September 12, 2018

It’s the afternoon of 9/11 as I write this, and it’s been a day of tolling bells and remembrance.  But as we remember all the sacrifice and bravery and the threat posed to our nation from the outside, we also see more indications of the threat posed from within, and it would be unfortunate to let those pass today without remark.

In just one example (the anonymous New York Times op-ed is another one; more on that soon), the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has obtained more text messages exchanged by former FBI counterintelligence official Peter Strzok and "office girlfriend" Lisa Page, who at that time was legal assistant to deputy FBI Director Andrew “Andy’s office” McCabe (whom the DOJ announced last week is currently under grand jury investigation for lying to investigators and leaking to the media).  As revealing as the earlier texts were, these add even more to the narrative and help firm up the timeline regarding government leaks of unverified information involving made-up Trump/Russia connections, specifically the warrants to spy on Carter Page, who served briefly on the campaign as a foreign policy adviser.  These texts show that Lisa Page was involved in surreptitiously getting word out to the media, with Strzok patting her on the back and saying, in effect, “You go, girl!”

These new texts, according to FOX News reporter Catherine Herridge, were sent during the time Inspector General Michael Horowitz has termed the “gap period,” from December, 2016, to May of 2017.  Recall that Horowitz was the one who turned up the earlier Strzok-Page texts, without which we’d still be in the dark about the “insurance policy.”  Recall also that it was during this “gap period,” especially the first few months of Trump’s administration, that a ridiculous amount of leaking was going on.  These two were so addicted to texting each other that there must be a vast number of texts from this critical period.  At least the gap is finally starting to fill in.

But not anywhere near fast enough.  In a letter to deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who will probably ignore it, South Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows said that “a review of the new documents raises grave concerns regarding an apparent systemic culture of media leaking by high-ranking officials at the FBI and DOJ related to ongoing investigations.”  Here are a couple of examples he included:

--- April 10, 2017:  Peter Strzok contacts Lisa Page to discuss a “media strategy.”  Specifically, the text says, “I had literally just gone to find this phone to tell you I want to talk to you about media leak strategy with DOJ before you go.”

--- April 12, 2017:  Strzok congratulates Page on a job well done while referring to two derogatory articles about Carter Page.  In the text, Strzok warns Page two articles are coming out, one of which is worse than the other about Page’s “namesake.”  Strzok adds, “Well done, Page.”

I don’t have to tell you the one phrase that really jumps out.  Say it with me:  “MEDIA LEAK STRATEGY WITH DOJ.”

Meadows’ letter points out that it was on April 11 that the Washington Post broke a story about the Carter Page FISA application, “setting off a flurry of articles suggesting connections between President Trump and Russia.”  To me, this sounds like an element of the “insurance policy,” a coordinated effort to be waged against Trump if he happened to beat the odds and win the election.

The letter goes on to request more text messages, emails and documents from certain FBI and DOJ officials –- Stu Evans, Mike Kortan and Joe Pientka –- in light of this new information.  “To be clear, we are not suggesting wrongdoing on the part of Evans, Kortan and Pientka,” it says, “and, in fact, previously reviewed documents suggest that some of these individuals may share the committees’ same concerns.”  (I would hope so.)  But these communications, especially the ones with others whose names are more familiar to us by now, “would provide critical insight into the backdrop of the Russia investigation.”

Commentary continues below advertisement

At least Congress is doing its oversight job, trying to chase down the REAL “Russia” story while the special counsel chases phantoms.  But Strzok’s attorney has released a statement calling the response to these texts a “conspiracy theory.” Actually, I’d say the word “conspiracy” is quite appropriate here because it really, really looks like one.  And the word “theory” is appropriate, too, if by “theory” one means something that we know by now actually exists, like gravity.  After all, we know Lisa Page told congressional committees that the texts between her and Strzok mean just what a reasonable person would think they mean.  “Insurance policy,” “stop it,” etc. --- these words haven’t been wildly misinterpreted by conspiracy nuts.  All we did was look at them rationally, within context; their meaning is crystal clear.

Tom Fitton at Judicial Watch pointed out to Harris Faulkner on FOX News’ “Overtime” that the kind of above-the-law behavior we’re seeing from the Justice Department, as blatant as it is these days, is nothing new.  “We’ve been litigating against...the FBI for, you know, 20-plus years at Judicial Watch, and one thing that’s always been consistent is arrogance, illegal secrecy and contempt for the rule of law,” Fitton said.  “They think they’re not accountable, and, at the leadership level especially, they just have complete contempt for anyone outside the agency, or within the agency that attempts to tell them to maybe follow the rules and do what’s right.”

