On Tuesday afternoon, on the heels of a jury verdict --- well, partial verdict --- in the Paul Manafort trial that could send Manafort to prison for the rest of his life even though it had nothing to do with Donald Trump or Russian collusion, it was revealed that Michael Cohen had accepted a plea deal in a case that had been moved by the special counsel to the Southern District of New York.  That prompted President Trump’s personal lawyer, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, to issue this statement:  “There is no allegation of any wrongdoing against the President in the government’s charges against Mr. Cohen.  It is clear that, as the prosecutor noted, Mr. Cohen’s actions reflect a pattern of lies and dishonesty over a significant period of time.”

Back in March, Cohen said in a Vanity Fair interview that Trump didn’t know he’d paid Stephanie Clifford (Stormy Daniels) $130,000 out of his own pocket.  He had said the same thing to the New York Times a month earlier.  Significantly, Cohen’s plea deal departs from what he’d previously claimed and from what Giuliani has said about no campaign laws being broken, because it specifies that he broke the law to influence the 2016 election at the direction of “a candidate.”  But Cohen’s statements, as legal expert Andrew C. McCarthy noted on Sean Hannity’s Tuesday show, have been “all over the map.”  He theorized that the Cohen case had ended up in the Southern District of New York because Mueller didn’t think it would advance his “Russia” investigation.  Cohen hasn’t entered into a cooperation agreement, he explained, but rather a straight-up guilty plea.  If Cohen were regarded as a valuable witness or cooperator, he said, we’d be seeing “a very different kind of plea agreement.”  I’m assuming he means one that doesn’t call for any jail time.

McCarthy told him, “Sean, I don’t think anybody objective could look at the way that the Clinton email investigation was handled and the way the Trump campaign has been pursued and say that there’s a single standard of justice.  I just don’t see how that could be.”  At the same time, he doesn’t want Mueller taking the reins on that when the U.S. attorney general in Utah is already looking into it.  “I’d rather see them do it than see Mueller do it,” he says.  “I think Mueller should stay focused on what he’s doing and bring it to an end.”

It can’t be said enough:  As far as we’ve come in this investigation, with people being sent to prison to perhaps rot there, nothing ties President Trump with any attempt by Russia to interfere in the 2016 election.  On the other hand, plenty of evidence ties Hillary Clinton with Russians who contributed to the fictional “dossier” compiled by British ex-spy Christopher Steele for the purpose of interfering in the 2016 election.  As I said yesterday, if you’re looking for evidence of a two-tiered justice system, Hillary is “Exhibit A.”  But I agree with McCarthy that Mueller shouldn’t take over the Hillary case –- I don’t TRUST him to take over that case.

Speaking of Hillary, Mark Levin, on his Tuesday radio show, pointed out that longtime Clinton general counsel Lanny Davis (who just HAPPENS by COMPLETE COINCIDENCE to be representing Michael Cohen) had Cohen plead guilty to two campaign finance violations that don’t actually exist.  Besides that, such a plea bargain is a deal made with “a criminal who doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life in prison” (in other words, not very believable) and applies only to his specific case.  Since it hasn’t be adjudicated, it can’t be cited as precedent to use against Trump.

He explained that according to campaign law, if someone spends his own money, or even corporate money, on something that occurs not as a result of the campaign, it is not a campaign expenditure, even if it might affect the outcome of the election.  For example, maybe a candidate wants to pay off a lot of debt, get a new wardrobe or have extensive dental work and reimburses the payment with his own money.  Those are not campaign expenditures, even if they might help win the candidate some votes.  According to Levin, even if Trump directed Cohen to make payments to Stormy Daniels as part of a non-disclosure agreement, it’s legal for him to do so.

Alan Dershowitz had a slightly different take:  if the payment is originally made by someone else, a case might be made that it's technically an unreported campaign contribution (which he likened to "jaywalking"), even if it's reimbursed later.

Of course, either way, it doesn’t matter to those who hate Trump, including those on the special counsel team.  They’ll just go with what they’ve got and use it any way they can.

Governor, the Chinese seem to be killing two birds with one stone: 1) providing funds for an unpopular pro-Cuba, pro-Venezuela, pro-Nicaragua govt in El Salvador (FMLN) to go into the March elections with lots of money; and 2) selling a Pacific port at La Union to the PRC. The surprise announcement by the President of ES interrupted all tv channels last night and even FMLN legislators may not have been informed in advance. Sorry I can't believe CNN has said nothing. Please see Marco Rubio's tweets, including an explanation by Taiwan of the decision not to be bribed to save their relationship with El Salvador. Previously PRC has not kept promises to other countries in Latin America. Their commercial invasion of Africa is bad enough but this is a three-hour flight from D.C.

