Today's Edition

Dov Fischer at The American Spectator has an interesting, depressing, but an ultimately hopeful article on why Trump backers should be encouraged by the current polls, despite national polls showing that virtually any halfway sentient creature that enters the Democrat race will easily beat Donald Trump. It’s depressing because part of the reason is the bias of the polls themselves (which led me to predict a Trump win weeks in advance in 2016, to the smug bemusement of liberal commentators) and part is the ignorance of the general public due to the constant drumbeat of anti-Trump propaganda from 95% of the “news” media (this will be particularly frustrating to readers of my newsletter, because you are so incredibly well-informed!)

But ultimately, it’s hopeful, because as I have pointed out for years, polls taken months or years in advance of an election are meaningless. The vast majority of people have other things to do than follow politics. They don’t start paying attention until sometime after Labor Day of an election year, when the ads crank up and they have to seriously consider what will happen to their jobs, bank accounts and children’s futures, depending on which of these people get into power.

This helps to explain why the Democrats can have prominent voices in their party openly advocating for socialism (some would call their “ideas” outright communism), and even declaring that far-left, radical “revolution” is what they’ve always been about and are finally just coming home to it, and it doesn’t reduce their approval rating to 0.1%.

For now, just let them keep prattling on. They’re creating the Republicans’ campaign commercials for them. I assure you, we’ll see all this again when people who don’t usually follow politics are forced to start paying attention and imagining what their lives would be like with a President Bernie Sanders and AOC running his Cabinet.

With gratitude,

Mike Huckabee

Veterans Day

By Mike Huckabee

I hope you had a great Veterans Day, and that you participated in some of the festivities that help to remind Americans what this day is all about.

President Trump became the first sitting President to accept the invitation to appear in New York City’s Veterans Day Parade, an event he saved years ago with a very generous personal check during a financial crunch. Despite a handful of anti-Trump protest signs from the Usual Gang of Idiots, the event was remarkably free of politics, with even Mayor Bill DeBlasio urging New Yorkers to put that aside for one day to observe something bigger (although that didn't stop some New Yorkers from yelling insults at DeBlasio during the parade, either.)

Trump gave a moving speech, highlighted by the incredible story of Army Master Sergeant Roddie Edmonds standing up to the Nazi guards at a POW camp. I won’t spoil it if you haven’t heard it yet, but you must hear it. You can see the video of the full speech here:

This is another very moving Veterans Day story that I won’t even hint about because I want you to read the whole thing and see the photos. Trust me, you won’t be sorry you clicked on this.

While it happened on the night before Veterans Day, another must-hear moment came at Madison Square Garden, when 96-year-old World War II vet Peter “Harmonica Pete” DePre played the National Anthem before a Knicks game.

Veterans Day was especially happy for 70-year-old Army vet Ernest Dodson of Greensboro, North Carolina, who is finally debt-free with enough money left over to have a little fun after winning a nearly $275,000 jackpot in the Cash 5 state lotto. Although I admit it galls me a bit that he got to keep less than $196,000 of it because the government held back so much of it for taxes.

Mike Rowe of “Dirty Jobs” and “Somebody’s Gotta Do It” (often seen following “Huckabee” on TBN) offered a great tribute to the military as the greatest meritocracy in the world, and a place where people still realize there are higher ideals than constantly arguing over trigger words and safe spaces and other nonsense that divides people into opposing factions instead of adopting the “band of brothers” mentality.

Finally, I’m very pleased to relay that after “Huckabee” on TBN spotlighted the group Patriot Angels on our Veterans Day show this weekend, they got a flood of messages from veterans seeking help in obtaining the benefits they’re entitled to. If you or someone you know is in that situation, you can learn more at

I wanted to make sure you also read this comment:

If you wonder how “journalism” has reached the sorry state that it’s in now, look no further than the “educational” institutions that trained its current practitioners. Reporters used to learn the job by burning shoe leather. Now, it’s something you “learn” in universities, which have become expensive embarrassments in recent years.

