I recently shared a meme comparing photos of two cities, Detroit and Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945 and today, to show that liberal Democrat governance is more destructive to a city over the long haul than an atomic bomb attack.  When a city’s voters keep electing a leftwing government year after year, you can reasonably expect that the quality of life will start to plummet.  I’m always baffled as to why voters don’t realize that.  I guess all those years of Democrats demonizing Republicans as racist monsters has convinced these cities' voters not to even try anything different, just keep slowly sinking into the quicksand.

But if you are cursed with incompetent liberal leaders, the least you could hope for is that they wouldn’t be actively working to make the city worse.  By that measure, residents of Austin really drew the short (non-plastic) straw.  The city was already so liberal, Texans refer to it as “the people’s republic of Austin.”  Then, over the holidays, city leaders voted to allow homeless people to set up tents and camp and sleep anywhere, even on sidewalks (one exception: not at city hall, where the politicians have to work.  But anywhere else that will make life difficult, dangerous and unsanitary for people who don’t work at city hall.)

The deliberate move to turn a once-beautiful city into a garbage-strewn homeless camp so angered the Republican state government that has to share the capital city that Gov. Greg Abbott threatened to override it.  But that may take waiting for the next legislative session.  And (surprise!) homeless people are already pouring in and pitching tents all over.

And where is Mayor Steve Adler?  I hesitate to say, for fear it will drive any remaining sane Austin residents around the bend.  But Adler is out on the West Coast, visiting the leaders of Seattle and Los Angeles, to find out how they deal with issues like mass transit and homelessness.  In the most chilling tweet in history, Adler wrote that he’s “in L.A., learning.”

https://pjmedia.com/trending/austins-mayor-takes-west-coast-junket-to-learn-how-to-fail-bigger/

He didn’t need to go all the way to the West Coast for that.  He could have learned from reading the news out of L.A. that residents are fleeing to escape the garbage, feces, discarded drug needles, fleas and typhus that are epidemic because of policies exactly like the one he just instituted in Austin.  Ironically, a lot of them are moving to Texas.

As Bryan Preston points out at the link, instead of going to left coast, leftist cities that are dying, Adler could have saved a lot of traveling and learned how to run a city well by going to a city in Texas (other than his.)

Maybe this is just Adler’s way of insuring that the crowds fleeing failed leftist policies in California don’t move to Austin, because the way he’s running it, what would be the difference?

Mike, do people just not care about the people that run for office? It’s of paramount importance that we vote for the ones who are responsible and put forth ideas for bettering these cities and states! Anybody can LISTEN and put 2 and 2 together! Our country DEPENDS on us!

    Governor Huckabee
Isn't it interesting the Alyssa Milano will stand up for mistreated animals but not an innocent, defenseless baby in the womb? I am not degrading the value of animals, they are also God's creatures, but we, as people are made in God's image. That's worth fighting for.

Thank you Governor Huckabee for keeping us informed about the disintegration of the left. Although it is very sad reading it is also very enlightening how the absence of common sense is so prevalent in those on the left. It is almost like the Nazi's experiments in the 40's to create a perfect race. They failed and aperently so have the Democrats as they seem to be getting dumber by the year.

    Mr. Huckabee,
I don't understand how the homeless are being assisted with this process. Daily I hear the democrats touting the lack of morality by republican leaders but as I see it, the homeless now are being used by the liberal party as pawns for a political chess match. It's sad. Money that we are currently allocating for an unnecessary immigration crisis could be utilized for aid to the homeless. It would not surprise me to find that a criminal element will now be able to hide among and take advantage of the homeless. We heard the speaker of the house and other liberals this past weekend aid and abet law breaking immigrants and known felons by giving advice on how to avoid US legal authority. (Why can't they be prosecuted?) I am suspicious and concerned about the true reason for the invitation to homeless persons to locate in Austin and other major cities.

It seems those who are far leftist have a lack of common sense. They don't see the destruction they're causing, because they can't get these crazy thoughts out of their heads. Just wonder if they watch to much of the "Walking Dead". Really, the question is what would this world be like without crazy insane people? HEAVEN! We all have some crazy in us... But there is a problem when some get so power hungry their hearts & minds get lost. In God's unfailing Word, His Love for us is unconditional. Without Jesus we are all lost. There is no rhyme or reason, just selfish, impulsive, outrageous thoughts & actions. Praying they will see the truth of God's Love, in Jesus name.

Growing up in the Dallas metroplex during the 50’s, 60’s, and early 70’s the Texas I remember is much different from that which exists today. I remember when to be “Texan” meant you were taught self-reliance, honesty, hard work, and respect for your elders (authority figures). I never ever heard my parents complain about high property taxes. Then, the Dems moved in. Now, Texas has the third or fourth highest property taxes in the nation. Cities like Austin, which I visited as part of my senior trip in high school, was the crown jewel of Texas... a beautiful city in every way. Now, it saddens me to read the Dems in charge of the city are making it into a cesspool and a den of iniquity. We have certainly lost our way and our moral compass in this country... thanks in a large part to a political party that’s not really a political party anymore, but a group of thieves, robbers and charlatans whose sole purpose is to destroy this once beautiful and moral land.
