Today's Commentary --- Fake news roundup -- Tennessee politics -- Huck PAC announcement coming soon -- The real reason -- Correction -- About that CBS -- Evening Edition - Daily Verse

Today’s “fake news” round-up is a triple header, led off by the New York Yankees…oops, sorry: the New York Times.

First up at bat, the New York Times ran a hit piece last Tuesday on the Trump Administration headlined, “U.S. Loses Track of Another 1500 Migrant Children, Investigators Find.” Why, that’s horrifying! Losing track of all those children! But wait…it turns out that means they placed 1500 children with sponsors, at which point the government’s legal responsibility for “keeping track” of them ends. HHS officials do call the sponsors 30 days after they take custody of the kids to check on them, but they’re not even required to do that. This is how the system is set up, regardless of who the President is. Sorry, Salon, you'll have to scrap that follow-up story you were no doubt working on about Trump abandoning 1500 children in the Mojave Desert.

Tennessee politics

By Mike Huckabee

Here’s one specifically for the voters of Tennessee, where we film my TV show.  The NRA is demanding that Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen stop running ads that claim he has an “A” rating from the NRA for protecting Second Amendment rights.  They point out that that rating was given in 2002 when he was Governor.  His Republican opponent, Marsha Blackburn, is currently rated as a “2A champion” of defending gun rights and is endorsed by the NRA, while Bredesen’s more recent embrace of Hillary Clinton/Mike Bloomberg-style gun control has earned him a “D” rating from the NRA.

Remember, no matter how conservative a Democrat promises to be, once they get to DC, they will be “under the gun” (so to speak) to back leaders like Chuck Schumer and vote in lockstep, and virtually every one of them does.  That's because being a “maverick” in the Democratic Party means getting no decent committee assignments, leadership posts or campaign funding.  And nationally, the current Democratic attitude is that the NRA is a terrorist organization that's responsible for children being killed in schools.

Under those circumstances, you’d think Bredesen would be proud of getting a “D” rating from the NRA.  So I am happy to do my part in letting you Tennessee voters know that he does.  No need for his campaign to thank me for helping set the record straight.

Huck PAC announcement coming soon

By Mike Huckabee

Thanks to the generosity of thousands of grassroots supporters, Huck PAC donated $74,500 to conservatives running for elected office last week.  The list includes: Marsha Blackburn, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, French Hill, Leslie Rutledge and many more.

We will announce our second investment in candidates on tomorrow.

The real reason

By Mike Huckabee

Stop the presses (if there still are presses)!  A major mainstream media outlet (The Hill newspaper) has admitted the real reason why TV ratings for showbiz award shows such as the Oscar, Grammy and Emmy telecasts have been dropping faster than Dianne Feinstein’s approval rating.  They always try to blame it on the increase in viewing options, the declining importance of broadcast networks, and other inside industry excuses, while ignoring the elephant in the room – or more precisely, all the Republican elephants who are no longer in the room.  But finally, a critic at the Hill boldly admits what’s been obvious to tens of millions of Americans:

At least half the potential audience doesn't want to watch smug, leftist celebrities calling them dumb, sexist, racist homophobic Nazis because they vote for Republicans. Whoever would have imagined that?!  Add in the facts that the stars often badmouth America when it’s provided them with a lifestyle of incredible wealth, luxury and privilege; and that we now know their lectures about our sexism and disrespect for women are coming from an industry run by men who treat the women in their employ only slightly better than a Ming dynasty emperor treated his harem.

This is only a small crack in the left’s concrete wall of denial, but maybe it will start a great crumbling that will eventually result in the news media admitting that NFL ratings are not way down just because football fans are all out attending Antifa rallies instead.

In Friday's newsletter we mistakenly linked to the wrong story instead of Laura Ainsworth's response to comments generated by her commentary "One woman's take on the shameful Kavanaugh confirmation process."

Here is a link to the original post by Laura: One woman's take on the shameful Kavanaugh confirmation process

And her follow-up post: RESPONSE TO READER COMMENTS on "One Woman's Take..."

About that CBS...

By Mike Huckabee

The women of CBS News suggested that Republican Senators risk looking like “clueless and insensitive men, grilling a woman” if they question Brett Kavanaugh's accuser too toughly.  I think the Senators understand that they need to be respectful, and so far, they've bent over backwards to accommodate her while she has continually changed her terms for testifying.  Anyone, woman or man, who launches an unsubstantiated allegation that could destroy a person’s reputation and career must know that they will be questioned about it and expected to back it up.  It's part of due process (remember that?)  I think it shows a stunning lack of respect for women to suggest that they are not smart enough to understand that nor strong enough to stand up to being questioned.

Also, I apologize for being so insensitive as to mention this, but the people at CBS News worked with Charlie Rose, under Les Mooves, and promoted their shows with David Letterman.  I don’t think CBS has much standing to lecture Republicans on how their leaders might be clueless and insensitive men who don’t respect women.
