Only one possible conclusion:  Gen. Flynn was railroaded

Three-star general and President Trump’s original choice for national security advisor Michael Flynn was railroaded.

Railroaded, set up, entrapped, framed, every synonym listed in Roget’s Thesaurus.  Very deliberately.  That’s the only conclusion I can reach after reading Byron York’s shocking story in the Washington Examiner, which appears on the same day Gen. Flynn is scheduled to be sentenced.  As bad as everything the FBI, special counsel and Democratic leadership have done, and are continuing to do, to accomplish their goal of deposing Trump, the treatment of Flynn may rank as the sorriest abuse of the Constitution to date.  And that’s saying a lot.

This is not supposed to happen in the United States of America, and it is intolerable.

We learn about this through a sentencing memo filed on Tuesday by Flynn’s lawyers.  It references the “302” written by then-deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe –- he has since been fired –- on the meeting two FBI officials had with Flynn --- you know, the one in which he’s accused of lying when even his interrogators said they didn’t think he had.  Anyway, the 302, which normally would have been written contemporaneously while memories were fresh but for some very strange reason was prepared almost seven months after the fact, contains some information which Flynn’s lawyers were allowed to reference in their own court document.  (The FBI is still refusing to release the full 302.)

Going by McCabe’s own written account, here’s how the worst day of Flynn’s life unfolded:

Around noon on January 24, 2017, when Trump had been in office just four days, Flynn got a call at his new West Wing office, on a secure phone, from McCabe.  They discussed a bit of business, and then McCabe casually asked Flynn if a couple of agents could drop on by and ask him to clarify some details of Flynn’s talks with Russian officials that had taken place during the presidential transition.

We learn that in order to keep Flynn “relaxed,” McCabe, by his own account in the 302, specifically encouraged him to just casually talk to the officials by himself, WITHOUT A LAWYER.  It wouldn’t be a big deal or anything like that.  To further induce Flynn to keep it light and off-the-cuff, he said that if Flynn did want to include anyone else in the meeting, they’d need to involve the DOJ and it would become a bigger deal, and who wants that, right?  So the unsuspecting Flynn just said some version of, “Sure, Andy, I’m just unpacking a few boxes over here and will be around, so that would be fine if they want to come on over this afternoon.”

Then, boom, the agents –- one of them the notoriously anti-Trump Peter Strzok –- arrived at Flynn’s office within two hours.  Sure enough, in his report McCabe describes Flynn as “relaxed and jocular” (editorial aside:  according to plan, nyah-ha-ha!)  As the 302 describes, McCabe and other FBI officials had decided ahead of time that “the agents would not warn Flynn that it was a crime to lie during an FBI interview because they wanted Flynn to be relaxed, and they were concerned THAT GIVING THE WARNINGS MIGHT ADVERSELY AFFECT THE RAPPORT.”  (Emphasis mine.)

Remember that by unmasking his name in wiretapped telephone conversations with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak (and, later, illegally leaking this information to the Washington Post, but I digress), the agents already had the information they needed, but Flynn was left in the dark.  According to the Flynn sentencing memo, “Before the interview, FBI officials had also decided that if ‘Flynn said he did not remember something they knew he said, they would use the exact words Flynn had try to refresh his recollection.  If Flynn still would not confirm what he said...THEY WOULD NOT CONFRONT HIM OR TALK HIM THROUGH IT.’”  (Again, emphasis mine.)  In other words, if they thought it was possible that Flynn had misled them, they would not try to clear it up with him.  As the meeting wrapped up and they all shook hands out in the hall, Flynn apparently had no clue that he had said anything wrong.  One can picture him going back to unpacking boxes and setting out pictures of his family in his new office at the White House, thinking, “Well, that’s done.  What nice guys.”

The Flynn memo, citing what McCabe himself had written in the 302, said, “One of the agents reported that Gen. Flynn was ‘unguarded’ during the interview and clearly saw the FBI agents as allies.”  This should send a chill up every American’s spine.

