Why Pelosi went to Taiwan: an educated answer!

Last week, we repeatedly asked why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had made the trip to Taiwan that raised such ire from China. Of course, she had to go after news of the trip was leaked, but why plan such a trip in the first place? Mostly it ended up highlighting the weakness of the Biden administration towards the Communist Chinese.  And that can't  possibly help Taiwan.

Michael Pillsbury, Director of Chinese Strategy at the Hudson Institute and author of the book THE HUNDRED YEAR MARATHON about China’s long-term plans for world domination, appeared Sunday on LIFE, LIBERTY & LEVIN and addressed this very question. Pillsbury saw two reasons why Pelosi went, one laudable and the other a more cynical take:

1) (Laudable.) Since the 1990s, Pelosi actually has been an outspoken proponent of human rights in China. Pillsbury said she was “almost arrested” in Tiananmen Square in 1991 and is “a good friend” of the Dalai Lama, working to get him a medal from Congress and helping keep the Tibetan exile government alive.

2) (Cynical.) Republicans have lately been “capturing the national sentiment” on China as a threat. “Democrats were positioned poorly; they seemed to be helping China,” he said. (Editorial note: why would anyone get that idea?)  In some ways, her trip to Taiwan was a good thing, he said, but he called it a “performance,” done largely for political reasons, to convince Americans that, hey, Democrats are tough on China, too!

If Pelosi comes home and cooperates on Republican initiatives, he said, this will be a positive step.  But “if she comes back and gives a cold shoulder to everything Republicans want to do, then we’ll have to say this was a hypocritical trip, and has not really stopped the Chinese Hundred-Year Marathon at all.”

This entire episode of LIFE, LIBERTY & LEVIN is highly recommended watching. It’s all about how China is closing the gap on America, very deliberately so, and it’s quite an eye-opener. I hope our own administration and military aren’t as asleep at the wheel as they seem to be but am not optimistic. They appear much more concerned about “wokeness” and pronouns than they are, say, about China taking over shipping lanes around the world: Panama, South America, Western Africa, Southeast Asia. The CCP is positioning its chess pieces all over the globe. Assuming it's not too late by then, the next administration will have to be on top of this from the start.

    This may sound wild, but I predict that Pelosi never does anything unless she benefits. She is trying to show her strength in foreign affairs by her trip. Why. Because once Biden is out of office before 2024 then Kamara would become president. She would be a nightmare. So she would be kicked out or she would quit. That would make Pelosi president if still in control of the house. Then she would be president. Things would have to go properly

    for her, but she would work on things behind the scene!

    I believe she did it to distract from her husbands' court appearance to plead not guilty of being drunk while driving with blood alcohol over the legal limit and hitting and injuring another driver.

    Pelosi went over there to make a name for herself, because she knows Bidens days are numbered. Shes not gonna be bullied by China. Also the chips are there. She got her foot in yhe door for her and her husband to make millions off of them.
    Shes no fool.
    And neither are the American people. Mike we see the corruption everyday, why cant it be stopped? Why are there no one doing anything. That Jan 6th( created by the democrats) aint nothing compared to when millions of americans have enough. Please tell me people higher up and our US Army are working to get rid of these tradiors to our country. And Rice and Obama are in charge and Ebstien aint dead.

    EVERYTHING the Dems do is for nothing but show. I don't believe anything they come out with. These people will have to answer for a LOT when the Lord takes them out. Look at Manchin how he has flip-flopped. Senema is like a little puppy trailing along behind Manchin. I really was starting to respect Manchin because I thought he was starting to display some common sense, but he has now shown his true colors. I just hope the people of West Virginia wake up and vote him out and hope Senema gets voted out, also. ALL the Liberal Dems need to go. Pray for a HUGE Republican turnaround come November.

    The most practical explanation for why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi went to China was to distract those who were obsessed with following her husband’s court hearings etc,
    It seemed to work and interestingly is still getting maximum attention.

    I'm concerned about US...would someone please look into each USA AFB's for Chinese purchased property. I live near Luke AFB in AZ and they own "farm" land within a 15 min drive.
    The Chinese own land near Mt. Home AFB Idaho several in Texas and the Dakotas. Do they own land near EVERY AFB? Distruction/disorder/malfunction/non communication can easily remove effectiveness of all AFBs.

    The Bidens are unquestionably compromised by the money China has given Hunter, and shared with the Big Guy. We may not know how many others in government are beholden to Chinese money.

    Trip may have been a distraction for the many unaddressed problems the Democrats face. Drop in popular support of Biden administration during primary elections and only 3 months from midterm elections. Let's pay attention to Pelosi's antics rather than inflation, border crisis, supply chain failures, Biden's obvious deterioration, failure to address vulnerable public-school campuses while protecting congressional campus and Biden's Delaware campus. Nobody seems to notice that a window is hardly enough defense for school children. Discussion is all about gun control, when increased pressures on individuals in our society, brought on by failed policies of Biden administration, is never mentioned. Shouldn't school campuses be protected like a gated community to effectively protect. An armed guard for 20 plus classrooms and or several buildings is not even close to reasonable protection. Enclosed green areas along with classroom buildings and offices could be observed and protected much better than classroom windows and doors as the only defense.
