Today's Edition

On a day with so much ‘deep state’ news, there’s a common theme: vindication at last for those caught up in phony-baloney investigations such as the “Trump/Russia” probe, and the lingering concern about what will be done to expose the remaining cover-ups. Here’s a round-up of stories to illustrate...

First, from Rowan Scarborough at the WASHINGTON TIMES, here’s news that in a more rational world would be the last nail in the coffin of the whole trumped-up “Trump/Russia” investigation. This information is in IG Michael Horowitz’s 436-page report, even though Horowitz himself summarized it by saying there was adequate “predication” (reason) for the FBI to open their investigation. Good grief, did he (like Robert Mueller, apparently) not read his own report?

This is why Americans should never depend on headline writers for their news. Yet that’s what busy people do, and it’s why “narratives” are so easy to shape.

The FBI originally targeted four individuals: Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn (President Trump’s first choice for national security adviser), campaign manager Paul Manafort, and campaign advisers Carter Page and George Papadopoulos. But an internal August 2016 memo outlining why these probes were opened offered no acceptable “predication” for the targeting of any of these individuals –- no evidence of a conspiracy with Russia. All the FBI had was the “dossier,” a politically-financed work of fiction, evidence of nothing.

Never mind former FBI Director James Comey’s claim that the Trump probe was based on a “mosaic” of information. That was a lie. Never mind former CIA Director John Brennan’s claim that British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s Trump/Russia dossier wasn’t even part of the “corpus” of information on which they based their investigation. That was a lie, too. It was the dossier --- ONLY the dossier --- that “predicated” this investigation. As you recall, Steele was paid $165,000 through Fusion GPS, which was paid millions through the law firm Perkins Coie by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC (same thing).

The Democrats are always nattering on about how evil it is that billionaires are buying elections and vowing to get “big money” out of politics. But it’s becoming increasingly obvious that they’re only talking about getting big money out of their opponents' campaigns. Not only do they depend heavily upon wealthy tech, showbiz and media donors, they actually have two billionaires running in their primary.

The party is open to these moneybags vanity candidates (Tom Steyer even bought himself a highly sought-after place in the debates), but their presence is helping disprove the notion that money buys elections.  Democrats have completely missed the point about Trump's support in a lot of ways, and you can add to the pile of disproven narratives the idea that he bought the White House with his billions.  Trump actually ran a remarkably lean and mean campaign, using a fraction of the number of staffers that most candidates hire, almost no advisers (what would be the point?) and communicating to the voters largely through his free Twitter account.

By contrast, the liberal billionaires, being liberals, think that the solution to the problem of how to get elected President is the same as the solution to every other problem: throw a lot of money at it.  Well, at least this time, it’s their own money.  And to quote Dr. Phil, how is that workin’ for them?

The latest Economist/YouGov Democratic Primary poll has Bloomberg at 3% and Steyer at 2%.  Bloomberg is skipping both the debates and that revolting slumming known as “campaigning” that might require him to shake hands that have touched a gun, or worse, a Big Gulp.  Instead, he’s relying on massive ad buys.  Bloomberg has vowed to spend a billion dollars (I’ve heard accounts he’s willing to spend all his billions, which would be great) to win the presidency. I hope that’s true.  Let him share his wealth with lots of struggling local radio and TV stations instead of funding Astroturf gun control groups.

And again, how’s that workin’ for him?  Well, his latest ads running in Texas vow to turn the Lone State State blue.  He would’ve been better off spending his billion bucks on 100 million cans of blue paint.  Bloomberg held a “rally” in San Antonio, a large city liberal enough to have elected Julian Castro Mayor. He even brought along his celebrity supporter, “Judge Judy” Sheindlin. And how many people showed up?  Forty-five!  If he spends a billion dollars and gets 45 votes, that’s $22,222,222.23 per vote.  Heck, I’d vote for him for half that!

If nothing else, you’d think Judge Judy at least would have more fans than that.  I can imagine their thought process: “This may be the only chance I’ll ever get to meet Judge Judy! Oh, wait, I have to listen to Mike Bloomberg first?  Eh, I’ll catch her next time…”

Personally, I say that as long as they stay at the bottom of the polls, I’m all for this trend of liberal billionaires running for President. They’re proving the Dems’ claims about money buying elections false while stimulating the economy with their own money for a change, and they’re blowing their wealth on vanity campaigns instead of funding radical environmentalist, socialist and gun control groups.  As long as they keep lose-lose-losing, it’s a win-win-win for America!

I wanted to make sure you also read these comments:

Did you hear that President Trump thinks Venezuela shares a border with Bolivia?  There’s 700 miles of Brazil between them! How can someone that embarrassingly ignorant of other nations be President?!...Oh, wait.  Turns out it was Joe Biden who thinks Venezuela borders on Bolivia. Sorry for the false alarm. The media can go back to ignoring this story now.

Funny how the Golden Globes announced so quickly that Amy Pohler and Tina Fey would host next year (and NOT Ricky Gervais – which Ricky would hardly be surprised about.)  Meanwhile, Gervais refuses to give an inch to his critics who panned him for blasting liberal Hollywood’s hypocrisy and now are trying to shame him for allowing – gasp! – conservatives to join his fan base.  As a real, old-style, free speech liberal himself, he had some choice words for that kind of intolerance.

Incidentally, to any struggling comics who think they have to grovel to the leftist/PC/“woke” Twitter mob or else they won’t have a career:  Note that simply by speaking freely without worrying about the critics, and making conservatives laugh, something that few comedians even try these days, Gervais added half a million new followers on Twitter in less than a week.  Food for thought.

Monday Meme Fail! The Socialist Party of Great Britain tried to illustrate the wonders of socialized medicine with contrasting photos of a long line of patients at a capitalist hospital and gleaming new medical equipment at a socialist hospital. One problem, noted by sharp-eyed viewers:  the photo of the long line was actually taken at an NHS (government health service – i.e., socialized medicine) hospital in Britain, and the one with the latest medical equipment was from St. Luke’s University Hospital in Pennsylvania – a capitalist hospital.

If nothing else, you’d think the long line would have tipped them off to which one was socialized medicine.

Maybe I've watched too many episodes of "Law and Order," but doesn't the judge usually throw out charges against someone when it's discovered the cops didn't have "probable cause" to search for evidence they discovered? If the FISA warrants for Flynn and company were based on phoney info, shouldn't their cases be thrown out or overturned immediately?

Do you believe we can hold the Senate in the next election? It would be catastrophic if we can’t!

I just read that the person chosen to follow up on the FBI misuse of the FISA warrants, and to fix the system, is someone who trashed Nunes' 2018 report. Could you follow up on this? We need the truth, not another hiding or ignoring of the truth.

Mike, that you for keeping us informed on the truth. I don't know how you read all these liberal sources that are loosing their minds.....and manage to keep yours! I keep you (and your sanity & humor) in my prayers. I have to keep reminding myself that we followers of Christ win in the end. And some days, that end can't come soon enough.