So, as Flynn’s lawyers suggest, he was caught off guard, rushed into an on-the-spot interview, misled into thinking this was not a serious conversation, and told it would be just as well --- better, in fact --- if he didn’t have a lawyer there.  I would add that he didn’t have a clue about having been wiretapped.  (If they’d really wanted to refresh his memory, they could have just shown him their transcript.)  Flynn subsequently was indicted for lying to the FBI; lost his prestigious job and, essentially, his career; lost his house; spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on legal fees; reportedly had family members threatened with prosecution; had to move in with relatives; and faced the real possibility of going to prison.

What needs to happen NOW:  the Justice Department must turn over the full 302 to House and Senate investigating committees –- which have been asking for that but which have, of course, been refused it –- and everything else relating to their handling of Gen. Flynn, including any original, contemporaneous notes made by the two officials who questioned him.  The DOJ would love to run out the clock on the House committees, which have only a few weeks left of Republican leadership.  As Jerrold Nadler has very openly said, once Democrats take control of the House in January, they’re immediately shutting down all non-Trump-related investigations.

Now, there’s a “government shut-down” we should all be concerned about.

This has just gone too far.  When Trump’s political opponents decided that all the rules were out the window in their quest to get keep him out of office and, later, to depose him, it started taking America down.  The Constitution is considered to be collateral damage; hey, these people didn’t think much of it, anyway.  They reference it only when doing so suits their purposes and ignore it when it doesn’t.  This set-up really does compare to something that would happen in a banana republic, not in America, and certainly not to a revered three-star general with over 30 years of service to his country.

This story is being overshadowed right now by the Michael Cohen sentencing, because that story (unlike this one) is something the anti-Trump media can have a heyday with.  But it’s bubbling beneath the surface and will not go away.  Expect updates as we learn more.

I see that Dan Bongino's podcast for today is about General Flynn.  Good.  Take a listen, and I will, too.

According to the left, President Trump is “literally Hitler,” and his comments are filled with “dog whistles” to appeal to neo-Nazis.  He’s just very careful to cover his anti-Semitism by doing things like strongly standing by Israel; finally keeping America’s promise to move our Embassy to Jerusalem; having a Jewish daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren; and one thing you probably didn't hear about, hosting multiple parties and receptions at the White House last week in observance of Hanukkah.

At one party, he welcomed eight Holocaust survivors from Brooklyn. Here is a very moving photo and quotes from what Trump said.  His words were written down by Powerline blog’s Scott Johnson, which is lucky because you probably won’t hear them anywhere else.

Coolest Photo of the Week: Sailors on board the USS George H.W. Bush honor the aircraft carrier's namesake by standing on deck in the dark and spelling out his initials and presidential number in hand-held points of light.

Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake continues to spend his waning days in the Senate making enemies of fellow Republicans by voting against all Trump judicial nominees until the Senate passes a bill that would make it illegal for the President to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.  Mueller is part of a department that’s under Trump, and making him independent and unfireable would create a fourth branch of government unaccountable to anyone elected by the voters – hence, the bill is plainly unconstitutional.

I’ve already noted that Flake’s grandstanding is doing nothing but wasting everyone’s time, since the nominees will just be sent back in January once he’s gone, to an even larger GOP majority.  Fortunately, he just got a sharp lesson in how futile his stand really is when he caused a tie vote that Vice President Mike Pence stepped in and settled.  Maybe Pence should simply move his office over to the Senate from now until Christmas recess.

The official and theologically-baffling position of Apple CEO Tim Smith is that it would be a “sin” for Apple to give a platform to “divisive” or violence-promoting speech or conspiracy theories – which he seems to define entirely as conservative content and not violent, racist rap songs on iTunes, violent threats against the President or Republicans, or divisive leftwing conspiracy theories like the “Russian collusion” delusion.