Latest cases in point: the Harvard Student Government sided with activists who demanded that the Harvard Crimson stop quoting ICE officials in stories about immigration protests, because only one side of the issue (the one they agree with) should be in the media. And the Daily Northwestern of Northwestern University apologized for “traumatizing” some students by covering a campus appearance by (gird yourselves!) Jeff Sessions, and actually printing the names of protesters who gave the paper quotes about the event.

Here’s a quote from the editors’ astounding drivel, and as a real journalist, Dave Barry, might say, I swear I am not making this up:

“We know we hurt students that night, especially those who identify with marginalized groups.” reporting that Jeff Sessions spoke on campus and actually quoting what people said about it. Or as that used to be known, “practicing journalism.” Well, I accept their apology because I’m sure they’ll never do it again.

(FYI for parents and potential students: the average cost of tuition and fees to get a journalism degree from Northwestern is $54,620 a year. Buyer beware.)

And as long as we’re on the subject of universities kowtowing to delicate leftist snowflakes in ridiculous ways, here’s a Veterans Day twist: The University of Virginia is under fire (ooh, sorry!) for canceling the traditional 21-gun salute to veterans by ROTC cadets, citing anxiety over gun violence. This could mark the first case of someone claiming to be triggered by triggers. I’m happy to report that many people are taking potshots at this idiocy.

On a related subject, the Wall Street Journal has a disturbing piece about how veterans who return to get an education at elite universities are appalled by the spoiled leftist students insulting them and denouncing the rights they risked their lives to defend for them (like the First and Second Amendments) and their sneering insults designed to divide people into warring identity groups, the exact opposite of the merit-based teamwork of the military. The whole article is behind a paywall, but Instapundit has a substantial excerpt here:

There are also a lot of good comments. I especially appreciate those from other veterans who brush off the childish insults from the ignorant and ungrateful junior socialist rich brats. As one put it, military members “have been abused by experts...and we laugh,.”

Bible Verse of the Day (KJV)

"Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer."

Dem Committees RECOMMEND impeachment, after bad-mouthing Trump for weeks. However, Pelosi will TABLE the recommendation in the name of NOBLY not wanting to divide Americans further [which is, of course, due to Trump. Thus, all the negative accusations will get out to the public, while the support, which would come up in the Senate consideration, will not get the publicity.

I forget the names involved, but there recently was another article about a veteran who was, I think, 93. As he was the youngest in a family of 11, he had no surviving siblings. There was no one set up to be pall bearers--until the funeral director contacted the high school coach--and 6 football players became the pall bearers. From what I read about this team, probably all of them volunteered to be the ones.

There was a caller to a talk show yesterday who was trying to tell the host that the host was just making up all the numbers of accomplishment by President Trump. He went on to say the economy was improving the last 3 years under Obama (gee-what about the other 5 years?) and that actually, black unemployment had gone way down under Obama, that President Trump is just taking credit for the big foothold already accomplished by Obama. One sure wonders where some people buy the kookaide they seem to be drinking--but we know it's all prepared by the socialist left and served up all day every day by msm and the socialist leftists in Congress.

I think that most of today's so-called journalists must have sent in a diploma request found on the back of match books (do they still have match books these days?) Very few could have gotten their desire to be a journalist by watching the real ones, or even some of those portrayed in movies and on tv---where they actually checked out the stories, investigated all that surrounded an incident, etc. What did they watch that seemed to make them think--what a glamorous job, being a journalist, sit in front of a tv camera and just read off information!!!! Easy peasy!!!!! I think just as bad as not bothering to check the veracity of a "story" is to, when it is shown to be misinformation, partial information or flat out lies--they don't have the integrity to correct it....or to not make the same mistakes again.

UVA says they are "revisiting" the decision to cancel the 21-gun salute for Veterans' Day 2019. So I guess that means that in 2020 they may reinstate it, but they will have the ROTC cadets yell, "BANG!" instead of using blanks in their guns.