What we have here, he said, is leadership at the FBI “that thought it could get away with illegally targeting a candidate for the President of the United States.”  After numerous firings, it’s time to move forward and make the special counsel accountable for what has been done.  Those people who are now discredited and removed from their positions are the ones responsible for making Mueller’s so-called case.  Fitton made the point that without them, there would be no Mueller investigation.

“And so any other prosecution marred by this misconduct by the investigators would be shut down.  And I don’t understand why Congress doesn’t take more of a leadership role here.  Certainly the President is highlighting Mueller’s corruption, the corruption of the special counsel investigation.  Someone’s got to call what’s going on here for what’s actually’ve got this corrupted Mueller investigation as a result of this misconduct during the Obama administration into the Trump administration.”

Fitton is right –- he’s talking about “the fruit of the poisonous tree” that normally would taint an investigation so much that it would be impossible to take it seriously, let alone bring charges.  And there’s much more poison hidden inside; the FBI is telling Judicial Watch that the rest of the Strzok-Page texts won’t be released until at least 2020 (my guess is after the November elections).  The texts we’ve seen are so bad, it’s hard to imagine what the FBI is still holding back.  Fitton has also been told they have to wait another six months to get another 1600 pages of Bruce Ohr-related documents.  And, of course, the FISA warrants that targeted Carter Page to initiate the spying on Trump’s campaign are still classified.

Even just with what we know so far, this tree is so poisonous that its fruit should not be swallowed by anyone.  It’s time to swing the axe and bring it crashing down.  We’re wise to the FBI and their shield of “classification,” which in this case hasn’t been put on documents to safeguard national security but simply to protect their own.  President Trump would, of course, face screaming outrage and blind fury if he moved in the name of transparency to just declassify everything, but that’s what needs to happen.  He faces screaming outrage and blind fury over everything he says and does, anyway, so I say, “Go for it.”

I am truly amazed that the Liberal left is more interested in villifying Trump than recognizing that the Middlas Class worker now has good jobs, better pay and the ability to change jobs for more mobility. Why do they claim they are for the Middle Class when their actions say otherwise.

    Dear Mr. Huckabee,
it would be wise to promote the excellent book by Cashill and Sanders :"First Strike" about flight TWA800.
In that book is described how the Clintons completely had the FBI in their power. It has never changed, I guess...

And, while we are at it again...Mr.Larry Klayman should be helping President Trump and I also miss in his team:Lt.Col. Allen West. Fine man and patriot,
    kind regards,

This situation is very frustrating to me; even when evidence comes out of wrongdoing by those who hate President Trump, the liberal media and the justice department ignore it. The justice department is too deeply involved to allow the truth to come out.
On a similar note, I've seen that John Kerry has been talking to Iran, working against the legally elected administration. He has done the same thing with the Palestinians, telling them to work with him, as, according to him, Mr. Trump won't be president much longer.
How can the Trump administration put up with this? It seems like treason to me, or something very similar.

Our beloved President really needs to truly seek the Lord for WISDOM in what he should do, along with the men and women that he has surrounding him at this time. I pray that you, Mr. Huckabee, may be one of those persons that get to speak into our presidents life. I am so determined to PRAY for GOD's justice to PREVAIL.

yep time for the entire tree to be chopped down. The FBI top brass needs to get OVER themselves and come clean. If it takes a gang of thugs with shotguns. Get all documents. No, no, I am NOT buying 2020. That is a clear admission that the FBI has too much to hide and they are scared to release. It is time to throw out the rules. The Libs have already. It's time for Gestapo tactics. Nothing else works. There is too much stalling and hiding. Time for all to be revealed, If it takes down 200 people then it does. Party etc does not matter. This is as FB accurately says "a crime spree." time to stop the crime spree and hard. people need to be in jail and some need to hang for treason and other such crimes. Time for PC is over, time to be VERy tough.

How can it be acceptable for them to continue to claim “Russia interference “ with Trump, yet have all of the FBI documentation secret? They are clearly holding out until after the election, but how can it go on like this? It doesn’t make sense?!
You are correct, Trump can do no right in the liberal and media, do why doesn’t he just go for it and let the heads roll where they may!

