--------------------------

A big Huck’s Hero salute to the crowd on the sand at Panama Beach, Florida, who saved two swimmers caught in rip tides.  Even though they were all strangers to each other, they saw two fellow humans in danger and, defying the red flags that meant it was illegal to enter the water, they quickly organized to lock arms into a human chain and stretch out into the dangerous currents toward the swimmers.  The swimmers and the volunteer at the front end of the chain held on tight to each other, and the rest pulled the human chain back onto the beach.

https://www.wbir.com/article/news/local/maryville-man-becomes-part-of-human-chain-saves-swimmers-at-panama-city-beach/51-33a21904-83ab-4261-a72f-dbc9f59f3fae

The sheriff’s office said this is still dangerous and illegal and you shouldn’t risk it…but the people on the beach said they just couldn’t stand by and do nothing.

So a big salute to those people, not only for saving those two swimmers, but for proving that when the chips are down, Americans will band together and risk their own lives to save people they don’t even know.

At a time when political leaders who should be trying to bring us together are eating away at the foundations of America like termites, doing everything possible to divide us against one another to advance their own selfish political interests, it’s fantastic to see that they do not represent most Americans, who still hold in their hearts the same selfless spirit that compelled them to risk everything to rescue hundreds of millions of people they didn’t even know in World Wars I and II.

Incidentally, here’s yet another example, courtesy of Prof. Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit, of Americans of all backgrounds rushing to help strangers in need.

https://pjmedia.com/instapundit/335969/

Instapundit highlighted one of the comments that’s worth repeating:

“THAT’s America for you. In the event of disaster, you will be way better off with the random people stuck in a two hour traffic jam on the interstate highway somewhere than with the entire faculty of Harvard University.”

With gratitude,

Mike Huckabee

Remembering Chappaquiddick

By Mike Huckabee

In all the observances of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, the media virtually ignored another 50th anniversary on July 18th: the night that Sen. Ted Kennedy drove his car off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts, and left campaign worker Mary Jo Kopechne behind to drown (or possibly to suffocate after using up all the oxygen in an air bubble in the car.)

I don’t want to dwell on this tragedy, but if it isn’t commemorated, we risk letting biased media and reference outlets whitewash it, and I’ve had enough of letting the left rewrite history.  Note how the AP’s tweet about the anniversary seemed to imply that the car drove itself off a bridge and Kennedy’s only action was to survive while Kopechne, sadly, did not.

Jim Treacher at PJ Media has more on the attempt to memory-hole Chappaquiddick and how to prevent it.

https://pjmedia.com/trending/after-50-years-the-press-is-still-whitewashing-chappaquiddick/

Remember in 2015, when some liberals tried to claim that if she’d lived, Mary Jo Kopechne would have been 65 and might have appreciated Kennedy’s Senate efforts at expanding benefits for seniors.  That’s the kind of blood-chilling revisionism that’s enabled by letting political partisans rewrite history.  Mary Jo never got to be a senior citizen because she died for no reason at 28 when a Washington bigshot prioritized his political viability over saving her life. That should never be acceptable from any public official, and that’s why we must never allow the real story of Chappaquiddick to be whitewashed or buried.

The Democrats' Crocodile Tears

By Mike Huckabee

The US Border Patrol just issued new data on deaths at the border.  In the two fiscal years under President Trump, there has been an average of 271 deaths of border crossers per year.

This tragic figure is why Democrats, especially the Presidential candidates, have been lambasting Trump, saying he’s responsible for children dying, his immigration policy is “inhumane and immoral,” and it’s a “stain on our moral conscience.”  Responding to a photo of two people who drowned trying to cross the Rio Grande, Joe Biden tweeted, “The cruelty we’re seeing at our border is unconscionable. History will judge how we respond to the Trump Administration’s treatment of immigrant families & children — we can’t be silent. This isn’t who we are. This is not America.”

https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/in-trumps-first-two-years-border-deaths-declined/

Well, he’s right about one thing: it’s not the America that existed under Obama and Biden.  Over their eight fiscal years, deaths at the border averaged 372 per year.  That’s an average of 101 more deaths per year under Obama and Biden than under Trump.  Yet did Democrats and the media howl about the unconscionable, immoral, inhumane immigration policies of Obama and Biden and the roughly 30% more deaths than under Trump that they were responsible for?

I’m not sure which is deeper: the Rio Grande River or the river of crocodile tears being cried by Democrats and media members who exploit the deaths of children by placing personal blame on their political opponents while ignoring even more deaths when their side was in charge.

And just to be clear: I would never personally blame Obama for the deaths of people who took it upon themselves to cross very dangerous terrain in the company of possibly violent and lawless companions in an attempt to enter another nation illegally.  No matter who the President is, anyone who does that is responsible for what happens to them.  And for the record, the safest place they were in during their entire journey was US custody.

With Robert Mueller now set (or reset) to testify to Congress next week, James Comey issued one of his typically pious and self-serving op-eds, listing his questions he want Mueller to answer (oddly enough, none of them involve Comey’s illegal leaking of classified government notes in order to rig the appointment of Mueller, or any of Comey’s other abuses of power.  Go figure.)

Meanwhile, I’d like to add a question to the list about how Mueller determined whether someone was of good enough character to be a key witness in trying to accuse Trump of wrongdoing. Because apparently, he’s not that good a judge of character.

Congratulations to Benjamin Netanyahu for becoming the longest-serving Prime Minister in the history of Israel.  And Congratulations to the people of Israel for having the wisdom to see through the ridiculous attempts to smear his character and for making him the longest-serving Prime Minister in the history of Israel.

    DearGov. Huckabee,
King James Version vs Douay- Rheims version Bible verse
    KJV
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

    – Isa 41:10
    D-R
[10] Fear not, for I am with thee: turn not aside, for I am thy God: I have strengthened thee, and have helped thee, and the right hand of my just one hath upheld thee.

I would appreciate you including both versions in your newsletters.

Your comment on the crocodile tears tells the truth. Yet today's America is not the same America they we grew up in. Toady's America puts it this way "it is always someone else fault". One of the best thing about your newsletter is the daily Bible verse. Keep up the good work, and God bless you and your family.

I remember Chapaquiddick very well how the Kennedy's "hushed" everything up. Seems like history is repeating itself today!

I enjoy reading stories like the ones about Americans stopping to help people who they don't even know. It's good to know that people still do that.
Meanwhile, politicians find it impossible to work together. A lot of good could have been accomplished by Congress working with each other and President Trump, but Dems (and some Republicans) refuse to cooperate with him.
When Trump talks about being the president of all Americans, they call him a racist. Now they say that his words about the 4 freshman socialists are racist and cause division.
It doesn't matter what he says, they call him racist, xenophobic, homophobic, a traitor, and more. It doesn't seem to hurt President Trump; he keeps on doing his job (thank God).
Democrats' decisiveness hurts America, though, and I hope most Americans remember that when they vote.

    Hi Mike,
Your comment, "At a time when political leaders who should be trying to bring us together are eating away at the foundations of America like termites, doing everything possible to divide us against one another to advance their own selfish political interests, it’s fantastic to see that they do not represent most Americans..."

It is NOT fantastic to see, it is however a reality that they DO NOT REPRESENT MOST AMERICANS. We need representatives that DO represent MOST Americans and who are willing to fight for the things thinking people want and need and handouts, entitlements, and open borders are not it!

We need representatives who agree America should continue on the course President Trump has set toward prosperity for all Americans. More family wage jobs, not turning entry level jobs into family wage jobs by artificially inflating wages. That destroys those jobs by killing their economic viability.