The classic "Dear Greta - let's dialog as adults" by Jason Hill is EXCEPTIONAL!
(excerpt) "...There are a few things that we, the rational adults of the world who are not bowing to you like guilt-ridden obsequious Babbitts need to say to you, Greta.

First, we did not rob you of your childhood or of your dreams. You are the legatee of a magnificent technological civilization which my generation and the one before it and several others preceding it all the way to the Industrial Revolution and the Renaissance, bequeathed to you..."

    Completely unofficial voters poll.
NO ONE thought that Sean Spicer would last on "Dancing With the Stars" longer than one, MAYBE 2 weeks. Fooled them. So - who were those very quiet, very uninformed voters? Could they be (those currently uncounted by the surprised television networks) Trump Supporters? It is my belief that they will also be voting next year.

Thank you for the Veterans day articles. I read them all and did watch the President's impressive speech which didn't receive news coverage he should have received. My husband was forced to spend extra time in Korea against his wishes. under then, President John Kennedy, a democrat. He and his family were democrats who chided me for voting Republican despite the fact they didn't vote. My husband often voted democrat during our 54 year marriage. I don't know what he saw or heard when Trump was running, but he knew from the beginning that he would vote for Trump and did by absentee ballot since he was bed-bound. I only wish he was alive to vote for Trump in 2020.

With all the “Think Tanks” out there, why has not one of them come up with a systematic way to take back our educational institutions?

I enlisted in the military in 1952 thinking it was what you knew not who you knew that counted. since I was so disappointed to find the opposite in civilian life. That was some time ago so hopefully things have changed. But I was embarrassed that I was so naive back then.

Thanks Mike for keeping Common Sense available thru your newsletters. The Media and the Left are not idiots their ideas are idiotic and destructive. People with memory loss still understand American ideals are what makes this Country so attractive most people with minimal common sense knows the ideas of the Media and the Left are plain un American anti American is used to incite the Buffoons to be entertained. Their goal is to destroy what's left of the globes best country. Terrorist running about with faces masked beating on people that can not defend themselves murdering in the streets, lawlessness, the ruination of civil behavior is the goal look at California ruined, who is next, look at Virginia already in ruins and to get worse soon. Soros is getting Communist elected thru out the Country. Shameful

Wayne Allyn Root wrote a great article about the off shore Clinton Foundation and other congressional democrats guilt in the Ukraine scandal and how they and their children all got rich.
My question is this, if he and many other reporter's have uncovered all this, why no charges and arrests from Barr?
What is he waiting for? Republicans lost the entire state of Virginia, thus proving the American voters really aren't very smart or I formed.
If Barr doesn't do something soon, 2020 May not go well.

I am sorry to say that I missed Huckabee this past weekend. I never miss it, & sometimes I watch it twice, just to make absolutely sure I didn't miss anything. However, TBN has been off the air here in Phoenix because of technical trouble. I can't get an answer from anyone on when it will be back on the air here. I do NOT have cable. I watch over-the-air, which is FREE. The same person answers the TBN phone local phone number as the 800 number. Maybe you could get someone to at least email or text me when I can expect to have TBN back on the air locally. Thank you. I enjoy Huckabee so much. It's the only political news I trust to be honest & true.

I don't know who to attribute this quote to, but it says so much. It is NOT mine, but thought you'd enjoy it.

"Still, a note to my friends on the Left: " You may think all of this talk about Socialism, the move to bigger, more intrusive government, big government spending, is nothing more than toothless Deplorables, clinging bitterly to their religion and guns. You could not be further from the truth. The message has been and remains that a government that is unchecked in its scope will one day show up somewhere that even YOU don’t want it to be, abrogating rights you hold dear.. And then you can assert your freedom all you want and Occupy Whatever You Wish. But by that time it may be too late.
You see my friends, the Constitution does not just protect us “bitter clingers”; it protects you as well. It may have been written by a group of rich white men, but the truths it contains have not changed. What has changed is our understanding of to whom it applies. And it applies to all Americans, no matter their color, religion, nationality or political persuasion. And the government you are so eager to let in the door today may be the government you can’t evict tomorrow."
