failed policies: “Progressive.”  I’ve often asked what’s “progressive” about wanting to repeat the same ruinous economic policies that have brought poverty, inequality, death and misery everywhere they’ve been tried for over a century.  But it’s not just in that arena that “progressives” (I always put it in quotation marks, for good reason) are trying to lead society backwards.  Their views of abortion also run counter to public opinion, basic decency, mounting scientific evidence and the tide of history.

For a tragic example, look to New York.  Tuesday, on the 46th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s notorious Roe v. Wade ruling, Democrats who recently took power in both the state Assembly and Senate passed a sweeping pro-abortion bill that Gov. Andrew Cuomo  ran on a promise to sign.  It’s laughably dubbed the “Reproductive Health Act.” It actually has nothing to do with reproduction or health.

https://www.syracuse.com/expo/news/g66l-2019/01/7a5d56a87eac4/historic-ny-abortion-vote-how-law-will-change-what-it-means-for-women.html

In the name of giving women more convenience and choice, the bill allows babies to be aborted up to 24 weeks, or if “there is an absence of fetal viability, or at any time when necessary to protect a patient's life or health.”  And since doctors can subjectively define that to mean the mother’s mental or emotional health, in effect it means that babies can be aborted right up through the ninth month for any reason.

Just to be clear: at 24 weeks, a baby is far enough along that it could likely survive outside the womb.  It weighs more than a pound and is almost a foot long.  It has all its internal organs, its brain is making neural connections, it has sex organs, tiny teeth buds, a digestive system and rapid eye movement.  It is, undeniably and incontrovertibly, a human being.  And in the state of New York, caring and compassionate Democrats are celebrating that they just voted to allow it to be ripped to shreds and sucked out through a vacuum hose.

When you hear liberals falsely accuse President Trump of being a heartless monster who wants to rip children from their mothers’ arms and throw them in cages (a quote from Joe Scarborough), remember that many of the same people are proud of the fact that they want to be able to rip children from their mothers’ wombs and throw them in Dumpsters.

As for the “health” part of the law, the state will no longer even require that an abortion be performed by a doctor.  Licensed nurse practitioners, physician assistants and licensed midwives will also be allowed to perform abortions.  Proponents say this will make abortion more convenient for women in rural areas who don’t have easy access to abortion clinics.  So why not lower the standards for all other medical procedures, so that people who aren’t near a doctor can be operated on by someone who isn’t a doctor?  Under this definition, that would also increase access to “health care.”

The bill certainly does nothing to aid the health of babies, and not only those still in the womb.  It also rolls back protections for babies born alive during botched abortions. After it passed, Democrats in the State house cheered, and Gov. Cuomo declared it “a historic victory for New Yorkers and for our progressive values.”

This is what New York liberals think is “progressive"? Abortions have been declining over the last decade, both in New York and nationwide, as science has made it clearer that a baby in the womb is not just a “clump of cells” that magically turns into a baby at birth.  Still, in New York, the abortion rate of 23.1 per 1,000 women is twice the national average.  More than one-quarter of all pregnancies in the state end in abortion.  In 2014, the most recent year with available data, New York reported 119,940 abortions (and that’s probably an under count.) That was nearly one-eighth of the entire national total.  And yet, Gov. Cuomo and the Democratic legislators think New York's abortion laws are too restrictive and needed to be loosened up.  Cuomo even wants to turn this latest law into a constitutional amendment, to make it harder to get rid of if the SCOTUS overturns Roe v. Wade.

Commentary continues below advertisement

In a move that must have filled millions of Americans with rage and disgust, Cuomo also ordered New York landmarks, including One World Trade Center, to be bathed in pink light to “celebrate” this bill legalizing the killing of children up until the ninth month of pregnancy.  The fact that the World Trade Center is synonymous with heroic New Yorkers who gave their lives to protect the lives of others made Cuomo’s desecration of it for this vile anti-life purpose tantamount to sacrilege.

https://www.westernjournal.com/world-trade-center-lit-pink-celebrate-abortion-bill/

Did it never occur to him that pink is also the color associated with female babies, over 30,000,000 of whom have been slaughtered in the US alone since Roe v. Wade?  Worldwide, in nations where girls are valued less than boys, abortion has been a virtual genocide against females.

Finally, one more fact you should know about fetal development: It takes only three to four weeks after conception for a baby’s heart to start beating.  We define the end of life as the moment when the heart stops beating, yet “pro-choice” advocates refuse to recognize the point at which it begins beating as the beginning of life.

So a baby in the womb has a heart at only three weeks.  Andrew Cuomo is 61 years old.  When will he develop one?

Of course, not everyone in New York is happy that the state wants to turn itself into Abortion Central.  There are many Catholics and Republicans who are sickened by this.  And here’s an example of a brave New York business owner who dared to tell his customers exactly what he thinks of the new law.

https://www.westernjournal.com/exclusive-ny-bookstore-stands-new-abortion-law-closes-store-mourn-thousands-babies-will-die/

If Roe v. Wade ever is overturned, despite the misleading claims of abortion defenders, abortion will not automatically be banned nationwide.  The issue will simply go back to the individual states, where it belongs.  Roe v. Wade was based on seven unelected lawyers in black robes somehow “discovering” a right to abortion in the Constitution that the Founders obviously never intended, based on the dubious notion that abortion is part of a right to privacy under the Due Process Clause.

This was such a stretch that at the time, one of America’s greatest legal scholars, John Hart Ely, wrote in the Yale Law Journal that the Court’s decision was "not constitutional law and gives almost no sense of an obligation to try to be…What is frightening about Roe is that this super-protected right is not inferable from the language of the Constitution, the framers’ thinking respecting the specific problem in issue, any general value derivable from the provisions they included, or the nation's governmental structure."

