Mike Huckabee's Commentary On The News

When a lie gets repeated so often that everyone thinks it’s true, it’s called “conventional wisdom” – maybe because it happens so often at political conventions. These days, the conventional wisdom is that Americans are clamoring for cradle-to-grave Socialism. Don’t buy it.

Throughout the Bush-Obama era, the media kept repeating “failed conservative policies” until even a lot of so-called conservatives believed it. Well, what a difference a few years make. We tried leftist policies. They resulted in a sluggish economy, depressed job growth, rising income inequality, reduced wealth and opportunities for minorities, rising class and racial divisions, and abroad, a decline in US prestige and leadership and the advancement and emboldening of our enemies, including a terrorist “JV team” metastasizing into a worldwide threat.

Polls began to show that most Americans wanted the government to do less and spend less. In France, where an actual Socialist was elected President, his huge tax hikes crashed the economy and made socialism as popular with the French as cheese in a can. The media were shocked when voters turned right in the next election. They should’ve known that nothing turns people off of socialism like actually experiencing it. Ask a Cuban or Venezuelan. The elites responded by doubling down on the arrogance, condescension and name-calling of those who dared to challenge their divine right to rule. The people were forced to make their point even more clearly by shutting down large sections of the country with Tea Party protests, and demanding their culture and secure national borders back, and finally by shocking the elites with the election of Donald Trump.

Trump reversed virtually every Obama policy. Result: ISIS was crushed, peace started breaking out in the Middle East, illegal immigration plummeted, the economy boomed, and unemployment for all groups fell to record lows while real wages rose for the first time in decades. It took the artificial shutdown of that economy due to COVID-19 to crush it. Now, as it’s starting to rush back, we have Biden crushing it and bringing back Middle East violence and illegal immigration, plus skyrocketing crime and inflation, simply by reversing all of Trump’s policies.

If you ever wanted a laboratory demonstration of whose policies work and whose don’t, you could just look at the past three Administrations prior to President Trump. It’s like watching someone turn off the lights, turn them back on, then turn them off again.

It is a shame that voters have to keep relearning the hard way that top-down, big government solutions and leftist utopian fantasies don’t work in reality. Young people can almost be excused for believing in socialism for the same reason they believe in the Tooth Fairy: they are empty vessels who get filled with whatever adults pour into them. As many parents have recently realized, we’ve been dangerously remiss in allowing leftists to take over our schools and fill those precious vessels with mental pollution.

But Republicans who promised small government and fiscal responsibility have let us down, too. Too many let deficits skyrocket, stuffed budgets with pork, and became cheerleaders for big government and disdainful toward the very Americans who put them in office. These so-called “conservatives” slammed me in 2007 for not being a “real conservative” because I pointed out problems in the economy that were hurting working people and criticized the lack of oversight of Wall Street’s excesses. Two years later, they wanted to spend $700 billion of our grandkids’ money to save Wall Street from its excesses. They abandoned government’s rightful role as a tough-but-impartial referee and wanted to use its power to pick winners and losers in the market. Is that “real conservatism?”

The truth is that voters didn’t turn their backs on conservatism, Republican politicians did. Democrats didn’t sweep to power in 2008 by claiming to be government-bloating tax-and-spenders, but by swearing they’d changed and were now fiscally responsible. Of course, once they gave Obama, Pelosi and Reid unlimited power, voters quickly realized their terrible mistake and gave the House back to the GOP in the next election. But too many Republicans had already squandered their credibility, so when Democrats ballooned the deficit, they could deflect criticism by simply pointing at their opponents’ own record.

In 2020, the endless media assaults on Trump and the false messaging that Biden was a moderate centrist hoodwinked the voters yet again into putting the Democrats back into power. From his first day in power, he surrounded himself with people who can’t wait to bloat government, reversed all of Trump’s successful policies, and started pushing to raise taxes, spend money like water, regulate everything that moves, and turn the whole country into a coast-to-coast version of one of the failing cities Democrats have run for decades. Only a few months in, buyers’ remorse has hit Americans harder than COVID-19.

