Perhaps the best source I can point to on what Big Broth—I mean, Big Tech, is doing to conservatives is, ironically, the non-conservative Glenn Greenwald, who has had to “go independent” because of his straightforwardness and is now on Substack, com.

Tuesday, he posted a commentary called “How Silicon Valley, In a Show of Monopolistic Force, Destroyed Parler,” which details the principles of privacy and free speech behind the social media platform and its growth after being set up in August 2018. That growth spiked dramatically after other social media censored the NEW YORK POST’s story about Hunter Biden and started deleting posts even by the President of the United States, labeling them “misinformation.” When Twitter finally terminated Trump’s access, that was enough for millions, and they started leaving in droves for Parler.

As Greenwald notes, the people behind Parler had done exactly what the social media giants had always said to do: If you don’t like the rules we impose, go start your own platform and make your own rules. But when Parler succeeded, they fought dirty to force it out of business. Just when it became the most downloaded app in the country, tech giants Apple, Amazon and Google worked seamlessly as one to abruptly remove it from the internet.

If Parler’s attorney’s are reading, Greenwald offers the perfect opening statement for when their HUGE LAWSUIT reaches court: “If one were looking for evidence to demonstrate that these tech behemoths are, in fact, monopolies that engage in anti-competitive behavior in violation of anti-trust laws, and will obliterate any attempt to compete with them in the marketplace, it would be difficult to imagine anything more compelling than how they just used their unconstrained power to utterly destroy a rising competitor.”

Greenwald tells how this unfolded, starting with a letter from Apple that said they’d received “numerous complaints” and “accusations that the Parler app was used to plan, coordinate, and facilitate the illegal activities in Washington, DC, on January 6, 2021, that led...to loss of life, numerous injuries, and the destruction of property.” It warned that they must submit the requested "moderation improvement plan” within 24 hours or their app would be removed from the Apple app store.

Not surprisingly, the letter was immediately leaked to BUZZFEED, which, not surprisingly, published it in full. Parler tried to communicate with Apple without success. The next day, Apple told Parler that it wouldn’t distribute apps that represent “dangerous and harmful content” and removed them. An app that's not downloaded from the Apple store cannot be used with an iPhone. As Greenwald explains, even if the Parler app has already been downloaded, it won’t be updated, which will soon render the platform “both unmanageable and unsafe.”

Google struck Blow #2, “suspending” Parler from its Play Store, thus severely limiting users’ ability to download it onto Android phones.

The next day, Amazon delivered Blow #3, informing Parler that its web hosting service was terminating them. Parler was then, effectively, offline. Amazon said: “Because Parler cannot comply with our terms of service and poses a very real risk to public safety, we plan to suspend Parler’s account effective Sunday, January 10th...”

In a matter of just a few days, Parler went from being the most popular and fastest-growing app in the country to being banished from the internet.

Leftists, who used to be pro-free speech, are cheering the demise of Parler. Ding, dong, the First Amendment is dead!

But Parler wasn’t designed to be an echo chamber of MAGA-hatted Trump supporters. As Greenwald describes it, “The platform was created based in libertarian values of privacy, anti-surveillance, anti-data collection, and free speech.” It was for people who wanted privacy and didn’t like the idea of being “data-mined.” It was also for those who increasingly objected to the rules about what could or could not be said --- and no, that doesn't apply to calls for violence, which are against Parler’s terms of service anyway and are already illegal on any platform.

Explicit calls for violence are rampant on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube (owned by Google). The Capitol breach was planned largely on Facebook and Twitter, including by members of QAnon. No participants have been found to be active on Parler.

Yet it’s the threat of more Capitol Hill-style violence that is purportedly causing Big Tech’s crackdown on Parler. Obviously, that’s just pretense for censoring conservative opinion.

Greenwald’s article is very detailed and examines Big Tech’s close relationship with politicians and the intelligence bureaucracy. It’s a must-read.

On Tuesday, Greenwald, appearing with Tucker Carlson, said Big Tech companies are “acting like nation-states,” with Facebook even setting up “committees” to decide what speech is true, false, dangerous, not dangerous. Sounds as though Winston Smith of 1984 would be right home there.

Greenwald pointed out that even world leaders who are not fans of President Trump, such as Germany’s Angela Merkel, are now speaking out about how dangerous Silicon Valley has become by “anointing itself the world media that controls and is more powerful than their democracies, because they know that’s coming for their democracies as well.”

