Evening Edition - December 31

December 31, 2018 |

Today is New Year’s Eve, so I wanted to be the first to wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year!  I thought I’d also use today to catch up with some news from the past week, and to take a look back at 2018.

First of all, let’s dispense with the news you might have missed while enjoying your Christmas break (and no, I will not call it “Winter Break,” as public schools now do – who in their right mind celebrates the coming of winter, other than owners of ski resorts and peddlers of cold remedies?)

The partial government shutdown continues, and it will be interesting to see how long it will continue past New Year’s Day before anyone notices it.  Democrats who think it will only harm Republicans to keep it dragging on should think about whether they really want Americans pondering why so many government employees are considered non-essential when we have a $21 trillion+ national debt.

Of course, the PR arm of the Democratic Party, by which I mean the mainstream media, is running 24/7 negative stories, blaming President Trump for the shutdown and touting polls showing that a majority of Americans want Trump and Congressional Democrats to compromise on funding a border wall -- even though the White House reportedly offered to accept $2.5 billion instead of $5 billion, which is sort of the definition of “compromise.” I wonder how you can possibly compromise with someone like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who channeled his inner Taylor Swift in declaring that they will never, ever, ever fund a border wall?

When Democrats rejected Trump’s $5 billion request, claiming it was too expensive, that was laughable enough, considering that to them, $5 billion in tax money is couch cushion change.  It enters the realm of the absurd when they make the same claim about $2.5 billion, which for them is like the “Take a penny” tray at the 7-11 cash register.

As I noted last week, the Democrats’ willingness to shut down the government rather than do anything to secure the border and enforce laws on illegal immigration marks a historic milestone for “The Party of Big Government.”  They’ve actually found something more important to them than government: protecting illegal immigration.

That position might be harder to keep defending, considering the news piling up regarding illegal immigration, which includes:

A man who is reportedly an illegal immigrant with gang affiliations and two previous DWI arrests (yet who was still walking around free in California, of course) was arrested for allegedly killing a sheriff’s deputy in Bakersfield who stopped him on suspicion of drunk driving (incidentally, the deputy was a legal immigrant from Fiji)…

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/california-sheriff-unloads-sanctuary-state-law-brutal-officer-slaying/

…ICE is releasing hundreds of migrants a day in El Paso, where the city is struggling to deal with housing them and giving medical treatment to those carrying diseases…

https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/25/us/el-paso-immigrants-ice-christmas/index.html

And yet another caravan of up to 15,000 migrants is forming in Honduras, although it’s possible they might be planning to stay in Mexico.

Some more news to catch you up to date:

President Trump personally intervened to make sure the Coast Guard got paid during the government shutdown…

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/washington-secrets/trump-personally-intervened-to-pay-coast-guard-in-shutdown

Nancy Pelosi announced plans to form a “Climate Crisis Committee” to combat CO2 emissions after flying thousands of miles to a luxurious Hawaiian resort…

America’s oldest military veteran, World War II vet Richard Overton, died last Thursday in Texas at 112.  He was also believed to be the oldest living American.  A beloved local character in Austin, he was famous for his sense of humor and credited his long life to God, whiskey and his 12 daily cigars.  His advice for having a long life: “Keep living, don’t die.”  I’m sorry he couldn’t keep taking his own advice even longer, but he lived a remarkable, as well as remarkably long, life.  Click the link to read more.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/nations-oldest-military-veteran-dead-at-112

A company owned by Comcast released a pro-abortion video for kids on Facebook that’s getting a lot of well-deserved horrified commentary.  Several commenters had a great suggestion: now that they’ve shown kids a heartless, selfish, oblivious person who laughs about how meaningless her abortion was, how about showing them an interview with someone who survived an abortion?

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/comcast-funded-company-posts-disturbing-video-kids-brainwashed-abortion-activist/

Having been gone a week, there’s lots of “fake news” to catch you up on.  For instance…

The much-ballyhooed “Trump official” who reportedly resigned in outrage over Trump’s decision to withdraw our troops from Syria was actually the same Obama holdover who personally oversaw sending that planeload of cash to Iran and who was set to leave in February anyway…

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2018/12/24/trump-fact-checks-media-brett-mcgurk-responsible-for-pallets-of-cash-to-iran/

NBC News, under criticism, finally backed down from its claim that President Trump snubbed the troops by not visiting them for Christmas, after it was revealed that he and Melania did make a secret trip to Iraq the day after Christmas.

https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/2018/12/27/the-thrust-of-this-article-is-no-longer-correct-nbc-news-backs-down-from-fake-news-hit-on-trump-troops-christmas/

NBC tried to finesse its blunder by faulting Trump for not visiting the troops before or on Christmas Day, a distinction that the troops, who welcomed him warmly, seem not to give a flying fig about.

