Would anyone really be surprised if the "green" in the "Democratic" Socialists' "Green New Deal" turned out to be a giant bag of weed? It would explain what voters had been smoking when they put these people in office.

A Florida politician looked at all the crazy political news from Virginia grabbing America’s attention and said, “Hold muh beer!”

Respect to her victims, who proved they can take a licking and keep on ticking.

Incidentally, I naturally wondered if this lady is a Democrat or Republican. A lot of people must have, because that was one of the top search options on Google. I haven’t found anything on her party affiliation, so I assume the local commissioners board races are nonpartisan. Just wanted to point that out because usually, when a politician does something awful or weird and the media don’t tell you their party, that means they’re Democrats. Except CNN, which tells you they’re Republicans even if they’re Democrats.

I know that very few Millennials who are besotted with socialism read my newsletter. And on the off chance there are any, I doubt that they would take my advice to read a book by Friedrich Hayek or Dr. Thomas Sowell, or even Dr. Seuss. But maybe they will watch a 3-1/2-minute YouTube video featuring other attractive Millennials desperately trying to warn them not to walk into the socialist booby trap.

These are young Venezuelans who made it to America and attended a protest of Venezuela’s imploding socialist government in Washington. They want to offer their fellow Millennials some truth to cut through the snow job pushers of socialism are giving them. For those who can’t spare even 3-1/2 minutes: they warn that the promises socialists make are lies. Its promoters fall into one of two categories: charlatans and dupes. They thought what happened in places like Cuba couldn’t happen to them because they were a free and prosperous nation that voted for their leaders (it was “democratic socialism!” Sound familiar?). But little-by-little, over time, like a frog boiling in gradually heating water, they lost their freedom and their prosperity until they eventually had no food or medicine or even toilet paper, unless you count their currency.

And just to dispense with the most popular bogus responses right up front: no, “Democratic socialism” is not “completely different,” it’s just the same poison in a sexy new bottle; and these hip young Venezuelans bought it just like many young Americans are. Also, the Scandinavian nations are not examples of “socialism that works.” They’re capitalist nations that thought they were rich enough to afford a lot of expensive government freebies, but even they are scaling those back after seeing the high costs and the erosion they’re taking on the national work ethic.

Must-Read Article of the Day!  The rise of “fact-checkers” has done very little to improve the veracity of news coverage, because many of the self-appointed “fact-checkers” are really just partisan hacks, looking for some nitpicky way to dismiss inconvenient truths or to misrepresent personal opinions as lies.

Some of the efforts to discredit plain truths and verified statistics quoted by President Trump in his State of the Union Address have been so laughably biased that they’ve actually discredited the so-called “fact-checkers” instead.  The lamest attempt at a “gotcha” had to be Politico’s knock on Trump for saying that one in three migrant women are sexually assaulted on the long journey, when the study he cited said it was only 31 percent.

At the link, David Harsanyi of The Federalist lists and examines the most common tactics used by today’s “fact-checkers” to make their biased opinionating and aspersion-casting sound like dispassionate research (I’ve had to deal with some of these shenanigans myself, over things I wrote that were completely accurate), along with prominent examples ripped from the headlines.

By the way, that’s a figure of speech.  They aren’t literally ripped out of newspaper headlines, so please don’t give me four Pinocchios.

If you thought it would take a miracle to get House Speaker Nancy Pelosi into the same room with President Trump again after Tuesday’s State of the Union Address, you’re sort of right: the two were together again Thursday morning, along with other VIPs from both sides of the aisle, at the National Prayer Breakfast.  Here are some details on the event and what the speakers talked about:

You might not have heard much about the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for President Trump’s latest nominee to the important DC Court of Appeals, Neomi Rao. That’s understandable, with the State of the Union Address monopolizing the news.  And it’s not as high profile as the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation circus.  But it is worth your attention, and not just because the Democrats on the Committee are embarrassing themselves by acting like partisan hatchet men.