He elaborated on what he’d said in his commentary, noting that out of the first 13 arrested for Capitol Hill violence, “a total of zero” were active on Parler. Most of the advocacy and planning had been done on Facebook, YouTube (Google) and Twitter. Yet AOC and others with power in the Democrat Party were demanding that Google and Apple “kick Parler off.” If their concern really is to stop violence, why weren’t they calling for Facebook and YouTube to be de-platformed?

Here’s one clue: Biden reportedly got ten times more money from Big Tech than Trump did. The real menace is that they’re working hand in hand now to control all expression. This is blatantly illegal and unconstitutional, but unless you want to talk about how “woke” you are and how much you still hate Trump, the plan is to leave you with cute fuzzy puppies and pictures of food. Any political or societal point of view that doesn’t get the leftist gold star will have to go.

Tucker also hosted Glenn Beck, who said he'd built his own media company in anticipation of this coming. With the current political upheaval and the technological upheaval, he said, these two powers “need each other.”

As a caution, Beck compared what’s happening to what FDR did to Japanese-Americans during World War II, confiscating their wealth, shutting their businesses and, eventually, even isolating them in camps. “You can’t have freedom of speech,” Beck explained, “if you can’t express yourself in a meaningful place.”

“This is like the Germans with the Jews behind the wall,” he said. “...This is the digital ghetto.”

Beck is taking heat, of course, for making that comparison. But as he explained, he wasn’t literally comparing the current situation to Nazi Germany, just using it as an example to show the direction things can move without constitutional protection. He issued a warning: “If you don’t stand up for free speech, you will be the one that loses it as well.”

I was knocked off certain Facebook pages when persons responded to a comment I made. The thread was attributed to me in error by Facebook. I see this a lot. Now I have comments supposedly posted to me that I cannot see from people commenting on post and not my comment. But Facebook tells me I have these comments. That I can do nothing about.

This country fought a lot of wars to be free and to free other countries from tyranny. Now we are facing tyranny from within by extremely wealthy people and corporations. This will only be abated when the people realize that their freedoms are being taken away, bit by bit. They need to get some backbone and drop their FB, Twitter accounts, etc. If they don't, they are complicit in the erosion of our freedoms.

Could you please post the names of the so called republicans who voted to impeach the President? I think we all need to know the names so if they come up for re-election in a state where any of us Trump supporters live we can help to put them out of a job.

I also wish that you would stop implying that there was no evidence the election was stolen. I can't speak for other states, but I know for a fact that the PA election was both unconstitutional and fraudulent. Please don't join the Dems in becoming a "useful idiot" and repeat this poppycock about no evidence. There certainly was evidence. The courts never ruled on that, only on standing.

About 50 years ago I was an active user of Facebook. It was fun to keep up with friends and family plus venting my own commentary about what was going on in our dear country. One morning I opened up my Facebook and found a posting over my name that quoted me with a comment I never made and, worse, was something I never would have made. That was the end of Facebook for me forever. It also was my personal vow to never involve myself in any so-called social media ever again no matter how helpful any of it might be.

I wanted to forward your recent article with the Parler scheme to my golf buddy list. I tried to forward it a few times on my iPad and would NOT allow it. I eventually copied it and created an email. Might be a senior citizen error but I don’t this so. Certainly would not be surprised that apple would go to that level anticompetitive action. In another newsletter you said you couldn’t believe that 38 states would vote to end the electoral college. If they can cheat on votes to end a presidency what can stop them from cheating on any other election.
You also said if more Christians had voted the election results would have been different. My cousin is a Christian and hates President Trump with an incredible level of hatred. She is usually a very passive, mild-mannered person. The vitriol that comes from her in regard to President Trump is something else. There are other Christians who are just as opposed in spite of the fact that one would think a Christian would vote for the Republican platform.

Right as Parler was refused access to Amazon servers and before info was permanently deleted and while presumably users didn't have access a hacker from Europe "scraped" terabytes of info from Parler saying she is saving it for News organizations and the law however has already released some publically. This includes messages, video, people voices, their info and metadata. She and others said in the comments after the article on ArsTechnica they feel justified because it's "only white supremacists" and not people I'd color that were targeted!! It's all over Reddit and has been reported on Twitter and elsewhere.