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/ap-poll-trump-good-news-military-vets/

Then, CNN burnished its reputation as a 24/7 Trump Smear Machine by actually suggesting that airmen at Ramstein Air Base in Germany might have violated military regulations against engaging in partisan political activities by asking Trump to autograph MAGA caps, which he did.  The Air Force replied that there is no rule against airmen bringing personal items to be signed by the President, and they did nothing wrong.

https://www.military.com/daily-news/2018/12/27/air-force-nothing-improper-airmens-pro-trump-merchandise-ramstein.html

The New York Times couldn’t admit that Trump did something positive or brave, so it tried to take attention away from the obvious mutual respect between him and the troops by dragging up an unsourced innuendo about his draft deferment from 50 years ago.  All it proved was that the Times’ slogan, “All the news that’s fit to print,” no longer applies.

https://spectator.org/forever-nipping-at-his-heels/

Finally, no, Trump did not hold out for border wall funding because Rush Limbaugh told him to.

https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/jeffrey-lord/2018/12/29/medias-meltdown-over-rush-limbaugh

And what would New Year’s Eve be without a look back at some high- (and low-) lights of the previous year?

Sen. Rand Paul released his 2018 edition of “The Waste Report,” his annual round-up of the most egregious wastes of taxpayer money.   They included $10 million to support tourism in Egypt, $50,000 to teach female entrepreneurs in India how to “vlog,” $200,000 to put on plays in Afghanistan; and from the science grants at the NIH, over $2.4 million to study daydreaming, nearly $76,000 to blow leaf blowers at lizards, and $874,503 to study the sex habits of quails on cocaine.  I think the NIH grants are also being handed out by quails on cocaine.

https://www.paul.senate.gov/news/dr-rand-paul-releases-2018-%E2%80%98festivus%E2%80%99-edition-%E2%80%98-waste-report%E2%80%99

For those with a masochistic bent, News Busters compiled a list of the most hateful media assaults on conservatives.  It was a year of such over-the-top leftist hysteria that a columnist who compared the tax cut to the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 barely made the top 10.

https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/geoffrey-dickens/2018/12/25/year-review-hating-conservatives

Blogger David Tomlinson proved Longfellow’s claim that those whom the gods would destroy they first make mad by revisiting a year’s worth of insane “Social Justice Warrior” wokeness from various leftwing media figures, alleged academics and other self-appointed moral superiors.  Let's hope the peak madness on display means the destruction of this trend is very close at hand.

https://davidthompson.typepad.com/davidthompson/2018/12/the-year-reheated.html

Townhall’s Beth Bauman performed a herculean feat of editing by narrowing down Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Top 7 Political Blunders of the Year (this doesn’t even include her suggestion that Joseph, Mary and the Baby Jesus were refugees instead of people being forced to go to ridiculous lengths to comply with the government’s tax laws, which you’d think she’d support.)

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/bethbaumann/2018/12/29/congresswomanelect-alexandria-ocasiocortezs-top-7-political-gaffes-of-2018-n2538232

Finally, because I know you could use a laugh or two right now, here’s humorist Dave Barry’s year in review column for 2018.  My favorite line: In February, the Chinese space station “plunges back to Earth and, in a worst-case outcome, fails to land on attorney Michael Avenatti, thus enabling him to continue appearing on CNN more often than the Geico gecko.”

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/magazine/wp/2018/12/30/feature/dave-barrys-year-in-review-2018/?utm_term=.bbc0f111440e

Have a happy and safe New Year’s Eve, and I’ll see you in 2019, which I hope will not be a repeat of 2018, which like 2017, was, for way too many people, an endless rehash of 2016!

    Preacher Huckabee,

I hate to inform you that Yahshua, Jesus, was NOT born on December 25. As a pastor, you should know this.
Follow the time line between the birth of John the Baptist, and Yahshua. You should come up with the first day of the first month of Sukkot, which is in September. Also, a shepherd is not going to be out with his flock in winter, as they do not mate when it is cold.
You see, Constantine loved to look at the sun. So much that he made up the god of the sun, and emulated the story of the birth of Yahshua. If you research, you will learn this. Also, the KJV Bible is very flawed. The other Bibles, that are not Hebrew, were written by the new world order. Some are missing chapters, some verses, some entire books. However, the KJV is the best resource next to the Hebrew Bible

Finally, no, Trump did not hold out for border wall funding because Rush Limbaugh told him to.

For those with a masochistic bent, News Busters compiled a list of the most hateful media assaults on conservatives.  It was a year of such over-the-top leftist hysteria that a columnist who compared the tax cut to the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 barely made the top 10.

I once commented to you that I thought All the Media gathered at the same Group Think Watering Hole to obtain their talking points and after forcing myself to watch the Progressive so called "NEWS" outlets I no longer "Think" it's true, sadly it's a FACT. Even the Dim Wits seem to be peeking in.
