Border Crisis

By Mike Huckabee

The crisis at the border continues to intensify, even as the Biden White House continues to deny it’s a crisis – even while sending FEMA to help. FEMA is the agency that deals with disasters, and the “E” in its name stands for “Emergency.” So it’s not a “crisis,” it’s just a disaster and an emergency. That’s reassuring.

Here are a few of the latest developments in the non-crisis at the border:

Axios claims to have obtained a leaked document showing that 3,314 unaccompanied minors have been held in detention facilities (none dare call them “kids in cages” anymore) for longer than the legal maximum of 72 hours, and 823 have spent over 10 days there. New Jersey Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy tweeted that he just "left the border processing facility" and witnessed hundreds of children packed into "big open rooms."

And Biden dares call the Governor of Texas a “Neanderthal” just for lifting the state mask mandate? Seems to me that the biggest danger to Texas of a COVID superspreader event is Biden’s border policy.

Biden’s solution to the overcrowded detention centers isn’t to reinstate the Trump policies he reversed or finish building the wall. No, he has a better idea: US taxpayers will be billed $86 million for the cost of providing illegal entrants with free hotel rooms. Tell them there's no Room Service; maybe that will discourage them from coming here.

Remember when we used to talk about how stupid it was to release illegal border crossers on the US side of the border, on their pinky-swear promise to return for a later court date? Well, Biden must agree, because Fox News reports that Border Patrol agents are now allowing them to go without even bothering to schedule a court date.

Say, do you know what you call it when you don’t turn back illegal immigrants but let them go free in America without even scheduling a court date? “OPEN BORDERS!” Biden’s half-hearted warning that our border is closed is about as effective as leaving your front door open when you go on vacation, with a Post-It note on it saying, “Please don’t rob me.”

(That article also includes some comments from the former acting director of ICE who believes this border surge is not due to incompetence but is quite deliberate and created by design.)

Meanwhile, Biden’s attempts to block the media from seeing the disaster he’s wrought at the border are so egregious that (hold on to your hats!) even CNN is criticizing him for them.

Finally, former President Trump issued a blistering statement about how badly Biden has botched border security, deliberately destroying a system that would have worked on autopilot if he’d just left it alone. Trump accused Biden of causing “death and human tragedy” and warned, "The only way to end the Biden Border Crisis is for them to admit their total failure and adopt the profoundly effective, proven Trump policies."

Here’s Trump’s statement in full.

With each passing day, the magnitude of the crisis on the border grows, the attempts to downplay it and block the public from seeing it become more transparent, and the claim that it’s somehow Trump’s fault and Biden just “inherited” it looks ever more ludicrous. At this point, Democrats blaming Biden’s monumental mess on Trump is like someone letting Grandpa drive their car and when he crashes it through the front window of Piggly-Wiggly, blaming it on the guy who owned the car before they did.

Teen Vogue

By Mike Huckabee

I’ve been writing for a long time about Teen Vogue, how it pushes far-left radical dogma and pornographic sexual content to impressionable young people, and how allowing your kids to read it is tantamount to child abuse. So it’s been eye-opening to watch the cancel culture eat its own with the recent forced resignation of newly-hired editor Alexi McCammond, after a Teen Vogue staffer accused her of “past racist and homophobic tweets.”

But now, the story has taken an interesting twist. The staffer who was so proud of herself for getting McCammond canceled (senior social media manager Christine Davitt) is herself accused of sending several tweets back in 2009 and 2010 in which she used the n-word. This was well before Teen Vogue ran its 2019 article, “Stop Using the N-Word If You’re Not Black” (she’s not.) But that doesn’t matter: cancel culture has taught us that everyone in history must be judged and condemned by whatever standards were just invented five minutes ago.

As Rick Moran points out at the linked article, it will be very entertaining to see if Teen Vogue engages in a double standard and excuses Davitt while driving out McCammond for the same thing. Or will the cancel culture devour itself, and Davitt end up being “fed to the crocodiles”…“blackballed, tarred, feathered, and run off the internet on the proverbial rail for transgressing against woke theology”?

It will indeed be interesting to see what happens…as long as nobody has to read Teen Vogue to find out.

Not that the Vogue magazine for alleged adults is doing any better. Once imperious Vogue editor Anna Wintour caved to the woke mob in jettisoning McCammond, and she’s been forced to apologize for various PC infractions, such as not featuring enough black content creators.

But Tiana Lowe at the Washington Examiner makes the best point of all: these “woke” young staffers screaming for the heads of their politically incorrect superiors are working for a publication that panders to the rich, revels in income inequality, promotes elitism, helped revive fur as a fashion staple, and commits countless other PC crimes against their socialist utopian ideals. If they actually believed in those leftist principles, they’d all resign immediately. Somehow, I don't see that happening.

A Plan To Challenge Pelosi

By Mike Huckabee

Georgia Republican Rep. Andrew Clyde owns a gun store, but he wasn’t armed when he twice bypassed the metal detectors Speaker Nancy Pelosi had installed at the House. She was her typical smug, lecturing self when she scolded Republicans for “disrespecting our heroes by refusing to adhere to basic precautions keeping members of our congressional community safe,” and fined Clyde $5,000 for the first incident and $10,000 for the second. She also fined Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert, saying, “It is beyond comprehension why any member would refuse to adhere to these simple, common-sense steps to keep this body safe.”