As this article makes clear, Ms Rao is highly qualified for the job, with a resume that includes a Yale degree, University of Chicago Law School and clerking for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.  She’s also a woman and would be the first Indian-American judge ever on that court. You’d think that at least would make the Democrats show her some respect, but no such luck.  Once again, what should be a proceeding of utmost gravity presided over by mature adults has all the decorum of a Three Stooges pie fight with the Democrats trying to pelt the nominee with banana cream.

At that link is an example of the kind of “When did you stop beating your wife?” questioning that Rao is being forced to endure, and from Sen. Kamala Harris, an alleged champion of women.  But the “Stooge Trophy” has to go to Sen. Cory Booker for demanding to know why Rao never hired any LGBTQ law clerks.  She replied that she’s never been a judge before, so she’s never hired any law clerks.  Booker should change his nickname from “Spartacus” to “Shemp” after that public face-plant.

It’s perfectly fine to question Ms Rao and press her strongly on her answers.  But this type of embarrassing partisan spectacle not only insults and demeans the nominees, it erodes the public’s respect for the entire process of vetting judges, and it discourages good people from even wanting to put themselves up for consideration for public service if they know they're going to have their reputations covered in mud.

It’s also not doing the Democrats any favors, either with their public image or their purported philosophical beliefs.  Writing in the Washington Post, Megan McArdle argues that with their juvenile tactic of digging up old columns Rao wrote years ago and attacking her for comments that no longer represent her current beliefs, they are signaling to everyone watching that going along with “progressive” change is a dangerous proposition.

McArdle says these Senators are showing that as soon as social changes occur, the people who pushed for them will try to punish anyone who disagreed with them (Don’t believe it? Remember when same-sex marriage proponents argued that it would never affect Christians who opposed it; then the minute the SCOTUS gave them what they wanted, they began trying to prosecute or sue every Christian business owner into bankruptcy for daring to refuse to participate.)  This tactic sends a message to the majority to resist all efforts at “progressive” social change, which sets back the liberals’ own causes.

But that type of argument requires some multi-dimensional thought.  So much easier to point fingers and call names.  There’s more, but since the original article is behind WaPo’s payroll, here’s an excerpt that gives you the gist.

Liberals are attacking CNN for giving an hour of air time to Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, whose potential third party presidential bid they fear will draw votes away from whichever liberal survives their 2020 Hunger Games...sorry, "primaries." I guess they assume that CNN’s job isn’t to inform the public of all aspects of what’s in the news but only to cover things that will help Democrats defeat Trump.

Gee, I wonder where they got that idea!

We all know that Democrats don’t consider the Presidency (the most important and difficult executive job in the world) to require any prior executive experience.  Giving a thrilling speech, being in the right identity group, or mouthing the latest “progressive” platitudes is all they believe the job requires, apparently.

But when you are only one of 100 Senators; with no solo government, business or military executive experience; and a new study ranks you as possibly one of the “worst bosses” in the Senate with one of the highest turnover rates of office staffers – then maybe you should consider that the Oval Office is not your obvious next step up on the career ladder.

Those oh so intelligent and pertinent questions used to grill nominee Rao just show how stupid the questioners are. They have no clue what qualifies a person for a judgeship---the emphasis is not on whether or not they eat meat, or what people they hire, and other idiotic things. I know the spartacus question was irrelevant but love Ms Rao's response. That being said, whenever I hear about this company or that doesn't hire enough of whatever minority group is being championed that day, I always wonder--how many are qualified in the first place? Shouldn't a company get to hire the best people for their company, regardless of sex, race, age, sexual identification? And, secondly--is anyone keeping record of how many of said minorities even apply for a position in that company in the first place?

To date, there are nine candidates running for president, and more to enter. As with the 17 running for the
Republican nomination two years ago, WHY isn't it mandatory that IF you are a FEDERAL EMPLOYEE of any kind...
you MUST resign from the postion you are getting PAID for by the taxpayers????? It is ridiculous that we pay
these people for a year and a half for CAMPAIGNING and NOT WORKING!