Hi! I keep hearing/reading that that these media outlets are quickly taking away our rights to “free speech”...and if we continue to let them mow over us like a monster truck then we will have lost. I have not read/heard how to take any action. I’m not (thank goodness) a lawyer nor have tons of money. Am I supposed to sit back and watch my ability to state something go up in flames? AND no, I’ll never expect Washington to help anyone but themselves...so what do I do?

Yes, what country are we now in when these companies built their power per our own Govt who let them and we were enjoying going to their sites not thinking that they would ever take away the freedom of 75 million people WHO are these so called owners. Bezos who made $70 billion in this COVID while other businesses have closed . To take the side of Democrats to keep their investments in CHINA. They did not like what TRUMP was doing to bring back the good jobs here they made their billions off this move there and TRUMP was threatening why they did not want us to talk so others could see the truth. Many black leaders say they the Democrats kept the blacks for their own power and try to use the racism angle If these Techs were so secure why was Parler a theat? WHY? They try to say what was supposedly wrong with Parler while many of them have a lot of bad things they have allowed on internet. Lie and make excuses. See there are World leaders who see what has been done. They have now for us in Georgia used their money to put in a very hateful man to be our Senator. So from now on we only can get what they command and give the millions like the gave to Biden over $10 million WHY? SAD day in this country and what will take it down. We will lose our military as was done per Pres Obama when he booted out thousands and be open to whoever would want to take us over in the future. If there is any war I want first all the children of the Democrats to have to be drafted and serve to defend this country. No more the poor working in this country while the elite sit by in their SWAMP. Sleeping Dogs.

It seems that most of the talk show hosts on Fox News are saying that Pres Trump riled his supporters by saying the Nov 3 election was stolen. I don’t know what happened in other states but I know that there is enough eye witness testimony to at least investigate voter fraud in Georgia. I lost trust our Secretary if State when I learned that he buckled under demands by Stacy Abrams and changed voter regulations.
Yes, folks are mad and rightfully so.
Pelosi and others can even admit that President Trump did wonders for this country and for some reason are set on destroying our democracy. Is it just for power! One thing I do know and the thing that keeps me from lapsing in a state of depression is that God is in control and He does everything for our good. We need to pray hard for our country.

    Thank you Governor,
Although an App is the best choice Parler among others is available as a web application. In addition, the technically savvy can install an App from a company's site.
I'm sure Parler will find a friendly court. If it can demonstrate monopolistic behavior on the part of the defendant triple damages are likely. More probable is the court forcing the defendant(s) into allowing Parler back for some specified time together with a monetary award for lost revenues.
Remember, civil suits have a lower burden of proof and evidence is not required at the time of complaint only that the defendant is likely culpable.
    Good Luck Parler

With all due respect I have to say that Glenn Beck's comparison with censoring and suppressing free speech is simmilar to what the Nazis did. My mother was born there and her story about growing up in West Germany during the war and the occupation is incredible. My grandfather was sent to a German camp for 2 years because my grandmother gave food to a jewish family. All of the Nazi occupation took years to accomplish. It did not happen overnight. This suppression and control is fueled by greed and power and has progressed over the years since 1961. We were sleeping so to speak. I hope it's not too late to be awake.

We the people are losing this battle for freedom. We need a leader like Trump to lead. He should have invoked the insurrection charges. Polusi's husband was behind the invasion of the capital. Pictures prove it.

News You Should Know

Senator Fetterman update

Pennsylvania voters who sent a stroke victim to the Senate couldn’t claim to be surprised when health issues kept John Fetterman from showing up to work for months. But once he did show up, they might be wondering if one of the symptoms is that he forgot how to dress himself. Despite Senate rules requiring proper professional attire, not to mention the basic tradition of dressing like a grown-up when you’re a United States Senator, Fetterman has taken to stalking the halls of the Senate and even showing up to press conferences in a hoodie and gym shorts, looking like an unemployed teenager on spring break. This has sparked complaints that he’s showing zero respect for his job, but don’t worry: Democrats are great at finding ways to work around and evade the rules (see the debt ceiling negotiations.) Instead of voting on the Senate floor, where a jacket and tie are expected, Fetterman yells in his "yeas" or "nays" from the side entrance or the doorway of the Democratic cloakroom, then ducks back out again. See, who said that a man who’d suffered a severe stroke and can't even dress like an adult couldn’t handle all the responsibilities of being a Senator?