If it were overturned on grounds that it is terrible law, a perversion of the Constitution and a major federal power grab, then the issue would revert back in the states.  Some would have lenient abortion laws (hopefully, not as lenient as New York’s; I’d also hope that the people in those states would open their hearts and minds to the truth and turn away from it.)  But other states would continue to show real progress, and follow the tide of science and history and the side of love, kindness and decency; to embrace protecting innocent life instead of snuffing it out.  Like this state…

Has this guy ever had the 10 commandments read to him can this guy even read? People wonder why we don't populate our country with our own citizens review this abortion law look at planned parenthood these are crimes against God with in we trust, human crimes I believe against human beings as far as I know babies in the womb are human. Got gave the gift of desirable means to reproduce His children to have insane people like this cuomo devil have any say is absurd. One more thing If I hear a politician say we need to get to work on a bill or get back to work (oxymoron) I will write a bill to prosecute for time theft these politicians are stealing time from the tax payer and we are paying for getting nothing done. It has always defied my logic...that the LEFT has encouraged open borders, and free citizenship for all aliens, because they enter the workforce as untrained, uneducated, day-laborers, who drain not only the welfare coffers to subsist, but defile the " genepool " of
"American-born" citizens, by bringing their children with them. They fill the job pools, though....the jobs Americans supposedly don't want,
and the jobs that go begging to be filled!!! What about the 30,000,000 babies slaughtered by the LEFT........who would be filling those jobs, as
IN-COUNTRY-BORN Citizens....who would gladly fill the jobs, pay taxes, bear citizen-children, not receive welfare benefits to which they are not entitled, and help keep America strong and great! What about the 30 Million, Damn it???

    Good Morning Mike,

I was born at 7 months. Shortly before my birth, they tried to terminate the pregnancy, but 65 years ago medical procedures weren't quite as advanced as they are now and I apparently resisted their attempts. I am relatively healthy though my heart didn't develop 100% and has never been 100% efficient causing me to be tired most of the time.

Like you, I am a musician, been in the same band for 32 years and we're still going strong. I just power through and have a great time. I am a free thinking conservative (not real typical for musicians) as are all 5 people in my band. My point is, I am a completely viable human at 65 who was inconveniently born at 7 months.

I believe there are physical development issues to one degree or another for babies not allowed to go to full term, but aborting a baby after 6 months is nothing short of murder. Abortion is simply the last resort in cases where the mother's life is clearly in jeopardy.

If today's medical technology and Cuomo's law were in place here in 1953, I would not be here to type this to you today. I recommend anyone who is pro-abortion or is thinking about having an abortion go see the movie Gosnell, especially if you think Cuomo's law / late term abortion is a good idea. There's just something about hearing a baby being born, coming out crying then instantly silenced by some butcher cutting the spinal cord in the neck with a pair of scissors.

Cuomo, the New York governor, is Catholic in name only. So is Pelosi. I cannot understand why the Catholic Church has not excommunicated these two murders. They are co-conspirators in thousands of murders by their promoting these laws and the abortions of these babies. I am Catholic and embarrassed by the Church's failure to take a STRONG stand.

Mike, I did not know this slaughter of innocent human babies is being put into the express route, in New York. While the evil ones celebrate the slaughter I'm sure the good people are saddened, angered, and sickened by the Injustice committed to these little voiceless babies before they can even take there first breath. This reckless and careless law, I believe does not define our country, or who we are as a people. I hate this law. What about MENS"Father's" rights. Must we stand aside and just allow our babies to be slaughtered like this??? We have advanced tremendously scientifically since Roe vs. Wade. We know that this is killing living human beings (babies). We cannot go around killing scum bags in our society. So why is it okay for Mom to kill baby? Do you know how many woman I know that are completely Wackadoo because they killed there baby, aka abortion. All of them! This is insanity!!! If it's okay to kill the innocent babies who will they next designate is okay to kill. Well we definitely know who they would start with if they could. "Trump Supporters.". Then who's next, "The Financially Poor Handicapped." Deceivers, traitors, scammers, murderers. EVIL EVIL EVIL. This is not okay. Thank you for taking the time to read my rant. Breath in. Breath out. I'm okay. Really.

Breath in. Breath out. I'm okay. Really.

My sister was born at 6 months in Tgw mid 1940’s with no physical or mental problems. To make murder legal is an abomination to God! I am sickened by this!

“Progressives” in quotation marks is spot on. Please apply quotation marks to “elites.” Thank you.

Mike, thanks for writing this. I have written to my representatives to express my views but unfortunately this had no chance of being stopped. I've never been so discouraged to live in New York which is committed to furthering the reputation of killing children at an even greater rate than in the past. I am speechless.

This is totally an abomination. It seem you can listen to a liberal discuss the same issue and their reasoning isn’t even logical or “are we talking about the same facts. “

Thank you for keeping us informed with information we can trust!
I was lucky enough to meet you a few times when you were in Iowa, at the former Spencer Dream Center the last time, and was part of your Clay County reelection team. Do you have any comments about the media's account of Rep. Steve King? We have been supporters of King from the very begining and have been standing with him and feel his loss of the posts on the committees he has served to be a huge loss. Is this another media ploy so that King was not allowed to serve on the judical committee? His comments, the way they are beng reported, are not appropriate. Thank you for listening and I would appreciate your comments. We are tuned to TBN on Saturday evenings and DVR the show if we are home, it's great! WE hope to visit your show taping someday soon.