Another example: New Yorkers lived through the nightmare of the Dinkins years, elected Republican Rudy Giuliani, who miraculously saved the city (ignoring Democrats who routinely called him a Nazi and a fascist) and then Bloomberg, who continued Rudy’s policies and kept it going. Then for some unfathomable reason, New Yorkers decided they were tired of a well-run, successful city, or had become so complacent that they thought NYC could run itself, so they elected Dinkins’ protégé, Bill DeBlasio. Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it. Look at NYC now, and look at how many voters are desperate to get rid of DeBlasio.

From Jefferson’s belief that government closest to the people governs best to Reagan’s faith in free markets, from low taxes to letting markets instead of government make business decisions, conservative ideas work whenever they’re tried. Unfortunately, party leaders and the media are wildly out of touch with most Americans, and they are the ones with Hollywood, the media and social media acting as a 24-hour PR apparatus for bad leftist policies. This amplifies the liberal side and suppresses the conservative side so much that not only is the tail wagging the dog, but it’s like a Chihuahua’s tail wagging a St. Bernard. Too often, they succeed in hookwinking the voters into giving them more power, despite decades of failure.

But as that great Republican Abraham Lincoln observed, you can fool some of the people all of the time (they’re called “progressives”) and all the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time. Let’s pray that 2022 will be one of those “won’t get fooled again” elections.

    Dear Gov. Huckabee
When I see you refer to the great Republican president Abraham Lincoln I cringe. I implore you to at least look at 3 books The Real Lincoln, Lincoln Unmasked, and The Problem with Lincoln all by Thomas J. DiLorenzo. If nothing else read the synopsis of each on Amazon it might peak you interest. The cult of Lincoln has been teaching and spewing misinformation about this man since 1865 and continues to this day. Remember he is the only president we have had that declared Total War on the citizens of his country. Is credited with things he didn't do. Even his personal secretary John Hay said "Lincoln would not have been revered had he not been assassinated" this is on record. Lincoln was a tyrant, a Marxist and a carry over of the defunct Whig party. The author has gone to great lengths to document his work. So please just give it a glance perhaps it may enlighten you or not. But it will be food for thought.

Deav V Jacobson you are full of it. Lincoln fought for Black's as equals his whole life until he was murdered for it. Gone with the Wind wasn't real pal. Shame on you.

And Trump was great on Twitter and won all debates against brain dead Biden.
Trump 2024 or I and millions of MAGA stay home.

Hi, I'm an Aussie pastor from the land down under. I'm also a writer who writes books, music and quotes. Here's one of my quotes: "The way the western media portrayed Joe Biden in the lead up to the 2020 elections is noteworthy. I expect him to be nominated for sainthood at any time."

    Blessings and thanks,

Seriously, Mike, you need need to stop blaming people for the fact that Trump was not re-elected. The election was STOLEN and Biden is an illegitimate “president” due to massive voter fraud. We, as a country, NEED to ensure the integrity of every election going forward.

The only people that were fooled in the 2020 election are the ones that think they were fair and honest!! Also, I get so tired of people saying that there wasn't enough fraud to change the results, how on earth would anyone know this unless it is investigated, but there is no place where any fraud can be justified in an election held in the United States of America.....

2022 will not be the great turnaround you keep predicting if we still have the same election fraud going on. Democrats in control won’t allow changes to the voting standards they instituted to maintain power.

I agree totally with your hypothesis brother Mike! Both parties have so let us down it's beyond sad. When all those companies, banks, auto manufacturers were bailed out it was inconceivable. Congress has lost total comprehension of the working family and small businesses it seems. I was for President Trumps policies but feel he let us down with his twitter chatter and ineffective debate with his challenger. I'm not sure who is best to lead but Desantis seems our best shot! Or you or Sarah! Thank you for the great articles you put out. Keep them up! God bless!

