The abortion industry, in the form of the National Abortion Federation, continues its endless legal war against undercover journalist David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress for daring to expose Planned Parenthood’s barbaric practices.

They already got friendly California legal officials (two of whom, Kamala Harris and Xavier Becerra, are now in high-level DC positions) to abuse their powers to file multiple felony charges against reporters for doing their job. Now, the NAF not only wants everything else Daleiden uncovered to be permanently blocked from release (the recent vote audits have shown us how much liberals fear the public seeing evidence of what they do), they’re also asking a court to force Daleiden to pay $7.4 million in attorney’s fees and costs. They blame him for dragging out the case and running up their costs because he dared to defend himself against their frivolous harassment of him. I believe the legal term for this is “Chutzpah.”

A spokesman for the nonprofit Thomas More Society, which is defending Daleiden, called the demand “outrageous” and an attempt to bankrupt and punish anyone who challenges them. He said they will fight it and expect to eventually prevail, but if they don’t, it will set a case precedent that can be used against all undercover journalists to tie them up in court for years.

That’s always been the astounding thing about this case to me: Daleiden’s group did nothing that “60 Minutes” and other investigative news outlets don’t do all the time, only they did it to Planned Parenthood. You’d think that news organizations would be all over this story, denouncing it as the blatant assault on press freedom that it obviously is. But they are either so terrified of crossing Planned Parenthood or so invested in abortion rights themselves that they would sit back in silence and let the very bedrock rights of their own profession be aborted rather than side with pro-life journalists.