Cory Booker's inquisition of Neomi Rao is not only shameful but abusive and demeaning. He has done this before and he should resign immediately for his disgraceful and despicable conduct. Of course I am being facetious as the looney left is cheering this inanity on. Thank the Department of Education as well as the media for successfully executing their war upon critical thinking.

With respect to the "greenhouse gas crisis": Once again, it might be helpful to stop for a moment and think about methane and where it comes from. True, animals such as cows and even insects notably termites are major contributors. However animals and insects and inanimate machines such as jet engines do not produce it out of nothing. It comes from "sequestered" carbon. Carbon which the fauna has ingested from carbohydrates plants have produced through the transpiration of carbon from the atmosphere. So the carbon and hydrogen in methane being expelled into the atmosphere originated in the atmosphere and has completed this cycle innumerable times throughout the millennia. I think they call it recycling.
We may argue over where fossil fuels originate but there is no question coal originated from flora entombed before it had a chance to decay had it been exposed to oxygen. All the carbon sequestered in all the coal seams of the world originated in the atmosphere.

The stupidity of the looney left is breathtaking to behold.

    Thanks for the great work!

Why would Booker even go there? It is my understanding that the only class that one HAS to HIRE are the blacks; The others, well, if I was applying for the job, I would definately say, in the interview, that I am a lesbian, transgender, black and have NO experiense, but you have to hire me (I am none of those THINGS)...But I have seen MANY who had worked for the RR with 20+ years experience passed over to promote a black with 2 years experience(exp). One does NOT put such thing on their resume and should NEVER be asked that! What the Heck!

People I need help with a question How many times in the last 5 years have you brought up Black Face and the KKK in your conversations with friends or anyone? The Media seems to think its a big deal bigger than homicide of new born human beings or about to be born. Do you finally believe that the this media today really cares about this country well being? Opps 2 questions. I continue to look for news not opinion or propaganda I do admit I do not watch Mainstream outlets for news and my Fox outlet is also leaning towards BF KKK narrative as a subject to fill the time slot. I can't see any positive product coming from this agenda except no one would look at the picture of the Black GUY and the KKK Guy and say Look what we have done is extremely wrong and we want to disband the KKK and live in peace I think the Black Guy would say DEAL along with most of America. We should talk along that line if we need to fill air time on these outlet stations but lets get real Murder of our infants should be the focus when murder becomes law Kiss America goodbye.

Good morning Gov. Thank you for the daily briefings, love them. I watched the entire Prayer Breakfast and what stood out to me, and probably a line that Nancy Pelosi and friends don't listen to, is when the President said never under estimate the power of prayer. What I believe we are seeing, is through the power of our prayers, how corrupt and vile the left is. They are being unmasked one by one and the evil they have in their hearts is being made known. I.E, Adam Schiff meeting with FusionGPS for one. I was also surprised that Nancy and her friends didn't burst into flames when the praying started.

I will continue to pray for our President, our country, the leaders who have goodness in their hearts for all men. And that the evil of those that want to treat people like servants will be exposed and they will disappear.

As the President said, God knew us before we were born, He made us in his image and likeness, if we all keep praying more people will come to realize that and turn to God.

Ocasio-Cortez is a socialist? How much was that white outfit she wore to SOTU? I have to say, all her clothes look like designer outfits. Who is paying for them? You know, Stalin ate like a King as he murdered millions.

I see that the Democrats are pushing to see President Trump's tax returns. Isn't providing those voluntary? Is there any way that we can push to see Nancy Pelosi's returns? She is technically the next president if Trump and Pence were to be impeached. I think we should see where her millions come from.