I won't ever believe that the majority of the American people were so naive to vote for Biden. I truly believe that the election was stolen. The record turn out for president Trump should have resulted in his re-election. The protests of the democrats over analyzing the election results and persuing election integrity speak louder than words. They can only "win" an election through less than honorable means. Thank you for your diligent reporting of the truth. I respect you and the work you do

Uninformed/misinformed voters are the bane of our Republic, if socialist programs work so well, why are socialist cities in America falling apart? Common sense would go a long way, I don't want everyone to think like me, but I do wish they would think for themselves and quit pushing communism, a failed system of government.

    Governor:
You keep using the canard: "that fought a bloody civil war to end slavery". I trust that you believe this, but indeed the War pf Northern Aggression was far more complex. The fact that Lincoln' Emancipation Proclamation was directed only at slaves in the South and not the slaves in the North shows his thinking of using the EP as a political sanction. Remember that when the colonies signed on to the US Constitution, the representation was that the joining was to be binding as long as it served each state. Many years before the Lincoln provocation at Ft Sumpter which caused the South to fire on the fort, there has been a trade imbalance that the South had tried to resolve in the Congress. Taxes levied on cotton exports were a burden to the South and finished products from the North were did not suffer taxation. So the issue of slavery, while an issue, was not the central issue and I really am unhappy that our current politic has offered President Lincoln a standing he does not deserve. I know that he who wins the war writes the history, so that is what is going on, regardless of the false standing of Lincoln freeing the slaves. His stated position was the the black man was not worthy of integration into white society and planned to return blacks to Africa. This thinking was fairly common in the 1860s, but he did not free the slaves for their benefit.
I love your newsletter and in most I agree with you and support the US Constitution. The wisdom of our founders must be recognized and fostered.

I am retired 69 year old female. I agree, that we can’t just throw away our American history because we are now all racists. Biden has caused more racism in this country, we are more divided than ever.
The silent majority are in fear to speak out about our allegiance to America.
It is frightening to live in a country being trashed by its own people.
I love God and I love America.
I will continue to pray and be strong.

Mike please explain to me where Faucci has the right to force us to wear masks, and now wear goggles. ? Yep. what real authority does this person have. Who gives him the right to start taking the right of the people away with his opinion only ? Is he just a puppet for the WHO determined to cause disruption to the American people ? This has to stop but I don't see anyone stepping in to knock him off his pedestal. There is so very much confusion on what is what and by who. It is some one or Group..(Dems) taking our freedom away for their own power and control of this great country of America. Trying to keep us out of communication and keep us home in fear so that the polls can be manipulated with mail in ballots. Why are we not hearing more from Pro-Americans to defend out Constitution ? Judicial Watch is doing so very much but the low life's controlling the House , FBI and CIA are skipping out. No one is being held accountable. WHY?
Every day I PRAY that someone or somehow all the lies and dishonesty blows up in their faces.
Some of us cannot go to our Governor because they are promoting there own agenda and disregarding equality for all. Yes I live in a blue state and he's destroying it.
I know I speak for others with frustration on the issues. Other than Jesus and God coming down, we have to help ourselves with his help. WE THE PEOPLE need a way to stop the Dems however it is almost impossible with the corrupt mail in ballot process.
I would like your input on my and others frustrations. What else is there ?

Thank you so very much for allowing me to vent.

Mike the real problem is twofold. 1) the republicans made abortions and gay marriage their capstone pieces of their agenda. This has ostracized many voters and caused numerous people to decide the Republican Party is not for them. God loves everyone including gay people and he accepts people as they are then changes them from within in his own way and time. This was a major issue and still continues. You lose more people every year. 2). You all continue to support trump unequivocally even when he is an absolute ninny. Call him out. Let someone run against him. Be honest about his shortcomings. I believe conservative politics is better but trumps version of how he treats people has not made him much of a poster child. Many people are having a hard time with the lack of transparency in republicans not that the democrats do any better. But when they have media power they can often make themselves look better. But republicans can be much better. I wish you or someone else people could respect a bit more than trump would run. Skyline who is willing to work with both sides and bring healing. Even if they ran now they would win.