Must-Read Column

Law Prof. Glenn Reynolds of the Instapundit blog has an op-ed in the The New York Post on how the biggest threat to our military might be woke DEI indoctrination. It’s weakened what used to be the greatest colorblind meritocracy and strongest fighting force on Earth into a bureaucracy obsessed with skin color, “oppression,” identity politics, transgenderism and other divisive, hot button leftist topics. It’s also actively driving out and repelling the kind of patriotic Americans who used to line up to volunteer for the US military, to the point that recruitment efforts have fallen by a dangerous 25%. Read it and you’ll realize that throwing the current regime out of power ASAP is not only essential to saving our freedom, it’s essential to saving the military that up until now has been the protector of our freedom.

Woke Target adjusts

Despite long being a left-leaning company (the first major retailer to let men go into women’s bathrooms and fitting rooms), Target has somehow managed to escape major blowback from conservative customers. But the wokeness has been pushed too far, and the Bud Light backlash showed conservatives that they don’t have to keep giving their money to people who spit on their values. They’ve tasted blood, and liked it better than Bud Light. So when it was reported that Target was celebrating “Pride Month” by putting on prominent display items like children’s swimsuits for “tucking” male genitals and making boys look like girls and T-shirts and pins created by a “gay trans man” designer who pushes Satanism and guillotining “homophobes,” a lot of customers decided they’d had it. Some Target stores, especially in the South, moved the offensive merch to some less conspicuous spot, and the chain now seems to be having second thoughts about whether it’s a wise business practice to try to shove transgender propaganda aimed at children down their shoppers’ throats. As with their trans swimsuits, they claim to be making “adjustments.”

It seems that most of the talk show hosts on Fox News are saying that Pres Trump riled his supporters by saying the Nov 3 election was stolen.

The First Amendment says’ “Congress shall make no law .. abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press ...” Today the Democrats are using government sanctioned monopolies to do just that. In addition other Democrat aligned businesses like Amazon, insurance companies and banks are refusing to do business with people who engage is “wrongthink”. The spiritual side of our lives really does matter

When I was growing up, my bedtime ritual always included a fairy tale that started with “Once upon a time...” and ended with the comforting words we all remember: “And they lived happily ever after.” As a child of the optimistic 1950s, I dreamed that life might be like that: whatever obstacles, dangers or perils might come my way, in the end, I would live happily ever after.

Why Art and Music Are Essential in Schools

Aside from letting leftist indoctrination take over our public school system, the biggest mistake we conservatives made in education over the years was in thinking that art and music classes were expendable luxuries and should be slashed to concentrate on “the three ‘R’s.” Not only are art and music classes important in themselves, but they are also beneficial to helping students excel in other subjects, including math and reading.

A blank book of pages

The first school in which we enroll, and the most important in shaping our future, is our home. A casual view of modern TV shows might lead us to believe that parents don’t matter. I contend that nothing matters more. When Benjamin West was a boy, his mother left him in charge of his younger sister, Sally. Benjamin found bottles of colored ink and painted Sally’s portrait.

How to prevent young people from falling prey to socialism

I got a comment from a reader arguing that one reason young people fall prey to socialism (aside from being brainwashed by their teachers) is that they feel the capitalist system is failing them. They were told they had to get college degrees if they wanted good jobs, and encouraged to take out huge student loans. Now, they’re saddled with crippling debt, and those degrees aren’t opening the doors to jobs that pay enough to ever get out of the hole.

UPDATE

Here's an excellent blogpost, featuring the commentary of legal expert Jonathan Turley, that agrees completely.

This is not about Facebook per se but having your voice silenced for their error! How do we fight that?

This country fought a lot of wars to be free and to free other countries from tyranny. Now we are facing tyranny from within by extremely wealthy people and corporations. This will only be abated when the people realize that their freedoms are being taken away, bit by bit. They need to get some backbone and drop their FB, Twitter accounts, etc. If they don't, they are complicit in the erosion of our freedoms.

This government-capital alliance is the definition of fascism.

I do see communism in everything the left does. It is hard to believe our country is being run by hateful toddlers. The future is dark for USA, but even more reason to cling to Jesus we must keep our eyes on HIM. This is the beginning of labor pangs.