Citing a WJ article which then quotes a WAPO item covering Trump and Pelosi at the National Prayer Breakfast only serves to give that rag a wider audience, which they do not deserve. I stopped reading the local mullet wrapper (NWF Daily News) because it is just a compilation of WAPO reprints and AP Newswire bias. Even though WP prefaced the item with a reader caveat that it had not been edited for anti-Trump bias, I believe you could have found a better source, or at lease called out the WaPo’s glaring bias.

I really think that a citizenship exchange program should be put in place so that those who want to live in a socialist country can exchange their citizenship in the U.S. with a Venezuelan citizen who wants to live in our free U.S. society.

I did watch the 3 and half minute video on Socialism from those who escaped Venezuela. Would be nice if many, many young people would watch that 3 and half minute video to hear the warning from those who made statements about socialism or even Democratic Socialism. But sadly, probably not hardly anyone with that ideology stuck in their head is going to watch the video. But I hope a lot of conservative news stations and FOX would play that video along with providing other facts and truths about socialism. I was proud of our President for making the statements he did about socialism at his SOTU address. It needs to be repeated and fought against. Don't depend on the Democrats to say anything negative about socialism, but it is time for other Republicans to get on the bandwagon and support the President with the effort to say no to socialism in the United States and began showing Venezuela, Cuba and other countries and spell out what socialism is, the former communism, etc. We need more facts presented about the truth of socialism and why this country was founded on freedom and independence and how precious those freedoms are. And when freedoms are eroded or taken away, they aren't coming back !!!!!

I am deeply concerned about America’s future. It is always disheartening to read your newsletter, it’s not your fault, it is just the events are so discouraging. One thing I would note is, I believe, that there is a difference between Liberals and the Progressive Left. I believe that Liberals want America to be great; they just have a different view of how that should be. The left on the other hand want to destroy America as we know it. They are like a boa constrictor, making a change in their direction and then squeezing for just a little bit more. They took prayer out of schools, and then they took the pledge out of schools. They got Roe vs. Wade saying “Safe, Legal and rare”, now they want full term abortions, next will be infanticide. Once human life is devalued it will be followed by cutting off health care to the elderly who are no longer productive members of society (once they get government health care), then it will be eugenics, eliminating those with birth defects or other undesirable characteristics (Like Republicans). Sound familiar? They have infiltrated the education system from kindergarten through university and the media. The media is just the propaganda arm of the Progressive Left Democratic Party. Joseph Goebbels would be proud. They are working to destroy the natural family and as you pointed out once same sex marriages were approved they went after Christians. I think George Orwell’s “1984” should be re-titled “2020” and moved out of the fiction section because that is where we are headed. I had to read it back in the early 1960s in school, it is probably banned today, I should probably read it again as well as Animal Farm.

Dear Gov. Huckabee, I don't expect you to answer this, I just felt the need to express to you how upset and depressed I am getting just listening to the news. I cry for this country, a country that I love but I fear for my grandchildren . I feel helpless, but I am praying very hard for our president. I think that only God can help us now. Thank you for listening. FYI...I love you and Sarah.

I am really, really looking forward to the upcoming democrat primary season. With the super bowl over, and not much TV worth watching, the prospect of seeing the democrats turn to cannibalism is very intriguing. It probably should be on animal planet under the slug-line "America's most deadly", but even if it is on one of the DNC's proprietary propaganda outlets (CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, NPR and NBC w/PMS), it will be fun to watch. When I was a kid I remember a nursery rhyme about "the Gingham dog and the calico cat", who ate each other up until nothing was left. Maybe Nanny Pelosi's bones will survive - I've always wanted to see a real pterydactile skeleton.

There three types of socialism; communism (where people own everything), socialism (where government owns everything), and democratic socialism ( where government doesn’t necessarily own anything but controls everything). Each form tried always ended in a dictatorship and total failure. It’s a shame so many people believe that either form of these governments can succeed in spite of past total failures.

What is going on in America is unreal. I am old but I am so concerned about my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I pray, I write my senators and the next election I will work harder to elect congress who love America. I am almost 86 but I can still work for what is right for America.