WAY TO GO in keeping us informed on what is going on in this regard. Since this in not specifically potential relations between Trump and Russia, Jeff Sessions should personally get into it; after all, he is the head of the whole thing!

I have been earnestly praying that those evil things done in secret be shouted from the housetops so that all can hear. I agree it is time with this lengthy stonewalling for President Trump to declassify all requested documents and communications and have them seized before they can be destroyed. Then, if any Democrat is elected in midterms or 2020, fraud should be highly suspected at the polls and our children and grandchildren’s blood is on the heads of those who voted them in.
Restitution and appropriate menial community service, loss of pensions should result from convictions for these unlawful acts. Prison should be considered only if we contract with Venezuela, Turkey or say Syria. Our prisons are far too good for them and why should we taxpayers continue to foot the bill for them!
Harsh, I know, but such despicable behavior by those entrusted with governance and law enforcement should not go unpunished any longer.

my husband and I were discussing last night how great it is that although you lost the bid for the Presidential election, you immediately got behind Pres Trump and have supported him ever since. Too bad all republicians aren't like that- even the democrats have each others backs no matter what they do or say!!! also want to comment on how you relay the news. i simply crack up when watching the part on your show-news you might have missed this week!! We love your sense of humor and your way of looking at the news. I actually laugh out loud-alot_ when watching the show!! Thanks for all you do!! now if you could just let a Mississippi Squirrel loose when Congress is in session, perhaps they would get "revived" and help our President !!!!!!!

I have friends who seemingly aren't aware of the deep state or the actions of their beloved obama and hilary, or perhaps they are just putting it "out of sight, out of mind." I'm sure there are several who do listen to FOX on occasion (don't know which program(s)) but how many Americans get their news only from msm where I doubt that any of this information has been reported. They are probably taking the high road they do not normally take and are waiting for any investigation to report the actions of all involved.

As for waiting for the docuements and texts--someone needs to get on the ball and say, get them out NOW. Or, perhaps do what the FBI did (at the direction of mueller?) and RAID the offices, all the homes of each person, any hotels they use, offices of their attorneys and perhaps secretaries/assistants where documents might be shunted. They can't produce in a timely manner--go take it from them. Oh, and that would be ALL offices of the FBI and DOJ, ALL computers, harddrives, phone records, etc etc etc because they seem to be pretty sneaky people and heaven only knows where they would hide information. Don't give them time to pull a hilary and to destroy anything. Let me see--Manafort didn't seem to be turning over required documents in what they felt was a timely manner (or did they even subpoena them to begin with) and, any civilian across the US who does not comply is not allowed several years to lollygag around and put off providing what has been demanded. Oh, come to think of it, there are times when, if the police think they have probably cause, they can get a warrant for searches even though there has been no demand from them for the person to turn anything over., why doesn't any oversight committee put the screws on the FBI and DOJ, especially? Perhaps there are those who might be afraid what would be revealed about them? Why else just sit and patiently wait to maybe get information--and maybe not?

Do you know if any of the tax cut 2.0 includes any relief for retirees? I retired in 2009 and my insurance costs have gone up every year since then. Medicare Part B has gone up $30 in three years and on top of that, one needs a supplemental. Whatever "tax break" came the first time was swallowed up by insurance costs. Retirees just keep going in the hole.

I have a comment on the Rudy Peters incident at the Castro Valley Fall Festival in California Sunday. How much can a story be told differently by three people. Fazeli's mama's story is that he was just walking around the festival when he past the Republican party booth and someone started shouting obscenities at him. Then started attacking him, which he defended himself. Your story tells the same thing that Rudy Peters told the news reporters and interesting enough, his story matches what the Alameda County Sheriff's Department Investigators are reporting.

As Mr. Fazeli sits in the Alameda County jail in Santa Rita, California, Mrs. Adams, his loving mama, who by the way was on the other side of the festival manning the Democratic Party booth(interesting fact), is searching out an attorney, no not to defend her son, but to file suit on Rudy Peters for assaulting her baby boy.

Seems mama is more interested in money, then getting her troubled child out of jail again (Sheriff's officials say he has a past).

Maybe it's time to completely shut down the FBI. I know there are good people that work for this corrupt agency, but they could go through the hiring process and get a position in the newly created agency. It would be a step towards cleaning house and maybe even something unique, like following the laws.

What more does the President need to start replacing DOJ figures? This is becoming embarrassing. If he had had folks like that working in one of companies, he would've surely fired them!