Makes me wonder how God sees all this? As much as I appreciate what President Trump is doing for America, and I strongly support him, I also know that he is taking a beating by the demo-rats and I can't help but believe, with God in control of everything, he ( the President) is reaping what he has probably sown. "Be not deceived, God is not mocked. Whatsoever a man soweth, that, shall he also reap!" Trump reminds me of King David in Israel and not Joseph in Egypt! I just pray that our hard working President will have a good ending like King David! American justice and God's justice are certainly not alike. You can get away with murder in America, as the Clintons and others have proved so far, but not in God's sight! Our only escape is a pardon by His Son, Jesus, as He represents us before the Judge of all judges!

This helps lighten the weight on my shoulders. I believe in our President and don't care what he did before he was President. I think this whole thing is a huge witch hunt on the Dem side because their plan of domination was foiled. Obama is still trying to get his nose back in. If they are so sure Trump did wrong, why did they not file for impeachment on Obama when he circumvented Congress and let all of the terroists out of GITMO? That was impeachable event. Why was or is not anything being done to pursue Hillary and her garbage. What about Benghazi? Why is this not being looked into instead of messing with our President? Why? This needs to be brought to light and pushed for investigation.

A hush money payment for any personal reason can not be construed as a campaign payment violation. In any case it is not a crime and the media should concentrate on President's acheivements for all Americans and not their obvious hatred of Trump. Where was the media concern about Hillary's criminal activity?

    Hello Governor,
I'm not sure how I feel about the Mueller investigation. On one hand, I believe it should be stopped. It's a massive waste of taxpayer money. It's been 19 months and still no evidence of collusion on the part of Trump. Not only that, he's gone so far outside the bounds of his investigation that I'm not even sure what he's investigating anymore. Neither the Manafort not the Cohen case had anything to do with the collusion case.

On the other hand, I believe he should keep at it. The more he digs, the more he proves collusion on the part of Hillary, not Trump. At least that's the way it seems to me. The unverified Steele dossier with info from Russian operatives, the Uranium one deal, among other things point to Hillary being corrupt. That's just my opinion.

But what now, Governor? Cohen--(who's a shyster of a lawyer anyway: Who records their clients [and maybe even has the recordings "doctored"--who knows]? Who lies & flip-flops like he has? What kind of legal eagle is he if, as he now claims, these questionable NDA-related payments are "illegal campaign contributions" or some other such nonsense [which they're not] yet he never said anything to that effect to candidate Trump?)--is now saying he's willing (and happy!) to talk to Mueller & "cooperate," and will "testify"/claim that then-candidate Trump DID "collude" w/Russians vis-à-vis knowledge beforehand of the Trump Tower meeting, and also that Mr. Trump not only KNEW about the Russian hacking of the DNC/email debacle before it ever happened but encouraged it and cheered them (Russians) on. Had this illegal investigation (aka, rigged witch hunt) never happened, none of this would be an issue--but here we are with President Trump having to fight tooth and nail every minute to counter the not-so-soft coup to remove him from office one way or the other. It is truly disgusting that all these people, including Cohen now, are willing to outright lie, to break laws, to leak info, etc., and collude with the media, deep state, and Democrats to say/do anything to take down our President via indictment or impeachment, even if they have to make up nonexistent crimes and pay off/offer deals to "witnesses." I do not understand at all this level of unadulterated hatred toward one man, where it came from, or why and how it not only spread so far and fast, and also why it is so deeply ingrained in so many on the left. For the first time since the 2016 election, I am truly scared that this will be the beginning of the end of the so refreshing and successful Trump presidency. The myriad legal battles alone now will affect Congress, the midterm elections, etc.--and I don't think for the better. I feel sad, scared, disappointed, and helpless, and I don't know what to do anymore to save my President and my country. And I feel sorry for Sarah esp. over the next few weeks and maybe months as the press will hound her (and POTUS) about this Cohen mess/etc "ad nauseum." This investigation into the so call collusion by President Trump. Show that there are two justice systems in America one for the rich and powerful who control the media and one for the everyday person.
This would have never happen if Hillary Clinton was elected President. Now that her daughter may get into politic we will never be rid of the Clintons darling.
All laws revolved around what the rich and powerful want and it is never justice.

This investigation into the so call collusion by President Trump.