Since Apple likes wild, radical, outside-the-box ideas, here’s one for them: how about if Apple just builds superior computers and smart phones that make it easy to communicate via the Internet and stop trying to determine who gets to communicate via the Internet?  It sure does seem a long time now since Apple first burst onto the scene with a famous commercial about smashing Big Brother's control over the free flow of information.

the more facts that come out the more you and Dan Bongino are dead on!. Hannity said "it's criminal, the way he's been treated." Now, if the judge doesn't get those documents he asked for I'll bet the case gets trashed and that will make Mueller look like a chump and the FBI as well. I smelled a rat from the beginning and you are so right, a set up pure and simple. Criminal intent? yes, from the very start. The audacity of the left is appalling. It's getting so bad, there aren't adequate words to describe how horrible all this is. I think tribunals are in order. This is a coup d'etat? ( I have lousy French) Heads now HAVE to roll, and lots of them.

It is time for President Trump to pardon Gen. Flynn as soon as he is sentenced regardless of any penalty. What a disgrace to a good man who served his country and list everything just because he supported the President.

Thank you so much for your explanation and analysis of what happened to General Flynn. I have kept up with the reporting of it, but it can be confusing to sort through the disinformation which has been regularly disseminated by the news media and the slow walking of information thanks to the obfuscation of an apparently corrupted FBI. That in itself is a sad footnote to an organization that was created to uphold the law, not mold the law to fit their purposes putting the old Marxist phrase, “ the end justifies the means” into the recent history of the ‘premiere law enforcement agency of the land’. I choke as I write that last bit! Sad but true. Chris Farrell may have it right when he advised to disband it entirely and reassign the FBI duties to the US Marshals.

    Dear Mr. Huckabee,
thank you for your excellent expose of Michael Flynn and indeed, it is horrible to see all workers for and with President Trump being jailed, sooner or later. This is a nightmare..
Can you, please, please , ask the President to ring in GOOd lawyers ,who fight back for him, like Larry Klayman?
Thank you and have a Merry ,Merry Christmas, Carla

The treatment of Flynn is beyond contemptible! Apologies to him and his family are not sufficient. He might decline but how about a "go fund me" to at least try to recoup a little of what he has lost?

    Dear Governor,
Ephesians 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

Those of us who have been walking with the Lord for some time recognize from whence the current cultural, social, and governmental mayhem has arisen. The enemy, satan, also known as the left, will not let our country be saved from deceit, ineptitude, moral corruption, and in General Flynn's case, public and raucous wrongness....moral depletion. We were amazed when Mr. Trump was elected. Conservatives breathed a guarded sigh of relief, but the Lord's hand was moving, Mr. Trump took office, and the right began to think of our country and its rights as resurfacing.

Here's where we believers fail. I said the same thing after 9/11. We fall asleep at the wheel, the slickness of the enemy perpetrates ungodly ideologies that in THEORY sound okay such as same sex marriage and politically correct language, because, after all, we wouldn't want to hurt or offend anyone, and after all, this is America....home of the free. The love of Christ is misconstrued as anything goes, because "living" is up to the individual.

We can see the results of this thinking. I have a picture of the enemy, rubbing his hands together with glee because we fall into dopey contentment while he's masterminding the demonization of an entire culture. The cure is two-fold: first, believers like you, Sarah Sanders Huckabee, Jay Sekulow, and other believers in government must have courage in their faith, and publicly display their courage for truth. Don't back down: Zechariah 3:7 “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘If you will walk in obedience to me and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here." Secondly, believers must engage in full time prayer for those of you in the trenches because: 2 Timothy 3:1-17 "But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people." 6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. 9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone."

Governor, thank you for your boldness, but be bolder. Tell, ask, beseech your followers to pray, to fast, to summon their own courage to seek His guidance and to speak His truth as we move forward. His way is THE only way! And God knew what He was doing when He raised you up!!! with His love, Anne

Welcome to America. Pray, believers, pray. Ephesians 6:18 18 "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people." Please.

