It turns out that Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson has agreed to comply with his House subpoena and arrive on Capitol Hill for his testimony at the appointed time after all.  However, his activities will be limited to warming his chair seat, swearing to tell the truth, leaning over to whisper to his attorney, and asserting his Fifth Amendment rights.

He refuses to answer questions about the Christopher Steele anti-Trump “dossier” or anything else, because doing so may incriminate him.

The indignant statement from his lawyer reads as follows:  “Compelling Glenn Simpson to appear for a confidential deposition after he has stated his intention to invoke his constitutional right not to testify reflects the worst practices of past congressional investigations and reinforces that this is a political exercise, not a serious inquiry.”

First Man

By Mike Huckabee

The Neil Armstrong bio film “First Man” came in a disappointing third at the box office.  I’d say “Stick a flag in it, it’s done,” but maybe if the makers had shown the American flag being planted on the moon, it wouldn’t have been a box office dud.  Of course, the Hollywood Reporter finds all sort of things to blame but dismisses the director’s decision to tick off millions of patriotic Americans who were the natural audience for the film.

Federal judge says no

By Mike Huckabee

Sleazy lawyer Michael Avenatti is really batting a thousand these days.  First, his Brett Kavanaugh accuser imploded on TV and helped convince wavering Senators to back Kavanaugh, so that Democrats have joined Republicans in holding him in contempt.  And now, the client who first brought him to 24/7 CNN residency, porn star Stormy Daniels, has suffered a major loss in court.

A federal judge in L.A. threw out her defamation lawsuit against President Trump, ruling that when Trump tweeted that the man she claimed threatened her to keep quiet about him was “nonexistent” and she was “playing the Fake News media for fools,” he was merely engaging in “hyperbolic political speech,” which is protected by the First Amendment. But most devastating for Daniels, the judge also ordered her to pay Trump’s legal fees for fighting her frivolous lawsuit.

As one might expect, Avenetti rushed to the TV cameras to bloviate and vowed to appeal.  Fine, maybe the next judge will order him to pay Trump’s cable TV bill, since Avenetti has been on the liberal news channels so much, every paid TV subscriber deserves a refund.

Meanwhile, the smackdown ruling against Ms Daniels sparked a lot of jokes on the Internet, none of which I should repeat, but they’re not hard to find.  The best observation, though, came from a commenter who said Republicans should thank all the Trump haters who donated so much of their cash on GoFundMe to pay Stormy’s legal fees, because now all their money will go to Trump.  Man, that’s gotta burn!

Senator Warren's DNA test

By Mike Huckabee

Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s DNA test revealed that she does indeed have Native-American blood. But after the Boston Globe repeatedly botched the math, gradually reducing the proportion with each new bulletin, we finally learned that she is as little as 1/1024th Native American. For the record, that’s considerably less American Indian blood than the average white American of European ancestry has.

Some on the left are trying to say this “proves” her claim to Native American heritage.  Warren even expects President Trump to pay up on his $1 million offer if she actually was proven to be Native American.  But like the left’s attempts to bring back segregation in schools, treating women like delicate flowers who need fainting couches, and importing an oppressed Third World underclass to do their field and house work, it’s yet another throwback to the unenlightened past when the “one drop of blood” rule meant that having just one drop of black blood meant you were legally black.  And they claim Republicans want to turn back the clock!

As for Sen. Warren, Harvard denies that she got set-aside privileges meant for Native Americans (Harvard has enough racial scandals to deal with now, over their alleged bias against Asian applicants.)  But if she did, then she not only unfairly benefited from those programs, she took a slot meant for someone who really was a victim of racism.  That’s the type of fraud that shouldn’t be rewarded with public office.

However, there may be a bright side to Sen. Warren’s now scientifically-proven “cultural appropriation.” A number of people have noted that this reinforces the traditional idea of America as a melting pot, something that’s been under siege by the left for years as they attempted to attain power by sowing suspicion, hatred and victimhood to divide Americans into warring tribes.  There’s a new documentary that shows how out of touch with reality are today’s officially-mandated racial categorizations, grievance politics and the well-funded diversity industry that needs to keep racism alive to stay profitable.