But now, Clyde has revealed that he and Gohmert actually wanted her to fine them, and for a very good reason: it was part of a plan to give them legal standing to file a federal lawsuit against her, challenging the Constitutionality of her metal detectors. Clyde plans to go to the House Ethics Committee first, but since that’s run by Democrats, he’s already prepared to move on to federal court.

Click the link for more details, including the very reasonable argument that if Pelosi really believed House members were in danger from an invasion of armed insurrectionists, why would she be trying to take away House members’ best means of self-defense?

Speaking of all those security measures to hold back the hordes of invisible insurrectionists, there are growing signs that even the Democrats realize how much they overplayed their hand in pushing that melodramatic political theater. It flopped with the public, so they’re now quietly trying to back down off the stage and surreptitiously pack away the props without anyone noticing.

Key “amen” portion of the article at that link: “We do not live in a dictatorship, and our political leaders should be ashamed for perpetuating this farce. When Republicans retake the House in 2022, as I suspect they will, they should tear down what remaining nonsense remains.”

I couldn't agree more, although I suspect that by 2022, there will so much built-up nonsense to be torn down and hauled off that they’ll need a bulldozer and a fleet of garbage trucks.

News You Should Know

Tech leaders agree with Congress that we need to rein in AI development

The two parties in Congress can’t seem to agree on much these days, but at least they can agree with many of the rest of us that the rapid development of artificial intelligence is frightening and needs to be reined in.  Elon Musk, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and other tech giants signed an open letter calling for a six-month pause in advanced AI development, citing “profound risks to society and humanity” (see any "Terminator" movie.) The question is, can the dangers of artificial intelligence be held back by Congress, which isn’t famous for possessing natural intelligence? And even if they do pass some sort of regulation, that won’t stop its development in other nations, like China. This is a worldwide threat, but how do you regulate it when it’s going on all over the world? And please don’t suggest that we need a one-world government overseen by benevolent robots.

U.S. Senate: The COVID-19 “emergency” is done

Another thing on which at least some Congress members of both parties agree is that the COVID-19 “emergency” is done. Yesterday, 21 Senate Democrats joined Republicans to pass a resolution declaring the pandemic to be over. It passed by 68-23 in the Senate after passing the House by 229-197. President Biden opposes the bill but will sign it. Incidentally, it comes months after he said himself that the pandemic is over. A White House official said, “The administration will continue working with agencies to wind down the national emergency with as much notice as possible to Americans who could potentially be impacted.” I have the feeling that it’s not Americans who are being impacted as much as it’s the agencies that don’t want to give up the power. Too bad. They’ve become the cure that’s worse than the disease. COVID is now endemic and we have to live with it forever, but that doesn’t mean we have to live with a government that uses the guise of a health emergency to trample on our Constitutional rights forever.

James O’Keefe uncovers what looks to be massive Democrat campaign scheme

It didn’t take Project Veritas founder and former director James O’Keefe long to regain his footing and get back in business. Now head of O’Keefe Media Group (OMG), and training “citizen journalists” across the country, he’s released a video revealing what appears to be a huge, nationwide money scheme for laundering campaign contributions, using senior citizens with “a similar profile” to get the job done. The story came from Election Watch, a group of “citizen journalists” in Maryland. They combed through FEC records and found that some elderly individuals of seemingly modest means had given amazing amounts of money --- into the six figures --- to left-wing groups such as ActBlue, typically parceled out in dribs and drabs as if to avoid detection. This is yet another stunning-but-not-surprising story involving corruption within the Democrat Party. So far, only this video has been released; we’ll have more information soon.

The spiritual side of our lives really does matter

When I was growing up, my bedtime ritual always included a fairy tale that started with “Once upon a time...” and ended with the comforting words we all remember: “And they lived happily ever after.” As a child of the optimistic 1950s, I dreamed that life might be like that: whatever obstacles, dangers or perils might come my way, in the end, I would live happily ever after.

Why Art and Music Are Essential in Schools

Aside from letting leftist indoctrination take over our public school system, the biggest mistake we conservatives made in education over the years was in thinking that art and music classes were expendable luxuries and should be slashed to concentrate on “the three ‘R’s.” Not only are art and music classes important in themselves, but they are also beneficial to helping students excel in other subjects, including math and reading.

A blank book of pages

The first school in which we enroll, and the most important in shaping our future, is our home. A casual view of modern TV shows might lead us to believe that parents don’t matter. How to prevent young people from falling prey to socialism

I got a comment from a reader arguing that one reason young people fall prey to socialism (aside from being brainwashed by their teachers) is that they feel the capitalist system is failing them. They were told they had to get college degrees if they wanted good jobs, and encouraged to take out huge student loans. Now, they’re saddled with crippling debt, and those degrees aren’t opening the doors to jobs that pay enough to ever get out of the hole.

Teen Vogue