"This Is A Test...!" Hi Mike, In the Parkland shooting, it is being "floated" that Nicholas Cruz could get the death penalty. Cruz has amply demonstrated that he was insane in hearing voices and acting out prior to the shooting, which was the culmination of his "crying for help" that he never received. The Question: Should Nicholas Cruz go to an insane asylum and should the death penalty be reserved for the incompetent, "idiot" sheriff, Scott Israel...? Thanks. Bob

    Governor Huckabee,

This is a little off topic but as an old guy I notice things that have changed dramatically in my time on this earth. One thing no one mentions is the complete change of today's advertising to press a particular view of the American family. Almost every commercial on TV highlights mixed marriage or same sex marriage as the norm in our country when it is furthest from the truth. From drug advertising to car ads we are being indoctrinated that this is the new norm. Almost like as a normal family is no longer part of the fabric of our country. Norman

Few things make me truly angry in life. The treatment of Judge Kavanaugh was one. The abuse of General Flynn is another. I hope he has some legal recourse to restore at his reputation and life's savings. And I hope that the President will appoint an Attorney General who will clean house at the Justice Department and the FBI.

Your articles are always spot on and look forward to reading them daily. I cannot believe how deceitful, evil and manipulative the FBI has become. It no longer “protects and serves the people for the betterment” but rather “fabricates lies, and destroys decent, respectful citizens for the FBI’s political betterment” . I’m very, very disappointed, disillusioned, disgusted and appalled at the depravity our government has sunk to! Their is not one bit of truth, decency nor willingness to serve the peoples’ best interests in the DEMOCRATIC party and get anything done! I cannot understand how they can get away with it! Thank you sooo very much for your straightforward and honest digestion of these highly politically negatively charged issues! You are the best!

It is a travesty what the FBI has done to General Flynn. There is so much hate for President Trump and they are doing everything they can to hurt him and anyone associated with him. What can be done? I value your comments.

How come it is never reported that the 5 billion Trump is asking for is about 1/10th of one percent of the over 4 TRILLION dollar budget or the yearly income of the government? I saw it on the 700 Club. A mere piddlence of the income collected. Also, the fact that Trump offered Schumer and Pelosi a great deal for the Dreamers last year and they refused it. You don't, or rarely hear it on Fox. The rest of the networks only report the negative or fabricated news.

It's time for WE THE PEOPLE to get more involved with having a say so of how our country is being run. Not just a vote of the people for candidates. The BS that is going on needs to stop. We don't need all the petty crap that is not only illegal but are blatten lies against good, fine people. The Dem's need to get their damn heads out of the toilet, blow their noses and start thinking with a clear head. First we need to start boycotting the negative media and stop buying time magazine.
As for the immigrants, Stop all monies going to sanctuary cities and states. We can welcome people into our country as long as they come in on legal means. We don't need their trash and illnesses. If they have a criminal record they don't come in. If they create a serious crime while doing their five year probationary period, they go to jail serve their time and then are deported. Plain and simple.

There must be attention drawn, perhaps with the help of a CDC spokesperson, to the threat of disease, known as nd not yet identified, being brought in by illegal immigrants. I worked in the US Public Health tent at Eglin AFB used to screen Vietnamese refugees brought to this Country in the mid 1970s. Each and everyone was screened for communicable diseases before they were linked to sponsors and cleared to leave the Camp. The mainstream media is burying this threat by the southern border jumpers or painting it as a scare tactic by the Trump administration, if mentioned.

Great commentary AGAIN! What if the Computer manufacturers and Google and Facebook, Twitter etc. were all required to provide Security for the devices they sell instead of forcing the consumer to attempt to find a 3rd party and pay for security and device failure like the Auto Industry ? Correcting the foibles of the Dim Wits will NOT result until America enters the Slavery Phase of the cycle of other Republics. A wise man once intoned to fix your own home before you attempt to save the world.