If leftists can defend Warren by claiming that being 1/1024th Native American makes her Native American, then they’re admitting that virtually all of us can claim to be Native American…and black…and Latino…and Asian…and everything else in the rainbow.  We’re all a beautiful mixture of all the races of the world, just in different increments. And we're growing more mixed with each passing year. We all have that in common. And that gives us something else beautiful that we have in common: regardless of where our ancestors came from or what our bloodlines show, we are all Americans.

That’s what America is all about, and it's time we remembered that that's what really matters.

Good news for the news media:

By Mike Huckabee

We’ve finally found somebody more biased than they are.  The latest Media Research Center study found that media coverage of President Trump is currently running at 92% negative.  But they’re practically bipartisan compared to Hollywood.

A Hollywood Reporter analysis of 2018 political donation records shows that 99.7% of donations from top movie and TV executives and celebrities went to Democrats or liberal groups. As one GOP consultant put it, celebrities are predicable: “They don’t just preach to the choir, they kind of rant to the choir.”

Still, the 0.3% of Hollywood donations to Republicans does include $5000 to Maine Sen. Susan Collins from a surprising donor.  I’ll bet the money was given before she stood up for the rule of law and presumption of innocence on behalf of Brett Kavanaugh. I wonder if he'll demand a refund for that apostasy.

Women's rights gets moved to the back of the line

By Mike Huckabee

In case women really needed another reminder of this: when you let the identity politics left take over, women’s rights get moved to the end of the line.  Latest example:

Meet Rachel McKinnon, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman and who just won the gold in the 35-39 age bracket in 2018 UCI Masters Track Cycling World Championships in Los Angeles.  McKinnon beat Carolien Van Herrikhuyzen of the Netherlands and American cyclist Jennifer Wagner, who are biological women, or as they used to be known, “women.”

As in many other women’s sports, it doesn’t sit too well with women who’ve spent years training to win the gold to be beaten by biological males who are allowed to compete against them because they “identify as women.”  I bet there were would be many more who would protest the blatant unfairness of it if they weren’t afraid of being branded as transphobes by the Twitter mobs.  (I don’t even care if they get upset when I call them a “mob.”)

McKinnon, however, has no patience with the argument that just because you’re naturally endowed with male strength and stamina, that should keep you from competing against females, because sports isn’t about performance (note: it is 100% about performance), it’s about “human rights.”

McKinnon told USA Today, “We cannot have a woman legally recognized as a trans woman in society and not be recognized that way in sports… Focusing on performance advantage is largely irrelevant because this is a rights issue. We shouldn’t be worried about trans people taking over the Olympics. We should be worried about their fairness and human rights instead.”

McKinnon also compared transgender rights in sports to racial discrimination, an apples-and-oranges argument that’s never gone over too well with African-Americans, but that’s another issue.  Let’s concentrate on the claim that blocking biological men who identify as women from competing against women in sports is oppression.  If sports are all about "human rights," then why should only men who identify as women be allowed to compete against women?  Isn’t that oppression against men who identify as men?  If you’re going to blur the gender lines that much, how can you defend segregating the sexes at all?

Let’s make female swimmers, runners and wrestlers compete against men at the Olympics.  Female tennis players can play against Roger Federer, and female boxers can get in the ring with male fighters such as Anthony Joshua or Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder.  Sure, it would probably spell the end of women’s sports, and a few women boxers might die in the ring, but isn’t that a small price to pay to keep transgender athletes from feeling oppressed?

Women who vote for this sort of social justice warrior insanity should realize that when they pull that "D" lever in the polls, they are flushing their own rights down the toilet.  This denial of reality not only oppresses women, it oppresses common sense.

Incidentally, if you think I’m exaggerating, let me remind you of this:

I haven't heard about how someone could get a scholarship as an American Indian without proving their actual heritage. In Michigan, if I read the info on line correctly, you have to have 1/4 American Indian ancestry to qualify and the college or university has to recognize the tribal association. I don't know how other states or colleges or universities work. Maybe it helps to be a Democrat.
